  1. Ernie's a a great guy. There are quite a few others who went unnamed in that article that have taken it upon themselves to make some substantial gifts, most for the first time within the last 2-3 years. There is a core group of people out there selling this program, bringing in new fans and new money, and it's all growing. But me? I'm gonna focus on fraternity couches and UTSA, because those are the real issues. Incidentally, I sold three season tickets and a mean green club donation to a co-worker whose daughter is going in as a freshman to UNT this season. This is both good and bad news. I'm gonna have to watch the beer consumption now. Dammit!

  2. Don't we all have some overzealous fans, especially on the internet? Looking forward to the game in Denton, hoping the Roadrunners give y'all a run for your money.

  3. I really hope they go 0-12. I want us to beat them every year like Texas over Baylor, Tennessee over Vandy, USC over Cal. Cross state "rival" that isn't much of a rival because we pummel them every year.

  4. Lot of trash talk coming from a school who barely won against Texas A&M........Commerce.

  5. We were ranked where we were in rushing because teams put 12 in the box on 1st and 2nd down then went dime on 3rd...and always had the right defense called. Oh, and the wing zone had as many receptions from DT as Brelan did.

  6. I would hope that Brint would have already been contributing, considering he's the Vice-Chairman of the freakin' Board of Regents.

  7. There's a lot more than $3 million waiting to be announced , but it's mostly gifts to the academic side. Still, when our university gets donations from anywhere it helps out everyone, athletics included.

  8. I'm confident UNT will win at home against this former JUCO. Also, it will be funny watching UH shred UTSA secondary.

  9. There's actually this place right off the square called Barefoot that sells a ton of North Texas gear. They have a better selection than Voertman's or the campus bookstore in my opinion. It's become my go-to place in Denton for North Texas apparel.

  10. Distantly related to topic: the traffic on this board appears to have been boosted exponentially since the CUSA move. We have opportunities like this to get some back and forth chatter with schools within state lines. It's refreshing. I look forward to seeing what new posters might emerge. ::582 users online::

  11. If we don't beat their asses and Coach Mac isn't fired within 24 hours, the mass exodus of the fans that are still trying to cling on to some kind of hope for football success at UNT will be quick and long-lasting, I'm afraid. A program in its third year of existence, playing its first full year of major college football against a very strong OOC schedule and a CUSA schedule, shouldn't be even close to beating anyone that has played football for more than a decade. If they do, its not really gonna make me feel like UTSA has already made it--I believe they will, though, in the years to come--but it will make me think that the team that loses to them needs to think long and hard on whether football is something they need to compete in at the FBS level.

  12. I think at one point he already donated $1M to business school, so not like he was just sitting on sideline.

  14. We would hope so. But understanding that a political appointee to a board of regents does not necessarily have a great affinity for the institution itself makes this totally understandable. While such institutionally detached appointments have occurred throughout the history of this state, this is especially true of political appointees over the past 12 years or so - and especially to boards of regents of Texas public universities. Of course, our assumption in this case is that the story told by Kuehne to Vito is completely true as stated.

  15. My gods, that could get ugly very quickly. So long as the Coogs don't implode like they did against TxSt, they'll be fine. As far as UTSA, I can count to 2 - UTEP (which could unbearably bad to watch this year, sadly, as we should all want our fellow non-SWC Texas team to do well when not playing us) and Tulane (Realy AAC? Really?). It depends to an extent just how bad New Mexico intends to be this year.

  16. He enjoys some mighty fine seats at Apogee, so...yeah.

  17. I don't see 2 wins on the schedule for them, and that is being as generous as I can possibly be. Tulane and New Mexico--that's it. I doubt they will win both of those, so I figure they will get 1 at best. That must be some serious drugs that poster is taking.

  19. Since when did guts pass talent when fans discuss players? Especially when our QB position gets discussed... Thompson is not good...not average...not decent... Doesn't make him a bad guy...hell I'm not a good QB either, nor is my brother or any of my friends...we're still ok people. BUT...I keep hearing he's got guts...he's tough...he's experienced...he bleeds green! You know what I see? Overthrow...underthrow...pick...pick 6...slow...throws off back foot... I hear the Kansas State game...they gave him the underneath stuff all night...the only passes he completed all year were underneath dinks and dunks...an extension of the run game. Check out the "highlight" clips from last year...even the completions the WRs had to be high jumping contortionists...it's horrible! I promise to be there every Saturday, but damn it may just kill me to have to watch him again this season! It's nice if your QB has "guts", its nice if he's a "gamer", but what I want most, first and foremost...TALENT throwing the ball to receivers in a position to let them make plays! THAT'S WHAT I WANT! Thompson cannot be that person

  20. I remember how big of a deal it was when mattress mac gave us a million dollars. We all peed in our pants.... Had a big celebration. Since then, I wonder how much we have raised from both individuals and businesses. It seems like we have improved on that front to bring slightly more normalcy to it. Am I wrong?

  21. I'm wondering if his commitment is not for track and field. He is one of the best discus throwers in the state, having finished fourth at the last Texas Relays. Last year was his first season on the varsity in football. This kid is so far under the radar. It's hard to believe that in one varsity season that he stood out over all of the campers. Plus, if he's 6'1", 250, that's undersized for FBS football and the antithesis of Mac's first complaint regarding size. Being 2nd team all-district, if it's true, doesn't set you apart from our current squad. We're trying to elevate the talent level. On our current squad of 103 roster players (minus kickers/punters/snappers) 86 (83.5%) were first-team all-district. Many were all-area and several were all-state. There are even a few high school all-americans and a juco all-american. This team has talent but it's not up to speed with some CUSA teams. I think getting recognized talent begats getting more (and better) recognized talent.

  22. Aren't you the same person that criticizes our recruiting calling it pathetic or some other term because other teams are picking up commits? You can't have it both ways? It would be nice to just once hear you applaud our coaches recruiting efforts and not complain about everything.

  27. I tend to disagree. I don't see the new conference alone changing this one bit unless there's dramatic improvement on the field. The Idaho game will set things in motion in a big way. If the team comes out gangbusters and we enjoy a blowout victory (not that I'm exactly predicting one), attendance will see the CUSA bump. If the team comes out flat and it's a boring win or a loss, I don't see much improvement on the 18k unless there's conference title hopes late in the year.

  28. Anyone going to the football game tomorrow night at TCU? UNT has 3 representatives: Andy Flusche(Muenster) and Trevor Melugin(Prosper) on the North and Darvin Kidsy(Ft. Bend Elkins) on the South. Will also be broadcast on Fox Sports SW alternate channel.

  38. Couldn't have got em for $25. Actually the analogy is spot on. Denia residents avoid our games the same way Dallas avoids SMU games.

  39. To clarify my point, I see the CUSA move improving attendance for the Idaho game. If a person's excited about the conference move, they're likely at Apogee on 8/31. Because of recent dissapointments, the performance that game can turn excitement into an attitude of "we've seen this before" resulting in only the faithful 18k returning consistently.

  40. Maybe it's less a case of certain people valuing "guts" over talent and more a case of people recognizing that we're 40 something year old men & women who are routinely drawn into ruthless criticism of 20yr olds and trying to instead highlight the positives of this young man.

  41. I agree with UNT90...a rivalry should mean something every year, and each game should be a toss up...we need to beat the piss out of UTSA every time we play them
