The best part......UNT is on the front page of the sports with the 2 largest pictures. smu is on the bottom of page 9, no picture, and the headline is "SMU numbers not adding up."7 points

The DFW media has ALWAYS been ready to embrace UNT athletics. Hell, half of them are UNT grads. UNT just hasn't given them any reason for such an embrace. They have actually done the program a favor by ignoring it's failures (a favor I wish they wouldn't do). Give them a reason to talk about us, and they will talk about us a lot more than they do about SMU or TCU. We just haven't given them that reason.7 points

George mentioned on The Ticket this morning that both Gosselin and Craig Way were at the game Saturday night. Gosselin has written a couple of articles on Coach Mac in the past 2 seasons. Good to see any publicity about the Mean Green!7 points

Once again East Side Social Club will be showing this weeks game against Louisiana Tech on CBS sports at 2:30 pm on Saturday. We do have menus for Mellow Mushroom, Rusty Taco and Weinbergers and they will all deliver over their food. Or you can bring food in from anywhere else to watch the game. Ans yes we do have Saint Arnolds Root Beer on tap and a few other non alcoholic options if you dont feel like partaking on one of our 89 beers on tap. Games that will be showed for sure the rest of season 10/26 - unt @southern miss @ 6pm on Fox College Sports 10/31- unt vs. rice @ 6pm on Fox Sports 1 11/30- unt vs tulsa @ TBA on Fox sports Still working on UTEP and UTSA game. You know guys... we already have a pretty good chant already available for 3rd down defensive stands. The band initiates it every time. The students usually get into it. Problem is, NO ONE PARTICIPATES on the alumni side. Sitting in 205, I hear the band start up: Bop, bop bop bop, bop bop bop. <Crowd supposed to say> NORTH TEXAS! Bop, bop bop bop, bop bop bop. NORTH TEXAS! Bop, bop bop bop, bop bop bop. NORTH TEXAS! Bop, bop bop bop, bop bop bop. NORTH TEXAS FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT! I always see some young alumni coming over to 205 and when the band starts this up, they do the first "NORTH TEXAS!", usually solo. Then, they turn around and look at people like... "oh, we don't do that over here? I hope no one heard me because that's embarrassing." ...and give up. Why can't we all do this one?4 points

The first intelligent thing Mark has said on the Basketball forum and it was rehashed information. Good job Mark!3 points

I could be wrong on this, but I seem to remember some criticism from you for trying to run against 8 man fronts. Now you will only be impressed when they can run against an 8 man front?3 points

A lot of those big plays being limited have been due to the change in starting corners, and the quality of the qb we have been facing.3 points

How about instead of looking to some awful corporate restaurant with terrible food served by walking STDs, you go patron a place like the East Side Social Club...owned and operated by a good, strong UNT alum and athletics supporter, TVs inside and out, massive beer and whiskey selection.3 points

A couple of reasons why. 1. The band plays all game long and folks watching the game start to ignore what is being played. Everyone knows third down is the time to get loud and produce sustained noise so that there is no break in between. A band-led chant is hard to do produce sustain noise, and third down is certainly not the time to try it. The one you mentioned has been in place for 4 or 5 years now, and as you can see there are folks among the most supportive groups...posters here at Gmg.com,.. who didnt even know about it. I tried to explain that this would fail to officials and it in-one-ear-out-the-other'd on them. 2. The band isn't always available....ie.. when we are on the road. So a band prompt like that will never grow. Right after we tied up Georgia and before the TV time out Sanford stadium was in utter shock and disbelief....AND SILENT. All you could hear were our players yelling and the 150 or so people in Green yelling as well. At that time or soon after would have been a perfect time to have a unified chant with a start and ending prompted by our cheerleaders. Had we done that and pulled that game out later on that chant would become legendary and people who went on to Tulane and returned to Apogee for the Middle would have jumped at the chance to do it and teach it to their friends and family. That's how it is done and grows and becomes tradition. Rick2 points

There's quite a narrative being seeded in the last few media articles right now - especially this one and today's DMN.2 points

Very true. Frankly we don't have to be world beaters to get improved publicity. Beat the teams we are supposed to and be competitive against the Georgia's. We were competitive against Georgia according to one of the top sports writers. Now we need to beat the teams we are supposed to beat! Starting with La Tech.2 points

Just a note, ETSN.fm staff writer Gabe Brooks, in addition to being a really super awesome human being, is an NT alum and was an NT Daily sports editor during the bowl era.2 points

I would not be surprised with a low scoring game with both teams trying to establish the run game. They have a very good run game and a below average/bad run defense. We have slightly below average numbers in terms of run defense. Two coaches that both like to run. This could be an ugly, not very exciting game to watch, but I sure am pulling for the guys in green to come away with a win regardless of style points. LA Tech has to feel like this is darn near a must win game, at home. We have shown an uncanny skill for losing on the road. This will be a tough test. If we can somehow come away with the win, we may not look back. If we lose, we immediately go right back behind the 8 ball.2 points

2 guys on all three defensive teams? Orr the only 1st teamer? No Laramie Lee or Marcus Trice? This should change by years end.2 points

The ground game didn't get going against MTSU until AFTER we threw the ball on first down. Then the MUTS started backing off some....and the rest is history., After arriving at NT, one of the first things that Hayden Fry said about his offensive philosophy was "I'm going to throw first to set up the run". Obviously one of the lessons from a great mentor that McCarney decided to ignore. Look for Tech to do the same as Tulane and every one else....stack 8 and 9 in the box and dare us to throw on first down.2 points

Tulane is 45 ? Damn. What an opportunity we had there. I am convinced this team would beat Tulane on most days.2 points

6'4"? Wow! I like that without knowing anything else! Assume she can play as well or Coach Pete would not have been recruiting her!2 points

On the road against #108 and #122. Can you say opportunity games? This has set up quite nicely for UNT, and if we can't get over the bowl hump this year, I really don't know if we ever will. Beat La. Tech. And beat them badly.2 points

So nobody is going to mention the awesome hospitality that is East Side Social Club? Now that I know he shows every game he can, I can't imagine going to Hooters. No food service? P'Shaw. They bring around local menus like Rusty Taco that'll deliver to you in the bar.2 points

Keep an eye out who UT's new AD will be. Rumors are going around about West Virginia's AD Oliver Luck. That would be Andrew Lucks father. If he is chosen that would be a big win for beer sales.1 point

You're not kidding. I ordered a barbecue sandwich at the Ball St. game that I expected to be "fresh." They threw the dang thing in the microwave! Yeah, I'm still burping that thing up.1 point

You have to also realize that Middle Tenn did not stack 8 in the box like all the other teams. So I really question whether or not we have gotten better in the run game.1 point

Why do you knock it so much? Some sort of PC thing for you? I support it because they support the Mean Green, and I find most folks who knock the place do so out of pure ignorance along with a toss in of PC crap-loa. The local store has a mean green manager who has never turned me down when I asked for support for antof the GMG.com scholarship games I manage, and that is something Icannot say for several other places I have gone asking support . In addition, the local store contributes to the Mean Green and hires UNT students. Simple reasons. You do not have to go there if you choose not to do so. But. I see zero positive to be gained from knocking them or saying ugly things about the folks who are employed there.1 point

ESSC was just going under construction last time I was in town...I did spend a couple hours of a beautiful afternoon in the Oak Street beer garden, though...and I trust John has done well with ESSC...I don't recall Oak Street having TVs...certainly not outside...thus my encouraging ESSC as a watching venue Saturday. And yes...there was a bit of hyperbole...it is just frustrating to see people still considering (and apparently UNT promoting) watching parties at places like Hooters in Denton when there are far better places owned by UNT alums.1 point

No more Hooters for me (the restaurant that is)...ESSC for me..enjoyed the Tulane game (until the last play)...check it out folks1 point
