The players and coaches came over and did the NORTH! TEXAS! chant with the crowd. Very cool.5 points

And 4-3 for the first time since 2003. Starting to shake some bad stats and going places that we haven't been in a while. Getting fun. More fun ahead. GMG5 points

Your all-is-lost post early during a game is becoming a UNT winning tradition, UNT90. When will you learn that a football game is four quarters long?5 points

SUMG's father, William Howard McDowell worked his way off a farm in Louisiana to attend La Tech and graduate in 1937 as a chemist. From the stories I have heard he was a good man and a great father. Here is his brick among the thousands of other graduates honored along a paved walkway across campus. So cool. Wished NT did this. Rick4 points

11/18/2004 was the last time NT won consecutive games. Bataille's legacy/tenure really differs depending on who one talks to I guess. All I know is she has been the only President to actually visit this area looking to reconnect alumni with Denton. And she did it twice. For that, I'll always think highly of her.3 points

Got here to the tailgate spot and treated to a bonus early morning softball game between La Tech and ULM. It's the fall ball season. The La Tech parents tell me their new coach has been great an accommodating, such as scheduling this game early on homecoming so they can take advantage of the incoming fans. Rick3 points

Maybe folks need to wait awhile before they start the whine parade. UNT up 14-10. I recall lots of folks saying..."just win". Why don't we see if the Mean Green wins this one before our own fans start booing again like a few did as UNT trounced MT last week. Just saying...the game is at half and whatever it looks like...UNT is winning. I would rather win "ugly" than lose "pretty". Hope here for that elusive ugly road win. Just FYI...my Ok St Cowboys found a way to win UGLY over TCU today in the early game...hey, where is Froggy these days? OSU benched Denton's J W Walsh in the first half after a couple of terribly ugly interceptions. And OSU fumbled the ball away on about the 6...but found a way to win ugly. UNT can do the same.2 points

That's way cool. Great find! Nice of SUMG to honor his father in such a way. And would be cool for UNT as well. We do have such a program utilizing the space at the Alumni Pavilion. Many grads have honored alums in such a manner. Everyone should check it out at the Alumni Pavilion before the next game. Bricks are still available for purchase by the way. OSU does the same thing at their Alumni Center on campus. Really nice way to honor someone.2 points

I am sad to report that the legendary Bum Phillips has passed away. He was 90 years old.2 points

A couple of VPs and other administrators that I'm close with are leaning in Michael's direction and it simply makes sense. Been a professor here for 23 years, chaired his department, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dean of Toulouse, and the brief stint as VP of Advancement to prove he can raise money and deal in alumni relations (which that new agreement solidifies). And Rawlins/Burggren love him. And he's made it explicitly clear that he's angling to be a university president in the near future. It's that one rare opportunity where producing someone from the inside makes much more sense over bringing in someone from outside; knows the campus and it's constituents through and through, has excellent respect and cooperation with the city of Denton, and loves the Mean Green. If I had money to bet I'd seriously put some down on Michael.2 points

Dr. Battaille was not our Chancellor. She was UNT-Denton's President. However to many, myself included, our Chancellor is extremely detrimental to our university.2 points

UNT is an academic institution first. If the drive to tier one status is not at the forefront of this hire, the hire will be catastrophic to the University.2 points

Love it all you want but talking crap about recruits and our recruiting standards does nothing but help hurt our program. He and OUR RECRUITS don't need your subpar high school expertise or recruiting websites to know where he needs to be. It does however, hinder hinder relationships that these parents and family members form with our staff and our university when you publicly slander them. I know as fact that our players and our recruits read this forum. Please be mindful of that as you post. As a side note: not all offers are exposed publicly. And if you're judging strictly on film I would revise past statements on SEVERAL RECRUITED PLAYERS THREADS.2 points

That's not exactly rocket science. THE recruits have definitely improved over the past couple of years for North Texas. If you know what you're talking about (and they aren't just recruiting anyone who wants to come and play) our new recruits have been recruited for more than just the availability/competitive talent to play RIGHT NOW. This isn't the NFL. There's a big big difference in a 18 year old whois an awesome high school athlete and shows collegiate potential in speed, strength and agility and a 21 to 22 year old that the program has had the ability to mold for a couple of years. And they quite possibly recruit players for a different positions that they hold in high school. If you base your intelligence strictly off of rivals and Yahoo Sports, you're missing significant details.2 points

RV directly blamed the players. A completely bush league move from an A.D. And he did it to remove pressure from himself, which is even more concerning (how could he blame the coach that was his personal pick?). What R.V. should have said is "Look, we are all disappointed by last year. The athletic department, including myself, Coach Benford, and everyone on his staff apologizes for an inexcusable season. That result is not acceptable and cannot be repeated at this university. I understand that. Coach Benford understands that, and steps are being taken to make sure last year's performance is not repeated." Instead, we got good ole Ricochet Rick, shucking and jiving away from responsibility. But, hey, he has the right set of friends, so nothing is ever his fault. Don't believe me? Just look at his shiny new 10 year contract.1 point

I love it! Hope John has the fiery intensity to prove the recruiting websites that you do. Actually, that's probably where you got that from. Personally, I factor in a player's offer list, film, and his recruiting site rankings in that offer with the first two subject to alternation. I trust a player's offer list before I trust my personal evaluation of his film, because I cede that I am not a professional talent evaluator. Just a college kid who played in high school and has watched college football obsessively since I was 7. When a player has been recruited over it means that a player has been passed on the depth chart by a younger player. Some freshman come in bigger and/or faster than a 21 or 22 year old could ever get. This is a good thing for the program and means that recruiting is improving. An example is Darvin Kidsy playing over seniors like Pleasant and Caldwell. Cyril Lemon starting as a true freshman is another example. John playing as a freshman is an example too, make no mistake about it. Diamond in the roughs are great to have, especially the ones that pan out. But it's also great to get highly-rated guys who a lot of people want and can contribute early like Zach Orr and Cyril Lemon.1 point
