  2. Has anyone called to verify these standings?

  3. So obviously these are a little fancy so what I'm planning on doing is making an equal number of both and posting them all throughout the buildings on campus and surrounding places that'll let me. Then I'm going to make some lower quality flyers with just text mainly with debunked myths that I'm going to hand out on campus and see if I can get RHA to pass out at the residence halls. I'm also gonna make one with Uncle Sam that says "UNT NEEDS YOU TO BE AT APOGEE" and put that on all the bulletin boards. Also, I'm about to make a Twitter @hit30k in which I post updates on what we're doing, debunked myths and all the like so keep them coming! This post has been promoted to an article

  4. I thought of another myth that refers to SMU, but concerns us. I have often seen in print that SMU was the first "major" school to break the football color barrier in Texas with Jerry Levias. We did it a decade earlier with Abner Haynes and others. As far as "major" is concerned, we were in the Missouri Valley with such teams as Louisville, Cincinnati, Tulsa, etc. I think that qualifies as major.

  6. He completed 491 in 1,015 attempts...less than 50% for his career. Also, he threw 67 interceptions. So, more than 6% of his passes were intercepted. Derek has completed a higher percentage and 3% of his passes have been intercepted. Yes, the times were different. But, the bottom line is, Ramsey played on NT teams that had more talent for that era on both sides of the ball. And, you know what? It's crazy that I'm now a Derek Thompson apologist. When we signed him, I scoffed because he only had one other offer - from one of the directional Division II New Mexico schools. I mocked the people who said he was a sleeper and compared it to Darrell Dickey's so-called "stealth" recruiting that Todd Dodge was supposedly saving us from. Having family in Granbury and knowing how little football tradition it has, then thinking of little Glen Rose down the road a piece...it was just all highly laughable to me that this kid was a I-A/FBS-level quarterback. But, guess what? Derek has proved me wrong and I'm big enough to admit it. I admire this kid a ton. He has bled for this team. To wit: -2009: His redshirt was originally burned in the final drive of a horrible season during a game that really meant nothing in the overall scheme of things. -2010: He suffered a major injury early in the following season -2010: The year he suffered the major injury he was not the starter. He was called to duty because of the injury to Nathan Tune. He was ready when called upon as all players at all positions should be at all times if the give a damn about the program/school which is paying for their education! He wasn't moping, going to twitter to rant, or transferring out because he wasn't The Guy. -2011: He overcomes injury to become the starting QB and leads us to the first five win season, and non-losing conference record, since 2004. -2012: He plays through a season where the fans turn on him despite having few playmakers at receiver, and the main one, Chancellor, being lost for the last quarter of the season. -2013: He keeps calm and keeps the starting QB job despite having the head coach put it up for grabs. -2013: He is among the top three QBs in the conference. He is in the Top 20 for the entire NCAA for completion percentage, Top 15 for completions, Top 35 for QB efficiency. -2013: Through all of the fan bitching about him, he stays above the fray and leads the team. He doesn't pout, rant on twitter/facebook, or embarrass the university...and, I doubt he ever will. This is not a kid who will turn around someday and cuss the fans back or give them the finger or criticize coaches, fans, or teammates. Derek Thompson has turned me from skeptic to believer. After all this kid has done for this school during an obvious transition time (stadium, coaches, conferences), I don't see how anyone can be critical of him. If anyone on that campus can be called true to the Mean Green, it is Derek. We say we want a football team full of good kids who love the university, play hard, and do things right on and off the field. Guess what? Derek Thompson is that kid. So, f*ck you.

  8. I really applaud the effort you are making here. So many want to find D what's wrong at UNT and jump at the first chance they have to belittle or knock those that are trying to help. You seem to be on a positive quest here to do something that will definitely make a difference...and a good one! So, more power to you. Ignore the jackasses that want to be cute and make something negative out of this...hang in there, as there are certainly many more willing to help and willing to support you in your efforts. Well done, Sir. Well done! Appreciate all you are trying to accomplish. We need more just like you.

While it was tempting to announce one of them then chastise any of you who didn't do your homework to find out about the other one...I decided against it. *This is NT football related because I'll need to purchase more season tickets soon

  13. Pre-season against Maccabi Haifa 19 minutes played 5 rebounds 3 fouls 3 point -19 (+-) Surprised he did not have a single block, but he was given some decent minutes. Jerebko and Datome didn't even touch the court.

  15. Here is my take on 'free ticket.' When we played SMU in '89 (I think it was), there was a sellout. Know why it was a sellout? Because I got with Albertson's and Pizza Hut and had them commit to ads in the Record-Chronicle and NT Daily for 10 days consistently up to game time publicizing the game. They already had ad buys in the paper anyway, and just added the game information to the ad. For their free advertising for the game, we gave them about 3,000 tickets to distribute free to the public. Every time someone walked into Pizza Hut or Albertson's they got a free ticket if they asked. The pizza delivery guys also gave free tickets with their deliveries. Now, were those 'free tickets?'....no, they were purchased by Albertson's and Pizza Hut for their advertising commitment. Anyway, it worked and everyone marveled how we sold out the game. If we had not done that promotion, we would have had a good crowd, but not a sellout crowd. Have you ever seen an empty seat buy a coke or a t-shirt?

  23. Guess what, I just looked outside and the sun is shining. Actually, it really is...some of you need to get a new perspective on this whole "life" thing. Good gosh! I really like this SSP person...hang in there, love the attitude and perspective. You will know you have made it when the "usual suspects" start calling you names and wishing death upon you! Folks, trust me...the world is still spinning on its axis, the sun is up and will come up, and there will always be another game. It's called a game for a reason. Enjoy the ride...everyone is headed for the same destination...while spoil the trip with an always crappy and negative outlook?

  25. You know.... After watching both highlight videos one would think that we won the game. Nothing really impresses me about Tulane other than their swarming defense. But something tells me that our offense made them look a lot better than they actually are. Tulanes highlight video doesn't seem to show that they outplayed us as much as it shows a bunch of huge stupid mistakes by MG.

  28. I have never understood how bemoaning attendance does anything but perpetuate poor attendance. I know McCarney did it in a good way, but never the less what purpose does it serve? My bet is there is not one person, who heard or read his statement, that says, by golly he is right; I am going to buy a ticket and go. More likely, the few none game going people who read that think: the same old NT, why don't those people give up. Not exactly good marketing. I read the some variation of the same thing almost every year about NT attendance. Sell beer, advertise more, cheaper seats, band days or the like; none of those things have any long lasting effect. Building a culture of athletic support is a slow process, but the main ingredient is winning against worthy opponents. A program is not going to win them all, but there has to be a some expectation of a win in a game that matters. This has to be continued for years to establish an enlarged fan group. NT has been horrible at this, no two wins in a row in how long? The basketball program successfully build up to a new plateau and has the most ballyhooed team in NT history returning and goes cheap and hires a journeyman assistant coach with no hc experience and sets the MBB program back as far as possible in one year. The Dickey's teams have conference success and NT not only doesn't build on it; they allow Dickey to bad mouth the school and effectively bottom the program. These are missed opportunities in the RV era, but it has gone on long before that. Attendance can be grown, but not by proclamation. There has to be continued improvement and all the gimmicks in the world are not going to replace it.

  29. Coach needs to realize that this is not Ames. Dallas fans have standards and you must win to keep them coming. I still don't understand why we don't have season tickets goals attendance goals every year and this should absolutely be tied to rick's performance plan and evaluation. I swear this university runs like Washington at times. Time for some Mean Green tea. GMG

  31. While I don't want it to rain because of the negative impact it will have on attendance and our passing game, I will say that some of the games I've had the most fun at in the past have been rain games...the three that come to mind are: 1) 2009 vs. Ohio - Despite the final result it was a blast with in the rain with the legitimate few thousand students that showed up. 2) 2011 vs. MTSU - A little on the chilly side, but hopefully we can repeat that demolition of MUTS this Saturday. 3) 2007 vs. WKU - If I remember right we won by 1 point and there was a bit of a scrum afterwards. It was in the mid-30's for temperature and was absolutely miserable, but in those years it was worth the sacrifice to see a W. Rain or shine what we need is a W. Go Mean Green!

  36. Well, I may have some good news coming soon in regards to the design...but I don't want to say anything as of yet until I get some more details and discussion surrounding it. Thanks everyone for the encouragement, though. I'm definitely not gonna quit because of the negativity, we WILL get this thing filled. I can only do so much about alumni, but I want to get the students out in mass.

  37. Yep, instead of crying, do something about it. Hats off to Potts. If the public thinks the university thinks that a home game is a big deal the chances are better for ticket sales. I have sent the athletic department various suggestions, but never even heard back.

  42. Until we quit finding ways to lose close games I don't see how you can say we're any better now than we've been for the longest time. It's what we've always done and we're still at it. We're still only (thus far) beating the teams we certainly should beat at home. We still don't win coins flip games on the road. We're still (at this point) just us.
