I can't believe football starts up next month. In parallel with the change in conference, I'm making a change in watching party venues for those over Collin County way. This was driven by some apparent changes in booking policies at the previous establishment as well as the fact that where we were before in Allen just wasn't big enough for the group we were drawing for some games. I had a meeting today with the restaurant that will be hosting us. It is located in the shopping complex across the street from where we were the past two years. Instead of the Village at Allen, we'll be across the street at the Village of Fairview at an establishment called Fairview Down Under. Some upgrades include: Table Service (no more missing part of the game to go get food or drink) Full Bar Plenty of Room (the game will be projected on a screen that can easily be seen throughout the restaurant with no obstructed views) Better Audio Situation (they will pipe the audio through the restaurant or PA) Live music immediately following Saturday night games (the bands will wait to start until the NT game ends) They will show the Ball State and Rice home games (without a host) for those that can't make it to Denton. We currently plan to show the following games at Fairview Down Under at Ohio (9/7) vs. Ball State (9/14) at Tulane (10/5) at Louisiana Tech (10/19) at Southern Miss (10/26) vs. Rice (10/31) at Tulsa (11/30) A couple exceptions. If I can find a way to get the Georgia game, we'll have it too. If the Tulsa scheduled start winds up after 6:30pm, we will not have a watching party at Fairview Down Under for that one. (It'd be too late for the live music to wait to start.) Also, they don't have Time Warner Cable, so they won't be showing the UTEP and UTSA home games. Info on Fairview Down Under: http://fairviewdownunder.com/ I'm excited. Go Mean Green!!!3 points

I may be off base, but Admins opinions are something they should have on their own and not voiced through an official channel that can be construed as being supported or with the blessing of the website .. hard to cater the view of an unbiased website one way or another if you allow someone who is directly involved in the website to have opinions that can strongly sway fans one way or another. It hurts the business model long-term if a board swings too far one way or another and moderation is a key part in all of that.3 points

I really think this class will surprise us. Time to produce Coach.3 points

Cool. If he brings the scoring punch he had at Ole Miss we should start winning those 1 point games.3 points

Isn't it the coach's responsibility to put players in position to make plays? I know players have to execute, but Benford inherited a team that had won 18 games the season before, and were actually able to play together most of the season.2 points

Darnell Smith & Hilbert Jackson were solid contributors last year.2 points

As much as I abhor the Republicans of this State, I have a much stronger allegiance to Roberts Rules. This lady unfortunately wasted an opportunity to speak meaningfully on an issue that SB1 is on the wrong side of history on by initiating a diatribe.2 points

I would much rather be paired with Tulsa or LATech (I'm guessing they're going with So Miss?). And if this turns out to be true, I'm thinking that will cascade to all other sports and it would seem like C-USA leadership is trying to build up the UNT-UTSA rivalry.2 points

LeBron is one of the most amazing athletes to play professional sports in this country from a pure athletic standpoint, but the guy should not be a role model. At least not to the point of emulating this particular phrase. Kids say "I will be taking my talents to.." all the time in recruiting. It is terrible. Humility never goes out of style.2 points

Gotta give the coaching staff due credit for this. It's not always easy to single out prospects who can make it academically. A prospect and high school coach can tell you one thing, but.... Everyone, it seems, loses one or two because they didn't do their school work to finish high school in time or didn't do well enough on the SAT or ACT. To have 100% on board is a feather in the cap for McCarney & his crew. Excellent work, coaches!2 points

The is me venting, but this type of crap really turns me off. Kids think they are Lebron James nowadays. It's completely selfish and shows they're not a team player. I'm not sure I want those types on our team. (and breathe)2 points

Great idea...you know, because it is always better to form an opinion totally contrary to and what the individual involved says about a situation. BTW...never said anything about Tony being a close friend...just wondering where you get your info since you seem to think Tony is simply telling lies. I think the kid is actually pretty darn honest and heartfelt. I find it hard to believe that you think he lied to all the scouts and team personnel in those pre-draft interviews....and to folks who actually chatted with him while he was still on campus. Until otherwise proven, I will take him at his word.2 points

He predicts us to go 5-7. We beat Ball St. but lose to UTSA while also losing five of our last six games. We also lose at "S.Mill". South Millhouse? I can see predictions for 5-7 but the predictions of who we beat is weird. If we go 2-2 in non conference, we'll be at least 6-6.2 points

Hopefully we can keep the RS on him. That will give him 2 years of eligibility after Brock is gone.2 points

It's obvious Tony didn't give 100% all the time last year. I blame Coach Benford for not figuring out how to get the best out of a player who had no issues before Benford's arrival, was playing to be a lottery pick in the NBA draft, and was playing in a league where he was THE talent. At least you hold Benford somewhat accountable (in the above post, anyway), and I'm fine with that. My issues are with the few on here who will bad mouth the best player to come through here in decades and actually attended the university to protect a coach and an AD that didn't and need to be held accountable for last season (it's becoming quite obvious that this AD will not be held accountable by the BOR).2 points

Very excited about this upcoming season. If the team can stay healthy, than I think we have a good chance of putting together a successful (20+ wins) season.2 points

Does Dajon Williams redshirt or does Coach Mac put him in the fray this Fall? He was in Orangeblood's Top 100 list? Daa'um..... ______________________________________________________________ (from Harry's thread top of this page) QB - Dajon Williams - (6-3, 190, 4.6) Pflugerville, Texas (Connally HS) [June 20, 2012] The 6-3, 180-pound dual-threat quarterback picked UNT over Louisiana Tech and Montana...number 74 on the Orangebloods Texas top 100 list...A first team All-district 17-4A selection as a senior and a second-team selection as a junior...Williams attended UNT’s Junior Camp in Denton and later participated in the team’s satellite camp in Round Rock...threw for 1,977 yards with 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions last year... Agreed.we are two deep in the backcourt. I still wish we had landed another solid big. One post injury away from a bad season.1 point

I cant imagine Taylor not starting That said , I don't think it's going to really matter who starts. I think we see a lot of substitutions again , espically 1-31 point

I expect a few of those guys below him to climb that ladder quickly. . . . But they haven't proven anything on the field yet.1 point

One of my best friends who is a huge Texas Tech fan and more specifically a college football fan called me as soon as he read McCarney was our coach and said he guaranteed our team would get big. He said it was one of the formulas he used to become competitive in the Big 12. I guess he was correct. Our team is getting larger in size.1 point

Let's just be glad they made the move--or else we are still in the SBC. If we thought the old SBC was bad, imagine one without MUTS, F_Us, or Western Kentucky. Talk about being the low conference on the totem pole.1 point

Dutton Watson as a 6'3" 261 DB sounds like an intriguing prospect as well. Sounds like we can look forward to some major collisions in the secondary.1 point

I am not saying they don't have talent. Assuming half their students are female, there would be what, 5000 girls? On average most girls are not considered attractive in my opinion. Statistically speaking they would have far less attractive girls by numbers. Not to mention I walked around their campus recently and we discussed the lack of talent. Maybe just bad luck. Either way with a few beers you don't turn down nothing but your collar. Unless we are talking morbid obesity that is.1 point

NT also usually has excellent student attendance, which is why our average attendance will continue to go up every year as they graduate.1 point

Can you imagine what a MT fan would have said about our attendance counters if one showed up on the day Lance killed them?1 point
