  1. ran a scintillating 49.32 (school record) to grab 3rd place at the NCAA's. It was live on ESPNU just moments ago. Pretty cool to see the North Texas getting some good air time GO Mean Green Congrats Steven and Coach Sheffield

  5. I wanted to pick you guys brain about Tony Mitchell. I am an OKC Thunder fan and the Thunder currently don't have a guy that can come close to defending Lebron. Nobody is going to shut Lebron down but Paul George and Khawi Leonard have done a very nice job of at least making him work for his points. The Thunder have never come close to that. Thabo is too light to guard him, he gets KD in foul trouble and Ibaka isn't mobile enough. Is Tony Mitchell a guy that could potentially do what Leonard and George has done? His highlights are mostly of him dunking. Could he be a potential defensive stopper in the NBA and a stretch 4 that could hit open 3's and rebound? A lot of people are concerned with last season and from what I've seen it mostly had to do with 2 key teammates getting injured and Mitchell getting swarmed. Is that correct? I would like to hear what you guys think about Mitchell because I'm sure you guys have watched him more than anyone. Thanks in advance!

  7. He's not getting six years. If he turns in a season with 4 wins or less, it won't just be McCarney on the hot seat next year but Rick Villarreal as well. If the Mean Green take a big step back and finish with 1 or 2 wins, it will be very difficult to justify not making a change after this season. I see the job secruity of McCarney and the AD going in tandem. Villarreal made one of the worst hires in college football history with Todd Dodge and it decimated the program. He brings in a veteran coach with experience in Dan McCarney. If it doesn't work out, I don't see our current AD getting a chance to hire another head coach.

  9. Akol was listed at 6'10 so he was an inch taller than Mitchell. There are PF that are much bigger in the NBA than Akol.

  12. To say that there's greater anticipation or interest this year compared to Dodge's first season seems silly. The combination of unknown, hope, new unis, and more recent program success definitely puts that season above this one. Yes, the conference move is exciting but it's hard for that alone to excite when there's little reason to think there will be immediate success.

  13. 1. I think I'm clearly on-record as a Berglund supporter, but Thompson should improve (at least somewhat) over this offseason. How much will he improve? We won't know until Idaho. If he's not improved enough, Berglund can step in. 2. I don't know that we really needed an upgrade at RB. But Pegram may surprise. I think we may be a little spoiled with our run of 12 years of awesome backs from Ja'Quay - Lance. 3. No real retort here. If Abbe is gone for good, and I kinda hope he is, then the D-Line will basically hang on the shoulders of SirCalvin's progress over this offseason... unless there's some sleeper that will come up to man the nose. I like our other D-Linemen (Boutwell, Sarge, Bellazin, Lincoln, etc...) But just looking at the team from the sidelines, this certainly appears to be the weak spot. And D-Line is definitely not a good place to have a weak spot. 4. I dunno man. At least this season it certainly isnt. After Tulsa/ECU bail, maybe. Tulsa/ECU would probably wipe the floor with anyone in the Belt. 5. This season must be the crux. 5-7 should be the minimum for him to keep his job, I think (Idaho & UTSA are must-wins). Any worse and it may be time for Rick to hit up the Rolodex. 6. Yep. That's what it's looking like.

  14. I completely agree, just a little sarcasm to be thrown around. Hopefully this is all irrelevant though, because McCarney will take us to the promise land.

  15. On the other hand, why would any coach want a player on his team that really didn't want to be there? And as to the timing of this official announcement. I think the athletic dept is trying to spread out over the summer months what little good news they have to potential ticket buyers who have yet to make a commitment. I think that this announcement, plus the pep talk e-mail letter that I got from coach Mac a week or so ago, might be an indication that ticket sales are not going as well as they hoped.

  16. More interest than anticipation. I don't think that DT is capable of a lot better showing than we've seen. If he remains the starter, we'll be mediocre. Ditto for McNulty, except that his upside might be a little more promising since he is more mobile. But, if Berglund is hitting on all cylinders then this could be a fun season. Regardless of who is quarterback, we'll have to develop defensive linemen (especially tackles) if we have very much success. If that happens, and that's a very big if, the defense may be at, or near, the best in CUSA.

  17. Don't kid yourself. We need a "get closer to the end of the contract so we don't have to pay off the remaining if we fire him" to find out. It's what we do.

  18. Holy Crap....never seen this video before. Tony gets dunked on by Phil Pressey. You can't even be mad at that, that's just awesome.

  19. Honestly, I agree with you. The Mean Green should be favored in this game, but I don't expect a blowout. We don't really have the type of offense that's built to blow most teams out. The Texas Southern game last season is an example of this. UTSA is far better than Texas Southern...and better coached.

  20. I love the sentence "The proof is in the pudding, though, and another step back this year could cost him his job. Call it possible but unlikely." We'd like to think we would dump him if things didn't turn around, but we need a thorough 6 years to find out...

Google, Facebook, or whatever Site you visit tracking your browsing for ad purposes, as invasive as it is, is not the same thing as a governing body tracking what sites you visit, viewing private chat logs, viewing your emails, and looking at your pictures. I have NO problem tracking a potential suspect. But get a damn warrant. If they need help, they have classes on the proper way to write warrants.

  24. ESPNU....they're also gonna reshow it tomorrow morning before they carry live coverage of Day Four from the meet. For that matter, they'll probably put up the archive on ESPN360, but as of now only Day 2 is up.

  26. You are right... I just don't see Thompson being he guy. I know what has been said about spring ball, but you don't change to s mobile QB offense if you are counting on Thompson to lead it

  32. This is a 3-4 win team at the most especially with Derek Thompson still running the show. He's an average FBS quarterback at best. Outside of Brelan Chancellor and maybe Carlos Harris, there's not a lot of big play targets in the passing game. I like Pegram and Byrd but both could be facing a lot of 8 and 9 man fronts. The Mean Green ranked 103rd in red zone offense last year. That number has to get better. Defensively, we're woefully soft up front and the loss of Richard Abbe doesn' help. I see wins against Idaho, UTSA, UTEP, and possibly Tulane. Look for Brock Berglund to be named the starting quarterback by the MTSU game.

  33. Really a BLOWOUT win? So you think were just going to lay down and play dead? I got news for you bro you might win but not in a blowout.

  34. 4-8 we are not much better than last year and I believe DT is too inconsistent to take us any higher. How in hell do you get a -1 when giving ur prediction in a prediction thread?

  35. We might know a little more about his on ball defense if he'd ever been able to play anything but center here. I don't think people on here are going to recognize the player they see at the next level.

  36. Texas State will follow a very similar trail in the SBC that we did. The SBC teams are still improving each year and Texas State's fans won't care one bit about playing any of them. ULM, ULL, Arky State, and Troy are all waaayyyy ahead of them right now. They will still get some in-state games on the road against the Big 12 teams, but I doubt they will see any CUSA school in this state on their schedule anytime soon. UTSA will look down their noses at TSU-SM if they get their program off to a good start. It will be very SMU-UNT, La Tech-ULM, esque. I think Franchione is a very good coach and I believe he will do fine at Texas State, but I don't see any Texas schools offering them any help by shceduling them, especially in San Marcos. Welcome to our previous world, Bobcats...you'll find that it is not easy to get fans excited about playing SBC teams, especially those in the Eastern parts of their conference.

  39. This. MWC is better than every conference, not in the AQ, and in some years, it has been better than the ACC. I'm not sure that it won't be better than the Big XII this year. The MWC's bottom teams are terrible, but their top teams are usually very good. I still believe that BYU will make their way back into that league in the next few years and that they will add teams in Texas, probably upwards of three teams. I suspect that UTEP, especially if they can get UH and SMU to go with them, will be your next move in the conference realignment game. That AAC is just a trainwreck waiting to happen and 16 team conferences will soon become the norm. IF SMU wants to stay with their private friends and Eastern schools in the AAC, then the MWC will have to look hard at either UNT or UTSA. My guess is that by then, UTSA will either be the clear choice to invite or to ignore. We deserve to be where we are in the FBS pecking order. The MWC would have gladly taken us if we had done anything since Dickey's run ended in 2004, especiallya s a our hoops team was getting stronger. Now, we offer them nothing at all. And, frankly, if SMU hadn't moved to the AAC, we would be stuck in the SBC still, so I suppose it could've been worse. But we have no one to blame but ourselves now--the university's cultural view of football has been too tough to defeat; its what the "family" has wanted.

  40. Or even out the door with this talk of more additions.

  41. The MWC is hardly the same as CUSA. They didn't go desperate and invite FCS teams to join their conference. They waited and got Boise St. back. They are 4 times the basketball conference than the new CUSA. They are 3 times the football conference. MWC enabled TCU to make the move to the club. CUSA has done that for no one. They are hardly the same.

  42. If the MWC approached UNT, we would/should be gone in a heartbeat. "We've already gone West before and blah, blah, blah". This MWC is not the same as the Big West. Simple facts: The BCS busters consistently come out of the MWC The MWC network payout is larger The MWC is viewed by just about everyone as the best conference not in the "gang of 5". The MWC is stable. But, that invite has not come, and we are in C-USA. I'm very excited about that.

  43. Right, because why would we ever want to actually move up the college football food chain? We should just be happy being the 11 or 12th best program in Texas. We should just thank our lucky stars that CUSA was charitable enough to include us with UTSA. It amazes me how fans of this program are consistently satisfied with so little.
