  2. Just saw a nice little segment on UNT football on the 10pm Ch 5 News with Newy Scruggs. Had the great TD pass from the La Tech game, had Mac on talking in his news conference and mentioned the So Miss game...said you have to beat the winless teams...something like go beat them. Gotta have it! Really great to see this...had UT and UNT on...no SMU, no TCU, no UTA...had UNT! Thanks Newy and thanks to channel 5.

  3. Find the closed thread to discover one fan, who I considered a pretty good person, talking down to a long time, season ticket holding, President's Council donation level, lifetime fan who spends hours researching our recruiting efforts all because he has health issues that prevent him from travelling. That is bush league in my book. Call me what you want, but that is about as classless as it gets.

  5. I suppose you lost me on the hats part, but I whole-heartedly agree, UNTLifer, and know exactly where you're coming from. Thru the decades, we've most always had our UNT social climber types among us who want all to know of their (usually) self proclaimed high importance as to all but be the very reason their existence and association with U of North Texas is what keeps our alma mater's very infra-structure in place. We've seen them come...we've seen them go thru the decades at North Texas. A splash here, a splash there and wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-------G-O-N-E! And never, ever post about the passing of an owner of a pro football team who once owned an AFL/NFL franchise located on the Texas Gulf Coast (a part of Texas where many of us on this board were reared and still have interest with news from down south) lest you be targeted with condescending, sarcastic remarks coupled with back-handed sardonic humor from some of that most special, elite crowd. Not sure what some of their actual goals and objectives in doing such are, quite frankly. Still (and always) we will all sing Glory To The Green when the Green Brigade strikes up the song & that's a good thing. Nevertheless and....with that out of the way.....this: BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THE USM GOLDEN EAGLES ! ! !

  8. Especially when they were pretty condescending toward North Texas when we were joining and how they were so high and mighty. Never say never. I hope we beat USM bad on Saturday (but will take a 1 point win). Lots of payback to deliver left on our calendar. USM, Rice, Tulsa are all deserving of a North Texas arse whoopin.

  10. Hey guys, I don't have cool-awesome software to design some cool-awesome uniforms, but here's what we should definitely be wearing for Halloween, and I think it's really cool-awesome because I designed it myself! What do you guys think? Pretty awesome huh?

  14. If Baylor, OU, Texas, or A&M offered, he would flip as fast as he flipped from us to TCU. All those in the "we should honor every offer and never pull an offer and leave a kid out in the cold" should take a lesson from this. It's a 2 way street.

  16. For the record, I hate each and every one of you; and, I live daily with the satisfaction that the feeling is mutual. In addition, because we are winning, I care all the less about any and all opinion expressed herein by any and all posters - friend or foe. Winning is all; message board friendship is nothing. I am ready warden...let it flow! P.S. - Derek Thompson is your daddy...all of ya'll's daddy!

  18. It's so sadly ironic that Rice is such a big game for us, given the fact that more people post and visit this site than attend an average Rice game. In general, the student body at Rice could care less.

  19. Good luck Desmon. However I like what I see in the QB's evolving at UNT. UNT is in good shape and Mac will keep loading the roster, he knows how. UNT Quarterbacks: Andrew McNulty, Soph. Brock Berglund, Soph. Dejon Williams, Fr. Jordan Gill, FR.

  20. We simply cannot continue to think this way. This isn't aimed at you KRAM, you're not the only one who feels this way, you were just the first person to say it... When he committed to us (soft/solid/whatever), we were all excited about it and hoping he could step in to fill Brelan Chancellor's shoes as an electric playmaker. Now that he's going to TCU, he's looking at being 3rd string and stuff, and eventually transfering? Is TCU really that much better than UNT? Do you think TCU wouldn't kill to have Brelan Chancellor on their team? Right now, would UNT even be somewhat interested in a TCU transfer who is a 3rd stringer? ...maybe as a walk-on. If he does well at TCU, great. If he doesn't do well at TCU, it doesn't mean he would have been a world-beater here. In that scenario, he probably wouldn't do well here either. We're not NAIA UT-Tyler. We're North Texas!

  21. Taking him back as a transfer would set a bad, bad precedent. Everybody who comes to play here needs to be doing so for the first time. None of this dangle themselves in front of us while really fishing for a flashier opportunity, then coming crawling back a year later when Patterson plays a QB who can actually stand up to Big XII competition.

  22. The fan base is pretty divided on how that happened, but most unanimously believe Ellis Johnson was the root cause. I'll try to give you my perspective... When Bower was coach we consistently won 7-8 games, but a lot of our fans were ready to take the next step. He ended up getting fired. Half our fans were pissed cause their buddy got fired, but the other half will tell you it was about to get ugly because Bower's recruiting was dropping off. When Fedora took over I believe there was only 1 offensive lineman with any D-1 experience. Fedora started off recruiting hot and heavy, but had several guys that did not qualify. After a year or two he seemed to become a little more conservative in his recruiting. Some say he was looking to get out of town so he wasn't trying, but I believe he was focusing on his needs, and trying to bring in guys that could qualify. Everyone knows we went 12-2, beat no. 6 Houston, and Fedora nearly tripled his salary by taking the UNC job. Johnson came in and we've been 0-18 since. Now you have a group pointing the finger at Fedora cause we have no depth, but you have to look at the big picture IMO. When Ellis was hired he brought in his buddy to be OC and a high school coach as QB? coach. Well his buddy ended up being an alcoholic who couldn't fulfill his duties as OC, so now we are stuck with a high school coach as OC, who insists on playing his former high school qb (who lived with him at times), even though we had better qualified qbs on the team. The players began referring to this as "daddy ball". Ellis also hired a real estate agent as our strength and conditioning coach. This guy had been a strength coach for us decades prior, but was long past his prime. Our team completely quit on the coach and the strength program. Once Monken and his guys came in it was said we were a full year behind on strength and conditioning. I say we were a year behind on coaching as well. Now some are pointing fingers at Fedora as well as Ellis for not recruiting, but I argue that we would be fine if we didn't practically take a year off from football. We have no depth at O-line, but I think most of the blame lies on Ellis Johnson. Not only did he not recruit but because of the ineptitude of the previous staff our seniors are playing at a junior level, juniors at a sophomore level etc. Most of the fan base believe Monken is the right coach, but noone knows exactly how long it will take to right the ship. Even though we are 0-6 this year it's been more promising than last year. Last year we had a lot more talent and experience, but the team continued to get worse as the year went along. This year we have a ridiculous amount of true freshmen playing, and many of our best players have been injured. (Nunez-Roches DT, Howze LB, Llanos WR, Thompson WR etc.) It is understandable to struggle this year +a learning curve was expected for Monken since this is his first time as a head coach.

  23. http://masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm North Texas Ranks 68th in Massey's Composite Rankings of 100 ranking services. Some are mainstream some are obscure. The median of all of our rankings was 64 which means that half rated us above that number and half below it. If you will click on the university in about the fifth column you can find whom they've beaten, the rest of their schedule, and whether they are projected to win or lose that game. Shows the national offensive and defensive rankings for that team. Most of the ranking services have us in the 60s but there are a few spares out there that have us as low as 40 and as high as 103. Click on the ranking service name (at the top) and you can see their complete list. I've used this for several years. I used to make a worksheet of our conference teams from ten sources that I felt was the most reliable, throw out the high and the low, and felt that result was about as accurate as I could get it as to where we and other conference members ranked.

  24. I was on my way back to Austin one time in the very early 80's, and we stopped at a place in West for gas/snacks--can't remember the name--and in the store was a display of local jams and jellies. "Mother Fucher's Plum Jam". Being 19, I really wore the middle-aged female clerk out about this, and loudly mispronounced it at the top of my lungs while guffawing uproariously. Not one of my finest moments.

  35. I got a chance to watch the USM/ECU game before ours on Sat. I have no idea what to pull from that game in all honesty because it was an absolute slaughter in every way, but I did notice a few things: 1. USM's offensive line is atrocious. 2. USM's offense is really slow. I think they must practice with little to no intensity or something because their game-play speed is just plain S.L.O.W. Plays take forever to develop. 3. USM's defense must be used to practicing against the slow offense, because they are very slow as well. 4. Carden is a really good QB with weapons everywhere. ECU uses Hardy alot like we use Chancellor. These guys tore up USM's defense. Unless the Mean Green defense comes out flat or something, this game should be a blowout with few points scored by USM. UNT just needs to execute their normal offensive game plan. Establish the run, minimize mistakes, get Brelan the ball, and wear the defense down with Byrd/Pegram. Defense just needs to do what they do... bust some heads and cause turnovers. These guys are slow, and we're really fast. The defense should have a field day. The 2nd/3rd stringers are going to see some significant playing time in this one. USM is really bad. And again, we're being dissed by another school by being named their homecoming opponent. Eat 'em up Mean Green! UNT: 45 USM: 13 EDIT: For any current players reading this thread, please contact any of the UNT football HOF'ers from the early 2000's and query them on how much they would like for you to pound USM even worse than my prediction above. 2 bowl losses to these goons. We owe them.

  43. We won. So, we're happy. No team plays the perfect game. The kids are giving great effort. No one is blowing us out. We have been in every game, even the losses, with a realistic chace to win all of them. As long as everyone is giving this type of effort, I don't see much room for complaint. Having the run game fixed has - and, will - cover a multitude of sins: Be able to run on offense, stop the run on defense, play effective and mistake free special teams = winning football in any era. I feel sorry for the people who don't accept wins as wins, and instead want sexier wins. Sorry, this isn't a sexy team; it's a tough team. And, I'm happy that we choose tough over sexy when it comes to football. Finesse football is for fags.

  44. He got back in and scored. I don't wish injury on him, but I do just want him to go away. I doubt it'll happen any time soon, though. Hopefully he'll leave college ball, declare for the draft, and all of the coaches and owners will think he's too much of a tool to deal with and he can go back to golfing and drinking with his daddy. Nothing wrong with either of those things, I'd just rather he do more of that so that we don't see or hear from him again. I know, "He's just an athlete," "It's all about the game," whatever. Give me some more coverage of Teddy Bridgewater, who works hard so his mom's sacrifices for him won't be in vain, or Jameis Winston, who works and studies really hard to be a good leader and example. Like it or not, kids look up to these guys, and the only good thing we could gain from another 10 years of Johnny Football is an example of what NOT to be. I hope for his sake that he comes around, but he's a spoiled little turd with minimal impetus to do so.

  45. Excuse me. I have donated $$$ to the program for a number of years & have a President's Council Plate sitting on my desk. I was a season ticket holder for years and traveled over 400 miles to several games a year or had someone in my seats when I couldn't. Haven't been up for a game since 2010 due to my health, but NT still accepts my money. I've earned the right and I'll post what I please, when I please thank you.
