  3. Well, I see folks who were not at the event have spoken up in their usual style. That's fine...no harm. It must give them a moment of comfort, so it's all good. But, maybe someone who did attend should add a little something. Good crowd this evening...much better than last year, and, for one, I really enjoyed the new format in that all Mean Green Club members were invited. Had the feel of a Mean green Club MEETING. Format included an introduction and thanks to the Reps from Jessica, then a short chat by RV (talked about how well UNT showed in a study produced by Texas A&M discussing the athletic departments in the country who get the most out of the budgets they have to work with...UNT came in 1st in the SunBelt and 6th in the nation overall). That's a good news-bad news deal for me...absolutely great that UNT is doing so well compared to other D1 schools with the funds it has available to it, but seems to indicate UNT has far too little in the way of funds to work with these days in its efforts to move up and forward. Jessica and Taryn presented the awards to this year's Mean Green Club Volunteer Representative Program winners...Lance White won the overall award this year, and Todd Samuels won this year's Mean Green Spirit Award. Congrats to both Lance and Todd for all their great work on behalf of our UNT student-athletes. And, my personal thanks and congratulations as well go to all the Mean green Club Volunteer Reps who have demonstrated their willingness to do what they can in support of the Mean green Club and UNT's student-athletes. Coach Mac then got up and gave another one of his patented speeches that pretty much kicked off the fall camp (begins with some meetings on Sunday with first practice on Monday). He did mention a couple of injuries (both previously announced), but said everyone else was "good to go" for fall camp. He seemed genuinely excited (doesn't he always?) about the arrival of fall camp and the approaching season...and he also mentioned (but did not name) a new verbal that he received just prior to coming into the Mean Green Club MEETING. Jessica, RV and Coach Mac also took time to thank the entire Mean Green Club membership who demonstrate their support for the Mean Green and do so much in support of the program. I did notice quite a few new faces in the crowd...and they were noticed by several others besides me as well. I think that was a highlight for me as new faces mean new support and that is, indeed, a very good thing. Always great to see the "regulars", but so exciting to see new faces and get to meet new members and fans of the Mean Green. Thor...you were missed as a fellow poster, "old guy student", was asking for you. Wanted to meet you, and probably talk a little beer and Oak Street Draft House...I probably made a poor substitute for you, but I tried. Sorry, you had to miss the event, THOR. I think you would have enjoyed it as much as I did. If anyone wants to add anything more specific, please do as THOR was not the only one who probably had to miss the event, but would have actually liked to have attended.

  5. Good summary KRAM1 as you covered pretty much everything that went on. For me more than anything events like last night are an opportunity to get together at a great venue with so many friends that share the common interest of Mean Green Sports and the University of North Texas!

  7. I spoke with Hank last night and he is getting us 200 schedule posters and 200 schedule cups to distribute August 10 (Saturday) at 10 AM. We will meet at the Alumni Pavillion and split up into groups and cover Denton in green. This is a project that all GMG members can help with. Even if you just stop by and pick up 6 or 8 posters, that's 6 or 8 more locations covered. We'll need posters on the square, golden Triangle Mall, the new shopping areas on Loop 288, up and down University Drive, as well as the University area. Find a way to get out and help with this important, easy and fun project. Sign up here and bring a buddy. And bring a brush. We're painting the town GREEN !! GO MEAN GREEN

  10. I loved the Mean Green Club video. Those students talking about how they would never have had a chance to go to college without an athletic scholarship. Made me a little verklempt. It's all fun, games, egg rolls in the food line, and fuzzy green sweaters until you realize what it is we're really supporting. Edit: I was also really happy to hear Mac say that 95 football players were over a 3.0 GPA this past term. Then he pointed to the wing, said, "There are 144 steps to the top of that thing. You miss a class, you're running it." Followed shortly thereafter by, "But let's win some damn games! I get it!"

  11. I just like the fact that even the thought of losing to certain schools on the conference schedule is driving people crazy. It's been a while. I like it. Nothing like a sense of urgency to help the program focus.

  12. lol'd hard And I do see that, I made a similar but less funny analogy not too long ago. UTSA fans aren't boasting about anything btw, I'm just disproving the notion that our game is an easy W. No win is a given for NT given how bad theyve been in recent yrs.

  13. I have to admit, your posts are pretty funny, Toad Boy. Sadly, your analysis is pretty spot on, IMO. Us NT fans must use the physical strength we gained lugging our fat chick bodies around all those years to pound the pretty little tinkerbell into the ground. She can't enter the club before us, we just bought a new thong, had a new tramp stamp inked, and need to show our stuff.

  15. I'll be there. Thanks for organizing the event. I went and got my inspection sticker on my car yesterday and had an extra football poster in my back seat. After talking to the inspection guy. I gave it to him and he put it up in their window. The North Texas Sticker Station is always very supportive of UNT.

Thanks for getting this set up...Slide Show Joe and I were planning the same thing for August 10th, but will simply come on out and volunteer for your gig on the 17th. Let's Do This... Thanks Joe..see you on the 17th. GO MEAN GREEN! BTW...sign me up for the Fuzzy tacos, Rooster's, Oak Street Draft House, Queenie's area...I wworked that area last year and had pretty nice success...I'd like a repeat please and thank you!

  26. But hey they might look waayyy down on UTSA this upcoming season as well, especially if players are anything like your fans. So be careful...could be an upset alert!! Might get us on ESPN since UNT is waayyyyyyyyyyy better so it would be a monumental win for us.

  27. A loss shows we aren't committed to athletics. A loss shows that Apogee makes us a dressed up pig. Dodge's last year showed we have no commitment. Benford getting another year shows we have no commitment. If we lose to UTSA, then it's clear we have no commitment. Why should I commit if we don't? It's clear our administration thinks lowly of sports...it's all about overpriced student unions we don't need and buildings for bad academic programs...instead of buildings for things we're good at or need. If we lose to UTSA, there's no reason to be an active follower of NT football anymore. Admin doesn't want to win, or just doesn't care. Why would I, then? If we lost, Mac wouldn't get fired either...which is more proof. (To be clear, HUGE Mac fan. Hope he succeeds.) I'm not a fan who will jump off at any second, but the UTSA game is a benchmark showing me if we matter or not. A loss says we don't matter at the big sports and the administration is cool with that. Despite all the recent donations to athletics, stadiums, etc...if we are OK with getting passed up by a JuCo, then we should hang it up and alumni should stop donating to athletics and focus on academic donations solely. If we lose, I see no reason to keep rooting for us in football. Period. I see why our alumni end up so disconnected, honestly. It's not that we lose, it's that admin doesn't care. After Dickey, what do we do? Hire a high school coach, instead of a big name proven coach to push us over the top for monetary reasons. Or, wait until 20 years after Fouts' expiration date to do anything about it, resulting in us missing out on the first wave of realignment, which likely would have had us in a much better spot than we are now. Oh, and watching a school like a TC-freaking-U become the school of the metroplex in regards to football. Disgusting. Personally, I find it embarrassing that a school as large and as old as us are still hanging around the lower rung of college football as it is. That being said, we will win and win big in our breakout season.

UTSA 318. ODU 323. Rice ODU fired the coach and lost several players. I don't look for them to improve much. I don't think UTSA will ever compete at the top of C-USA basketball. With just a little bit of improvement, you can finish middle of the pack. I also think the top of the league will be wide open.

  30. I don't blame these guys. Everybody else (the Power 5 conferences) seem to want more and more money, so why can't the players? To say that these guys are killing the sport is the failure to recognize that there are other factors contributing to the demise of college football.

  31. Whatever happens, it'll end up as another $100 million each for Ohio State and LSU along with more stadium expansion up to the 200,000 capacity range. Jerry Jones sees it, and invokes eminent domain in Mansfield, increasing the size of (now) AT&T Stadium to the same geographic footprint as an median sized Caribbean island.

  32. If possible, could you come to the Alumni Center Aug 17 and snag some schedule posters for Lewisville ? This would make our Poster Pow Wow a bit more impressive in terms of distribution. If that's not possible, let me know here or via PM and I'll get some schedule posters to you. And anyone else that has a "non-Denton" location inmind, let me know. Come to think of it, we have businesses in Lake Dallas, Corinth, Pilot Point Krum, Decatur, etc that need some green in their town. Help us . GO MEAN GREEN

  36. This thread is so weird. I see how we definitely SHOULD win this game just like we SHOULD expect support for all of our programs...but with things finally coming along to where it looks like the admin, alums, and students are finally starting to give a damn like they should have years ago, I don't see how reason would dictate that a loss in a particular game means that the momentum we finally gained means that we don't support our teams and should pack up and go home. Success for UNT will come through consistent support leading to steady growth. If we bail every time we lose a game that we "should have won", then when the hissy-fit ends, we have to start all over again with growing the program. I'm glad for every type of supporter, even the bandwagoners and fair-weather fans, but as a whole we have to be more stable than that. Through losing seasons, coaching changes, and being left out of conferences and bowls, even if you want to call for somebody's job or a change in one area or another, we have to stabilize as a fanbase and a community. Much of this is probably a big part of what has led to our century-long up-and-down in football. If we hadn't had so many periods where everybody jumped ship or wanted to quit D-IA, etc., we wouldn't have had to start over. That century has only yielded about what, 30 years or so of good, solid support? So instead of continued excuses and ultimatums (though once in a while, ultimatums can be helpful), why not urge on the stability that has been lacking and has likely caused us to be far less effective than we should be by now? Now, as to the UTSA game itself, if the team assumes an easy win and "phones in" their performance, there is a very real chance of losing this game. But regardless of GL2G's stats, even though we didn't beat many good teams last year, UTSA's included 3 of the worst teams of the last decade. Plus we perform very well at Apogee. If everyone does their job, this should be a win, but that doesn't mean we should all burn our degrees and quit on everything we like to support if "should" doesn't happen. There are quite a few games we "should" have won over the years, and didn't, but losing those doesn't mean we had to assume it was a sign of the apocalypse and quit. And to their thread, there are some other weird predictions as well. Some of them are predicting wins against New Mexico, Rice, and La Tech but losses to teams I would expect them to win or at least compete very well with. It's not like they're overhyping the program, because it's not the overall thread predictions but specific posters predicting they'll beat better teams and lose to worse ones. Though 0-12 for UTSA isn't unrealistic, neither is a 3 or 4 win season as far as I can tell. Maybe even 6 if they surprise a few teams. But I do hope that we aren't one of the ones they celebrate. Finally, the analogy is close, but I think it's more like we were the awkward preteen who grew up to be a pretty girl, and then assumed her looks would last but ate too many cheeseburgers and got fat, and THEN worked hard to get pretty again. But overall it's pretty relevant.

  38. I must admit, I am not sure I do. He just got an offer from ND and that has him re-thinking some of this top previous choices. If some people convince him on UNT, then this 2014 class will start to look as one of the best recruiting classes in a very long time. Let's hope for more momentum coming our way.

  39. I swung by Voertman's while I was in Denton tonight. They had quite a bit more gear than I'd seen in there before and it was new stuff I hadn't seen. I talked to one of the employees and he said that the new ownership is now in place. Their focus is in text books right now, but said they only have 30% on the UNT gear they have coming in. They will have a ton of gear and it seemed reasonably priced. ( I saw some thirst for as little as $10.). They said they were not affiliated with the school bookstore. (Seems like a different story each time we ask. )

  40. What the Roadrunner needs to understand is that UNT was the guy everyone has bullied over the decades. (Being snubbed from the SWC where everybody in Texas who matters played in and they are still feeling the effects of that today. They were also forced to drop down to FCS, were snubbed from the original CUSA where TCU,UH,Louisville,SMU, Cincy, USF, UCF had epic battles with each other while they looked from the outside with grief and envy.) When they first proposed demolishing Fouts, they were laughed at and ridiculed. They have been down in the dumps for a very long time. Then comes UTSA out of nowhere and they are simply handed an invite to the conference UNT tried so hard to belong to. Then they hear about UTSAs impressive crowds and decent city coverage. All of this in only 3 short years. UTSA is now on the same level UNT fought for painful decades, losing generation after generation of students. Think of UNT being that fat ugly chick who lost a crapload of weight, got a new hairdo and is the talk of the town for half a second but here comes this slightly prettier girl who captures everybodys attention without putting in the work she had. That girl is UTSA. As a psychologist, I can tell you that its a psychological complex amongst UNT fans having to reassure themselves that they are better than UTSA even though there is evidence that seems to point to the contrary.

  42. This has always been the problem at NT we have no loyal fan base. Win or lose they are our team and we need to support them. i hope we make a big step in the win column this year but if we dont i will be back next year. We need to bring in that lady who sang for the razorbacks after their big loss to cheer us all up. I loved that video! i have already developed a dislike for the University of Texas at El Paso in San Antonio, TX.

  45. Without a doubt, there are some on this board who would have demanded for Hayden Fry's head after his "two win" season in his 2'nd year as North Texas HFC. And (again) TCU's Patterson would have been a goner after TCU lost to a 1-AA team (and I don't give a damn how long that "1-AA" school had been open for business because fact remains..............they were still a freakin' NCAA D1-AA football program playing a former SWC school that had only the year before beaten the USC Trojans in a Sun Bowl game. Only time most of us ever judged any North Texas HFC was after they'd been our UNT coach for several years and then most would go by their cumulative W/L record over those number of years); otherwise, most would trust our UNT officials to do what needed to be done or what in a perfect NCAA world should be done. And yes, some of us (including yours truly) have wondered why after years and years on staff they didn't change some of their modes of operation or why they were not changed but that was yester-year and those yester-year is gone. So yes, meanjoe, I just re-joined the Mean Green Club and am a season ticket holder again because IMHO....now (especially now on the eve of our 1'st CUSA football season) is the time for all Mean Green'ers everywhere to do what you don't see too much on this forum and what seems to be the "un-North Texas" thing to do and that is to form or create some semblance of solidarity...much like we all did in 1994. Remember 1994? That is when we all did what had to do for "OUR" alma mater to meet the stadium size and attendance criteria to re-join NCAA Division 1-A. We were a raging success with that venture! As some have posted, we've not been as unified since...wonder if history can or will repeat? Most of us who want to see our school progress sure as hell hope that history will repeat. GMG! PS: Anyone else feel our football recruiting momentum gaining as each day goes by? We even saw some samples of that on Fox Sports at the Texas HS Coach's football game in Fort Worth just last night. Say what you want, but Coach McCarney and staff's Friday Night Lights program is taking a stronghold among Texas HS juniors and seniors but even more importantly....among all of their respective Texas HS football coaches, too. So as Richard "Shaft" Roundtree was asked many times: "Can you dig it?"

Kenneth Dixon is OP though. 6-6 I do not want to lose to this pile of shit school!" Wow guys, and I read several other comments comparable to this one about us on their board. Are some UTSA students/fans like these folks really that delusional? They must be either completely ignorant or simply have some sort of jealousy issues toward our university. Regardless, I don't hold absolutely anything against UTSA, but these "fans" are simply foolish. Now I understand why many on this board want our football team to completely humiliate this team at Apogee and in the future. For the sake of shutting up these fools, I am all for that trend to commence this year.
