  1. Since when did guts pass talent when fans discuss players? Especially when our QB position gets discussed... Thompson is not good...not average...not decent... Doesn't make him a bad guy...hell I'm not a good QB either, nor is my brother or any of my friends...we're still ok people. BUT...I keep hearing he's got guts...he's tough...he's experienced...he bleeds green! You know what I see? Overthrow...underthrow...pick...pick 6...slow...throws off back foot... I hear the Kansas State game...they gave him the underneath stuff all night...the only passes he completed all year were underneath dinks and dunks...an extension of the run game. Check out the "highlight" clips from last year...even the completions the WRs had to be high jumping contortionists...it's horrible! I promise to be there every Saturday, but damn it may just kill me to have to watch him again this season! It's nice if your QB has "guts", its nice if he's a "gamer", but what I want most, first and foremost...TALENT throwing the ball to receivers in a position to let them make plays! THAT'S WHAT I WANT! Thompson cannot be that person

  2. Should improve it. There's no excuse to sit on the hill or go running back to the houses. Gotta try to score with sober girls now.

  3. Don't confuse lack of trust with lack of support. We all support him, but our trust in his ability took a huge hit after watching him play last year. Also, saying he didn't have a decent o-line last year is ridiculous. That makes it sound like you're using our o-line giving him no time to throw as an excuse. They gave him all day to throw last year and that's a major reason why their is doubt in his ability.

  6. I am also happy we have a top 50 recruiting class again! This is without counting TJ Taylor so we should be solid. Benford better bring it this year because this years roster looks very very good.

  7. I agree GrayEagle. Some posters gripe about the amount of stars our recruits receive but then gripe when the same level recruit signs elsewhere. It is pretty funny when you stop and think about it. Some folks are never happy.

  8. There is no winning with this group. Half are clamoring because we have no commits and the other half are saying it's too early for commits because they might be gone by signing date. Admittedly, losing the receiver from Louisiana that signed with TCU last year may have hurt a little more than the linebacker from Sherman who committed late to Texas Tech but they both hurt. It's just that we lose far fewer commitments than we gain in last minute acceptances. When is there a safe time?

  16. The Idaho game will draw a lot simply because it's the first game of the season. If it were in November, it would draw flies.

  20. Well, since both the deep snapper and place kicker have already been taken...I will stick with the special teams guys and go with none other than #40 - PUNTER - Blake Macek! Going to be tough stepping into Will Atterberry's shoes, but pin 'em deep Blake! Love me some special teams guys...

  21. In keeping with my tradition of picking walk-on receivers who turn out to be valuable pieces in the passing game, give me Brady Brown.

  25. I tend to disagree. I don't see the new conference alone changing this one bit unless there's dramatic improvement on the field. The Idaho game will set things in motion in a big way. If the team comes out gangbusters and we enjoy a blowout victory (not that I'm exactly predicting one), attendance will see the CUSA bump. If the team comes out flat and it's a boring win or a loss, I don't see much improvement on the 18k unless there's conference title hopes late in the year.

  26. Dude! John was telling me that East Side is going to specialize in a selection of 50 different whiskeys to distinguish itself from OSDH&CP (by the way, how awesome is it to own two bars in town less than a block from each other??). So with OSDH&CP, East Side Social Club, the newly opened Mulberry St. Cantina which specializes in dozens of different tequilas, plus the ever amazing finisher that is Paschall's, how can we ever go wrong with drinks in this town again?!? (like we ever did, though, I am looking at you Public House and Treehouse...) Niche forever!

  27. I don't think it was a slight or an oversight. I bet the author meant - the only Head Coach with a NC ring earned as a HC. (since he is grading them as HC's.)

  28. It's pretty disturbing how quickly, swiftly, and seamlessly this is all taking place. Just days after conference realignment ended the term "Power 5" gained instant traction by the media outlets. Months after the "Power 5" became a household reference in college athletics the commissioners of those leagues start publicly stating NCAA rules need to change. Soon after that the NCAA publicly agrees. And now the schism begins. Makes you wonder how long they've had this plan in place to follow through with it so effortlessly. I also wonder if "the other 5" conferences have been working out a plan to help one another the way the "Power 5" have. My guess is that a lot of "the other 5" commissioners have been fairly blind to it up to this point hoping that they could get enough bowl tie-ins and TV markets to convince the "Power 5" they could be one of them. The writing is all on the wall at this point though. It's going to be tough to compete for air time when Oregon vs. Alabama, Michigan vs. Oklahoma St., and Wisconsin vs. LSU, are the games of the day. It makes Houston vs. NIU or UNT vs. SMU look incredibly boring. Hopefully the "other 5" commissioners face the facts and start working together to maximize TV deals, publicity, and exposure. Otherwise this could get real ugly real fast.

  33. This Fall North Texas will have 36,000+ football season ticket holders and most of you know where I'm coming from with that. It remains the job for those on campus top to botttom (and even professors touting Game Days in the classroom) to inspire as many of those 36,000 plus season ticket holders to use each of their respective tickets on each Game Day at Apogee Stadium. If the Wing Zone Family Plan ticket sales really ever took off (as I think they will in time) North Texas would start averaging 26-28,000 per home game. I think UNT student attendance will continue to grow (and impress us all). GMG! PS: This is the kind of synergy UNT freshmen will bring to our Game Day party in just a few weeks. I believe I read where this Fall's freshmen class will be larger than last Falls, too. The best part of this video starts at 1:18 on the timeline. Warning: A few explicit lyrics

  38. I imagine that UTEP and Rice fans are saying the same thing about the possibility of a rivalry with us. Their butts in our seats, and their money in our coffers looks pretty much the same to me. And if they care enough about driving up to Denton, and making a lot of noise at the game.......so much the better.

  39. Hoping for Rice. Large public vs small private. Houston vs the metroplex. 2 good marching bands going back and forth. Plus, they have pedigree. Lord forbid UTSA ever becoming anything other than a school we beat the crap out of EVERY time we play them and with whom we regret association.

  45. good question...the mean green fan base if fickle...i would hope to see 25000+ for the season opener...then at least 23000+ for each texas team...throw in 21000 for ball state and maybe 17000 for the muts...and you get... 22,000...i'll be damn...the same total you guess...ha... hopefully, we are both on the lower end...but who really knows...
