  1. Be careful coming over - Here are some tips - 1) Most parking around the stadium is reserved - but you can park in the rugby hill for $10. Best bet is to park on campus for free and make the short walk over 2) There will be no lack of food - plenty of people will feed you 3) If you drink - ditch the can or bottle and pour into the cup - white Styrofoam is best, red solo is for losers from Oklahoma 4) Supposed to be nice weather - High 70's in the afternoon with some cloud cover so the east side will not be too blinding I'm not a Skip Holtz fan - thought it was a mistake from the get go and nothing I have seen makes me think otherwise We have Dixon, who is a man amongst boys and a promising young qb - so goes Dixon so goes us Our defense is psychotic at best We tend to turn the ball over in the absolute worst and stupidest locations - mainly driving for the winning score Glad ya'll are in the conference with us Enjoy the beautiful campus and improving facilities - Here are some joints to eat at - Dowlings - BBQ (best in town) just north of the Tech Exit Dawghouse - best burgers and onion straws around (service is slow, but food is great) off Homer Street behind the campus Cheeburger Cheeburger - good burgers also Log Cabin - good grill with lots of variety (Farmerville Hwy) Ponchatolas - downtown if you want a Cajun flair Scott's Catfish - Famerville Hwy Ronin - if you like Hibachi type grill Peeking - if you want Pekinese type buffet We also have the stable of Canes, Zaxbys, Chilis, Applebees, Logans, etal Have fun and see y'all there

  2. I believe this two game stretch on the road may be among the most important we've see in a long time. We have the opportunity to set up our Halloween night game as potential win #6. We will have a captive TV audience on Halloween and a 5-3 record would be amazing. And, let's face it, winning back o back on the road would go a LOOOONNG way toward energizing anyone who follows this team. So, here's my suggestion. We've asked Mac to do HIS part (rightfully so). If he delivers, and I believe he will, then let's throw out all of our excuses and do OUR part. Let's commit to a +1 operation. Every one of us makes sure that every ticket we have is spoken for...plus one more person. So, for instance, I have three season tickets...I'll make sure there are 4 in my party on Halloween night.

  5. Close the cafeterias on campus for dinner and force the students to eat at Apogee. They did this last year for one game and it seemed to bring a lot of kids to the tailgate area. Rather than serving them outside though, let's serve them inside - perhaps allow their student ID's to work at all concession stands OR PaPa John's that stuff - tables at each section passing out a couple of slices and a bottled drink as they make their way to their seats. Costume Cam - throughout the game the camera pans the crowd - if you are costumed and it stops on you and they circle your image you win a $50 gift card. Do it during every TV timeout. May help keep some students in their seats. Better than an actual costume contest because that only offers ONE winner. There can be something in the neighborhood of 20 tv timeouts in college football - that's only $1,000USD IF there were the full 20. Scary-oeke - Rather than a regular college football halftime we do a "talent show" karaoke style. Students sign up before the game - perhaps a week before - list the song they wish to perform - 3 to 5 are chosen via a lottery pick. They "sing" in costume of course, on stage at the 50 yard line. Crowd response picks the winner. Winner gets....? Gift card, free studio time to cut a demo...tuition...???

  7. Let's be honest here. It's going to be a VERY tough call for families with young kids. I've already dropped the bomb on my 4 kids, 3 of which are in prime trick or treating ages. Let me just say, it was not pretty. I was the target of a tsunami of whining that you wouldn't believe. Let me just give a you a sampling of some of the discussion: "WHAT!?!? on halloween? NO WAY DAD! I'm not going. You can't make me." -anonymous, age 10 "It is going to be SO BORING!" - anonymous, also age 10 "Well you're going, and you're going to have fun!!! They'll have bounce houses" - father, age 38 "Who cares! I want to trick or treat in OUR neighborhood. " - anonymous, you guessed it - age 10 Guys, I don't know if I can win this battle. I may end up sitting in the stands by myself with maybe my oldest son, age 12. That's a drop of 6 from our usual count. Not sure if my parents who normally go with us can make it either on a work night. It is what it is I guess. Just be prepared for some bad numbers on the alum side.

  8. After our stint in the Cotton Bowl in 1981 I swore I'd never go back to Fair Park for any event there and I haven't. I really wish ex Dallas Mayor Laura "too liberal to function" Miller and her City Council would not have stiff armed Jerry Jones who wanted to "only" spend $1 billion plus out there for his new stadium and all the other percs to revitalize that part of Big D but that was yesterday and yesterday's gone For a bowl game against the Iowa Hawkeyes (can you say...nirvana)......or even Indiana U I would break that Fair Park "no show" streak. U of Iowa ? I can still go back to that cold December (1978) morning when I lived off Walnut Hill Lane (Irving) and when KRLD sports announced that Hayden Fry had taken the U of Iowa job. I almost fell out of bed with that announcement because for some strange reason I knew things were about to dramatically change for Mean Green football--boy howdy did they ever; but now I feel so much better than ever about how high our present HFC from the Fry Coaching Tree can take this Mean Green football program with ranked teams toward the top of my personal wish list as something I now see as do-able (again). GMG!

  9. I believe we are better than these teams but no game is a gimme when Mac's squads currently sport these records: As road team: 2-14 After a win: 0-10 I can't wait until I can ignore these numbers having seen evidence of change...it begins in Ruston!

  10. Coming off a really poor game plan in the first half which IMHO cost UNT a winnable game against Tulane last week, despite that, despite the weather, despite a big game locally (that HAMMERED the TCU attendance)...students showed up, fans showed up, Apogee gave you the environment you wanted for your team. You asked and the fans delivered. Now It's your turn. DO NOT go into the La Tech game with the same OVER conservative gamelan you did at Tulane, that you do at most road games. Resist your nature to gamelan your team into a shell on the road. Trust these players to make plays. Be aggressive early. These players have earned your trust. The next home game is going to be hard enough to get a big crowd. Give people a reason to come up there on Halloween night. PLAY TO WIN NEXT SATURDAY. The fans implore you.

  12. What's a medical hardship waiver? Is that like a medical redshirt?

  13. Just throwing this out there.. Not that this will ever come to fruition, (and I'm kinda only half serious) but eagleish masks for first "whatever #" students at Rice Halloween game. Like this.... but green? http://www.themask.nl/epages/08011005.mobile/?ObjectPath=/Shops/08011005/Products/SC.34298&Locale=en_GB There's cheaper routes, you get the point. I know that if I'm Rice and turn around to face a student section with these things on... it would freak me the bleep out. Not to mention FOX SPORTS/ TV PEOPLE would totally dig this.

  15. He's already used a redshirt, so even getting the medical hardship waiver would not guarantee him a 6th year. And we just don't have a very good batting average with getting that 6th year. If he's going to be anywhere near 100% by the end of the season, we might as well try to get him on the field this year. And guys, I'm pretty sure it's Anthony Wallace, not Aaron.

  19. I think the alumni will come out. I think there will be a lot of buzz around the team if we can win these next two road games.

  20. No turning back now. Most likely, we will need the largest student turnout of the year just to get close to the MTSU crowd. A little nervous about the potential alumni turnout.

  21. A nice start would be winning these next two road games against teams that we are better than. And we are better than La Tech and USM. Make no mistake about it.

  23. FIU in 2011, Ohio and Tulane this year. I bet if one took to time to look, you would see this as a pattern on the road. It damn sure had been this year. Take what the defense gives you, coach. If they do what MTSU did, run it down their throats. If they do what Tulane and Ohio did, throw it over the top. But, most importantly, win an important game on the road for a change. Please.

  27. I'd be even better if we used the jumbotron. Either way, I think a chant like that is enough to spur a pretty good one at all the games. We need to time it better before the games. For the Rice game, we need to do it so they can get it on TV.

  28. I wanted to let those who are interested in the new online program know that I recently renewed online and it only took 3 weeks and 4 days to get my new license. But there were some things about it I didn't understand at first and just had to go through the process to find out on my own. I received my license the first year they were offered in 1995, and this was my 4th renewal. What confused me a bit is, If you are in your third or fourth renewal term you will get a notice in the mail explaining that if you have taken a renewal course two straight terms in a row without a break in between...AND you took the shooting and classroom course, that course is now good for 10 years. This does not mean your new renewal will be good for 10 years, it means if you took it the last time and it was an immediate second renewal in a row, that you do not need to take the course this time around. Does that make sense? It didn't to me when I first read that thing, and their online website is sort of confusing at first. However, I contacted them through email and they responded quickly to my questions. After you register for renewal, you'll be sent a confusing email that will have a big bar code at the top, and the email tells you to send in your listed items required for re-registering. However, there's nothing hardly listed. So you'll be looking at this list thinking WTH am I to send in? Well, what you will send in is simply a copy of that BAR CODE they just sent you. I know, that's strange, because afterall.....they just sent it to you. So why do they need you to send it right back? I have no idea, but that's all you have to do. I simply saved it to a file and sent it back as an attachment. The online process is a bit confusing at first but after thinking back on it it's pretty efficient and like I said, it only took three weeks and four days and my new license was in the mail at the house, and I didn't have to sit through an 8 hour class this time, which would have been my 4th time. This new license of course is now good for another 5 years. If anyone has a renewal coming up and has a question concerning this new process send me a PM and I'll be happy to help you out. Rick

  30. Page 5 arguing a simple fact? Only at North Texas. The attendance that was reported to the NCAA was 21,171. Officially, that's it regardless of whether you thought that it was 3,000 or 30,000. Maybe we hired SMU's attendance counter. Maybe a third of the crowd came in and left before the game started. Maybe 5.000 were still tailgating. I don't know (or care). It was a good, loud crowd and not an embarrassment; embrace it.

  33. We're all understandably antsy' about road games. Next 2 weeks can help cure some of this. In these 2 weeks away from Apogee I hope we sell a bunch of tickets for our Halloween Night nationally televised game. We really need the TV cameras to pan the stadium and see fans (and kids) all over the place. GMG!

  41. Dajon seems to being set up for attempted medical hardship waiver (FFR approves of this term). I hope he gets it. In terms of trying to get McNulty in, personally I never felt comfortable until the last TD. Can't blame Mac for waiting. The last thing we needed was to somehow let that game get close after being up by 17 (easily could have been more without the TO's). However, this is a complaint, I like to hear.
