  2. I disagree...Coach Conley explained prior to the camp that Coach Grant was at the Buffalo Bills doing an internship, thus a Coach from Denton Ryan ran the WR group. Recruits have to realize that they have to do something at these camps to set them apart from the other participants. The kids have to be aggressive when getting reps....jump in and be assertive. If you go to these camps and become a "fly on the wall" you will not get the recognition you want.

  3. My thoughts exactly. You never know. Could battle for a starting spot next spring. Hopefully not, but him having a spring to get some experience under his belt is only a good thing. Also, with an extra semester as well as a likely redshirt, Means could have up to 11 semesters paid for, plus summer classes. Kid could have a doctorate by the time he leaves.

  5. Wait. Are INTs one of the major passing categories he's referring to? Are incompletions in there too? We might be on to something. I couldn't help it.

  6. First off, that's just sad. To have DT finish top 5 in all categories, he's thrown for 4531 yards, 26 TD, 21 INT and 9 wins. Another reason why no one knows of North Texas

  8. Today I was at the library and the bookstore. I saw one lady in the library wearing a UT shirt. Then I saw a group of kids visiting UNT and in that group was a Texas Tech hat, UT hat, and a TCU shirt. I have gone to school at 4 different colleges and never have I wore team gear from one to the other. Hopefully these kids learn to GO GREEN if and when they get accepted. The lady in the library should be sent home to change.

  9. Having heart doesn't make you a good QB. The stats are more indicative of how futile the QB position has been played at NT. Hopefully, BB and DW can raise that bar...

  13. Stupid UNT fans don't know that Horned Frogs are actually lizards. One should be concerned about the quality of the education they are receiving from a school that doesn't teach its students the difference between a reptile and an amphibian. Also to whoever said something about me "pissing on the antpile that is GMG", keep in mind that Horned Frogs eat ants. But of course, I wouldn't expect you guys to know that either. After all, you give out degrees for knowing how to play the kazoo and prancing around like a fairy. The hardest thing you will ever read at UNT, is the back of a cereal box.

  14. But he is 0 stars. That's for those that are excited about this young man, will spout this if he commits to NT yet complain if he goes elsewhere. Would love to have you at NT young Mr. Montgomery.

  15. Fixed it for ya. And get this critique of UNT from Cougie K: And so here we have a guy who attended UNT, and tries sweet talking about Rice, both schools where Larry McMurtry, probably the best writer in my generation (post WW2) earned degrees, and whose English Department Don Henley says "gave him the education he needed", who doesn't know the English language well enough to know that "since World War II" and "post WW2" mean the same thing. I'm only saying this because he/she will defend him/her self as having such a lack of a personal life because he/she is studying. What can a person be studying, at UNT, UH, Texas State, or wherever, where one's professors don't care whether a student even knows the meaning of simple words that they have plenty of time to gaze upon (as they must when confronted by their own brilliance) before they put them where everyone can read them? Our educational system has problems, and not just at UNT. This isn't about being a grammar nazi folks, this is about being able to communicate without seeming to be ignorant.

  19. I think that the last time we had a consistent rival was East Texas State (now East Texas A$M) back in the 20's/30's/40/'s and early 50's. During that time we played East Texas State 24 straight years, and it was regarded as a big rivalry game. During the same era, we played Texas State (SWTS) for 29 straight years (1920 to 1949), This entry from the 1949 YUCCA mentions the word "rivalry" Actually it says "ancient rivalry".....http://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth61018/m1/129/?q=Rivalry Here is the lead story from the 1942 YUCCA. http://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth61013/m1/190/?q=East%20Texas%20State,%20homecoming,%20train Here are some color images from the 1942 NT/ET rivalry http://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth61013/m1/160/?q=East%20Texas%20State,%20homecoming,%20train BTW, this game took place where the Willis Library now stands. The field and track were still there up to the late 60's. Anyway, even though we played SWT longer, we regarded the East Texas game as a big rivalry, and the main reason had to be because they were closer to us (Commerce Texas) than our other conference mates. Here are some highlights from 1947... http://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth61016/m1/230/?q=East%20Texas%20State,%20homecoming,%20train

  22. With things picking up a little but in the recruiting class of 2014 I wanted to see how you guys feel we should fill our scholarship spots. We currently have 17 scholarship seniors on our team, and about 79 players currently on scholarship. This 79 does not include Oregon transfer Anthony Wallace, who will be a part of the 2014 signing class like Darius Terrell and Reggie Pegram were last year. This 79 also does not include walk ons how may be put on scholarship this semester (i.e. Kaydon Kirby). We will lose 1 qb, 1 running back, 3 receivers, 2 tight ends, 1 o-lineman, 3 d-lineman, 2 linebackers, 3 dbs, and 1 kicker to graduation. My prediction: 23 total signees - 1 qb - 2 running backs - 3 receivers - 3 o-lineman - 1 tight end - 5 d-lineman (3 tackles, 2 ends) - 3 linebackers (including Anthony Wallace) - 3 defensive backs - 0 kickers (could get one depending on how confident Coach Mac is with Zach Paul and Travis Tamez replacing Zach Olen) - 2 athletes/best players available

  23. Here is a small tidbit that you might not know. When North Texas changed its name to the University of North Texas (cannot remember the year) Roy Orbison was a guest on the David Letterman show. Letterman asked him if he went to college and Roy proudly said 'Yes, I went to the University of North Texas.'....probably the first time the new name was heard on a national broadcast.

  24. You're referring to Steve Ramsey, I assume. Assuming the 67 is correct, a few things to consider: (1) 69 TD passes, (2) 22-6-1 won-loss-tie record, and (3) with our defense, a long INT usually meant a net gain in field position.

  25. Glad to hear that for Jeremy. And there's a lot of FBS talent that goes through Blinn...it couldn't hurt having a UNT/Coach Mac alum on the staff.

  29. Harry had mentioned that there were a pair of brothers who made it late to the Friday Night Lights Camp from Sugar Land. I was assuming it was Ronald and Donald. Only problem is we're most likely only taking 1 QB this class. Would love to have them, get Chad working on it!!

  30. That's Devante Davis. Not sure about Kelly, but he was somewhat buried on the depth chart and a guy coming in like Chad Davis didn't help his position on the depth chart.

  31. Yeah, Means is a big time pull. I know Tight End isn't a dire need, but I hope we continue to recruit Chumley. His size and athleticism would make him a weapon in the passing game.

  32. I was hoping they offered Monroe from fb bush. I watched him play for 3 years. He and his twin brother are the real deal and are legit 3 star talent. Monroe had a lot of buzz after his soph season and was very high on all 2014 lists. Could gave been a 4 star with a big season. His Jr season was not as great as expected because his wr twin brother sat out 2013 and that was his top target. His brother is just as good. Teams are waiting to see if his brother is 100%. I know the family would prefer they play in driving distance to Houston. They are both listed on Houston preseason top 100. They prefer to play together and I was hopong UNT would be the first to offer both. They worked out at the Katy camp. The wr had a good camp and was the best wr out there. It would be HUGE to get the Monroe twins.

  36. In the case of Chumley, none have him listed as a quarterback any longer. He is either listed as an athlete or a tight end. I don't understand how he got such a high rating as a quarterback without great passing skills but apparently he did. At one time we had offered both Chumley and Jeremy Jones (San Antonio East Central) before Means surfaced. There was also another tall quarterback named Monroe who was interested in us but I believe that he too, is no longer listed as a quarterback. I see now why they offered Means; he was the best quarterback on the board.

  39. 1 running back is definitely a possibility, but a lot of that will depend on how confident the coaches feel about our redshirt freshman Lewis, Rollins, and Evans after this year is over. Three running backs in the same grade potentially sets up a situation in which one may transfer. You never like to see that, but that's a reason why I see us taking two backs. More as an insurance policy. As for tight end, I wonder if we are still actively recruiting Caleb Chumley. He may be a case of a kid who wants to play quarterback in college and we probably won't be the one to give him that chance after the Means commitment.

  40. I like your analysis. The only positions that I see different are running back (where I believe we take only one) and tight end where we take none. After this year we will have Jimmerson, Pegram, Lewis, and Rollins at running back and Erick Evans may be given a scholarship and I believe that the potential there is strong. Tight ends after this year will be Loving, Reinhardt, Marcus Smith. Tanner Smith. and Cooper Jones. So far, we haven't offered to a tight end candidate unless one of the athletes can play tight end.

  42. Let's say ZImmerman hadn't killed Martin. They had their little slap and tickle and the law shows up. By some stretch of the legal imagination, prosecutors attempt to slap an aggravated stalking charge on Zimmerman. Based on the events of one night in a first time meeting, it would be impossible to convict Zimmerman of agggravated stalking. Aggravated stalking laws were enhanced over the last decade to cover repeated stalking over a period of time. Many original stalking laws were misdemeanors. Aggravated stalking was a way to upgrade charges against those who really intended to prey upon a certain victims. That is a universe different than two strangers struggling for the first time. Aggravated stalking would have been more difficult to stick than even the ridiculous second degree murder charge the prosecutors attempted. You have to face reality. They couldn't even get the manslaughter charge that they threw in at the last minute to stick. So many people want this to be more than what is it - an unfortunate tragedy. And, the only reason they want it to be that way is that Trayvon Martin was black and George Zimmerman is not. Lost, as always, in all of this is the same type of outrage for black on black and black on white crime. People only get all up in arms if a non-black kills a black. Why? Why is it no big deal when a black kills another black? Why does it cause no waves when a black kills a white or other non-black...like a "half-Hispanic" ZImmerman? Every murder should be a big deal. But, until Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and their ilk start showing up at funerals and trials of non-black victims of black murderers crying racism, then their charges of racism here and elsewhere are hollow to me. If non-blacks killing blacks is reason to scream racism, then the reverse should also be true,

  43. Honestly dont know if you are referring to my reading conprehension or your own, so I'll offer the following explanation: Notice that the elements for any type of stalking in Florida are "willfully, maliciously, AND repeatedly follows, harassed, or cyberstalks" Unless there is any documentation of Zimmerman following Martin on a previous occasion, what happened that night was simply not stalking. Words mean something in laws, and the AND in that sentence means it has to be a patterned behavior. It wasn't.
    1 point
  44. ...until you read about what it is and realize it doesn't apply here: Aggravated stalking: willful, malicious and repeated following or harassing another with credible threats with the intent to place person in reasonable fear of death or bodily injury; or willfully, maliciously, repeatedly follows or harasses minor under 16; or after injunction for protection or any court-imposed prohibition of conduct, knowingly, willfully, maliciously and repeatedly follows or harasses another person.
