I coached 3 kids last year who now attend UNT. I still communicate with these guys and they are telling me how amazing it is at UNT. The great thing I see about this, if every year you keep adding a class that has this pride for UNT it will only get better. We have strength in #s and a football team to be proud of is really helping matters. Also, we had a group of seniors tour campus 2day and they all fell in love with the school. Negativy is increasingly hard to conjur up these days........winning football team, AD (person and department) doing a good job, increasing show of enthusiasm/excitement coming from the stands on both sides of the stadium during games, pride bustin' the buttons of those on the field and in the stands............Hell, negativity is just a harder thing to create right now. Even the board's number one negative poster has reduced his 99% negativity to about 75% - but even then he still manages to languish in his own sea of self-created negativity while avoiding falling prey to "puppy's breath and sunshine up skirts" (always wondered about that sunshine saying - i have believed there was always sunshine......uh,well, I will leave the rest to your imagination). Get with the program! :-) In all seriousness, the UNT Alumni Pavilion is a great place to meet fellow alums during homecoming starting with tonight's bonfire...after, of course, you watch the Mean Green start the BB season 1-0 after beating Northwood. Tip-off is 5pm to accommodate the bonfire time. So, come to the game and just walk over the bridge to the Alumni Pavilion and enjoy the bonfire. It is going to be great! See you there! ECU alum here....just curious about the tiebreaker rules and came across your forum...chose to weigh in. Now that FAU beat Tulane (who knew?), UNT needs Rice to beat Tulane in their season finale and UNT will win the West. As long as ECU wins the rest of their games (possible, but we'll see), UNT will visit Greenville, NC and witness one of the best NCAA football atmospheres out there. But, if UNT and ECU are tied at the end of the season overrall....we'll have to speculate once again! Good luck, welcome to CUSA and congrats on the success so far.

I don't think I've ever seen anything critical from you about Benford & his staff. And I've seen you qualify this lack of blame with something along the lines of, "He's employed by our university, so I support him."

Once told some locals at a barber shop in Denton that they should wait for the announcement that Notre Dame is relocating to TX and replacing UNT and then you will finally have a team worthy of your support. Went over like a baked ham at a bar mitzvah , but I still stand behind my statement 25 yrs later. I will never...ever...understand North Texans and your lack of support of UNT. Just mind blowing.

Gotta say...I could see much deeper in the soul of this man in that interview...who he really is, much more than has ever been obvious from previous talks,...you have to admire this guy, even if you have some issues with his coaching....reminds me a bit of RV who just gets emotional when he talks about North Texas..,.but I do too. It really raised my opinion of him, as a man and a coach.

The anticipation was building as I read through this thread and finally I get to your post.............and.............what a let down.

Most unbelievable freshman year I have ever seen. Maybe any year.

I have 2 windows in my office that face the never-ending parade of students headed to the outstretches of the U. I witnessed an increase in the amount of black UNT branded apparel across the campus since "The Stand". In addition, I got my hair cut next to Danny Mac at the Campus barbershop in Downtown Denton. While there he said, "this team has a lot of growl". He then went on to say that it didn't have enough, but it has a lot. He meant to win a national championship, which is his goal. All that to say, this CAMPUS has a lot of "growl", of late, and I like it. It looks tough; it looks like a college campus! GMG!

I was in the Academy sports store yesterday with my wife and daughter. The daughter and I had on our NT shirts. The girl in line behind us asks "Do you go to UNT?" I explained that I was an alum and she says "We're bowl...worthy, or something...now". I asked if she was there Thursday and she said yes and that she couldn't wait for Homecoming. Said there is quite a buzz amongst her friends who "aren't really football people" normally.

Forgot I was going to post this last weekend. I was at the new Dick's sporting goods in the Heritage area of Keller - and I was shopping with the family and wandered over to the shirts section or what I typically call: "UT and TAMU love fest section with absurd amounts of those schools with some TCU and Tech sprinkled in" And what do my eyes witness!?!?!? wait for it... wait for it.. AN OASIS OF MEAN GREEN GEAR ON THE FREAKING END CAP SECTION BEFORE YOU GET TO THE OTHER STUFF!! Yes I am not making this up I took a picture with my computer-phone.... awesome!

I was in Houston this weekend and got stopped multiple times. Was in line to get a piece of the Astrodome and we had a nice long conversation with an old alum from the Fry years who hasn't been back since the 70s, who is attending the UTEP game.
