  1. I think we legitimately have the worst fanbase in the FBS. Jesus Christ. I'm retiring for the day from here or I may lose more brain cells.

  2. We're complaining about these uniforms??

  3. They are throwback, I don't give a rats behind what they look like as long as we get a win. I don't watch the games to see the uniforms. This is football people, not some kind of designer competition. Besides, I bet you will be liking them after we BEAT Idaho. At least they don't look as bad as Marylands. ]

  4. This athletic department has a lot of nerve using two different shades of green on these throwbacks. I mean why do anything if your going to upset these so-called fans on GMG.com. I like the nice crisp clean jersey. The helmet looks kick a$$ as well. Thank you to our athletic department for doing this and I APPRECIATE your efforts and more importantly lets ensure these uniforms retire undefeated!

  5. I think they were pretty clear from the "get go" that this would be a mix of old uniforms. Love it.

  6. If Dajon starts at QB (or even gets significant playing time), I officially have hope for the future.

  7. Lost in all the gnashing of teeth over the QB position is the positive performance of the defense. I sure hope this signals a return of defense to its status of the past. One thing we could always count on was NT playing good defense and knocking somebody's head off. I hope and pray we are getting back to that level.

  8. Straight from McCarney's mouth just now: "Dajon Williams is now in the mix for starting QB and we do not expect to redshirt him."

  9. WOW! Nice banner ad. Certainly hope it helps to generate a good deal of business from the GMG.Com group. Helping fellow UNT grads is always a great thing and "paying it forward" for the folks who help support UNT is something we should all consider. This young man just recently graduated after a great career as a walk-on deep snapper and later as a scholarship player having earned that scholarship with his play and his work on and off the practice field and during game situations. In addition and as Harry noted, he is already a member of the Mean Green Club, the UNT letterman's Association and the UNT Alumni Association. One can only imagine the support UNT could generate if all its Lettermen and Alums were this supportive of their university. "Team player then...team player now" is a perfect way to describe Troy, but I would also add that he is a "LEADER" and a leader by example for his UNIVERSITY! Troy is certainly leading by example. Let's help Troy as he looks to find ways to help the Mean Green!

  10. Coolness. Now RV......Get "North Texas" off the helmets on our regulars.

  11. Coach speak is kind of like the Oracle speak from the Matrix. They tell you what you need to hear, which isn't necessarily the truth. Just sayin'.

  12. North Texas alums doing business with North Texas alums. How novel is that? We can't let the Aggies have a corner of the market completely with that concept. GMG!

  13. ESPN Insider (From Last Year) Williams is a very efficient passer with enough running skills to keep defenses honest; displays the ability to move the ball primarily down the field with his arm, demonstrating the accuracy needed to get the ball to receivers on time and in stride. Has the size with enough athleticism for the quarterback position at the major level of competition. His frame appears capable of supporting additional bulk over time. We see a prospect who sets up quickly with eyes down field and ready to throw; carriers the ball a little low prior to delivery but throws with good balance and weight distribution, stepping up and into his throws. Gets the ball out of his hand quickly with a compact, ¾ delivery motion, demonstrating the arm strength and touch needed to complete the medium/long throws over the top; flashes the arm strength needed to put the ball in tight spots, on time and in stride. Displays the athleticism needed to keep the ball alive and not panic under pressure; is able to scramble, locate secondary receivers on the move and shorten his delivery motion to complete passes while under duress. This guy is a tough competitor capable of running the zone read play and gaining good yardage off the edge; although lacking a burst or second gear, his lateral quickness and smooth playing speed allows him to rip off huge chunks of yardage. We feel Williams has BCS throwing skills which may require some time and perhaps a red shirt year to develop prior to competing for starting time at the next level of play.

  14. technically, neither is a neon worm. the worm was white on a neon helmet.

  15. I just don't see why they couldn't have matched the flying worm with the uniform. I would have been perfectly happy with a dark green worm

  16. Because he knows what we don't, it's just a matter of time before people recognize "North Texas" based off of the helmets. It's only been 12 years. Give it another 10 and maybe people as far away as Plano and Keller will know who we are.

  18. I don't see why anyone is taking it as anything other than a positive that Mac and Chico are giving more scrutiny to the QB position. Last year, I brought my brother-in-law, visiting from Boise, to the South Alabama game. Being from Boise, he seems to have seen a lot of college football, and said something like, "everything looks good, except for the passing game, which isn't quite up to Division 1 standards". Sure I want continued success in the running game, but hey, let's see things for what they are: in need of substantial improvement. And I have no problem with any of the 4 quarterbacks being the starter, as long as they earn it in practice and in games. And is anyone seeing the possibility of an improved secondary providing more insight in the passing game during practices and scrimmages? Of course, one of the two picks Saturday was from Hilbert Jackson, but the other one, I understand, was from James Jones, a highly touted transfer. If so, this can be a good thing.

  20. You NEVER insert someone else's colors into your own alma mater's color just for the same of selling an extra t shirt or two. Our colors are green and white, not Burnt-Orange or..... Oh, you meant my current broken record........ Never mind. Rick

  25. Just wondering… am I the only one a little worried that the ones picking our QB are the same ones who passed (if we are to believe) on a transfer QB that looks to be starting at LT? Just trying to figure the “talent” they are using to make these choices.

  34. I'm not sure what the team will wear during pre-game warmups, but I hope it's the standard unis/helmets that we dislike so much. However, when the team takes the field for the opening kickoff, they will be wearing the new throwbacks with the Flying Worm helmet and the whole stadium crowd erupts into endless, loud cheering and sheer chaos. Enough to shake the streets of Denia!

  37. I never liked the idea of designing these awesome throwbacks only to wear them once. If everyone loves them why not keep them around and at least wear them for homecoming every year?

  38. There is going to be a factor that will play to our advantage, regardless of where your players are from, or how your coaches attempt to prepare. August in Denton. Our players are in it everyday. It's misery. I saw it as a player. There is no way to prepare for the drain of triple digits + humidity. Heaters in the dome are uncomfortable but not brutal. It suck to watch the game in, much less play. I would like to add something funny. I played Boise State three times. Twice up there, once in Denton. I will never forget how cold it was walking out of their locker room with the heat blasting into the cold. It sucked really bad for pregame, pre kick off, and after the half. The second time I played there was nice. We were 1-2 during my tenure against them. FYI, Idaho fans seem to be a class act. Cheers.

  39. Right now, the down front seems tough. LBs are JC transfers and appear to be coming along. Corners-safeties are a question mark. Offense line needs to improve by game day. We have a few banged up, but still, a concern. RBs have good power and speed, but could get help with an improved OL. Three battling for QB. Senior, Junior (JC transfer) and RSF. All three are capable FBS kids. Receivers -- adequate with two looking very good. TEs --- solid. Kicking? Well, we have the frosh kid who made National TV news last fall (Good Morning America, etc) with his 67 yarder. (see link below) He will punt, KO and of course, FG. In scrim one, he was a bit nervous --- good outside 40; so-so in the 20-40, and not 100% on the PATs. He needs to get accuracy % waaaaay up. You run well it sounds. Right now, we all feel a helleva lot better than what the product looked like last November. Huge strides in conditioning and pride. Petrino has them believing, but he is tough love and not like Akey, who was more animated, cheerleader, sis-boom-baa. Petrino is definitely a whole new show. Hope we arrive and are ready to test the MeanGreen. Here's our frosh FG kicker, kicking his 67 yarder last fall for Central Valley H.S. out of Spokane, Washington: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgIKTJA_9kM

  44. My wife absolutely loves the place. Almost as much as I love Apogee...well, maybe not that much, but she has that place as number 1 on her Denton beer parlor list. Super friendly, great atmosphere, great beers and ales...well, and mixed drinks as well I am told, but neither my wife nor I get anything except beer and/or ale. Drag her back down and make her go in..well, promise her whatever she wants as you probably should not force her to do something good for her if she refuses, but if she goes...she will go back and you both will be very happy.
