There's actually this place right off the square called Barefoot that sells a ton of North Texas gear. They have a better selection than Voertman's or the campus bookstore in my opinion. It's become my go-to place in Denton for North Texas apparel.6 points

Just wanted to point out that I love (love!) that we switched from Neulion to CBSSPORTS network. Loads quicker. Looks better. Even smells good.5 points

I LOVE music, but I'll never be anything more than a hobbyist. I appreciate DT's commitment and he seems like a really good guy, but I'm just skeptical he'll improve enough this year. It's not for lack of trying though. He's to be commended for effort.5 points

Gosh, I don't think anyone hates any MG football player. They may have hated a performance or 2 or 3 or game results, but hate one of our kids who wear the green? I think many of us have gone on record saying we hope Derek Thompson has a career year his last year at UNT (and I'd bet he wants that to happen 10 X's more than anyone on this message board). Again, I think DT#7 puts it all together this Fall and our team wins 6 or 7 games. If we win 7 we go bowling. Not sure 6 wins with a 12 game season would cut the mustard. GMG!5 points

Fox News at 6 aired a sports package about Dunbar's performance in training camp today. The intro was, "A running back from UNT is making quite an impression." Way to go Lance.4 points

More reason to be OK with a split from the power 5? I think so. It's a single-A budget vs major league budget. Everyone enjoys a good minor league ball club that knows what they are and what they aren't. The non-power 5 are stuck trying to straddle the fence.3 points

You know who doesn't hate DT and agrees he's super smart? WKU TROY MTSU ASU ULM Nobody doubts the guy's character, or heart, or brains. It's that whole accurate throwing thing that is an issue.3 points

First, it is hard to believe we are so close to the Idaho game and, were I not a rabid fan, I wouldn't know it. No schedule posters up on the square that I saw, on Fry Street etc. No hoopla. I went into Voertman's and it is slowly becoming a ghost town (more on that later). I bought a really good looking NT shirt for $10 and a NT baby beanie for my friends who just had a little girl...she's an OU grad and they're Sooners, but they say she'll wear her NT stuff for uncle Emmitt! A lot of stuff on clearance and no Texas Tech trailer hitches. I went over to Apogee to buy my Tulane ticket. It was $35! Geez, you'd think that Tulane would give you a coupon for a free hurricane too for that price. NT vs. tulane isn't exactly a marque matchup. Also, I talked to the spirit shop people about what was going on with the bookstore. Apparently the bookstore will be in an industrial grade "tent" like structure for a year or two while they build the union. Also, the bookstore bought out Voertman's but will keep the Voertman's name. That's good and bad. Good because the Voertman's store will stay there...and bad because, should the bookstore decide to price gouge for apparel, there is no alternative business to buy from.2 points

Plays for a pretty good team. Former Purdue commit, has since decommitted. Also holds a UTEP offer. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Brandon-Garner-142182 http://247sports.com/Player/Brandon-Garner-20286 http://www.hudl.com/athlete/554011/brandon-garner2 points

It's really shocking to me how little is done in this town for home games. UNT rents a place on the square and you can't even buy merchandise in there...you have to walk down to Barefoot to get any merchandise. I mean let's get creative or something. How about set up tables on high traffic times in front of it and sell stuff maybe on the saturdays of home games.2 points

But hey they might look waayyy down on UTSA this upcoming season as well, especially if players are anything like your fans. So be careful...could be an upset alert!! Might get us on ESPN since UNT is waayyyyyyyyyyy better so it would be a monumental win for us.2 points

Hey! Make your points and then leave! We're having a family argument right now and you're taking away from it.2 points

I hear ya and can understand how some of that reputation could transfer over. I just wish the law school was created on the Denton campus and guys like Cuban were helping improve flagship campus. After all, it'd be nice if Mark Cuban started helping out the athletic department the way Phil Knight does with Oregon :-)2 points

Now this is some real positive stuff with that, Harry, and thanks for posting it, but we have some on this forum who will find something negative to say about even that. Stay tuned...it will happen. GMG!2 points

A loss shows we aren't committed to athletics. A loss shows that Apogee makes us a dressed up pig. Dodge's last year showed we have no commitment. Benford getting another year shows we have no commitment. If we lose to UTSA, then it's clear we have no commitment. Why should I commit if we don't? It's clear our administration thinks lowly of sports...it's all about overpriced student unions we don't need and buildings for bad academic programs...instead of buildings for things we're good at or need. If we lose to UTSA, there's no reason to be an active follower of NT football anymore. Admin doesn't want to win, or just doesn't care. Why would I, then? If we lost, Mac wouldn't get fired either...which is more proof. (To be clear, HUGE Mac fan. Hope he succeeds.) I'm not a fan who will jump off at any second, but the UTSA game is a benchmark showing me if we matter or not. A loss says we don't matter at the big sports and the administration is cool with that. Despite all the recent donations to athletics, stadiums, etc...if we are OK with getting passed up by a JuCo, then we should hang it up and alumni should stop donating to athletics and focus on academic donations solely. If we lose, I see no reason to keep rooting for us in football. Period. I see why our alumni end up so disconnected, honestly. It's not that we lose, it's that admin doesn't care. After Dickey, what do we do? Hire a high school coach, instead of a big name proven coach to push us over the top for monetary reasons. Or, wait until 20 years after Fouts' expiration date to do anything about it, resulting in us missing out on the first wave of realignment, which likely would have had us in a much better spot than we are now. Oh, and watching a school like a TC-freaking-U become the school of the metroplex in regards to football. Disgusting. Personally, I find it embarrassing that a school as large and as old as us are still hanging around the lower rung of college football as it is. That being said, we will win and win big in our breakout season.2 points

UNT was outgained by fellow start-up South Alabama last season and only managed to beat them by 10 at Apogee. UTSA beat that same South Alabama team in Mobile, Alabama. Do yall even watch your own team? Theres no reason to chalk it up as automatic W.2 points

Im sorry but I dont buy this "He's just a college kid, doing what college kids do" excuse. It's a load of crap. His defense that he just an 20 year old and going to live life to the fullest. Maybe an average college kid acts like Johnny Football but JFF is not an average college kid! He's the Heisman Trophy Winner, the face of his program and maybe university. The average college kid doesnt get to be famous, doesnt get sideline seats to the NBA Finals, doesnt hang with LeBron, and rock stars, doesnt get free trips to New York to go to the ESPY's, talk shows etc.... To those who much has been given, much is expected The price to be paid for this fame, adulation, attention and future NFL millions? You dont get to live the typical lifestyle of an aveage college student. Really?? The cops give the courtesy to knock on your door and tell you to move your car before it gets ticketd and you view it as harassment?? Oh and about all this "Pressure" the instant fame and attention is putting on young Johnny? Why didnt we see similar headlines about RGIII? Tim Tebow? Sam Bradford? Colt McCoy? Andrew Luck? or any of the other college QB's that had rocketed to fame in the Twitter/social media era? Im sorry, to me Johnny Football is coming accross as a spoiled brat that wants his cake and eat it too.2 points

.. -- I am in education.... I have seen a lot of lousy kids from wealthy families. The parents do a terrible job of raising them and just never say "no" and make excuses for them. One I am thinking of wreaked several pickups and they kept buying him a new one... plus got a girl or two pregnant.... no problem ... the family did nothing. On the other end I have seen great kids come from very "poor (unwealthy) " families.. They turned out great... Odds may be better with a wealthy family BUT that is not the total answer .. good parenting usually is ... but with a few they succeed or fail despite what the family does or has... Manziel looks like a kid that never had limits put on him growing up.... kids that are out of control by age 10-12 or so will get worse... it starts young. Too many parents with teens have big problems and know it .. and usually the reason was what they did with the kid when he/she was young... Bad behavior is never "cute". I seen kids throw food at a restaurant or act up and parents think it is funny .. it isn't. Wait until they get 13 or so ... they will have created a Frankenstein that they can't now control.. A couple of good ones... know of a kid kicked off of bus ... result they refused to drive him... rode a bike for miles even if very cold... I am sure he got to think a lot about what he had done while peddling. Another --- parents ticked off at a girl (fighting) no makeup for her the remainder of the year .. looked a lot different.. (may have done a lot more, don't know.. that was obvious ) My wife got our older kid up at 6:00 AM every day for a few weeks after his verbal tirade at her and made him sit a kitchen table and read or study ... he is now a lawyer. ..2 points

I really hope that doesn't stick. (1) There was already a legendary RB with that nickname, and (2) his post career criminal activity forever tarnished anything having to do with him.2 points

With all due respect to Coach Chico, being the QB coach, shouldn't he be correcting some of DT's mechanical issues? He has worked with talented QB's in his past.2 points

That article is pretty interesting. I feel bad for the kid just for the fact that anything he does for some reason becomes a news story, he's not doing anything more than what a large portion of college kids do on a regular basis. However, he could do some things to help stop that, i.e. not tweeting stupid crap, so he does sort of egg it on. The thing I found a little shocking is how his dad talks about how he's so afraid of how his son drinks, and how he thinks it can all spin out of control, but then at the golf course he seemingly shares a beer with his underage son. Kind of terrible parenting.2 points

Would you feel the same after a UTSA loss if we finish the season with only 3 losses anyways? A UTSA loss would suck, but there is a bigger picture...right? I'm reading your post over and over, thinking this might be a bit. My sarcasm radar is sputtering lately.2 points

We all know the story of Jimmy Hoffa and Teamsters and corruption. The "tyranny of the union" is a thing of the past and there is very little corruption. Remember the survival of the union and members depends on the survival of the company. Unions want a fair price for their profession. In negotiations, the two sides can't be too far apart or they will never strike a deal. The union is not out to bankrupt the company. They want to get a fair wage for their members, and protection for the more senior members if it comes time for layoffs.2 points

Immaturity hurt a lot of 20 year olds that were not thrown into the public's eye like Manziel. I hope he grows up and learns from this, but I am afraid his greatest influences, Mom and Dad, aren't helping him.1 point
