I usually disagree with FroggyStyle but he has some points. The whole insecure sounding tone on here is sad. I went to UNT. Wow. Manny of my friends went elsewhere. Wow. One of my friends played for Miami. Not a big deal either. A couple of my friends played in the NFL. Cool, but they are good fellows, forget football. We should look forward to a great season of improving, not worrying about someone else. FroggyStyle, TCU is a good school, however, it's no UT or OU in the Big 12 world. So shut the F up and stop acting like it is. If you were so high and mighty you wouldn't be here talking trash.8 points

I concur. In club baseball we beat their team like a drum everytime, but they still act like punks and complain to the umps, then peel out of the parking lot in daddy's Benz. When we were kicking their butt players from their team literally started calling out our education at UNT, calling it second rate and crap like that. I can't wait to see our football team take them down year after year.7 points

When I went to UNT, SMU brats acted like I was less than them. Then When I went to TCU, SMU turds still acted better. Do SMU fools think they are better than everyone? If I went to freakin Harvard they would still act above me. I hate SMU, what it stands for, and most the students there can choke on their dad's car dealership.7 points

After I graduated from TCU with my masters I immediately got sad when I realized how much money I owed and the many jerks I met. UNT would have been a better choice for sure. Everyone around here is more laid back and just want to have a good time. That is why when I went back to school (again) I came back to UNT for more classes.4 points

Always remember, as a state school, we are much closer to UT academically than they are to Harvard (or Rice for that matter). SMU is expensive and that's about it.4 points

This is sad. A young man died, and he didn't have to. The person who killed him not only is free, but is richer because of it. Horrible. No satire. Not driven by media. Semantics and details got in the way of justice. AT LEAST a manslaughter conviction should have come down. For those of you saying he was standing his ground and shot the kid in self defense... Why did he need to "stand his ground"?? He was the pursuer. He was the aggressor. He got himself in a situation he could not handle, and killed someone to get out of it. This did not need to happen. Period. This is so simple.3 points

Well...if a frog had a glass ass, he would only hop once. Doubtful Zimmerman would have confronted Martin without the gun. Doubtful Martin would have "beat up" Zimmerman if Zimmerman didn't confront. If Zimmerman didn't have a gun, the cops would likely have asked Martin what he was doing, he would have said I'm walking home from the store, and the cops would likely have let him go.2 points

Really great to see these comments...a motivated Mitchell could be really hard to keep off the final Piston's roster. If he does make the final roster, I would predict that he would see decent playing time and continue to develop into a very solid NBA player. Time will tell how solid, but the early repost are VERY encouraging to see. Way to go Tony!2 points

I'm thoroughly confused. Are we arguing the merits of my post or am I now to defend the actions of the media as well because it fits your case? And why when you read the words "Zimmerman supporters" do you automatically think I'm talking about you? You should know quite well I have no problem calling anyone out by name...I believe in specificity like that. Or is this just more convenient to your assumption that there are only two sides to this issue, those that believe in "the truth" and those that want to cry racism? Funny, I thought there was the third option of being one who realizes that NOBODY other than George Zimmerman knows exactly what happened prior to Trayvon Martin getting the better of George Zimmerman in a physical altercation. Tell me, where was the eye witness testimony that Martin was the initial aggressor? That's right, there wasn't any. I'll leave the assumptions about Zimmerman's and Martin's mental state, level of intoxication, racist feelings, etc to greater minds than mine. Sure, I can throw out wild conjecture like anyone else but I recognize it as such and don't feel the need to assume that I'm wise enough to uncover a grand right wing conspiracy. The guy was found not guilty because the prosecution didn't have a strong case. No more, no less. I seem to have misplaced Al Sharpton and Brother Jesse's phone numbers so I won't be fielding any further questions on their behalf. Sorry.2 points

Look, who cares? Congrats to TCU for getting into the Big 12 and raising money to upgrade Amon Carter along the way. But, TCU is what it is against real football schools - TCU. Hence, the losing record in the BIg 12 and going 3-6 over the final three months of the 2012 season. Once they were done with Grambling, Kansas, Virginia, and SMU, the chickens came home to roost. TCU will forever be a 4- to 7- win school in the Big 12, with a majority of those wins coming OOC agains the likes of Gramblings, VIrginias, and SMUs. 2013 Frogs: 2013 TCU Football Schedule Aug. 31 - vs. LSU - Certain Loss, 0-1 Sept. 7 - Southeastern Louisiana, Certain Win, 1-1 Sept. 14 - at Texas Tech, Flip a coin, 2-1 or 1-2 Sept. 28 - SMU, Certain Win, 3-1 or 2-2 Oct. 5 - at Oklahoma, Certain Loss, 3-2 or 2-3 Oct. 12 - Kansas, Certain Win, 4-2 or 3-3 Oct. 19 - at Oklahoma State, Certain Loss, 4-3 or 3-4 Oct. 26 - Texas, Probable Loss, 4-4 or 3-5 Nov. 2 - West Virginia, Flip a coin, 5-4 or 3-6 Nov. 9 - at Iowa State, Flip a coin, 6-4 or 3-7 Nov. 16 - at Kansas State, Certain Loss, 6-5 or 3-8 Nov. 30 - Baylor, Flip a coin, 7-5 or 3-9 There are four flip a coin games in there. I'll bet they split them 2-2 and finish the season at 5-7. Wow. The only real mystery is will Texas suck enough to lose to TCU again. Odds are the Longhorn offense will be as mismanaged as before; however, their defense is stronger. This is exciting, brag-worthy football? I mean, to the extent that you'd waste time thumping your chest in a UNT football forum?2 points

"FroggyStyle, TCU is a good school, however, it's no UT or OU in the Big 12 world. So shut the F up and stop acting like it is. If you were so high and mighty you wouldn't be here talking trash." Exactly ! How many Texas or OU fans come to this forum to boast about their team. Zero. Why ? Because we are not threat to them and won't be in the near future. ANY fan of another university coming to this forum to troll is doing so because they see UNT as a possible threat to their own successes. Most TCU fans have been pretty cool, because they have better things to do than troll a UNT forum.2 points

"I know you guys are envious that you don't have a guy like Pachall on your team, so before you throw crap at him. We all know that you all would be falling over yourselves if UNT had a guy with his skill set. (We know that won't happen since your coach doesn't recruit very well. ) and at least he shows up to practices, worked hard, actually earning the starting job not expecting it to be handed to him, is a proven winner and isn't going around punching people at parties he has no business being at." Yeah....I remember the candlepower talk but the ULL game on TV was dark. I was at the game that night and a friend texted me that was watching it saying it was dark. Sure enough, when I got home I turned on the DVR and thought the same thing. Maybe it was a tech issue. We will see.2 points

The verifiable aspects of Zimmerman's story check out, the forensics check out, the police did not want to arrest him -- they had no probable cause. The police chief was fired and the mayor leaned on by the White House which helped politicize the case. From the start, the prosecution could not make it's case. Emmitt, if you had anything that could help the prosecution, you should have offered it. But you didn't because you don't so ....2 points

I love that it's ever so "simple" and everyone knows the true narrative...when in fact what Zimmerman supporters have clung to this entire time, and the jury used to reach their verdict, is that there was NOBODY who is still breathing (and not named George Zimmerman) who can say conclusively what happened. Let me play what if too (and couch it in a manner that seems definitive since that's apparently ok for the purposes of this thread). If my daughter, when she reached her teens, is walking home from the store and realizes that there is a vehicle following her I would expect that she might duck between a few houses to elude what she could only assume is a pedophile or worse. Then, if she continues to walk and realizes that this vehicle is still behind her, I would expect that she would get on the phone (hopefully to me) and might have a few choice words to say about the guy who's following her. And then, if that person decides to live out his lifelong fantasy of playing cop (though he's been rejected by actual police departments) and approaches my daughter to grab her and detain her because she's "suspicious" then I would expect that her response would be to beat the living shit out of the strange man who has accosted her. And I would condone, expect, and encourage her to contine beating him until the threat is subdued. And if he shot my daughter and killed her I'd expect that he would concoct some outlandish story about how she lay in wait to ambush him because he's embarrassed about getting owned by a teenage girl. And I'd expect that he would be convicted or that he had better learn how to hide from me for the rest of his natural life.2 points

There's no inferiority complex. Nobody likes elitists who feel that they're better than everyone else. Plus, let's be honest. We need a true rival and this series with them has the potential to be that, especially on the recruiting trail.1 point

I believe the answer is no. There were several pieces of evidence the defense wanted to enter but were not allowed to do so. I'm not sure what the judge's reason was but it might have to do with the fact that Trayvon Martin was not able to defend himself regarding much of the evidence the defense wanted to enter. Basically the judge was trying to prevent character assassination by the defense of a minor.1 point

Saw UNT and Denton's Joan "Rosebud" Blondell in what was one of her last roles before leukemia took her from us, ie, "Grease" with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Ms. Blondell played the waitress in the malt shop, of course. She was actually born in New York City, but she and family got smart and moved to Texas (like the rest of most all our ancestors did at some point). Good Lordy', in the video look at all the major male stars of old Hollywood our fellow UNT alum starred with. Did that lady ever have some beautiful eyes or what? She also had a bod' on her that she was never too shy to show to the camera lense. I remember as a kid watching her on TV in the 50's and 60's when they had all but made a comedienne of her but she was good at that, too. IN fact, she was good at anything that she wanted to be good at I suppose. A Blondell'ism......."There's a very fine line between underacting and not acting at all. And not acting is what a lot of actors are guilty of. It amazes me how some of these little numbers with dreamy looks and a dead pan are getting away wit it. I'd hate to see them on stage with a dog act." - Joan Blondell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNG7-2Ausis1 point

Been reading this thread from the start, and this is my first and last post on it. This easily could've been avoided. Both Zimmerman and Martin did not handle themselves well. Walk away. Both of you, one of you. Be the bigger person. Conflict resolution. I think that the verdict was the correct one. I think that this was pushed by the race card. I think the DOJ getting involved is terrible. I think people like Al Sharpton should crawl into a hole and never come back. The biggest part of this story to me is that a life was lost in a situation that could've been easily avoided.1 point

As far as politics go, if you are a die hard democrat, or die hard republican it's a good chance you are not fit to have a real "discussion" about anything. The answers and the solution is neither on the left or the right wing. Its probably somewhere in the middle where a head and a brain should be. (Staying with the eagle theme) As far as this trial goes, the prosecution made a mistake by trying to make Zimmerman look like a calculating killer that wanted to shoot a black kid that day. I agree both people made mistakes that day. Zimmerman who had a history of profiling went and started a conflict. Martin did not handle it the right way and lost his life. The tapes and the screaming was a big focus of the trial. Who was screaming? My logic tells me it is Zimmerman. It doesn't add up that Zimmerman would be getting the best of Martin and then have to shoot him. If I had to guess, Zimmerman ran up on Martin words were exchanged. He could have possibly even grabbed Martins arm to stop him and question him. Martin gets angry and whips zimmerman. Sore loser Zimmerman shot him. I don't buy that fear for his life crap. If Zimmerman reveals he has a gun up front, and says he is neighborhood watch, I doubt Martin fights him. Could Zimmerman have just taken the whipping without killing that dude? Probably. Easy for me to say on this forum though. Not sure if there was an opportunity for him to pull the gun and stop the fighting. All I know was he provoked a fist fight and pulled out a gun and killed him. We can come up with all kinds of scenarios, but Zimmerman killed Martin and that is a fact. I think it was more on the side of accidental, than murder, but he should still serve time. You make a mistake, you pay for it. No way should he get off free for being the main reason the fight started in the first place.1 point

I was watching the ULL game the other day on my DVR and Apogee does look a little dark. Our uniforms didn't look Kelly Green in that HD broadcast. That being said, the lighting at Apogee is considerably better then what we had at Fouts.1 point

"This is complete crap. If Trayvon Martin had been a 30 something black male who was active in his community watch program" If by "active" you mean self-appointed and not recongnized by the official neighborhood watch then yes. You know, as long as the details are all that matter. "The president of the homeowners association for the community where the shooting took place testified that he didn't think a neighborhood watch program was needed and that Zimmerman was in charge of the community's program from the very beginning. Donald O'Brien stressed that the homeowners association had nothing to do with the neighborhood watch program but that he did attend a meeting to start it. Residents were told to "stay away" from suspicious people and call police, O'Brien said." "In testimony Tuesday, Wendy Dorival, who worked as the volunteer program coordinator for the Sanford Police Department, said she made a presentation to facilitate a neighborhood watch program in 2011 for residents of Retreat at Twin Lakes, where Zimmeran lived and Trayvon was visiting a friend of his father's on the night he was killed. Assistant State Attorney John Guy showed the jury a slide show that Dorival used at neighborhood meetings. The presentation warned citizens against being vigiliantes and urged them to work with police be the eyes and ears of the community and report suspicious activity. "They're not supposed to take matters into their own hands," Dorival said." http://m.usatoday.com/article/news/2455163 If nothing else comes out of this trial I hope we can all agree that we have far too many wanna-be cops who get rejected by police and then decide they'll just patrol the streets anyway.1 point

This is also true and I wish he would have. You're spot on here. It's just that one guy died though. I mean, there are bad decisions, and then there are tragedies. Mr. Zimmerman will have to live with this for the rest of his life.1 point

I just know that I have read a story or two in my time where people driving, have accidentally run over kids who darted out in the street while chasing a ball or something....and they got manslaughter convictions. Those drivers were not really at fault of anything other than having really shitty luck. I guess i just don't see how this doesn't meet that standard.1 point

This is another "it would be funny if it wasn't tragically real" story. Especially noteworthy was the Green Beret killed by his 4-year-old. Concealed licenses are one thing, but out here in AZ you can walk around strapped pretty much anywhere. I thought it was a little surprising when I moved here, but I still get edgy when I see somebody running their fingers around the gun on their hip like a nervous tic or something. On one hand, I don't mind the idea of an armed populace (especially if they have to pass background checks) but people need to be careful with their weapons. A bunch of cautious and mindful people bearing arms makes me feel safer...carelessness or lack of verification, on the other hand, has the opposite effect on me...and I don't think I'm alone in thinking that way.1 point

Guys...I appreciate the kind words, but these things do not happen without so many other folks helping, and, of course, you guys signing up to play. You know...I looked back at some old records, and since I became associated with these games several years ago (I just don't have records before then...and don't have complete records of the ones I have been involved in either), it appears that EE (and the operative word here is certainly "we") have raised in excess of $15,000 for various areas of UNT Athletics! That's not chicken feed! Thank you ALL...you are the ones who make it happen! Go Mean Green!1 point

I mean sure, if you ignore the fact that Zimmerman applied to a police department and was rejected, then I guess the "wanna be" cop thing is just as much conjecture as your ridiculous theory that a kid leaving a convenience store is logically a burglar. Those two things seem logically comparable...oh, wait... I have no opinion on Zimmerman's guilt or innocence (though I'm sure UNTLifer will be along shortly to claim I'm hawking bean pies). I just think your logic leap is stupendous.1 point

But there will be riots if he is found innocent... Conjectures and what ifs...that's all both sides have since only one man really knows what happened...1 point

"And assume he did not follow him and Travon goes on to burglarize a house or harm a family. What then? Zimmerman lives with the guilt of knowing he did not stop him." Basically I am onboard with EagleGreen's take. I have no doubt Martin was kicking Zimmerman's ass and Zimmerman ultimately felt like his life was in danger and shot Martin. The problem is he put himself in that danger and should have avoided it. The 911 operator told him not to go after the kid. Martin was the one who felt threatened in the beginning. I know I would have a problem with some dude (bald head, goetee) following me around at night! I would have not confronted the stalker (I probably would have run scared shitless), but Martin seems to have faced his predator and obviously the rest is history.1 point
