That Drummond dude has like 50 points and 35 boards in two games.5 points

We got our ass handed to us by Monroe. Twice. There is no excuse for that. They played with just as many players as we did and none of which had another DI offer. I'm Giving Benford a clean slate this year & I'm going in with high expectations , but he's on a short leash with me (and probably most fans ) I see no reason why we shouldn't expect to win 20+ games I'll be there to support him & this team, but he has to produce wins this year. Another failed season & he deserves all the criticism thrown his way5 points

I only played football in the 8th grade and then played tennis for the Fort Madison (Iowa) High School Bloodhounds from 1974-1977. I was able to live out my sports dreams through my son. He played football for Hebron High School in Carrollton from 2003-2006. His high school record was 45-3 including a perfect 16-0 Class 4A State Championship season in 2005. The three losses were to Woodrow Wilson led by RB/LB Sergio Kindle and twice to Cedar Hill led by QB William Cole. My son went on to play for the Mean Green from 2007-2011. He loved UNT, Denton and playing on the team except for the 13-47 record.3 points

Arlington Martin class of 2011. Played four years. Junior year alternated between JV and varsity but got to see some snaps on Friday nights a few times. Started at center my senior year and we were 10-3 with an undefeated district championship. Unfortunately lost to Euless Trinity in the third round both my Junior and Senior year. Luckily my buddies in the class after me, including Trussell and Haboul, got revenge for us and beat them the year after I graduated. I was privileged to play with 6 guys who earned D1 scholarships in my class and 8 guys the next year including a couple members of our beloved Mean Green. I was too small to play college football but luckily I had good grades and a good SAT score so UNT gave me a nice little academic scholly, and I'm getting to play club baseball here.3 points

I know that we've had some run ins with the law lately but I do love that McCarney only pulls in good upstanding men who get their academic situation under control. Love it. I'd rather have a bad team full of smart real men then a good team full of thugs. At the Troy game, those kids were some of the trashiest people I've ever encountered. Trying to fight the student section...'grills', just acting like thugs. Shameful to Troy. You're here to learn first, play second. In my opinion. Many schools have it backward.3 points

Ummm. Maybe you missed the following KRAM1 quote from the other thread: "OK...here's a biggie ..... NO BEER IN THE PLAYING FIELD AREA...TAILGATE, YES! PLAYING FIELD NO! We need to heed this rule, folks...will help us to keep being able to play these games on university fields. Thanks for understanding."2 points

You are absolutely correct. As he is now an alumni of North Texas, great job Tony Mitchell. Continue to play well and good things will come your way. As for the upcoming season, Coach Benford, it is now time to make your mark.2 points

Hello all. Picking up on an old thread here, but better than starting the same one again, I suppose! I am a die-hard UGA fan who's been living in Denton for 13 years now. My oldest son has just enrolled at UNT as a Freshman, so this game is a must-see for us. I'll definitely be in Athens with my son for the game, and would enjoy meeting up with some other North Texans while there. I can probably also help arrange some friendly tailgates with other UGA friends if people are interested. Athens is a great town and UGA fans are (generally) great people - as long as you're not wearing orange! Oh, and if you want a taste of North Texas while you're there, Fuzzy's opened in Athens a couple months ago!2 points

If you didn't just watch the Pistons-Heat game, then you missed a great one. Pistons were down by 10+ at the half and the Pistons came back to win it in the last couple of seconds...and guess who hit the game winner.....Tony Mitchell. I will update with a video once it's available because it was amazing.2 points

Then based upon your little scenario above, why would anyone get fired? What if your "young player who had shown the ability to make great things happen" stopped producing because he was no longer putting forth the required effort for the job? There are a multitude of variables to all situations. Of course, just being responsible for training I can see where you get your point of view. Personal responsibility should be expected of all parties.2 points

Pardon me while I get out my crying towel. Both parties (when they are the majority) of trying to bully the other party and throw their weight around. It doesn't make it right, but it a fact of life.2 points

In your profession, do you have responsibility for hiring and training staff? Is so, are you responsible for their performance?2 points

Yep...it is 7 innings or noon...whichever comes first. Some of us might not survive if it goes any longer and noon seems such a good time for some great brisket and some cold beverages....2 points

GO STALLIONS! I also played football at North Mesquite, 96-2000. 96 we were number one in the nation, but lost to the Fight'n Farmers (who went on to win state). We beat Odessa Permian in Mesquite, at Memorial Stadium and then kicked the crap out of them in Odessa the next year. I was on varsity as a sophomore ( on two people on the team were sophomore). Played middle and outside linebacker. Sadly, I herniated three disk in my back the summer before my Junior year. After both the preseason games I had to quit forever.... My dad still has letters from all kinds of schools inquiring about me. None really got to offer me anything on paper because of my age but I did talk to a few college coaches. Got a lot of letter from Nebraska, Syracuse, Kansas State, New Mexico State, and SFA. After I had to stop playing I stayed on the team and helped the coaches out. It was nice of them to let me stay a part of the team I loved. Since then I have had 5 back surgeries. Glad I stopped playing when they told me to. Could be a lot worse.2 points

We also had healthy players who could consistently shoot or guard above the arc. Can't win a lot of games doing that. Benford or no Benford2 points

. Plumm that post made me want to get home and hold my wife and kids.2 points

Cool. If he brings the scoring punch he had at Ole Miss we should start winning those 1 point games.2 points

Tony will make the team. He was not drafted by the Pistons with the expectation that he would start this year. At best, they are probably hoping for some meaningful minutes by the middle of the season. He might even be in D League until then to, and there is no shame in that at this stage. Their recent signings really have nothing to do at this point with Tony and their plans for him. On another note, Olynyk is tearing it up for Boston, and the Mavs are left without even having a bag to hold.1 point

Tony will make the team. Mark it If he's traded / moves to another team , it will be Toronto. Raptors have already tried to acquire him1 point

No, I chose to blame Bemford because it is his JOB to get the best out of his players. It's what a coach is hired to do.1 point

I may be off base, but Admins opinions are something they should have on their own and not voiced through an official channel that can be construed as being supported or with the blessing of the website .. hard to cater the view of an unbiased website one way or another if you allow someone who is directly involved in the website to have opinions that can strongly sway fans one way or another. It hurts the business model long-term if a board swings too far one way or another and moderation is a key part in all of that.1 point

PS: I've blocked off days this Fall; that is, our CUSA inauguration year that I would ordinarily be DJ'ing events. I buy my Mean Green season tickets in a few weeks on a day after SUMG (and anyone else wanting to join us) go to the Ranchmens in Ponder to break bread, eat some steak and reminisce--and to look forward, too. This year I want to be at Apogee "in person" to see some of the schools that are mocking "OUR" school now catch holy hell in a green-tinted hand basket! Go Mean Green!1 point

Speaking of softball, any word on a new coach?1 point

He's probably looking at UTSA's record as just raw numbers and not looking at it based on strength-of-schedule. It looks like they're a powerhouse, but anyone will look like a powerhouse school when your schedule involves beating up small children who just happen to be in pads.1 point
