Emmitt you need to visit with Dr. Phil about this obsession you have with Smoooo.5 points

SMU is clearly a team of the people. They're so loved, so relevant, that just over a month before their game with Texas Tech (a school that has a huge alumni base in Dallas and will likely bring 10-15,000 fans) they are hawking discounted tickets to any city employee who will buy them. Now I know some will accuse me of being an SMU fan (I'm looking at you 97and03) but I just couldn't pass up the chance to see the ponies get slaughtered by a Big XII team for $25. An SMU beating, driving to Denton to camp out at Apogee, waking up for a full day of tailgating, then watching us mud hole stomp the potatoes...now that's how you spend a weekend!4 points

Tell 'em like it is Emmitt. SMU IS the "Evil Empire". Their history of ridicule of NT means the start of the 2014 series is the first battle of a scorched earth war that Atilla, the Hun, would even cringe at such a first strike capability.4 points

You've got me. I have no idea why Vito put a Spanish accent on a gringo name like Abbe.4 points

I guess Bergland can come out in August 2 different ways after being labeled as the 3rd string QB...either down, unmotivated and maybe looking to go somewhere else to get to play, or it lights a fire under him to fight for a starting role. I really hope it's the latter. I'm really curious to see what he has when he's healthy and with the first string. His fire could also be infectious to DT and McNulty which only makes all of them better. Man, I'm pumped about this season....can't freakin wait4 points

The fact you you're trolling on a UNT board as a TCU (not that we are playing you any time soon) fan shows the sorry state of you.4 points

I watched it on the C-USA website. Coach Mac and Zach Orr both looked excited about the season, but didn't really discuss much. I thought the most interesting statement came from the commissioner. He said that C-USA is working on both of the new Florida bowls. We all knew C-USA was working on the Boca Bowl, but it seems C-USA is also working on the bowl at the Marlins Stadium in Miami. Did anyone else catch anything interesting that was said?3 points

Both of those teams are well-known for what most univerisites in the state are well-knonw for--having front-runner fanbases. Its funny how far Tech has fallen back from its glory days under Leach--couldn't happen to a better bunch, either. As for SMU, well, even as they have improved under June Jones quite dramatically, to most people in Dallas and the rest of Texas, they are always going to be the team that cheated incessantly and then got left behind when the SWC disbanded. Hard to draw crowds in Dallas, TX when you don't really matter anymore...3 points

Didn't a "disappointed-to-be-there" Houston bring like 35K to the game a couple of years ago? I know Houston has a bigger fan base, but we WOULDN'T be disappointed to be there. I think we could get around that number.3 points

And, yet, Johnny Quinn, who played his whole career under Dickey is the school's all-time reception yards leader.2 points

Great news on Conner! Doesn't QB Conner Means toss it to a particular receiver that we'd love for him to persuade into coming to UNT, the Mean Green Village and fabulous Apogee Stadium? GMG!2 points

I watched G.I. Joe and caught all the PSA's. I know all about the dope smokin, kidnapping and juvenile fire starting that was going on...so I had already won half the battle.2 points

I would REALLY like to see us at 2-2 after the first 4 this year. If we're good enough to be 2-2 after Idaho, Ohio, Ball St. and Georgia.....I think we're good enough to contend for the West.2 points

I'll be sending you the bill for the therapy I'll be needing after seeing that. It might be cheaper to just gouge out my eyes with an ice pick.2 points

There you go with that broad prejudicial brush of yours yet again. So, your entire knowledge of the 80s is Barney and Miami vice re-runs. Got it.2 points

This is an argument of your's that has some merit, but I disagree. I believe if Mac had confidence in DT then we would see him throwing more on first and second down. He ran the ball just as much with Seneca Wallace and Iowa State so that gives your argument a little more credibility. Problem is Wallace threw 18 ints his senior year, so it's understandable why Coach Mac didn't conduct an air-raid offense with Wallace either. Whether everyone in the stands is predicting a pass or no one is, DT had all day to throw last year whether it was third or first down, yet he made innacurate throws. No one saw a pass coming on that trick play against Troy but that didn't stop DT from missing a wide open Drew Miller. That WKU game was very telling. It made me believe that Coach Mac really doesn't trust DT and I think Mac will give Berglund or Mcnulty a shot this year. I really think Coach Mac is saying DT is the guy for now and saying Berglund is third could just be him egging Berglund on to make up ground in the competition. Just call me a conspiracy theorist! I do agree with you that we need less predictability even if DT is under center, but I don't agree that Mac and Chico will run just as much even with an adequate qb.2 points

Seems to me that the real proof is how the recruits develop, not how they are rated before they ever don a D1 uniform and step into a D1 football game. This year would seem to be quite telling for how The Coach Mac era is going with respect to his staff's recruits. We will all see pretty darn soon now. Just need to make sure that Dallas Cowboy injury bug remains in California and does not infect the Mean Green.2 points

Sounds like you need a North Texas Cup - a "must have" for every UNT football fan.2 points

I will not eat at a franchise restaurant unless I am starving to death. Someone needs to open up a good independent BBQ place in Denton. We used to have them and a good one could still compete against the soulless assembly line chains.2 points

Just glancing at the roster , this Ricky Pratt looks like a pretty decent player for a walk on Cisco Junior College: Played two seasons at Cisco College ... Was named all-conference during his sophomore season there and recorded four interceptions and 10 pass break ups. High School: Was a first-team all-district cornerback his junior and senior seasons at South Grand Prairie High School ... Had six interceptions as well as 33 pass break ups during that time.2 points

Harry, Vito, really doesn't matter. The fact is everyone knows coach Mac is ultra-conservative, especially on 1st down. If the pattern continues, so will the record.2 points

There have been a couple of times where he's bounced off some tackles for several extra yards. Hard to ask him to stop doing that... it's a big part of why he's so good. The guy plays balls-to-the-wall on every play. He could get injured every single time he touches the ball.1 point

Rex Rollins did play last year. Does anyone know how he can be considered a red-shirt freshman?1 point

And there it is. I wondered how long it would take until somebody wedged a shot at the President in. I literally posted this because it was devoid of political grandstanding and knew it would take the inevitable turn.1 point

I really want us to win, but things like this and Coach Mac producing players of character w/o tons of issues goes along way with me letting him slide if the win totals are slow in coming. I agree with untjim in that, if he can't turn things around for us, then we may never make it.1 point

We definitely have to get away from running all the time on 1st down. I recall one of the televised games last year where the announcer referred to this stat. It was ridiculous, almost 100%, how there was no variety.1 point

We just have a bunch of dumb receivers that don't even know where they're supposed to be. Furthermore, they probably couldn't catch it even if they were in the right place.1 point

Even if DT doesn't turn the ball over much by interceptions(14 is kind of high) he turns the ball over on downs enough to make up for it.1 point
