  1. I will be working with recruiting and social media specific to the football program. There are some minor inaccuracies from the article that was linked in your blog, so the attachment should clear things up. Always interested in having a dialogue about the Mean Green, so we'll be reading you here, on Twitter, and Facebook. Let's get excited about UNT football and fill "the nest" against the Vandals! 2. I gotta say a word about Kokjohn Long Snapping lessons. Yesterday afternoon my F5 took a long snapping lesson from Troy Kokjohn and we had a blast. Troy and his dad Kevin are the consummate professionals. They are extremely accommodating and the lessons are very affordable. They video tape you before and after each part of the progression, go over them with you and then send those video's to you for future reference. Most interesting to me was the fact that since Troy has seen it all he tells you different aspects of the skill learned only through battle that you would never think of. This was very cool to see and hear about. We had a great time and recommend Troy to anyone interested in learning one of the most interesting and challenging parts of the game from the best. Troy's phone number is:972-824-3001. His email is: troy.m.kokjohn@gmail.com And his website is: LongSnapperLessons.com Rick

  3. The first time I went on their message board was last week and one of the first posts was "I can't wait to beat that peice of **** school." I had no ill will towards KFCU until then. It just blows my mind they consider the posters here arrogant or elitists. You would be hard pressed to find a more apathetic message board for an FBS school. Sorry that we expect to beat a team that is in it's infancy as an FBS program, what lofty freakin expectations.

  4. Thank you. Like many NCAA Bylaws, there are variables but, rest assured, the social and digital media footprint of UNT Football will increase dramatically in the next few weeks.

  5. Shannon just had himself a very nice year in the Mexican league. He's playing for OSTIONEROS DE GUAYMAS. Guaymas finished 2nd in the regular season with a 23-9 record. I believe they lost in the 1st round of the playoffs Shorter played over 36 minutes a game while averaging 22.7ppg 6.4rbs & 5.3 assist Played season before in Argentina

  6. Wow...I'm surprised and excited that NT was able to hire someone in a "recruiting and social media roll" this is a huge step.

  7. The question about rivalries will soon be answered. The small glimmer of hate will soon grow larger. A couple of other schools have some potential. Until someone starts caring, it does not really matter. This is great.

  10. Just bookmark that thread for later... The issue is perception. UNT fans think they are giving for the most part an honest assessment of an opposing team that played in the WAC and against several non FBS schools last year. UTSA fans seeing themselves as a football program that had many wins last year and is going into the CUSA and the sky is the limit. So now you have one fanbase who thinks the other is delusional and the other fanbase who thinks the first fan base are a bunch of dicks that just want to downgrade their school

  13. Had to post on this again. This is just such a huge step for NT. Programs like Alabama seriously have departments of 20+ people to handle recruiting/social media.

  14. Well whatever the reason, for what seems to be a step up in caliber of player who've recently committed, lets keep 'em coming. It's time for North Texas to be known for its football, along with its other great sports and academic programs. Go Mean Green !

  15. .. Disagree... I'm class of 66 and 75.... If there is a disconnected group it may come from the 80's when we dropped into a hole sportswise... The old MVC days were fun and in basketball the gym was full and we had less than 15,000 students much of the time. Remember those where the days of Joe Greene and later Hayden Fry. Also in that era there wasn't as much to do to take up time.... no video games... 100 channel TV etc. .few games on TV to watch instead etc... You don't get it.

  20. Time out. You guys realize that TCU, Houston, and SMU have been talking to us like this for years and Mean Green fans have responded with bitter words and the "just you wait until we grow up!" mentality. Now UTSA comes in the picture and UNT fans feel like there is finally a fellow Texas school that is inferior or doesn't belong in the same conference so people make it known. UTSA fans are undoubtedly going to be upset with UNT fans for the same reasons that many on this board despise the likes of CougarKing and FroggyStyle. There's nothing wrong or bad about it. I think it will be great for UNT to have a strong opinion against another Texas school that we actually play on a regular basis and UTSA seems to be filling that void much quicker and more naturally than UTEP or Rice so let's roll with it. But don't be surprised when they talk trash back at UNT. Just send them some chicken wings and let them cry themselves to sleep.

  22. That's my point. It's much easier to project guys once you've seen them strap on their helmets for the Green. Even if just for a game like Brooks. Projecting players in high school, especially after their junior year like our current commits, is extremely difficult. All star ratings mean is that some people are judging their potential athletically. If there is a consensus that a kid has good skills on the field by multiple recruiting outlets then the kid probably has something that college coaches can work with. Whether they end up as head cases or have no work ethic is not indicated by stars. Of course stars don't determine how successful a player will be, they just give a reference point as to how talented he is in high school compared to current and future recruits.

  23. Thanks for the update NT03....where do you find the time to keep up with all you do? Glad to have you doing this otherwise many, including me, would miss this great stuff. Congrats to Shannon on a great season. Do the Zetas or the Siencola (sp?) guys own that team?

  24. Actually, in French, potatoes are called "earth apples". Pommes et pommes de terre. That's part of what I was getting at with my previous post. It's not elitist or false entitlement to expect a win like this. I think this is kinda backwards. If UTSA's development keeps pace with its first couple of years, I can see the Runners pulling a USF and advancing rapidly. But even with all of the potholes and speedbumps (and complete derailments) we've had over the years, I don't see how UTSA could be considered the program we need to catch up to yet. Has there even been a single win over an FBS team with a winning record yet? We may be all proven wrong if UTSA completely blows up in its first full year as an FBS team, but aside from some damn fine recruiting, the results just don't show any reason to assume a win here. You're right that our status is currently too unstable to consider anything an easy or automatic win either, but unless we see something different during the first few games of the season, all lines of reasoning would point to a moderate edge for North Texas in this game. And like I said, I think that 5 year period could change a lot, because with consistent growth and recruitment looking solid for UTSA, I can certainly expect that we may be the ones looking for an upset over you fairly soon.

  26. Although it would suck really bad, I say to hell with them. I think it will eventually lead to a decrease in viewership, which would ultimately mean less money for he networks. Greed will kill them at some point.

  27. We live in a world where everybody wants to put their "spin" on the story in order to save face, so excuse us for drawing conclusions based on "facts". We're not saying he's a terrible person just seems kind of odd considering the "facts" the AD provided us. You can't take forums too personally. Same team Farva.

  28. I don't place any more faith in this year's class than last year's class until they prove it on the field/court. I think we have seen star ratings in several NT sports to be a poor predictor to wins. I would rather judge a class by the number of W's instead of stars.

  38. Just FYI....Coach Hubbard WAS NOT FIRED! If you think so, you are simply mistaken. This move was strictly a family move...less responsibilities than he had as a head coach, still in coaching as he wanted and a bunch...Bunch...more time for a young family AND a really nice raise. He fully intended to return to Oklahoma before this offer came up. It was indeed a family decision...no one was fired! Get it? Good. Good luck Coach Hubbard and thanks for what you did for the Mean Green!

  43. Plumm - The Manziel family is of Lebanese descent. There are many Lebanese families in East Texas and especially in Tyler. I know members of several of those families and even had the privilege a decade or so ago of dating one of them. They are wonderful, warm people. But as with every group there are individuals, and even families, that are less wonderful than others. I am not going to get into the background of this family or any other. But if any of you are interested might I suggest that you go to Yahoo and type in "Manziel Tyler Texas" and decide for yourselves if family plays a role in Johnny Manziel's attitude and choices. At the bottom in Yahoo you will see "Search Related" and list of family members. I would suggest you start there as the first of many Yahoo pages are primarily devoted to Johnny Manziel. I do hope the young man makes wise decisions in the future and that he has a successful, and honorable, life.
