  1. 1) Through 3 CUSA games our defense has given up 30 points total...or 10 a game 2) La Tech is giving us all the respect that you'd expect from a delusional fan base. Apparently the loss was all about how poor they are and not in the least about how we're playing some good football. 3) Baylor put up 71 points. 4) aTm lost but I think they'll still maintain the "best in Texas" crown. But Baylor may be pretty close 4) UH lost. 5) We SHOULD come into the Halloween game seeking win #6. It is imperative that we start NOW working on finding friends to bring to this game. Who is your +1? 6) I just got off the phone with RV. He confirmed that we did indeed win back to back games today. 7) Camping with my girls is sooo much sweeter when I can listen to a Mean Green win on the radio.

  2. The players and coaches came over and did the NORTH! TEXAS! chant with the crowd. Very cool.

  4. Excuse me. I have donated $$$ to the program for a number of years & have a President's Council Plate sitting on my desk. I was a season ticket holder for years and traveled over 400 miles to several games a year or had someone in my seats when I couldn't. Haven't been up for a game since 2010 due to my health, but NT still accepts my money. I've earned the right and I'll post what I please, when I please thank you.

  5. Nice turnout at ESSC for the game today. About 25 or so fans decked out in Green & White, probably another 20 or so not as spiritedly dressed but into the game. Best part was immediately following the win John played a recorded version of the fight song through the sound system and the entire bar clapped and sang along to it. The FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT portion was deafening. This ship is being righted. Full steam ahead. Go Mean Green!

  6. Be smart. Use the 1st quarter to set up the 4th. Trust your defense & your game plan. Adjust to what your opponent shows you. Don't panic & don't pay attention to the folks who insist on negativity.

  7. This young man could have decided to sulk after having an all-conference freshman year only to lose his starting position this year. Instead, he has worked hard, put the team first, done what has been asked of him and gets a pick 6 and another INT to seal the win. Great job Zac!

  8. Your all-is-lost post early during a game is becoming a UNT winning tradition, UNT90. When will you learn that a football game is four quarters long?

  10. UNT has only given up 3 defensive TD's in the second half all year. And all 3 TD's were by Georgia. 6/7 games we have not given up a defensive TD in the second half.... Boys that one for the ages right now -- UNT strength of schedule as of last week was 25th in the nation http://www.gberatings.com/sos/

  12. I have to hand it to you UNT90. You sure know how to wreck a good time. Your post are a complete beating. Ya ya I know I don't have to read them but I have gomeangreen OCD and must read each topic sequentially. Plumm's being the only exception. They give me seizures

  13. There was great coverage of our win over LaTech on CBS Channel 11 News and on ABC Channel 8 News. Both newscasts showed highlights on our game. The CBS sports anchor used the phrase "the revitalized Mean Green" in their coverage. And the ABC newcast showed UNT's game highlights before it showed SMU's.

  14. I was one of them there! had a blast and loved how both screens show the UNT game. it was funny when a unt student walked in around halftime wearing an a&m polo expecting to watch the game by the bar. Sorry bud you are in Mean Green Nation

  15. Even if we have small crowds, our crowds are always vocal. What a weak crowd, easily overpowered by 800 NT fans. Also, thank god we don't play in that stadium, I loved how George & Hank called it "Fouts east." We have it good.

  16. The NORTH TEXAS cheer was clearly audible on the CBS Sports broadcast of the game.

  17. Maybe if we all had respect for each other and just talked football without making it personal, you could have respect, and be respected, by/for everybody. What do you say?

  19. I don't mind the early conservative play calling. Our play book opens up throughout a game according to the situation and what the opponent is doing defensively. Some early execution on some of the plays against defenses designed to stop that specific play call would really allow for an expanded playbook early in a game. I look at our early play calling as us poking around to see what they are doing and what is working. Ultimately it's been up to the defense to keep us in that game until we figure it out. I wish we'd have the offensive play calling figured out at the very beginning, but at least it adjusts, which is more than I can say for previous coaching staffs. The defensive execution seems to indicate the same thing on that side of the ball. Come out trying to execute the way you want to play and then figure some things out and adjust to what they are doing to shut them down. The huge change this year has been our defense stops at the end of games and our offensive red zone ability to score tds instea of previously missed FGs.

  20. This does a good job illustrating that, in fact, football is four quarters and that the knee-jerk "we suck" "fire mac" "same old same old" threads in the first five minutes of the game should stop.

  21. You gotta be careful what you ask for. I notice we are wearing the opposing Ds out before we even get to half time. Passing on 1st down might open things up more quickly, but we also might not start to wear the other team out so soon. We could avoid these two-possession holes early jn the game, or we might not. There's just no telling. Regardless, I'm glad we're nitpicking about being a better team and not spinning stats for moral victories. Fun team to follow in my book.

  23. What a bullshit response. What does that have to do with anything? Not everyone is able to travel to the road games for whatever reason, and if has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this thread. Funny how DB90 stopped posting in this thread when we took thd lead.

  25. 1st Quarter: North Texas 31, Opponents 46 - You probably could have guessed this. The only 2 opponents to not score are Tulane and MTSU. NT didn't score against Georgia, Tulane or LT. 2nd Quarter: North Texas 70, Opponents 52 - The second quarter has been a track meet. Only Idaho didn't score, NT didn't score against Ohio or Tulane First Half: North Texas 101, Opponents 98 - Slow starts and fast finishes to the first half have been the norm for the Mean Green so far. 3rd Quarter: North Texas 50, Opponents 28 - Only Georgia has scored against the defense (14) in the 3rd. Tulane had the other 14 points off the pick-6 and the FG block. NT scored every game except MTSU. 4th Quarter: North Texas 48, Opponents 22 - Only Georgia reached the end zone in the 4th, and only Georgia and La Tech have kept the Mean Green from the end zone in the 4th. 2nd Half: North Texas 98, Opponents 50 - The North Texas defense has allowed 3 second half TD's, all to Georgia. The Mean Green have 2nd half offensive TD's against every opponent except Georgia, usually multiple (exception Georgia and MTSU) Overall: North Texas 199, Opponents 148: Two bad-luck plays from being 6 - 1

  26. UNT is 4-3 and won two games in a row. Instead of talking about that, you want to take hypothetical shots at hypothetical fans for a hypothetical 0-6 season. The contortions you go through to always be disgruntled here are pretty amazing.

  28. We have the best D in CUSA. 3 games is enough of a sample to say that, I think. I hope we come put aggressive and pound the crap out of a terrible USM team Saturday. That would make Rice at home on Halloween quite special.

  30. So what I say is correct, but you just don't like to hear it? Got it. Carry on . Any gameplan that includes intentionally getting down by 2 scores so you can "figure out what they are doing" is a completely failed game plan in my book. But that's just me.

  31. It is awesome to see a new player step up each week. For a long time there has only been a couple players capable of stepping up, now it could any number of guys out there! So excited about this season!!!

  32. Have to say I had a heck of a mean green watching experience today as well! I stopped into a local watering hole that had about 15 people in it, none of thm wanted to watch the Mean Green. I had them turn it on and by the end of the second quarter the entire bar was into it, we turned off the OU game and put the Mean Green on the main screen, cheering ensued. Awesome! There wasn't a person in the room that wasn't interested in little ole UNT doing well and they all knew how well the team was doing this year so far. Seeing it on TV got those guys actually into the team and I can say it was fun watching with invested folks and getting new people into the Mean Green! We really do have a sleeping fan base here in town, and they aren't all alums either. Today proved that to me.

  38. Andrew Guillot pulled in 99 yards from passes from Ryan Higgins today. The next highest number of yards from Higgins' passes was Zac Whitfield, with 66. Haha our defensive back did more with their QB's passes than all but one of their receivers

  39. How big was Orr shutting down the run game? The announcer said once that when the LaTech RB was was taking off his jersey after the game he was going to be looking for Orr...kinda weird reference, but you got the point. Our defense made that RB look very ordinary.

  43. Is it weird that I consider Baylor in the DFW area....? I always saw Baylor, TCU, SMU, and UNT as the big four in the area. I a Ways wished we could somehow be in the same conference or at least play each other consistently in multiple sports.

  48. Maybe folks need to wait awhile before they start the whine parade. UNT up 14-10. I recall lots of folks saying..."just win". Why don't we see if the Mean Green wins this one before our own fans start booing again like a few did as UNT trounced MT last week. Just saying...the game is at half and whatever it looks like...UNT is winning. I would rather win "ugly" than lose "pretty". Hope here for that elusive ugly road win. Just FYI...my Ok St Cowboys found a way to win UGLY over TCU today in the early game...hey, where is Froggy these days? OSU benched Denton's J W Walsh in the first half after a couple of terribly ugly interceptions. And OSU fumbled the ball away on about the 6...but found a way to win ugly. UNT can do the same.

  49. 10:00 left in the second, and still no first down pass. I could game plan against this offense

  50. He completed 491 in 1,015 attempts...less than 50% for his career. Also, he threw 67 interceptions. So, more than 6% of his passes were intercepted. Derek has completed a higher percentage and 3% of his passes have been intercepted. Yes, the times were different. But, the bottom line is, Ramsey played on NT teams that had more talent for that era on both sides of the ball. And, you know what? It's crazy that I'm now a Derek Thompson apologist. When we signed him, I scoffed because he only had one other offer - from one of the directional Division II New Mexico schools. I mocked the people who said he was a sleeper and compared it to Darrell Dickey's so-called "stealth" recruiting that Todd Dodge was supposedly saving us from. Having family in Granbury and knowing how little football tradition it has, then thinking of little Glen Rose down the road a piece...it was just all highly laughable to me that this kid was a I-A/FBS-level quarterback. But, guess what? Derek has proved me wrong and I'm big enough to admit it. I admire this kid a ton. He has bled for this team. To wit: -2009: His redshirt was originally burned in the final drive of a horrible season during a game that really meant nothing in the overall scheme of things. -2010: He suffered a major injury early in the following season -2010: The year he suffered the major injury he was not the starter. He was called to duty because of the injury to Nathan Tune. He was ready when called upon as all players at all positions should be at all times if the give a damn about the program/school which is paying for their education! He wasn't moping, going to twitter to rant, or transferring out because he wasn't The Guy. -2011: He overcomes injury to become the starting QB and leads us to the first five win season, and non-losing conference record, since 2004. -2012: He plays through a season where the fans turn on him despite having few playmakers at receiver, and the main one, Chancellor, being lost for the last quarter of the season. -2013: He keeps calm and keeps the starting QB job despite having the head coach put it up for grabs. -2013: He is among the top three QBs in the conference. He is in the Top 20 for the entire NCAA for completion percentage, Top 15 for completions, Top 35 for QB efficiency. -2013: Through all of the fan bitching about him, he stays above the fray and leads the team. He doesn't pout, rant on twitter/facebook, or embarrass the university...and, I doubt he ever will. This is not a kid who will turn around someday and cuss the fans back or give them the finger or criticize coaches, fans, or teammates. Derek Thompson has turned me from skeptic to believer. After all this kid has done for this school during an obvious transition time (stadium, coaches, conferences), I don't see how anyone can be critical of him. If anyone on that campus can be called true to the Mean Green, it is Derek. We say we want a football team full of good kids who love the university, play hard, and do things right on and off the field. Guess what? Derek Thompson is that kid. So, f*ck you.
