You're right Rick. I will never attend another NT game because practice is closed.6 points

So, tell me again who is considered the Harvard of the southwest? Welcome aboard big Chris! Multiple offers...I like it... while he is pulling around to lead block for a screen pass, he's calculating how much force is being applied to truck some poor safety...springing the jimmy show for yet another 85 yard td catch and run!5 points

X2. What IS the point here? UT is going to have a lot of interest in their practices. UNT may have 20-30 people tops show up to watch a practice... no matter when it is, and as pointed out by UNTfan23 the second time it 'went over his head', anyone who DOES show up to a UNT practice probably already has season tickets because they already care. Win some games and maybe interest will pique. In the meantime, I wont lose a wink of sleep because practice is not open to the public.4 points

If I'm missing what you're saying, then by all means enlighten the rest of the Mean Green Nation as I am sure others are wondering what the frack you're really talking about.4 points

Opening practice ain't gonna solve any attendance issues. Odds are quite likely that vast majority of people that might attend will already be season ticket holders.4 points

Not a bad writeup. I think the Mean Green Writeup is pretty spot on... the only update is that Abbe is playing from day one...just not on scholly anymore for his senior year. Suspension is over, and thank god. He's physically the most complete DT that we've got. The other guys at DT are somewhat undersized or have far less experienced. This is the most "wait and see" season that we have had since I've been a fan(my memory goes back to yesterday... tailgating takes its toll on the memory). I have been beaten down by the last 8 years or so so badly that I can't really muster up any kind of real optimism. But, yet, I have more faith in Mac than I have at any point since we lost to memphis in New Orleans. I'm so conflicted. The elements that I feel we are missing from our team now that we had back then are all on the d-line. If those guys can hold up and make some plays this season... I really do think we can do well... Contrary to what everybody says about our offense, I LOVE the mean green pounding the ball with the Oline. I love controlling the clock and imposing our will on an opposing defense. That to me is the very cliche "BIG BOY FOOTBALL", and I love that cliche if it describes my team. It reduces the need to rely on Thompson regularly. If Thompson is having an "on" day, ride him. I went back and watched that Kansas State game again(cause I still had that game on DVR), and that first half, Thompson was on. He filled in the gaps perfectly in that first half between all those positive gain plays from the running game. K-state was sitting back in a defensive shell, but Thompson was accurate and the receivers were all making plays. Unfortunately, 2 of those biggest guys in that game are now gone...Power and Delgado. The Oline and running backs did an amazing job in this game and for a lot of the season. Controlling the clock and the ball also keeps these fast paced offenses off the field and helps disrupt their rhythem. Not always, but it helps. That's how we hung with K-state, that's how we hung with Houston for a half 2 years ago... Its how we CAN be successful. The only parts that are changing out for our offense(non receivers and tight ends) are center and brown is replaced by pegram. I can't wait to see first hand and on TV this season. I love football season. We only have 27 days... or so. It is almost here. I don't want to hear any "news" other than new recruit commits. No news will be great news through fall camp. Whatever happens with the depth charts will happen. People step up, or they fall behind. I just don't want to read or hear the "i" word. That's it. This edition of the mean green has to be the biggest unknown I can remember with lots of returning players in key positions, several transfers, and a brand new league. Go Mean Green!4 points

http://nonpower5conference.com/?p=384 A little article I wrote. Thought I'd share it, and yes I did actually rank NT ahead of UTSA although there really isn't much separation between 3rd and 7th imo. 3-7 should be battling for and constantly changing position through out the season if you ask me. Tulsa and Rice will separate themselves from the pack and the rest of us will be playing for 3rd place. Thoughts or comments? Good or bad.3 points

None of this crap matters. November 23, 2013 will look something like this: Then hopefully the 'rivalry' talk will die down.3 points

You seemed to have missed my annual "We're missing another oportunity" bitch session last year in which someone..hell it might have been you for all I know...responded with a "The big schools don't do it so why should we?"....and they would throw out examples like ZeroU, tU etc. But you indirectly brought up a valid point. tU doesn't have attendance issues, yet they still value the chance to reach out even further. And now this. Someone down there realizes that even though their program truly is a "Self Promoter" it never hurts to keep promoting and selling to grow their fan base. But here at NT, we don't. We have all the fans we can handle..... Rick3 points

Is this a big deal? Are there 500 people getting blown off by the AD, or is this a vocal army of 10?3 points

Coaches have a lot to do with it and the facilities, but I also think CUSA affiliation is starting to help in recruiting as well. It is a confluence of factors coming together and if we add a strong winning season this year, the sky is the limit for the future. As many know, it is now mainly up to winning to start unveiling our huge potential. As for academics, I think slowly UNT is starting to change its reputation, which I think is apparent with how some of these new recruits think highly of UNT as an academic institution. Mind these are recruits with top Ivy-league offers. We'll benefit not only from good athletes but also from smart and intelligent student athletes as great ambassadors. I like the impetus the 2014 recruiting class is garnering for the future. Let's keep doing our part and get other people excited about UNT!3 points

This is why it is so important that we win NOW!!! We've got a very small window in which to take advantage of all of the excitement generated by Apogee, Coach Mac, etc. On a much smaller scale, this is similar to the situation that aTm was in last year. Their future depended on how well they showed to be competitive in the SEC. Their long term future depended on which cycle they ended up establishing, success->good recruiting->success or failure->diminished recruiting->failure. Now, aTm probably wasn't going to be a Vanderbilt, but they needed the success to not be an Ole Miss We have one of the rare opportunities that come along to allow one of the have-not's to break out of the failure cycle an we can't afford to blow it. Win NOW, baby!!3 points

Come on guys... we all know open practice and providing details about your team = a happier and potentially bigger fan base. Speaking from experience look how Bill Snyder grew the Kansas State fan base. (for those who don't get the sarcasm during K-State practice roads and the airspace around the practice facility are closed and take a peek at a Bill Snyder press conference before a game)3 points

I don't see the pont of this pissing contest. Both of your o-lines and d-lines are tiny. We overpowered and manhandled UNT's line in both 2011 and 2012. We will easily overpower UTSA too. Here is our starting o-line and d-line as a comparison. (This is as of August 3rd, our first practice) LT - Harper 6'6 300 LG - Cloud 6'4 314 C - Redman 6'1 285 RG - Forsch 6'3 307 RT - Oragwu 6'3 324 Notice how our center is the only one under 6'3 and less than 300? (We run a 3-4 again) DT - Braswell 6'5 268 DT - Mbu 6'2 312 DT - Mark 6'3 288 Rush LB/Stand up DE - Eiland 6'2 236 Notice how our d-linemen are all 260+ save for Eiland for had to cut down in order to be a stand up end. It's a shame how UNT especially is having d-line troubles when their HC is supposedly a d-line guru.3 points

I hope to the football gods we get Trice on our staff if he doesn't get a shot in the nfl. He sells the hell out of our school with a passion. Stand out kid.3 points

He will just go from edge of the hot seat to hot seat. That said he needs to win, we need him to win, the University needs him to win. Hell we need him to dominate the CUSA.3 points

Johnny needs to take responsibility, but is there not any legal repercussions on the autograph broker's end? Are they allowed to get away with luring student-athletes into breaking these NCAA rules because it's business profit for them?3 points

Texas aTm will suspend him for the first two weeks (Rice, Sam Houston) and the NCAA will accept their punishment as sufficient.3 points

As most of you already know, I wasn't much into spectating in my younger years. I liked sports starting in my mid teens, I just always preferred playing to watching for a very long time. And from the end of graduate school until now, I've moved around a lot and had some very weird things go on so that I haven't been to a game since the first season after grad school, though I've caught as many as possible on TV, radio, etc. But when it was feasible, I made it to as many games as possible and we almost always won! So I've had some damn good timing. Unless I'm forgetting one, I believe these are the only losses I've ever seen in person: 10/18/97 Boise State 9/2/99 UNLV 11/13/99 @TCU 11/4/2000 Idaho 9/22/01 Texas Tech (Irving) 9/17/05 Tulsa I had to search to check the dates but I'm pretty sure these are the only ones. So from the time when I caught the spirit bug to when I started moving around, every other game was either a win or one I had to miss. So if my recollection is accurate, our record for games I've been to is 21-6. I know, 27 games isn't nearly enough to be a "superfan" or whatever, but most who were around at the time will tell you I have a tendency to overextend myself and not leave much room for fun at times. For instance, in 2002 I was working 4 jobs and missed the USF loss because I was sick, probably from not sleeping pretty much at all. My point in posting this is that I have thought about it a few times during the "doom and gloom" threads and you know what? When people tell you "our football team always loses, it sucks to go to the games even if you like football, etc.", don't listen to them. You may just end up having really good timing! The only Bowl game I was able to travel for was Cincy! So this is really more for the "lurkers" than the regular posters. Oh, and especially if you don't have the money for travel - that means you probably don't have tons of cash for entertainment as well, so if you're a student, yay! It's already included in your fees. If not, hey, tickets are pretty cheap! And keep in mind that even in down seasons, with 5 or 6 games at home we usually still win about half of them (not including the Dodge years - now, that's just painful). And in good seasons, we usually win all but 1 or 2 at home! So even if you just go to home games, even if you only go to a few you're likely to come away with memories of a good chunk of them being W's. (Again, not counting 2006-2010. I know it's recent so it seems more relevant, but since then we've won over half of the home games so things are getting back to where we were before all of that mess.) Just trying to lighten the mood a bit, and regardless of the season record, unless you watched Dodge-ball at UNT you've probably seen a decent share of wins in Denton. Also, if your luck is anything like mine, go to the games with people from the Pre-Law program or Moot Court team. My W/L record of games seen with them is 13-1 (including the Bowl win) and without them is 8-5. Might be some good vibes coming from one of the winning-est Moot Court teams in the nation!2 points

Great comparison. Obviously our situation is on a smaller scale than A&M, but if we have a good year our recruiting will continue to blow up. This little recruiting hot streak we're on should show us that we have great potential, seeing that we're only beginning to tap it.2 points

Fine. Then have a practice non-watching party. Organize just outside of the "illegal" watching area and have yourself a party. Force the issue.2 points

Absolutely. Those would be two solid guys who could project to multiple positions on the offensive line. Don't forget about Avery Fortenberry, Aaron Fortenberry's little brother. Avery just graduated high school but iirc he was given a grayshirt offer, which means he might be part of this class at offensive line as well.2 points

That's great for LATech. Don't take this as a dare FFR, but I highly doubt you're going anywhere. Anyone who would care to attend UNT practices in the football team's current state are also not going anywhere. And bolded-red above, I think, is a straw-man. Again, anyone who would attend a UNT football practice won't go anywhere when UNT goes 5-7, or *gulp* 2-10. They're already fans. And not the kind that will dust their hands and walk away when the going gets tough... or they would already be gone, don't you think?2 points

That Dennis Dodd article is one of the most slanted pieces of media drivel I've read in a while. Who is that clown? I have no idea what to think of Manziel after this offseason, but this latest claim makes me think he's not just fighting his own immaturity. This claim screams jealous boosters from UT/Bama/etc trying to do anything to take down Tamu a peg. Maybe I'm wrong, but the timing of this one as well as it's ability to be proven is highly questionable.2 points

Since we had thread discussing some random Baylor fan's lack of knowledge I thought I just start one describing my experience wearing Mean Green gear while in the Chicago area this weekend. I sit at O'Hare waiting for our return flight with a bit Mean Green grin on my face. I had no less than six people come up to me in Chicago and in Indiana ( went there for a family function this weekend) and want to talk Mean Green. Two grads and three folks who knew of Coach Mac and wanted to talk a bit of UNT football. Then there was the guy who saw the shirt and thought "North Texas" was out near El Paso! Hey, can't win 'em all. I can tell you that it NEVER fails...whether in the US somewhere or as recently as in Costa Rica, when I wear my Mean Green Gear (which is pretty darn often on my trips) I always have people come up and want to talk UNT...no, not always athletics, but UNT. Really makes me proud of being a member of the Mean Green Nation. BTW ... One guy was right across the street from DePaul University in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago (yes, I was in that area going to The Wieners Circle Hot Dogs...if you know about this place, you know...if not goggle it you will laugh your rear off...unless folks having some fun...yes fun...with "racial" things and salty language...the dogs are great...the routine is unique to say the least). The guy was doing grad work at DePaul after undergrad at UNT. Wonder if I had been wearing Baylor stuff if anyone would have cared? Doubtful!2 points

This is not a joke. I met a guy in Mexico who use to live in Denton. (I can only assume as an illegal but he didn't say that) He saw my t-shirt and came over to talk. He was cool and I couldn't stop laughing. He said he missed the girls. I laughed even harder after that. He said he lived off Bonnie Brae. (Cement City?) He said he moved back to be with his family and be a waiter. I was drinking and bought him a drink. Good times.2 points
