These are the kinds of stories that remind you that there's more to life than just winning and losing. Great story and thanks for sharing.7 points

The media is too busy telling us about MTSU players choking girls, and assaults by OSU running backs. Apparently, anything that gets a kid suspended should be made known to everyone immediately. I wish they'd dig up more stories like the one above.6 points

I guess it is all those years of watching Dickey Ball. I don't walk away from games thinking we were overly conservative.4 points

Uniform Critics? They didn't really criticize anything. They simply gave a recent history of the uniforms. Therefore, they should change the name of the site to "Uniform Historians."3 points

Totally agree with your sentiments. I will add that this is the kind of coach/person that will help us build the kind of loyal fan base that we need here to move up to the next level. For all of you young NT fans who have gotten tired of hearing about Hayden Fry......this is the kind of stuff that he did...or would have done. This is such a far cry from the days of "bunker mentality" and "grand exalted king of (High school) coaching" that were both big disasters.3 points

As I have said for a while, if Coach Mac can't turn this around here, no one can. His fire and his spirit are contagious and you have to be that kind of guy to make something work here in Denton. His experience in building a program and making a connection with the community and fanbase are well known. This story is just another great example of who we are blessed with as a leader. You might say that Todd Dodge or Darrell Dickey did stuff like this too, but we rarely heard of any decent interactions between those two--especially Dickey and his MFer comments about the fans--and the fanbase. Coach Mac is facing a huge mountain here and he isn't even halfway up, but the reality is that he is trying to build it up the right way. His recruiting of HS kids has not been good, but that is more institutional, in my opinion. Texas High School coaches and their parents need to see UNT win--becasue they will continue to see and hear Coach Mac be the kind of man that they would want their kids to be under. I'll tell you this--I'll take Coach Mac's personality and drive over a lot of other coaches around this state and region. In the end, and he knows this better than any of us, it will come down to wins and losses ONLY, but he's got this thing at least turned in the right direction. Whether he can get it moving further up the mountain is yet to be seen, but I like our chances with Coach Mac a heckuva lot more than any coach we have had here since Corky Nelson.3 points

This was my exact response to the above story. Thanks, Coach Mac.3 points

I don't think it was ALL DT's fault. I don't think he would be playing if it were all his fault. I'll be interested to see how he does after shedding a few pounds and hopefully becoming a little more mobile. I think if he doesn't respond well to that request from Chico/Mac, we may see Berglund and/or McNulty rather quickly.2 points

Awesome! Stay on your grind Tony. The sky is the limit and you have an overwhelming majority of North Texas fans who support you.2 points

There is no "good" BBQ in Denton, closest you'll find may be in McKinney. I hear good things about Hutchins BBQ. They made Texas Monthtly's Top 50 list2 points

Metzler's is the only decent BBQ in Denton, and they've got one HELL of a beer selection to go with it. But since it's Idaho, shouldn't you be looked for the best baked potato? That would be at the steakhouse in Ponder. It has a name, right? Ranchman's?2 points

Gray Eagle--I'm sorry your sarcasm wasn't sensed by the three people who gave you a minus. I'll bump you up for a great reply!! Love sarcasm that goes over lots of heads...2 points

Honestly, DT WAS the only position I truly was worried about. However, after reviewing the updated roster and assuming Boutwell can have a monster year, I think we'll be OK even with this position. I can assure you the DT position is one I'll be keenly watching during the Idaho game (BTW just got my plane ticket!!)2 points

I wouldn't make fun of the Sunbelt too much. UTSA would get taken being the woodshed by most of that conference. You guys had a descent record last year with a laughable schedule. I like UTSA but get real.2 points

I forgot how big Schrapps is. That's a big target. I'll be keeping my eye on him over the fall. Hopefully he develops into a nice receiver for us.2 points

lol I post on here because I enjoy conversing with other fans. Post on UTSA sites as well but Im not the kind that just wants to sit around and listen to all UTSA fans talk about how great we are. I enjoy variety. If you were still in the Slumbelt I probably wouldnt be here but your a future conference mate so you kind of do have some connection to my school.2 points

To that end, I did a little tabulating and found that indeed we have improved the talent of this squad. Of the 103 players (exclusive of punters, kickers and snappers) that are expected to start fall practice, 86 (83.5%) were 1st team all-district or better. Five more were 2nd team all-district. That does cover several states, classes and some private districts but the majority of our players came from Class 5A and 4A in Texas. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if all of the special teamers were all-district as well.2 points

Even if DT doesn't turn the ball over much by interceptions(14 is kind of high) he turns the ball over on downs enough to make up for it.2 points

great story - this is the type of thing I like to hear. I do believe is a very GOOD MAN...I have no doubts about this....I just hope he is a really good coach...this year should tell...once again, great story.2 points

Bowls need to lose their nonprofit status immediately. There is a change. How about salary caps for coaches and programs. Done. Any additional funds earned by programs goes directly to the university for academics. There is another change. NFL has a cap. Why not college? Additionally, if a player wants a stipend he has to maintain a 3.0 with real oversight to include no online classes. We already have pro football. It's called the NFL. If they continue this nonsense I am done with college football for good.2 points

A split will happen most likely. There's currently 64 schools + Notre Dame. I expect them to round it off at 70 by picking up BYU and some combo out of the pool of Boise, UNLV, Colorado State, Cincy, UCONN, Houston, USF, East Carolina, Temple and UCF. Once 5 of them are selected (imo I see Cincy, UCONN, Houston, Boise and either USF or UCF) though if the P5 goes to 16 each, then I can see all of those schools being chosen. Time will tell.1 point

Thank you. I'm getting sick and tired of hearing people say there are too many D1 schools and that the power 5 need to separate themselves. Last time I check this was "College" Football, not the NFL. I say if they try to exclude the non-AQ conferences, then we should pull out of the NCAA Basketball & Baseball Tournaments. Heck, the Cinderella's are what make March Madness interesting in the first place. Greed has overcome these schools, so let them go and see how it all plays out for them. There's plenty of talent out there to have 2 relevant college leagues.1 point

Count me in guys. As much as I like college sports, there is something inherently wrong and eventually self destructive in an educational system that places extracurricular entertainment ahead of academics regardless of how much money that entertainment generates. Values perverted are values lost.1 point

Speaking of helmets, are we going to have "100" on our helmets (or somewhere on our uniforms) next year to acknowledge our century of football as UT did several years ago? Surely we will not let this opportunity for a little press recognition pass - or will we?1 point

Stipends will mean more Death Penalties for violating recruiters who will use all the stipend ammo they have to get that Parade All American 5 star QB. Of course the Super Conference schools will all have stipend maximums for each player but it will be those other unseen percs that gets the more clever cheaters in trouble. Here are some responses from the CUSAbbs board: http://csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=640889 And from that board one of the more interesting posts: "Even the Sun Belt schools have already agreed to pay the stipend if it passes. That won't be the criteria used for the split. The reason the stipend was overturned was because of the FCS and non-football playing members of D-1. There is a scenario in which they take all of the G5 with them but don't allow FCS/1AAA schools to vote on our governance rules any more."1 point

For the most part we have been terrible on the road and at times struggles at home ( TX southern , Troy). I can see us only being favored in 2 games all year ( Idaho & UTSA). 0-12 is not that far fetched of an idea & I wouldn't blame anyone for choosing it.1 point

according to coachesvscancer.org: participating coaches have helped raise more than $87 million to help the American Cancer Society So yeah, I think the tournament does a lot!1 point

Definitely not, but when you stalk a fan site that has nothing to do with your school, it indicates you really don't have a life outside of the Internet. See Cougar Queen, Froggie Style (probably the saddest example), and Green Light to Greatness (also known as Checkfacts until people started ignoring him). Really sad examples of a lack of a real life. Careful, you're on your way to joining them.1 point

We could potentially play 14 games (not that you don't already know that). It's hard to predict a bowl win because we don't know who we would be playing or where it would be, but I'll say we win it, because why not!1 point
