When she was seven years old, my daughter, watching a UNT game, said of Todd Dodge, "He's worse than cafeteria food!" Today, she has a regional audition at a South lake middle school right outside Dragon Stadium. She said, "I'm going to spit on the ground there today." I'm raising such a young lady.7 points

Well..... Todd Dodge is hired as the HC. There is some misgiving, because he has never been a college HC before, but many are convinced he is going to be a great recruiter and it will all work out. At his introductory press conference he states he is bringing in an all HS staff because "football is football" and it doesn't matter no one had any major college football level experience. This is the point where I begin to panic. We lost our first game to OU 79-10. A few more panic but most rationalize that it's OU, he doesn't have his recruits, a new system takes time, etc. We go 2-10 that year (2007) more people begin to panic. But it's early, surely it has to get better? We go 1-11 in 2008. The panic is real. We go 2-10 in 2009, the majority is in real panic, though a few are telling them that this will still work out, he just needs time, the hire was a good one, etc. We start off 1-6 in 2010, and Dodge is let go. Having learned from BlackJerseyGate, he is not allowed to finish the season.6 points

What? Are you sure you've ever been to Houston? I was born and raised in Houston, and Rice sits in West U., which is a high dollar area almost akin to River Oaks, which btw sits around 4 or 5 miles directly to the north. U of H is the one that sits IN the ghetto/barrio or whatever you want to term it. West University may be only a half dozen miles from a major downtown area (as is Highland Park), but it is far from low dollar.5 points

Thak you all. All I want for my birthday is a 13th North Texas football game.4 points

good call. Here's another skateboarding analogy: You can tell immediately he's an amateur, but you give him a chance. Seems like a nice enough guy. The company he keeps appear to be jr high/high school aged though, so you question his judgement of peers. He kicks off a little bit with some nice news coverage and some nice recruits. You can tell he's learning on the fly, but maybe this thing will go. You keep watching and hope for the best because you have no other choice. The giant palm gets in the way by closing practices which hides what would probably give us all a heads up of what we could expect during the season... No hitting in practice?? Then, when he goes to ride, he's exposed immediately (79-10) and runs backwards further than where he was when he started. Insult to injury, the immovable object of truth (the old Pontiac GrandAm of life) smashes him in the face. Enjoy:4 points

I think it's best we keep recruits away from TWU girls. And of course, I mean no disrespect by saying that4 points

There is a Denton 2030 meeting Oct. 29 from 2-4 at UNT to get student input on the Denton Master Plan. http://www.dentonplan2030.com I love what this city councilman has to say about a university(s) town. Kevin Roden, right, a Denton city councilman and assistant director for student life at the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Sciences, said many community committees have looked at issues to prepare a vision statement. Now the group is ready to unveil that, get feedback on it and begin forming more detailed plans. Involving the campus is important, Roden said, because universities represent a significant portion of Denton’s population. “We have close to 48,000 college students in this city, so their input is important to the city. The success of the city depends on the success of the universities.” I also hear he likes college football. Full Story here: http://inhouse.unt.edu/give-your-input-denton-plan-20303 points

Mac has already said that his eligibility is done after next season and that there is no way to get him more. He also said as soon as he is ready to play this season he will play. It was a week or two ago that Mac said QB was doing one-on-one drills in practice but wasn't back to full contact yet.3 points

Roll him out there now, we are only half way through the season. We have a chance to do something this season, which would help recruiting immensely! Recruiting leads to several players, not just one.3 points

Still going to ESSC, but I've been to Bottlecap Alley once, and I really liked it there. The burgers and how you order reminded me of Mooyah's, but didn't require a skipped mortgage payment to acquire. The beer prices were cheap, and the staff was not unpleasant to look at. Smoke free inside, smoking patio outside. Only caveat is that it's where 26 meets 114, and the construction/traffic can be a bit of a pain. So, anywho, the point being that for those of you who live in the area, this is a pretty groovy place to be.3 points

Steph, the arguments about Houston are moot because according to at least 1 person on here from Houston, anyone who doesn't like it there has mental or emotional problems. I knew any mention of Houston in a negative light would start this crap all over again.3 points

I hate dirty Houston just as much as any good clean North Texan... But even I'll admit that Rice's campus and surrounding neighborhoods are very very nice.3 points

Some kid got raped on UNT campus. Happens all the time, every where. Get out of your bubble. Unfortunate, but true. However, UH's campus is 2 miles from the 15th most dangerous intersection IN THE COUNTRY.3 points

I've thought about this a lot lately. Dodge made two huge errors in my opinion. The first was hiring his HS coaching staff year one. The second was recruiting his son. Dodge clearly can evaluate talent. Many of our current top performers were Dodge recruits. But by hiring his SLC coaches he opted for coaches who knew his HS system rather than coaches who know the college game. It really set him back. He may be able to evaluate talent, but coaches? Not so much. By getting Riley he had to continue to straddle the line of "coach" and "Dad". That might work in HS but neither of them were allowed to grow and learn in college with the other one around. I still like Todd Dodge but I'm glad he's gone.3 points

Mitchell with a couple nice blocks and getting some solid play time with josh Smith on the bench. He has more dimes then boards right now. I still think he has a chance to make that 9 man roster3 points

Yes, Rice is much more of a national school which caters to high achievers. Kind of like the Harvard of the South/Southwest. SMU is more of a rich kid's school where academics may matter, but it doesn't compare to Rice. I would think Tulane falls somewhere in between.3 points

Isn't it logical to assume if we go bowling with what is being built, the budget increase, the increased profile from an improved program, Beyond the Green, increased TV coverage, better product on the field, etc that we could get a BETTER recruit than him In the next few months? We lost him to TCU, yeah that sucks. But there are better players than this kid that are recruited by Tulane, Tulsa, La Tech, Rice, UTEP, UTSA, etc. Given our season and the potential for what it could become, I would anticipate some will start to turn their head toward Denton, TX.2 points

Are you screwing with me? You cant be serious. I'll take Dallas after dark before Houston any day of the week. I still have my zoo pass in my wallet. A "kid" ( I say kid bc she looked at least 16) got raped the last day we went before we moved back to DFW. I'm hearing twilight zone music.....2 points

I could honestly give 2 blanks. I know what I know. I am not challenging you to a battle of wits. I don't know what I would have to gain by saying any of this. See the Eagles Nest Forum if you feel offended and want to go to blows from there. Bye bye. Let me be clear: Rice is not Detroit. But, a comparison to even SMU as far as "a nice area" is concerned is a moot topic. It is right across a highway from the 3rd ward. Please. I was in Pearland 2 months ago.2 points

Babe just did a segment on the Mean Green on his 6PM Sports Segment. Do not know if it will repeat at 10 PM or not, but great to see the continuing PR coming UNT's way these days. Talked about UNT being the homecoming opponent for both La Tech and So Miss. McCarney said it's no secret why they scheduled UNTfor homecoming. OK, so, that about a servers that question for me. Babe ended the segment by saying...."I like Dan McCarney".... Music to my ears to hear Babe say that...might mean even more TV time in the future on Babe's show! Go beat Southern Miss! Make it happen Mean Green! Thank you Babe and Channel 11.2 points

So, I heard from my girlfriend's roommate that the frats and sororities are making it mandatory for their members to attend the game against Rice. I don't know exactly where she got this info from but I figured it's worth mentioning.2 points
