I saw a LOT of people donating. The morons who showed up with arms full of drinks and fast food, not so much. Fireworks looked good. But they looked even better with Apogee underneath them! This post has been promoted to an article10 points

Hey guys. So as I mentioned a few months ago, I took up the call to represent our alma mater in the 132+ Project on /r/CFB, which is detailing every single division 1 college football school in the nation during the offseason. Today was our turn and I just submitted my post ten minutes ago. Have a gander! I made sure to make it a comprehensive doozy. http://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/1how8l/132_teams_in_132_days_north_texas_mean_green/ This post has been promoted to an article9 points

I watched the Fireworks from the Club Level last night. I have been going to see 4th of July activities for many years at many locations and hands down this was the best one I have attended! Thank you to the Kiwanis Club and the Athletic Department for a great night!4 points

Or, since we're in the land of make believe, would you rather have 5-7 with DT because (just like last season) he throws as many picks as TD's or 7-5 with BB because he made multiple rookie mistakes but also allowed us to out score several teams who had to play honest at the line of scrimmage?4 points

that national anthem WAS awful...i was just standing there stunned...and then i was even more stunned when more than 50% of the crowd started applauding I was given a green parking pass along with my club tickets, both of which were specifically marked for tonight's event. I was under the impression that the green lots were supposed to be reserved for season ticket holders as well, but since you specify "at the end", I'm assuming they kept the lots reserved originally. If you didn't get there in plenty of time to claim your spot, then that's on you4 points
-
You do realize that having a green pass had absolutely no bearing on primary parking around Apogee today, right? Like, it shouldn't. It didn't. And we're all better for it. ----- The real issue here folks was WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT PUNK ROCK ABOMINATION OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM THAT THEY PLAYED BEFORE THE FIREWORKS STARTED?!?! It was despicable.4 points

I have seen several offer the argument for Thompson over Berglund due to the fact that Thompson will make less mistakes because he has more experience at this level. Yes, I can't argue the fact he has more experience, but can one really say his ability to not make mistakes wins him the job??? I have never understood this argument. It's almost as shaky as the "great leader" argument, or the "poor receiver" argument. I have seen countless overthrows (mistake), under throws (mistake), and when he was allowed to throw the ball...he threw picks (mistake)! In matter of fact, as many as he did TDs. While I'm at it...so they are all on one post...lets dispel the other two Thompson apologist excuses...a team must have great leaders to be successful, but if the QB is a great leader but can't deliver the ball ROUTINELY he isn't going to win games. I don't care if he is getting paid to deliver leadership seminars, the QB has to be able to throw the damn football!!! As far as having "poor receivers" I'm calling BS on this too. One can't argue that we had the greatest receiving weapons in the land, but they got open enough to get the job done. I can't remember how many times they had to leave their feet to catch the ball, or simply had the ball delivered in the dirt or the bleachers. I'm not bagging on Thompson as a person, team leader, or anything of that nature, but I am tired of people trying to make me feel comfortable about him playing QB for my team. On a strictly performance based evaluation, all other crap aside, he is not a good, or even average college QB. We don't know exactly what we have with Berglund, but I know what we have in Thompson, and it isn't good. I will go out on a limb and say Berglund can't be worse.3 points

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see both qbs in the first half of the Idaho game, especially if Berglund does well in fall camp. As for the concern that Idaho makes DT look good while playing against a bad team, I urge you to see what happened last year against Texas Southern.3 points

I would have hoped that the athletic department would have coordinated with the Kiwanis to delay the grand finale while they showed a preview video for the up coming season. With this announcement. "And now folks, we pause just before the grand finale to show you what is in store for Mean Green fans at Apogee this fall....we look forward to seeing you all back here on Aug 31st"3 points

EDIT: no politics. Leave the Star Spangled Banner alone! If all these soloist and groups are going to embellish or be creative with something musically, do it with bubble gum rock and roll music....not our national anthem. GMG!3 points

And this brings us to the most tired, weakest, apologist excuse, "Thompson plays the best in practice". Anyone care to tell me what our practice record was last year? How about OU's? Where do I find that on ESPN.com? Or Dave Campbell's? That's right, they don't exist! There's a name for a QB who produces great in practice...scout team QB. I will GLADLY take the risk that BB makes mistakes if it means we also have the chance of him bringing a dimension to the position that we haven't seen. Anyone remember Riley Dodge? We still chronicle every what the kid has for dinner each Thursday because he was such a great "competitor". Nevermind that he made multiple mistakes each game, he was able to run, escape the rush and overall give us a fighting chance. I'll take that again, this time in a D1 sized body.3 points

The last words through the PA following the fireworks show were from Hank saying something like "Now we'll see you all back here on August 31st when we vandalize Idaho!"2 points

I realize that with careful planning, you can ultimately save money flying a la carte like this, but lord it pisses me off to get dinged at every corner. I'd much, much rather just pay one fee, go to the freaking airport, and fly to my destination. The extra $50-$100 is worth the lack of headache to me.2 points

I'm fine with a few overzealous mistakes early on. As long as Berglund is making plays and making our offense more dynamic, as well as showing improvement over the course of the year. Berglund has 3 years left. When DT was named the opening starter in 2011, he had 3 years of eligibility left. In that time he hasn't progressed enough and, as someone has said, it's hard to tell at times that he's the experienced guy with 20+ starts under his belt. I know we haven't seen much, but Berglund will make our offense more dynamic and hard to stop immediately. I'm fine with a few rookie mistakes but after having the 105th scoring offense in the country I think we need more playmaking ability.2 points

Hope everyone had a great and safe holiday. It was a memorable one for us this year, being only a couple of miles from Pearl Harbor where so much was sacrificed for our freedom. Rick2 points

Double yippie ki yay (or however Bruce Willis says that in his movies). Me'thinks our guys over in athletics are doing this CUSA introduction to thousands of the populous of Greater Denton with the right touch. Build on this kind of fervor and we'll need that stadium expansion sooner than later. GMG!2 points

Leadership is borne of accomplishment. If you do not deliver, you will never really be the leader...even if you at the 'leader' position of quarterback.2 points

Stacy, do you have a website for the team yet? I would be willing to bet that someone would put one together for you free of charge if you can get permission to have it hosted on the school server. It could have the bios and picks of players, coaches, etc.. I would like to start getting acquainted with the names and faces of the players and the coaches. By the way, a big group of fans are going to a happy hour in New Orleans before the official dinner on Monday. Are you making the trek to the Big Easy? We would love to meet the newest member of the North Texas family and hear some of your plans! Interested? http://www.fritzelsjazz.com/NTPAGe.htm Or pasted: Fritzel's is the Official Bourbon Street Watering Hole of the University of North Texas MEAN GREEN FOOTBALL TEAM and its terrific Texas fans! Congratulations Coach Dickey, on the crown, and on being named Conference Coach of the Year for the second straight season! You guys played as hard as one of our trumpet players! Fritzel's welcomes all North Texas fans and friends GO MEAN GREEN. . . BEAT THOSE BEARCATS! We're working up a special drink called the MEAN GREEN PUNCH, just like the one you're going to deliver to Cincy on Tuesday night! After the game, come watch a replay of the victory on our big screen TV with us, and have a MEAN GREEN PUNCH of your own! Click the Golden Trumpet to get a map of the quarter showing where Fritzel's is located. Fritzel's Jazz Pub is located in the center of the French Quarter in New Orleans, at 733 Bourbon Street. That pic would make many of our UNT's version of a Pulitzer photo prize (so to speak). WOW! Wonder what our 2 or 3 chief UNT critics would say about that pic? Maybe....."Look how dark the clouds are in the background, just shows how dark the school's agenda has been since 1890?"1 point

We donated and paid for parking. Great night for our family. My three and four year old loved it. We even had bits of exploded fireworks blowing on us in the wingzone. My kids thought that was cool. Something to write the date on and frame to remember the night.1 point

First of all, as my high school and college friends used to say "you can kiss my rusty ass". We did not get blocked from the SWC because of no drive. Because we hired Hayden Fry, found the money to pay him, and he almost immediately started knocking on the SWC's door. AND as I recall, this was the era where TCU was pretty much resting on their laurels and living off (as the British would say) "the dole" that the SWC provided them. This is TCU's record during that era when Hayden Fry was hired by NT.... 1978 2-9 1977 2-9 1976 0-11 1975 1-10 1974 1-10 1973 3-8 AND I seem to recall that one of those losses during that era was to UTA. TCU's response to that loss.....they cancelled the rest of the series. Meanwhile, one of our wins during that era was a 28-0 butt kicking of Houston in 1975, who went on to win the SWC in 76. Meanwhile TCU avoided playing North Texas during that era. If there was a lack of drive, it was from our previous administration(s) that only wanted us to be the "best little teachers' college in the southwest". Which we were BTW. The same administration didn't believe in having a mean green club or even an endowment for that matter. We were blocked by some of the SWC members from entering during that era, and I suspect that at least one of them was a certain school resting on their laurels. Did I mention that you can kiss my rusty ass?1 point

That's funny coming from a fan of a team that got their tails kicked in a weak Big 12. Congrats on that by the way. It's too bad the mainstream media doesn't even care about TCU now that y'all are in a Power 5 conference. hah1 point

Absolutely. Leadership by example is crucial in sports, especially at a position like QB.1 point

If North Texas had had a Terry Bradshaw type of talent (not saying we do now) who (in a stroke of major luck and a most rare smile from Lady Luck) would have transferred to UNT would we have analyzed, de-analyzed, and di-sected him completely all but pronouncing him unfit to play for us before he even took one varsity snap of the ball? I can't wait till August 31'st so we can start getting some answers to all our questions and themes of much speculation over here. GMG!1 point

But would he make anymore than Thompson does now? That's my point. It's not like Thompson is an all-conference senior. Hell, I would argue he hardly plays like you would expect given his experience. What additional mistakes do people expect Berglund to make that Thompson doesn't already make?1 point

I would think they passed us when they beat us by what 50 points two years ago and then the following season built a nice new basketball stadium to draw recruits. Still we oneup them confrenee wise but they do not have to focus on football like we do.... Their main focus is basketball so it is easier to focus resources. Still we need to pick our game up going into next year.1 point

I wouldn't say Tech was way down the times we beat them. . . . Although they later became better than they had ever been under Leach. But when we beat them in '99, they were 6-5 with a win over OU. When we beat them in '97, they were 6-5 with a dominating win over UT. Those were at some pretty decent Tech teams.1 point
