  2. Just when I thought all the great Texan hospitality was 100%, enter Froggy. You remember your MWC "one and done" win in Boise? Decked in TCU purple that day in the stands, in Boise stores/eateries were Idaho fans. Our large Boise base cheered you guys on. My plan to tour Ft. Worth and your campus is questionable now after insulting the UI and my UNT friends. By the way, do some research on UI and UNT football history. Not only are these great academic institutions, they have their fair share playing (have played) on Sunday. Idaho fans are proud, as our UNT fans. Here's a brief primer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idaho_Vandals_football Admittedly, not quite the storied prestige of TCU, but we are unconditionally loyal through the good and bad. Just like you, I imagine, have been through Tohill, Shofner, Dry, Wacker and Sullivan . . .but you do sound like a small froogy, so you still may have been that wink in Horny's eyes? You do talk about those 26 years of mediocrity, right?

  4. This posts makes me want to abandon this board and Vito's blog until game day just so that I have no clue who's going to play on game day. But then again I was a kid who opened my presents before Christmas and re-wrapped them so my parents didn't find out.

  5. Chancellor is the best kick returner North Texas has seen since Brock McGrew . . . maybe better. He holds the all-time North Texas records for K.O. return yards in a game, season, and career. Do you remember his 2 90+ yard returns for TDs against K-State the last game in 2010? Or his 285 return yards against Houston in 2011? He's turned out to be a pretty good receiver, too. He was our leading receiver in 2011, and certainly would have been in 2012 had it not been for his injury. He had 2 TD catches against LSU. Everybody remembers Jimmerson's run against LaLa last year, but we don't win that game without Brelan's 34-yard TD run. Did you know that Brelan was our all-purpose yards leader in 2011, on a team that had Lance Dunbar cranking out yards? 1628 yards that season, a mark that stands as the #6 North Texas all-time best. So I really don't know what you mean when you say "Potential is all Chancellor has shown." Do you mean he hasn't received the big postseason awards? Do you mean he hasn't carried us to a bowl win? Well, okay, if that's what you mean. But you'd have a hard time naming players on this team who have already shown more than Brelan has shown.

  6. I think that I see a pattern here. Even if you know...keep them guessing. The coaches are doing that with every position. Quarterbacks? All four have been mentioned. (Note: Gill is apparently no longer on the team and Williams now has #6). They could have decided to go with one or they may want to see how each handles game conditions. Running backs? Byrd has experience but Pegram is looking good and Jimmerson will play. Coach Grant did name the top two or three receivers but was noncommittal on several hot prospects. Only Lemon and Y'Barbo were mentioned as locks on an established (except for center) offensive line. No one has even asked about the tight ends. It wouldn't matter if they had. On the defensive side even Whitfield is in jeopardy. Orr and Trice are leaders but no mention of the progress of any others. Methinks that it's fairly well known who will play early but I don't doubt that more will see action this year because our depth appears to be much better. I'm beginning to not want to know. It would be like knowing what's in each Christmas package and spoiling the opening. I like the element of surprise. I may be disappointed that a personal favorite doesn't start or get significant minutes but I'll get over it. It's wide open! Oh, wait a minute, hasn't that been used?

  12. Well, it does say "hit 6" and not "finish with 6". Maybe it's short for "hit 6 as fast as we can first and then see what our end of season goal should be," but that would be a bit long to squeeze all together with a hashtag.

  14. If we win big vs. Idaho, why not keep wearing the throwback jerseys at home for the season.?..perhaps we could catch lightning in a bottle by wearing them. A lot of schools have at least two uniform looks each season. Seems a waste to just wear the throwbacks one time.

I always love the revisionist history on this forum and the over inflation of worth DMac did not "choose brock" over Scotty Young Scotty Young choose Louisiana Tech over north Texas Scotty Young was transferring to LaTech on June 9th of 2012 and the brockster was still a Fighting Artichoke at that time and did not look to north Texas until September of 2012 it is hard to "choose" one player over another when one player is already enrolled at another university 3 months before the other "choice" decided to come to north Texas #Hit4Plus2MoralVictories

  20. Receivers covered in local news article (Friday 8-16): vandals receivers stretch the field new faces should provide spark Dean Hare/Daily News Idaho wide receiver Deon Watson (83) catches a touchdown pass after getting behind cornerback Armond Hawkins (14) during the Vandals’ Saturday scrimmage at the SprinTurf in Moscow. Wherever he has gone, Idaho football coach Paul Petrino has been able to turn average receivers into big-time playmakers, so it's no surprise that the Idaho Vandals have high expectations from their wideouts. "Petrino has a lot of knowledge for us, and personally, he's taken my game to another level," Idaho senior receiver Najee Lovett said. "He notices all the little details when you're running your routes and catching the ball. I know he's helped all of us receivers." Lovett is one of only three receivers returning from last year's squad. In the 2012 campaign, he reeled in 50 receptions for 548 yards and six touchdowns. The other two returners, senior Roman Runner and sophomore Marquan Major, tallied a combined 20 catches. "Najee has to be a playmaker for us," offensive coordinator Kris Cinkovich said. "He's had a few big strikes each of the past few practices. He has to be a fast guy and a deep strike guy for us." Runner drew praise from Petrino for his play during the spring and is still getting a lot of playing time with the first string offense. However, Petrino has decided Runner will also play on the defensive side of the ball as a cornerback, which will likely limit his playing time as a receiver. "We're going to do it, it might just be a nickel package, it might just be during certain things," Petrino said. "When you go punt and punt return with the gunners and the guys holding them up, Roman is the best press guy we have, so we have to get him over there and have him play some corner for us." While the Vandals' other receivers won't play defense, they will need to learn to be versatile as well, as receivers in Petrino's offense often play all three traditional positions - X, Y and Z - which helps the offense create potential mismatches. "All of us receivers are going to be all over the field," Lovett said. "There aren't any set spots we're going to playing. You get a good feel for the offense that way, you get to catch balls everywhere." If Chad Chalich wins the starting quarterback job, he will once again be tossing passes to Deon Watson. The two played in high school together at Coeur d'Alene and seem to have good chemistry. The 6-foot-4 Watson, a redshirt freshman, has done an outstanding job using his size to his advantage this fall and appears to have himself locked in near the top of the depth chart. "Deon has been really good at making plays," Cinkovich said. "He's not fast, not speedy or spectacular, but he always competes for the ball and uses his body very well - plus he has very good hands." In Idaho's first scrimmage, Watson reeled in five catches and scored a pair of touchdowns while appearing to have a solid grasp of the offense. "Deon is figuring out how to use his body and has great hands," Lovett said. "I think he's going to have a good year." Perhaps the most dynamic player on the receiving corps is Dezmon Epps. The 5-foot-10 junior college transfer is easily one of the fastest guys on the field. "I've been clocked at 4.3 (seconds in the 40-yard dash)," Epps said. "I'm off and on with a low 4.3, might run a 4.4 on an off day." Epps has been with the team for only about two weeks, but already he has stepped up as a vocal leader and a playmaker. During Saturday's scrimmage, he caught 10 passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns. "Dezmon leads our catch chart most days after practice, which is an indicator that, A: he makes plays, and B: the quarterbacks trust him," Cinkovich said. "He flies around and is fast. He's a dynamic playmaker." Cinkovich said Epps will serve as solid replacement for departed senior Jahrie Level, who appeared to be Idaho's No. 1 receiver coming out of spring ball before transferring to another school during the summer. The offensive coordinator also mentioned freshmen Jacob Sannon and Rueben Mwehla as players whose speed could net them some playing time this year. For tight ends, Mike LaGrone returns for his senior season with the Vandals. The 6-foot-2 tight end started nine games last year and scored a pair of touchdowns on 16 receptions. While it would appear he sits atop the depth chart, his grip on the spot is tenuous at best. "Mike missed some time again with an injury, but Clayton Hommie is always there, always stepping up, never hurt, always making plays," Cinkovich said. "He's not spectacular because he's not real fast, but he does what he's coached to do. For us, you have to be at practice every day to be a playmaker and a leader. Mike certainly has potential to be a leader, but it's performance that counts." If this year's receivers and tight ends can come together, they should prove to be a much more effective group than the one that consistently struggled last year. "I think this year we're going to be good at stretching the field and making big plays," Lovett said. "We're going to be making guys miss and catching balls down the field. I think this offense is well suited for that." loud and proud alla y'all...loud and proud

  21. Question all you want , but it's directly from someone at practice. Someone who sees who is getting the snaps with what teams. Believe me , I was shocked too. I projected Brock to be our starter. Might just be Mac trying to light a fire under the kid. I hope that's the case

  22. What I worry about is it seems like we are trying to determine which of the QB’s is performing the “least worst” not a case of they’re all playing so well that were in good shape no matter who starts.

  23. That just seems crazy, the way Coach Mac was pumping him up at the radio show last year, and how he was performing in practice. And considering whom Coach Mac chose him over. So what's going on? Is he just not trying? Is he having a hard time grasping Coach C's system? Is he inaccurate? Is he still coming back from his injury? What is the deal?

  25. My wife has a CHL and I can confirm she knows exactly nothing about guns. I dare say that neither do my mother-in-law or sister-in-law who took the class with her. Popping off a few clips and watching some video's and taking a test does not make one a gun expert in any way. I think that people should be able to carry guns, but can confirm that although my wife took the class very seriously, she is no gun carrying expert, and has much less experience shooting a gun than I do, and I do not have a CHL.

  30. Without a doubt this is very upsetting to those who give a damn about personal freedoms, but I think a large part of America has become drugged on self importance and greed and will just let happen to them whatever happens. Fortunately, we are not all part of that crowd and my money says we out-number them 4 to 1. This thread will be moved or removed....too controversial for this crowd but some in D.C. will pay for all that is happening with their hides because even they cannot overcome the patriots that still exists in America today. All they do has to be intertwined with lies, deceit and behind the scenes tomfoolery but like the Good Book says..........."be sure for your sins will find you out." (And no, I am not a Baptist or Methodist preacher--just a simple believer, that's all).

  32. Yeah, I know the Denton events are always bigger than the others elsewhere but that caravan was gonna happen regardless if we were changing conferences or not. I went to the one in Fort Worth right after that and there was around 40 people show up. Nothing special. But the same day our press conference occurred La Tech had a university and city wide blowout that was advertised across their website with a slashing banner as the "Biggest party in La Tech history" and invited everyone and had food and the band and cheerleaders,.... the whole enchilada. Our version of that is this weekend...14 months after the fact.. Hopefully they might have some shirts to give out? Rick

  33. Somebody asked if we had the worst coverage in FBS and the answer has to be yes. The perfect storm of the coach keeping the media out, lack of interest, a lousy beat writer, and close proximity to a major media market that doesn't care about UNT and you get the worst coverage of any team in FBS and I would say worse than most FCS teams. I just went to meangreensports and besides fluff videos about freshmen, there's no practice coverage. The only school I can think of that is in a situation close to ours is Texas State and at least they have some practice coverage on their web site. When I visit my mom in Bozeman, the coverage of Montana State blows UNT's coverage away. I guess I had learned to live with it until I saw all the Vandal updates and hear my friends talk about their school's camp. Like I said, it's more than just one cause but the effect for us fans blows.

  36. Hey...agree...except that this was how long ago? And, unfortunately for all of us...long before the new branding and licensing program was put into place by UNT. Just "doing it" now is not quite that realistic. It may be an "excuse" for you and whoever would go out and do these "underground" so to speak, but HIGHLY doubtful these could be produced today under proper "authority" and OK, nor could they be sold through any area of UNT...like the Apogee store for instance. Don't know if screen printers check this sort of thing or not, but lots here feel it would be easy to get done in a clandestine sort of way...hope they do...I am a buyer if they do.

  42. There are some politicians that straight up want to take guns away from people. Sen. Dianne Feinstein is one of those people that prefers Americans to be disarmed. In 1995 she told 60 Minutes: "If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States, for an outright ban, picking up (every gun) ... Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in. I would have done it..."
