Dang that just sounds fantastic! Having watched my Mean Green go from battles against Abilene Christian and Stephen F Austin in the Southland, to the Big West, to the Sun Belt, to CUSA - It has been a wild ride and the fun is only beginning! "Hello Conference USA. We are North Texas and we are here to kick some...:)" GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!6 points

And if anyone can fail to follow the flow of a thread and then attempt to talk down to others based on this failure...KRAM's your guy. Oh, and I didn't even need to -1 you...that's how widespread the understanding of your irrelevance is. That you fell flat on your face running to argue alongside a guy who wouldn't want to partner with you to cure cancer simply ices the cake.6 points

I hope they put up the old stats somewhere. That is always a treasure trove when trying to refer back to something that happened maybe 10 years ago (like when we had our last winning season).3 points

Typical BR brilliant reporting. AAC is a collection of leftover schools and some other conference may take some of their members so the rest will fall back into CUSA. Hasn't the AAC already had schools taken? And what happened? They took schools from CUSA, not the other way around. And CUSA is just as much a collection of leftovers that have little in common. You have schools with long histories. You have schools that have never played a single down of FBS level football. You have schools that have been ranked recently. You have schools that are perennial bottom feeders. You have schools from FBS, FCS, CUSA, Sunbelt, WAC, etc.3 points

It's not that we need another deep threat at WR. What we need is three or four more WRs who can run routes correctly, recognize coverages, and get open...consistently.3 points

Happy C-USA Day, Mean Green! Both of our fan bases have waited a long time for this moment going back to when UTEP stole that final C-USA spot about 8-9 years ago. As a La Tech fan, I am honored to share a conference with North Texas and all the other members. (But I can't speak for HogDawg. lol) I also want to mention that the GMG admin do a great job with this site. Cheers3 points

What are your opinions on the new site thanks to the switch to CBS Sports College Network? Also, wondering if this will extremely help improve streaming Mean Green games. Looks like they're calling it "all-access" now. http://www.meangreensports.com (as if you need the link)2 points

With as many people on here who have reached out with donations and prayers over the past year or so, I guess an update is deserved. Brian is now in hospice care. When it came back, it came back really really hard. Please if you've ever prayed for him, pray now for peace. Please also pray that no one else ever has to go through what my best friend Brian and his fiance Nicole are at the end of right now. Thank you all so much for everything you've done for him.2 points

NT Daily writer moonlighting with a blog from some TCU dudes needing traffic vs. UNT90. It's a tough matchup I wouldn't want to handicap, but I could see how the large number of skins of the wall of both the writer and 90 could be pretty awe-worthy to you.2 points

I would expand on twitter and just include all social media. Facebook is just as important. UNT also needs a rep to update the scout and rivals pages. recruits google thier names and they look for articles. Schools will have beat writers contacting recruits and asking for updates about the recruiting process. Twitter and Facebook is used a lot and that is a big area that UNT has to improve on. I doubt if Mac is telling his staff they cannot use this. I think it is just lack of experience and not keeping up with the times. The head coach is not going to be doing that kind of contact. It will be the position coaches, GAs, scout reps, 247 reps, rivals reps, etc that are hitting the recruits up on social media. Before the games, telling them good luck. After the game to see how it went. There should be some contact at least twice per week. Even during no contact periods, social media is being used. Fans also create lots if hype for the team on social media. It shows you have a great fan base. Theres other things that can be improved on too. Uniforms are horrible. Especially the helmet. Improve the helmet the rest may be acceptable. Gameday experience on visits need improvement. With all this being said, in order to compete with TCU, SMU, Tech, UH, Baylor, etc for three star recruits, nothing will help more thsn winning 6 or more games. I feel improving social media, uniforms, etc will only make a difference against the smaller schools like UTSA, TX state, La Tech, Rice etc.2 points

Not sure if uniforms or twitter would help. I do think Chico is more of a motivational personality. It seemed that Chico had the players believing in themselves and that seems to be lacking currently.2 points

Not to be argumentative, but slaves didn't build the pyramids. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/egypt/6962860/Pyramids-not-built-by-slaves.html And, more to the point of the "founding fathers" and their greatness, shouldn't the question be asked "why did it take them ANY years to do away with a practice that they (according to your argument) clearly saw as wrong?" If they had tousands of years of evidence to support their position why not show the moral fortitude to do away with it upon ratification? I mean, it's not like they were starting a brand new nation where they could set the precedent.2 points

I see where you're trying to go with this argument but it ignores one key thing...the "service providers" aren't on a top shelf level. If you go to McDonald's and it is manned by McDonald's level employees there is no problem. If, on the other hand, you go to a 5* restaurant and see that same fry cook in the kitchen you can't be asked, realistically, to pay those "top shelf" prices for the food. Half of what makes the food worth the high price is the ingredients...the other half is the preparation and the service. Apogee is a top shelf ingredient. The Super Pit is a top shelf ingredient. We simply have too few top shelf chefs and servers.1 point

Mac's first year, we had the #102 class in the nation according to Rivals. In 2012, we had the #99 class. In this last class, we were tied for #117. For the 2014 class, Rivals has ranked the top 109 teams . . . and we're not one of them. If that's not lackluster, what is?1 point

I have been calling Chick-Fil-A Homophobic chicken for months. It has not stopped me from eating there. I think gay people should be able to get married and have all the rights of a man and women who are married. I also believe many of the people who own large companies are old, white, and republican. So, they probably are against gay marriage. If I let their stance on the subject stop me from eating or going to a business they own then I would not leave my house too much, and I would have to cook all the time. They have the right to believe what they want and so do I. Of course if they tried to push their ideals on too me I would have to go ape shit on them. P.S. GO MEAN GREEN!1 point

"Last season, ODU hosted Duquesne and Campbell. Moving to FBS has allowed the Monarchs to schedule North Carolina State (2015) and Virginia Tech (2018) at Foreman Field. A year ago, it was laughable to think ODU would host an ACC football opponent. The school is attempting to bring North Carolina and Virginia, as well as Navy and East Carolina, to Norfolk, too." So this means they'll have to suffer atrocious schedules in the other years, right?1 point

Short answer: no. The Pistons have 2 very good big men in Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond. However, with Maxiell(their 3rd big) being a FA, and the fact that the Pistons would sacrifice Charlie Villanueva and his terrible contract to the basketball gods if they could, there is a chance that he could be the first big guy off the bench. If all goes to well, I think their plan is to have a 3-man rotation with Monroe, Drummond, and Tony(if not this year, then next). Kind of like the Lakers when they had Pau, Bynum, and Odom. Tony can play PF with Monroe sliding over to C, or he can play with Drummond. Free Agency starts soon so we'll see if they go after a big guy.1 point

This draft had a record 13 international taken , almost half of all the 1st round picks. NBA teams only has 12 active roster spots with 3 inactive spots. That leaves only 15 spots per team , 450 total players in the entire NBA. Not every team has immediate openings for two or more draft picks every year, so they prefer to take a young, foreign player. They can let this player improve his skills for a few years, and then eventually bring him over to the States to play.. It is like having a farm system overseas. 2nd round was disappointing , but it's not the end of the world. Tony is in a good situation with Detroit. He will have every chance to make the team & get serious playing time. Certainly will not be easy , but with hard work it's very attainable. Maybe sliding down will light a fire under him. He's never had to play with a chip on his shoulder and has been able to get by on athletism. He gets to get away from family, friends & any other distractions in Detroit. His focus can be (should be) soley on Basketball. I think he can have a successful career and ill certainly be rooting for him. 1 of my all time favorite NBA players was also drafted 37th overall , Nick Van Exel. He went on to pretty good carrer I think it's time for everyone to move on from bashing either Mitchell or Benford. Critism was valid , but It's in the past. Nobody liked what took place last season. Players, coaches , administration all played a role in a very disappointing season. All would would say they failed and all would do things different. Time to move forward. Support Mitchell in his quest for stardum & support the current players & coaches as they try to get back on the winning track.1 point

I hate to be "that guy" but I have a simple question that will more than likely involve a lot of people voting me down. Has any one of you actually had to coach collegiately in any sport? What about played a sport in college within the last 10 years or so? Things have changed radically, both within the NCAA, the coaching enviroment and socially that have put a major twist on how a coach can "coach". Coaching men's lacrosse at the college level was one of the hardest things I have ever done and most of those difficulties were driven by the players and not by the an abject lack of talent on a roster. If you combine the two, things get even worse. Throw in a healthy dose of restrictions of when, what, where, and, how you can interact, practice, or discipline a player and it makes coaching a much harder job than it really could be and a job I will probably not every pursue again. It is not anywhere as easy or simple to "motivate" a player as people imply. It is not like it was in many people's high school days where the coach could demand that you play or you sit or I run you to death or punish you just because I am the all powerful coach and my word is law and I answer to no one. There are pretty lengthy restrictions on what a coach can or can't get away with and beyond that there is little that a coach can do long term to force someone to give 100% effort all the time. Think about your motivations or actions or mindset as a Freshman in college. How did you reacted to authority figures, how you were so sure that they just don't "get it" or that they "just don't care" about what you want. How do you coach and more importantly motivate those guys all the time? It is a true art form, and the real secret is that much of that motivation comes from within. There are certain tasks or fostered environments or punishments or psychological games that a coach can use on a player, but when it all comes down to it, it is the player that provides the motivation. The coach can help strengthen the resolve, can help temper that motivation into excellence, help find something to be the fire to drive you forward, but the coach can't be your sole source of motivation. A coach can only pick you when you are down, can only try and help the player to understand that they need to dig deep within and find it within themselves a source of personal motivation. Some individuals use pride, some use hate, some have a lofty goal, or even an undeniable will to be the absolute best, but none use their coach as their sole source of motivation. Having a coach "force" you to be motivated is unsustainable and eventually the message is lost. To state it as anything other than "the long term motivation comes from within and is the responsibility of the player" is a massive disservice to all athletes. The will and drive to win or improve or to just work hard comes from within and it is something as an individual you have to address everyday. If you have to have a coach constantly push you, constantly monitor you, constantly makes sure that you are giving your all, then when people recognize that is in fact the case they are well within their right to question your drive or motivation. That is life. That fact is true in any discipline, any business, and to think that it does not apply to athletics is asinine. If you mentor at work has to constantly ride you to provide your best work, is it a bad thing when other departments question your motivation if you desire to transfer to their department? A big part of this is that some players have more talent than others. Welcome to the real world. Some have unworldly gifts that make any game easy to grasp and provide such an athletic advantage that they can do much more than their teammates with much less effort. The problem with those types of gifts is that after a while it is easy for a player to develop apathy. Motivation can be hard to sustain because there is nothing to set your sights on in the near term that requires you to put in greater effort. With no unscalable mountain in the foreground and the titanic dreams of being an all-time great as a professional seeming so far away, it is fairly evident the TM sometimes lost his focus and sometimes did not put forth the effort he should. There is no real point in denying it and there is also no real need to justify why it did or did not happen. Kids are kids and what he went through last year hopefully was a learning experience for him that he can use the rest of his life. Lets not forget that we are talking about young adults that are still finding themselves in life, much less are completely sure in their views and personal identities. Hopefully this now provides Tony with a constant "thing" to keep his motivation up and always going. Internal motivation is built in layers. Many have used the "jilted lover as a 2nd rounder" view as motivation to prove themselves that all 30 teams made a mistake. Some have used the fact that they are finally not the best player on the bus or the most gifted in the arena. Some have used their kids, spouses or even a personal relationship fostered with their coach or player or an influential mentor. Many have just refused to motivate themselves and ave seen their prodigious talents wasted. It is all up to TM and I have faith that he will do well. People confuse the fact that many players used their love or respect or admiration for the previous staff as part of their individual motivation. That is radically different than to say that the former staff motivated the players and this one did not. Those things the players used with JJ, those relationships, are hard to build and take time and are generally started early on in their recruitment process. With JJ's departure and with many players wanting a familiar face in Forrest, Benford was not necessarily going to instantly provide those feelings that the players used as motivation with JJ. That is completely different than to state that this staff did not try to motivate them. They tried, and it looks like sometimes it failed to reach the players. I am not sure that the players ever trusted Benford last year and therefore some lacked one of the former cornerstones they used for their individual motivation. The question really falls to, did the new staff not push the right buttons or did the players just did not want to listen? Both are correctable and only one requires a new coach. Something else to be mentioned is that most of the motivation that is not provided from within the individual is generally provided by and driven from the culture of the team. The coach can generally manipulate the culture of the team much easier than you can manipulate the players' individual desires or motivations. The tight-knit group that comes from being teammates and being around each other all the time, the cohesion it provides, is a much greater motivator than any coach. The great teams monitor their own, and police their actions among themselves to try and keep everyone on task and use each other and their common bond as motivation. I would like to think that the culture of the team did not radically change from JJ to Benford. The roster for the most part had many of the key faces. So what happened to the internal level of motivation provided by the teammates?1 point

Hmm, my wife's family is from Michigan and we've been talking about visiting at some point. If he stays there and ends up seeing decent playing time, maybe we could take in a game when we go.
