  1. This is a quote from Hal Mumme, new assistant at SMU for this season... "We want to lead the nation in passing, that's for sure," Mumme said. "We want to win a whole bunch of games. What's the name of our conference? We want to win that." He doesn't even know the name of the AAC. For, at least, the first year neither will 90% of Americans/Texans. Nobody will open up the DMN looking for AAC standings...and they damn sure won't be looking for them in the Houston, Austin, Fort Worth etc papers. When ESPN advertises an epic AAC tilt the average viewer will say "FCS football?" We have to win this year for any of this to matter though. If we go bowling (or, dare I say it, win the league) from CUSA it will perk up far more ears. We need to take advantage of the lack of brand recognition that SMU and Houston will suffer through in the early going. *Cue Cougar Queen and his rant about how people outside of the Houston ghetto care about the Cougars.

  3. You shut yo mouth, everyone knows, including scouts, that Tony has no motor. Even the assistant coach with the pistons, who says he has a motor, says he has no motor.

  4. It costs to coach college football. It costs to recruit college football players. It costs to build and maintain failities for college football. Cost.Cost.Cost. That's all that matters here at UNT, folks. Nothing else...just cost. I mean, seriously, how could we ever be able to pay for recruiting costs when you are competing against UTSA and Texas State for recruits? Forget CUSA schools or AAC schools--we cannot even compete with most Sun Belt schools for recruiting costs. I'd love to know if its just simply due to lack of funds from the university--if it is, you'd be surprised at how much the alumni would help here. If you are afraid its going to cost the College of Music a scholarship or two, then why bother having the sport? After all, college football costs... I've posted it before, but I'll say it again. This thing has 5 years to turn around and to show me why it is going to be worth my time and energy, assuming we beat UTSA this year. I'm drawing my lines in the sand at two places--losing to UTSA this year without anyone being fired or if we still haven't had a winning season by 2017. I wish I had the strength of GrayEagle or PMG to stick with this for multiple decades longer, but I have given this place 22 years of following with very little payback in that timeframe. I'm tired of being around my friends and colleageus that went to every other school in this region of the country and having to be completely embarrassed when we get our asses handed to us by Western Kentucky or Florida International, while they are playing and beating schools people care about in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Apogee was supposed to change things around here. Instead, we play in a great stadium with a mindest and approach that just screams "Fouts-esque or FCS-like". The clock is ticking for me...

  5. I just saw something on Facebook stating that the Denton Animal Shelter was "extremely full" If you are in the market for a pet, check them out. You can be the best thing to happen to them. I've only had Duke for half a year, and I can't imagine not having him now. If you don't need a new family member, tell your friends. They may need a new one.

  6. And yet, 4 of these 5 schools have managed to find some recent success...

  7. I think most UNT athletic fans would agree with you. I think the UNT administration would not. We can't afford to just take the leftovers in DFW. We need to scratch and claw to find talent anywhere we can. That requires something better than a bottom 5 budget. That is embarrassing for a university our size. Why bother with facilities if you are not going pay the price to put decent talent in those facilities?

  9. Well damn, that explains a lot. Then again, we have an old-school coach so not too surprising. Take it into terms with home renovations. The more you put into a renovation, the more you get in return. Theoretically

  10. Sadly, no matter where you are, the animal shelters are frequently "extremely full". If you are looking for a pet, you can go to a shelter, or, go to your local PetsMart or PetCo. Most of these stores donate space to volunteer groups, who themselves are even more overwhelmed than the shelters with cats and dogs.

  11. Tony is very challenged to stay focused. He is spending excessive time on the flat part of his foot while waiting for the ball to bounce his way. If that does not change his opportunity will be brief.

  12. First of all, as my high school and college friends used to say "you can kiss my rusty ass". We did not get blocked from the SWC because of no drive. Because we hired Hayden Fry, found the money to pay him, and he almost immediately started knocking on the SWC's door. AND as I recall, this was the era where TCU was pretty much resting on their laurels and living off (as the British would say) "the dole" that the SWC provided them. This is TCU's record during that era when Hayden Fry was hired by NT.... 1978 2-9 1977 2-9 1976 0-11 1975 1-10 1974 1-10 1973 3-8 AND I seem to recall that one of those losses during that era was to UTA. TCU's response to that loss.....they cancelled the rest of the series. Meanwhile, one of our wins during that era was a 28-0 butt kicking of Houston in 1975, who went on to win the SWC in 76. Meanwhile TCU avoided playing North Texas during that era. If there was a lack of drive, it was from our previous administration(s) that only wanted us to be the "best little teachers' college in the southwest". Which we were BTW. The same administration didn't believe in having a mean green club or even an endowment for that matter. We were blocked by some of the SWC members from entering during that era, and I suspect that at least one of them was a certain school resting on their laurels. Did I mention that you can kiss my rusty ass?

  14. It still amazes me at how many other Big XII and SEC schools have trolls on this website that scoreboard our program...oh wait, its just one, the new money of the BC$, Texas Christian University. That's the ultimate paradox, since TCU is known synonymously with Ft Worth's old money. Old money never flaunts, because they don't have to. New money always has to talk, though, usually because they know it can all vanish in a second. Doesn't that describe TCU in a nutshell--worked super hard to achieve greatness and get rewarded by taking A&M's place in the Big XII--only to still be a Texas bolt away from being back in the MWC... You'd better enjoy Lubbock, Austin, Norman, Stillwater, Lawrence, Manhattan, Morgantown, and Ames while you can. Because you and your Waco mates might just find yourselves playing games (again for you) in outposts like Albuquerque, Ft. Collins, Laramie, Boise, and San Jose.

  21. This is disgusting. For a school this size in an area like we are to have a recruiting budget this low makes me really sick. Almost makes you just give up. Fighting an uphill battle. But, I mean, when people say "UNT sucks at football", statistics like this prove that we do. Look at that company. Terrible academic schools, small, in small cities excluding Northern Illinois. Tired of this crap. While I realize it's about who you recruit not how much you spend in recruiting, our recruiting sucks, too, which makes it painful.

  23. I wonder where S. Mississippi was rated by USA at the start of last season. I would bet around the same spot. Not saying La. Tech will suffer the same fate as USM, but they face a lot of the same challenges that USM did last year (a huge loss of seniors to graduation plus a new coach). Edit: Tried to google it, but only find this years list, which had USM at #82, despite a winless 2012. Pretty safe to say that this list has a lot to do with reputation.

  28. It's one game, Andrew, stop salivating. Rebounds are where Tony is going to have rest his hope of playing time with the Pistons. He is going to have to learn he can't block everything at this level and stay on the floor sometimes. 8 rebounds in 2 quarters of play will get him noticed. Unfortunately, so will the foul trouble in the sane period of time.

  30. Old fool, maybe---but senile? That's hitting below my sansebelt and polyester slacks pulled up to my belly button, Froggie Guy. ____________________________________ Addendum To Froggie-Style: TCU has reached its destination...now leave us alone and allow us to enjoy our journey; of which sometimes such journeys are as exciting and meaningful as those who've finally reached their destination of choice. I also wonder how soon the squirming would begin in Cowtown when UT and OU see the Aggies success removed from the present Big 12 underlings and bail out--Aggie Style)? Nothing in the NCAA is set in concrete, Froggie Guy--yall should know that more than anyone as when yall got jump-kicked out of the Southwest Conference and were not given a forwarding address to the (then) new Big 12.................again....nothing is set in concrete in today's NCAA. And 2 just for you: Pride cometh before destruction or....boast not lest ye fall? Ol' blue eyes also said it best...riding high in April--shot down in May? (Cognitive skills not as sharp as they used to be but after all, I'm a senile old fool, right, Froggie Guy? ___________________________________ And this from Silver E's research department: TCU: The F.A. "Dry" Years? 1978......2-9 1977 .....2-9 1 1976..... 0-11 1975..... 1-10 1974 .....1-10 1973..... 3-8 Jumpin' Jehosophats! No wonder yall wouldn't play North Texas in the 70's (or the 50's and 60's for that matter). In the spirit of true intercollegiate competition TCU would only schedule North Texas when we were in a losing mode--so that mean't for well over 3 decades of the NCAA's modern era TCU wouldn't think of scheduling the Mean Green. ? ? ? ? During that span of decades, had they only played us just 20 times wouldn't we have added close to 20 "W's" to our all time series with the HornyToads? Here you go, Froggie Guy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOGWbzUM-y8

  33. Bravo! Great job, CW ! I never-ever get tired reading about my college alma mater--I really don't. We have one heckuva' interesting most diverse school that has had more than its share of very interesting people who count themselves as graduates of UNT; in fact, many of whom are on this very forum. GMG!

  39. Great write up. I just read the whole thing including comments. Once I started, I couldn't stop. Side note: I still have the k-State game on the DVR and watch it from time to time. When broadcasted locally, we missed the first couple series due to the SMU aTm game going long. The article has a link to the first half of that game from the beginning. Great to watch the game starting with NT holding the Wildcats to a 3 and out.
