  1. Very true, AND Martin could have walked on home, but he decided to confront that " creepy white cracker." Two bad decisions led to a senseless death.

  2. As far as politics go, if you are a die hard democrat, or die hard republican it's a good chance you are not fit to have a real "discussion" about anything. The answers and the solution is neither on the left or the right wing. Its probably somewhere in the middle where a head and a brain should be. (Staying with the eagle theme) As far as this trial goes, the prosecution made a mistake by trying to make Zimmerman look like a calculating killer that wanted to shoot a black kid that day. I agree both people made mistakes that day. Zimmerman who had a history of profiling went and started a conflict. Martin did not handle it the right way and lost his life. The tapes and the screaming was a big focus of the trial. Who was screaming? My logic tells me it is Zimmerman. It doesn't add up that Zimmerman would be getting the best of Martin and then have to shoot him. If I had to guess, Zimmerman ran up on Martin words were exchanged. He could have possibly even grabbed Martins arm to stop him and question him. Martin gets angry and whips zimmerman. Sore loser Zimmerman shot him. I don't buy that fear for his life crap. If Zimmerman reveals he has a gun up front, and says he is neighborhood watch, I doubt Martin fights him. Could Zimmerman have just taken the whipping without killing that dude? Probably. Easy for me to say on this forum though. Not sure if there was an opportunity for him to pull the gun and stop the fighting. All I know was he provoked a fist fight and pulled out a gun and killed him. We can come up with all kinds of scenarios, but Zimmerman killed Martin and that is a fact. I think it was more on the side of accidental, than murder, but he should still serve time. You make a mistake, you pay for it. No way should he get off free for being the main reason the fight started in the first place.

  3. Been reading this thread from the start, and this is my first and last post on it. This easily could've been avoided. Both Zimmerman and Martin did not handle themselves well. Walk away. Both of you, one of you. Be the bigger person. Conflict resolution. I think that the verdict was the correct one. I think that this was pushed by the race card. I think the DOJ getting involved is terrible. I think people like Al Sharpton should crawl into a hole and never come back. The biggest part of this story to me is that a life was lost in a situation that could've been easily avoided.

  4. Had a good time watching the game too. Get to put some faces to names. Note: if I ever win the Lottery and want to donate to UNT, I would donate to the Woman's Softball Team to upgrade the bathroom and concession facilities at Lovelace.

  6. "This is complete crap. If Trayvon Martin had been a 30 something black male who was active in his community watch program" If by "active" you mean self-appointed and not recongnized by the official neighborhood watch then yes. You know, as long as the details are all that matter. "The president of the homeowners association for the community where the shooting took place testified that he didn't think a neighborhood watch program was needed and that Zimmerman was in charge of the community's program from the very beginning. Donald O'Brien stressed that the homeowners association had nothing to do with the neighborhood watch program but that he did attend a meeting to start it. Residents were told to "stay away" from suspicious people and call police, O'Brien said." "In testimony Tuesday, Wendy Dorival, who worked as the volunteer program coordinator for the Sanford Police Department, said she made a presentation to facilitate a neighborhood watch program in 2011 for residents of Retreat at Twin Lakes, where Zimmeran lived and Trayvon was visiting a friend of his father's on the night he was killed. Assistant State Attorney John Guy showed the jury a slide show that Dorival used at neighborhood meetings. The presentation warned citizens against being vigiliantes and urged them to work with police be the eyes and ears of the community and report suspicious activity. "They're not supposed to take matters into their own hands," Dorival said." http://m.usatoday.com/article/news/2455163 If nothing else comes out of this trial I hope we can all agree that we have far too many wanna-be cops who get rejected by police and then decide they'll just patrol the streets anyway.

  7. This is complete crap. If Trayvon Martin had been a 30 something black male who was active in his community watch program with no criminal history and he had followed a half Hispanic/half white 17 year old Zimmerman while calling the police to report Zimmerman as a suspicious person, and Zimmerman had turned on and attacked Martin, we would have never even heard about this case. And there would have been no charges and no trial. Race IS the reason this went to trial.

  9. I don't see a problem with it. I guess I'd need to find someone who copies video tapes or makes them into DVDs. I think I know a place in the town about 30 miles north of me that does that.

"Obama Uses Martin Outcome Towards Gun Control" http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/07/14/19467556-obama-honor-trayvon-martin-by-battling-gun-violence?lite See what I mean about this administration and their Alynski like behavior? When it first occured not a word about the 6 to 8 homicides that wiould happen each week in his home town of Chicago???? Now this. At least he's calling for calm? Rick

  12. The facts of the case are pretty simple. Zimmerman legally followed him. Trayvon beat the crap out Zimmerman. Zimmerman ended the assault with a single shot while defending himself. There was no case. Government forced a crappy case. Government loses to reason. The media will find a new story in 30 seconds. Case closed.

  14. I just know that I have read a story or two in my time where people driving, have accidentally run over kids who darted out in the street while chasing a ball or something....and they got manslaughter convictions. Those drivers were not really at fault of anything other than having really shitty luck. I guess i just don't see how this doesn't meet that standard.

  15. It's a political case, pure and simple. Obama damned Zimmerman the second he spoke on behalf of the dead kid. The case agent even believed the suspect and said so on the stand. However, he is done. Either way both these guys were tools that night and happened to cross paths. Perfect storm of two morons meeting in the dark.

  16. So, what can I say but thanks so much to all who sponsored, played and volunteered to make the first ever GMG.Com World Seies of Softball a success! It was a great time...not only was the game a success, but how about that great brisket and those super hot dogs at the tailgate after te game? Greatness...pure greatness...thank you Dale Hiatt. In case you did not know it, Dale donated all the brisket and dogs...and did all the cooking as well! As for the game itself...much better quality of play than I think anyone really expected...the Green team won it 23-17 on a walk off grand slam tater by UNT88....Brian Futrell! What a great way to end the game...well, if you were on the green team I guess! :-). Lots of homers, some great fielding, and yes...a bit of comedy as well. The Home Run Derby prior to the game was won by GREG who hit three of six swings out of the park. Our second place honor went to none other than Emmitt01 who put two of six swings out! Now...for the reason the game is played...while I have a couple of auction items to collect...trust me...no problem there...the returns show that After all expenses, the UNT Softball Scholarship Fund will be receiving $1557.00 from the inaugural softball game! A really nice first game net folks....and could not have happened without our players, sponsors and volunteers! I am so proud to be part of a group of people willing to participate in these events to help provide scholarship funds for UNT student-athlete scholarships. You folks are the best! Hey...it was so much fun that even our umpires UNTFlyer and Marshall had a pretty darn easy time of it...I don't think even one spectator or player even booed them...not once! :-) Thanks again to all...it was a great day to be part of the Mean Green Nation! Thanks to untcampbell and Ragemaster5000 for helping to get this event set up and for all your help in seeing that it was a success! I think this event might just be a "keeper", and we add it to the series...what say you?

  17. ...YouTube video music background by our internationally famous--multi-Grammy nominated UNT O'Clock Lab Band. Song: Hip Pickles Composer: Lou Marini, Jr. (UNT 1 o'clock alum and Lou is the sax player on top of diner bar in Blues Brothers movie/Akrowd/Belushi) Performed By: One O'Clock Lab Band Director: Steve Weist, UNT College of Music _______________________________________________________________________ Our UNT leaders are going to make it to where recruits will want to come to UNT for even more reasons than just to use their scholarship-worthy talents on the competitive fields and venues of battle with varsity football, basketball, track & field, men & womens tennis, womens softball and volleyball, future men's varsity baseball, etc, etc... This video blew me away and shows how enormous our new UNT union will be when finished. Also looks like UNT athletics will get some very nice full blown action pics inside the Union once finished. Unbelievable... GMG!

  21. Think they might be at roster limit without signing him or Siva...they apparently are going to hold onto the dead weight of Charlie V in hopes his expiring contract can be an asset. I think regardless Tony will be on an NBA roster on opening day. They have until 9/6 to decide if they will tender a contract. He may still need polish to his offensive game, but his play in Summer League showed he can definitely contribute now in other areas.

  22. I was watching the ULL game the other day on my DVR and Apogee does look a little dark. Our uniforms didn't look Kelly Green in that HD broadcast. That being said, the lighting at Apogee is considerably better then what we had at Fouts.

  25. .. Is everything political to you ..?? Both people made very bad decisions ... one followed when he shouldn't have and with a gun he should not had and the other apparently turned and attacked him .... and the results was a tragedy. There was no good answer to this.

  26. Justice should ALWAYS be about the details, and never about emotion. CMJ, don't look at a broad definition of Manslaughter. The only definition that matters is the Florida Penal Code definition.

  27. It would be a possibility if Zimmerman were convicted, albeit a very slight one. It is not a possibility once the jury has issued a verdict. Now, what I wouldn't be surprised by, but absolutely should not happen, is if Eric Holder and the U.S. Justice department attempt to charge Zimmerman with a federal civil rights violation. I don't think that would be a possibility at this point, but it would not surprise me if it happened.

  28. This is also true and I wish he would have. You're spot on here. It's just that one guy died though. I mean, there are bad decisions, and then there are tragedies. Mr. Zimmerman will have to live with this for the rest of his life.

  29. A bunch of college guys hire a stripper who she performs then goes to a completely different party, gets too drunk & passes out. Doesnt remember what happens, changes her story 15 times but figures she can make money by blaming it on a bunch of white college kids at a expensive private university. Duke LAX gets banned for season before hearing due to media. Proved innocent. Lost season for nothing. Media creating firestorm because of race.

  37. Humbly, the White team had too much to overcome under the burden of the coaching. Really enjoyed this outing, meeting a few new friends, eating a BBQ sandwich prepared by the great Dale and playing under the tutelage of Commissioner Mark (who made the call on the Grand Slam by Carey). Also appreciate all who bid on silent auction items. My favorite moment: White team SS Emily, who played WBB at NT as an OU transfer, comes to the plate and jacks one...foul by inches. Both Emily and Limbs came to play, and were stars for the white team. Rules I would reconsider: Start with 1 strike, no balls (quiet, you). If a male walks with a female next up, give the female the option to hit. Very much appreciate all who came out and donated money to support the softball team. Sadly there was no announcement about the new coach, but a nice foundation has been laid by Coach Hubbard, with plenty of upside ahead. Thanks to all. GMG

  41. .......Including a couple of Norm Hitzghes-esque "Dad" would be... jokes: Back in the old days CUSA would have probably already become (by common sense) 2 separate regional conferences with the way all this is shaking out. Both could fight over this name: Conference-Half of USA? Has UNT ever been happy and content being in a conference that had members with former president's names for their school's names? James Madison (CUSA?): 4'th president of the USA Sam Houston State (Southland Conference)......former president of the Republic of Texas http://www.lsjunction.com/facts/presdnts.htm Home page of above website: http://www.lsjunction.com/ Will there ever be a Jim Bowie State? Perhaps one of this school's cheerleader yells would be: Cut em' up! Cut em' up!?!?! OK, time for the meds... GMG! Did You Know ? 42. What did Zimmerman know at the time? That the neighborhood had experienced a bunch of burglaries in his neighborhood and he saw someone he considered suspicious and followed him, nothing against the law about that, not even if he was told by the dispatcher not to follow. You say he is a murderer. Do murderers normally call the police BEFORE they commit the murder? Lots of emotions, which isn't what guilt or innocence should be based on. Just the facts, ma'am .

  43. It's not crystal clear. In fact, very little in this case is actually crystal clear. I would challenge that Zimmerman didn't go after Martin with intent to kill. I don't think the prosecution could even come close to proving the murder was premeditated.

  44. If this was indeed the case and the defense found out about it is grounds for a mistrial. If you watched or listened to any of the trial you'd also know that the judge asked if any of the jurors had used social media or logged onto an electronic device. The judge was trying very hard to make sure the jury's opinion was not swayed by any means possible.
