  1. Baylor? That's in Waco right...that place where you go pee between Dallas and Austin.

  3. Since we had thread discussing some random Baylor fan's lack of knowledge I thought I just start one describing my experience wearing Mean Green gear while in the Chicago area this weekend. I sit at O'Hare waiting for our return flight with a bit Mean Green grin on my face. I had no less than six people come up to me in Chicago and in Indiana ( went there for a family function this weekend) and want to talk Mean Green. Two grads and three folks who knew of Coach Mac and wanted to talk a bit of UNT football. Then there was the guy who saw the shirt and thought "North Texas" was out near El Paso! Hey, can't win 'em all. I can tell you that it NEVER fails...whether in the US somewhere or as recently as in Costa Rica, when I wear my Mean Green Gear (which is pretty darn often on my trips) I always have people come up and want to talk UNT...no, not always athletics, but UNT. Really makes me proud of being a member of the Mean Green Nation. BTW ... One guy was right across the street from DePaul University in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago (yes, I was in that area going to The Wieners Circle Hot Dogs...if you know about this place, you know...if not goggle it you will laugh your rear off...unless folks having some fun...yes fun...with "racial" things and salty language...the dogs are great...the routine is unique to say the least). The guy was doing grad work at DePaul after undergrad at UNT. Wonder if I had been wearing Baylor stuff if anyone would have cared? Doubtful!

  5. Connectivity and signal strength? Blah. The only reason you should need your device at a game is if you want to snap a picture. Maybe to let friends know where you're sitting, unless you're a blogger or journalist. Other than that...concerts, meetings, classes, work, football games...why do you need to Facebook and Twitter every second? "I was the first to post it online." Great. You're missing half of your life so you can let your friends know something that everyone else will say in 8 seconds anyway. Maybe if you were living that other half of your life instead of playing around on your phone, you'd experience more interesting things and not be another phone clone. News flash: most of what you're checking out is just as uninteresting as what you're posting. So you're missing out on your life for the opportunity to be constantly connected to basically NOTHING. I'm not opposed to social networking and technological advancement, but if it's a priority over experiencing what's really happening, your individual experiences in life will be greatly diminished.

  6. I gotta say a word about Kokjohn Long Snapping lessons. Yesterday afternoon my F5 took a long snapping lesson from Troy Kokjohn and we had a blast. Troy and his dad Kevin are the consummate professionals. They are extremely accommodating and the lessons are very affordable. They video tape you before and after each part of the progression, go over them with you and then send those video's to you for future reference. Most interesting to me was the fact that since Troy has seen it all he tells you different aspects of the skill learned only through battle that you would never think of. This was very cool to see and hear about. We had a great time and recommend Troy to anyone interested in learning one of the most interesting and challenging parts of the game from the best. Troy's phone number is:972-824-3001. His email is: troy.m.kokjohn@gmail.com And his website is: LongSnapperLessons.com Rick

  9. If we don't run a play action pass on the first offensive play from scrimmage against Idaho, I may just retreat to the bar in the club level and not check back in until halftime. Set the F'n tone for the season.

  10. Don't run to the same spot even after a long gain, unless it's infrequently enough for noone to expect it. Or, get them to expect it, then play action pass.

  11. Just be sure whoever goes to the Square that you skip the antique place or whatever it's called that's on the East side. They will literally scream at you for "soliciting" and threaten to call the cops. I made it a point to tell them it was a gift from UNT and they continued yelling. I also made it a point to spread the word that they were not only not UNT friendly but also complete a-holes. If somebody does try again and gets the same results be sure to let others know again. If you don't want a poster that's fine but if you're going to act all crazy any time anybody from UNT comes in, then maybe we should make sure everybody connected to UNT knows to avoid your rathole since you're obviously too good for the University that pretty much made the whole town what it is.

  13. My folks sent my brother and I money for expenses, but we had to pay tuition. I think we appreciated it more, though I am not gonna say I didn't have a semester or two where I goofed off a lot (girlfriends will do that to you!). I guess that comes with the territory of college life, even if it is your money on the line. I do think at the end of the day I appreciated college more because I paid for it though.

  15. I'm not the one that feels like my school is too good to start a rivalry with certain Texas schools, so I don't even see what your point is with this. Besides UTEP fans are actually receptive to a rivalry with us...same UT system, colors, hand sign and similar demographics. You can't say the same for you and Rice.

  16. Yeah, I agree that academics and baseball teams are perfect determinants of football rivalries.

  17. While this is a sad sight to see... imagine watching this and there's no Apogee across the street. I'm negative about a lot of things regarding our FB situation and hate the series of events (and people) that have hampered our progress over the years, but I am so grateful to not be watching this with our FB suffering the same fate as UTA. That would make watching this almost unbearable.

  19. Your now, some of these replies remind me of a certain Tom Cruise movie line...You want the truth...you can't stand the truth! Some of you folks would not know the truth ...or believe anything that is not of a negative nature...if hit hit you square in the nose. Who ever the FOOL was that gave me -1for letting folks know the story is so typical of the many so-called UNT fans these days..always looking for the negative. Too bad...sad and generally negative people always want something to be negative for some reason and it always seems to be the same folks. Every notice that? The info I posted is EXACTLY how it happened. Believe it...don't believe it, your call...it's just the facts. Heck, why should that matter to the "usual suspects"? Ha!

  20. thought comes to me due to the ouster of cooper from the eagles due to his racist comment...he gets relieved from his duties, not realeased, for the time being...plenty of calls from the media for his permanent departure from the team... roddy white and victor cruz advocate violence/death due to the outcome of a jury trial...yet...they aren't relieved from the team to seek counseling or anything of the sort... what's the difference? is saying something racist really worse than advocating physical violence? if so...that's shocking to me...racism is just words...violence can cause actual harm... i really am confused about this and don't see why it's such a big deal that cooper used racist wording...i believe that violent calls are much worse and dangerous than saying sometihng racist... sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt...isn't that what we are taught growing up? it's just a word...not a call for violence like white and cruz said... disclaimer: i'm a white guy...

  24. He's not the only one. It's just that there's little substantive conversion to comment on. There's a lot of bickering back and forth about things that can't be proven yet. Mildly entertaining though. Looking forward to making this game.

  25. It's hilarious that you would take a shot at our fanbase when our attendance trumps yours. Haha.

  26. A very serious case of the high-lighted in bold statement of yours could have been made toward TCU their last 25 years in the SWC. In fact, many of your older alums had all but given it all up. The day the SWC imploded was a very, very sad day in Fort Worth because the Big 12 was basically telling TCU...."why don't yall go join about 5 conferences in less than 10 years and we might consider you then. So I guess as far as North Texas is concerned all the things you seem to want to happen to our athletic program are just not going to happen at all. 36,000 plus students (which will become over 40K before you can say "rivet") and over 200,000 UNT alums in DFW are going to be as patient about all this as I presume TCU was during their long SWC journey of one losing decade after another. You should have really seen all those empty seats at ACS when UT, TAMU, TTech and Baylor weren't bringing their traveling fans to FW to help TCU pad what would otherwise be pretty pathetic attendance numbers for a Big Time SWC school. Why is this all so important to you anyhow to come over here so much and say (basically) the same ol' things? GMG!

  28. Plenty of your fans read our site, even quoted one of the posters and started a thread about it actually. Are they "stalkers" too or just me ?
    1 point
  29. Oh look on top of not knowing how to spell you also don't know what the definition of stalking is. I'm having discussions with your fanbase and getting plenty of replies...that's not stalking.

BTW, you have already accomplished the seemingly impossible...creating a thread where even the usual suspects have to be positive, happy and excited about something Mean Green. Keep this up and you will be a Mean Green Hall of Famer in no time at all. :-) Super excited to have you on board. Welcome to the Mean Green Nation!

  34. Did you watch the South Alabama game last season? They were a recent start-up and FBS transitional and they put up a good fight against you. UTSA beat them last season in Mobile btw. I've said I give NT the slight edge for our game bc it's at Apogee so I'm not saying you guys are below us...I just don't agree with ridiculous statements (the post above me for example) some of your fans make. Despite the age difference I don't think the gap between the two teams is that big.

  37. I don't have a problem with him getting the MUTS game THAT WRONG because he's obviously got other issues and he doesn't represent us in an official capacity. .What I have a problem with is that there were more like around 3-4,000 there at that game but it was reported AND repeated to be 17,000 by officials......like SMU does. Then.....our officials added that to the overall attendance average and went around telling media and anyone who would listen that we set some kind of fantasy attendance record? Rick

  38. The fun part about all of this, is reading all of those facebook posts. The anti-stadium posts have 20+ likes yet the pro-athletics posts only have 3-5 likes. If the entire student body would have voted, Apogee wouldn't have been built. You have 36000 students near one of the biggest cities in the country yet you have never sold out a 30,000 seat stadium. Not everybody is meant to be a major sports school.

  39. In a nutshell. This is the kind of thing that happens when the spotlight of great fame (Heisman trophy) gets directed at someone who is basically just starting their career instead of winding it up....and is therefore much more mature. To me, this is the Orson-Welles-Citizen-Kane syndrome. Welles won fame at age 25 or 26 for Citizen Kane. Where do you go from there? Johnny M. is facing the same situation.

  40. Awh the shell game of the NFL. Reel them in before they complete their education. Pass out the big bucks that their agents will lap up like hungry wolves. Convince them about " the speed of the game" the limelight that has shined upon them. Don't dare let them know how much the billionaire owners are making out of their toil, and keep those mindless sheep coming who shell out $70 . to just park and pay homage to the thieves that are the owners of NFL franchises. Jerry's World is a shrine to a scoundrel who cares absolutely nothing about anyone other than himself. To those who have such blind loyalty to the " home" NFL team, ask yourself how quickly the franchise would move( Dallas Texans, I.e. KC Chiefs) if the grass looked greener elsewhere. Look at the UFL, WFL,etc. and tell me players have loyalty to any city or team. It's big business and the sheep who follow it might as well be rooting for GM to pay a dividend. To hell with the NFL and all it represents--modern slavery and elitism at it's finest. Only the NBA is worse. I pity the young men who throw themselves to these jackals at such an early age.

  42. Are you not reading what your fans are saying? You act like I'm coming on here to trash NT without reason when I'm actually responding to your fanbase's elitist attitude. If you want to be optimistic about your future that's fine, but like yall tell us you have to earn that respect. Maybe in 5 years you will be a superior program than UTSA's but as of today you aren't...and you have no reason to look down or chalk up automatic Ws against any team.

  43. Just FYI....Coach Hubbard WAS NOT FIRED! If you think so, you are simply mistaken. This move was strictly a family move...less responsibilities than he had as a head coach, still in coaching as he wanted and a bunch...Bunch...more time for a young family AND a really nice raise. He fully intended to return to Oklahoma before this offer came up. It was indeed a family decision...no one was fired! Get it? Good. Good luck Coach Hubbard and thanks for what you did for the Mean Green!

  44. This is where I think McCarney is finally making some progress with the Texas HS Coaches. Its an uphill battle here, for sure, but he is making progress. His first few recruiting classes weren't good, but I think its just due to all the losing under Dodge. It takes time to build trust with these high school coaches, but Mac is a quality guy and I know that is starting to pay dividends with recruiting. It will all come down to wins and losses, as it should, but McCarney is just such a breath of fresh air as an ambassador of this university. I really want him to win here and be our head coach until he is ready to retire. We could use that kind of stability around here.
    1 point
  45. Aren't you the same person that criticizes our recruiting calling it pathetic or some other term because other teams are picking up commits? You can't have it both ways? It would be nice to just once hear you applaud our coaches recruiting efforts and not complain about everything.
    1 point
  46. I agree GrayEagle. Some posters gripe about the amount of stars our recruits receive but then gripe when the same level recruit signs elsewhere. It is pretty funny when you stop and think about it. Some folks are never happy.
    1 point
  47. There is no winning with this group. Half are clamoring because we have no commits and the other half are saying it's too early for commits because they might be gone by signing date. Admittedly, losing the receiver from Louisiana that signed with TCU last year may have hurt a little more than the linebacker from Sherman who committed late to Texas Tech but they both hurt. It's just that we lose far fewer commitments than we gain in last minute acceptances. When is there a safe time?
