Some of you may know already, but he is already enrolled at UNT. My girlfriend works for the UNT Accounting and Cashiering Services department and made him his ID. She told me she made an ID for this guy who "was built like a football player who transferred from Oregon"...so I asked her his name, and she said "Anthony Wallace."6 points

We might know a little more about his on ball defense if he'd ever been able to play anything but center here. I don't think people on here are going to recognize the player they see at the next level.3 points

Same 4-5 wins. I don't see much hope for improvement from last year.3 points

Bingo. The NBA ain't the NCAA. Tony won't be trying to block everything at the rim. That said, he is going to have to realize that he can't block everything and spread his feet and play some face up D. The process may take a year or so, but he will exceed the meager expectations of the UNT fan base, and eventually of his drafted position.2 points

Mac wants to run the football and stop the run. I'm worried that teams will run run play action UNT to death. The one thing I'm hoping for is for the secondary and LB play to be good enough against the run to cause opposing teams to have to pass, and then for the secondary to be able to cover long enough to get some QB pressure. I think Skladany is going to get the maximum out of these guys, and UNT finally is showing signs of having size and depth enough to keep pounding late into the game on both O and D. Now, that's still an issue with the DL, but the LB's and safeties are simply going to have to play with their hair on fire to help compensate. Offensively, the WR crew has to show up. I know QB play is a big deal around here, but the WR position disappeared last year. It was pitiful. With even marginal improvement at receiver, this team wins 2 extra games this year. I'm still predicting 5-7, but I can see 6-6 or MAYBE 7-5 if UNT gets a couple of breaks. I do think they will win a game or two that are slight surprises or very very close games.2 points

I know I've come out as not the biggest fan of Byrd and DT, but I really do believe we will only win 3 or 4 games if those two don't improve from last year and we don't replace them. 105th in the nation in scoring is not going to cut it, so that means DT is going to have to be more accurate in the red zone and Byrd will have to run with his head up and get in the end zone (0 red-zone touchdowns against FBS opponents). Yeah I know our defense has work to do, but DT and Byrd wasted too much good blocking last year, both in the red zone and overall. They have to improve, our else we can't let them keep their jobs all year like they did last year.2 points

I agree with Harry for the most part...but see Southern Miss as a win...I agree that it will be a close game, because I don't think we are going to kill anyone, but this is one we win. 7-5 ...BUT...it seems I predict 7-5 every stinking year, and very seldom have I been right2 points

This is a very serious surgery with some major recovery time involved. I had one similar to it a little over two years ago and it is not fun. The good news is that the problem with the aorta is fixed. If that thing bursts you have a very short time to say whatever prayers you wish to say before you meet your Maker. I hope his recovery goes smoothly for him - as mine did for me.2 points

Pearl is a must see visit. Be sure to pay attention to the remaining survivors wall/plaque the Arizona Memorial. On request, a survivor of the Arizona can be entombed in the Arizona with his mates. The survivor is cremated and the urn is put in place by a team of Navy divers. On the day we were there, it was announced that such an entombment would take place later that afternoon. It is a rare, private burial ceremony for family member only. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it.2 points

I wanted to pick you guys brain about Tony Mitchell. I am an OKC Thunder fan and the Thunder currently don't have a guy that can come close to defending Lebron. Nobody is going to shut Lebron down but Paul George and Khawi Leonard have done a very nice job of at least making him work for his points. The Thunder have never come close to that. Thabo is too light to guard him, he gets KD in foul trouble and Ibaka isn't mobile enough. Is Tony Mitchell a guy that could potentially do what Leonard and George has done? His highlights are mostly of him dunking. Could he be a potential defensive stopper in the NBA and a stretch 4 that could hit open 3's and rebound? A lot of people are concerned with last season and from what I've seen it mostly had to do with 2 key teammates getting injured and Mitchell getting swarmed. Is that correct? I would like to hear what you guys think about Mitchell because I'm sure you guys have watched him more than anyone. Thanks in advance!1 point

To be very honest, what you will find here is a split camp. We made a terrible hire at head coach, and that head coach's inability to adjust to injury, subbing players in and out every 2 minutes, pulling players from the game for every physical and mental error, and just plain bad bench coaching caused a visible lack of intensity from every player, save one. But none of the others are potential NBA draft picks, so we don't focus on that. Physically, Mitchell is exactly what you need to guard Lebron. Problem is, you would be taking a risk because you will have to teach Mitchell how to defend at the NBA level ( UNT coaching staff failed miserably in TMs development, how much of that is TMs fault and how much is coaching is a BIG point of debate here). But here is the deal: TM came here as an academic risk and was an A, B honor roll student. TM has been nothing but a solid citizen at UNT and a class act with his comments at the combine. TM is bigger and stronger than George. Very similar in build to Lebron. TMs shooting motion from outside needs to be re-worked. A good NBA shooting coach and a year or two should make him a decent outside shooter (for those of you that doubt this, go take a look at Lebrons 3 PT % his rookie year). The skinny: TM has all the tools to be a top 5 pick, and has the physical tools to be an above average NBA player if not an elite NBA player. If you believe TM will work hard at his shot in the league, take him. If you don't, pass. But if you pass, I promise you, you will be sorry. But I doubt OKC needs to worry. I think TM will be long gone before your pick (unless you have someone else's #1 that I don't know about)1 point

Folks...we still need: 1). Players...still have a few open spots...you know you want to play...let us know and join the fun. 2). Umpires...could use a couple of experienced slo-pitch type umps. Texas Stranger is a possibility but may have a schedule conflict...anyone else out there while we hang on and hope Texas Stranger is available? 3). Sponsors...we have had some very generous folks step up to help sponsor this event but still need: (One t-shirt sleeve sponsor at $50 and 4 base sponsors at $25.00 each and a tailgate sponsor) 4). Volunteers...the more the merrier! 5). Silent Auction items...anything of use would be appreciated like UNT stuff, gift cards, golf rounds, tailgate stuff, etc., etc. Any donated items would be appreciated. OK, so still "stuff" to do and items needed....anyone out there willing to commit to any of the above? As you know...it's for a very good cause...UNT Softball Scholarship Fund!1 point

This season definitely brings the most anticipation in my book. I'm extremely excited for finally having some regional and in-state rivals. No longer will we have to explain to our non-North Texas friends who Middle Tennessee or FIU is. The new TV package is also amazing. I am also curious about how TXST plays out in the Belt. I feel UTSA will do "okay" maybe a 4 win season. I am, however, hoping both UTSA and TXST fail this upcoming season so we can win some recruiting battles. In regards to Houston and SMU... I don't honestly care. All that matters to me is that we win the majority of the new SMU series we will have with me. I always felt out of the loop when trying to keep up with Belt news the past years. I always found myself keeping up with the Big12 more... CUSA should change this though1 point

We improved everywhere except for defensive line. I don't see how we go 4-8. We were a few plays away from 6-6. An improved team makes those plays.1 point

I see it like this. Wins= Idaho, @Tulane, @ Southern Miss, UTEP, and UTSA. 5-7 with a slightly improved outlook. Coach Mac enters his 4th year on a warm seat, but he has Berglund ready to go after it in 2014 to get us to 7 wins and a bowl berth, which leads to an extension for Coach Mac. If we really exceeded realistic expectations, we would win 8 games (add in 3 wins over Ball State, MUTS, La Tech, and Rice). If we fall off the wagon, we still beat Idaho and UTSA.1 point

Idaho-Easy win, will be a big crowd, opening at home. Expect a blowout. Ohio-Loss. Team will be better than last year. Will roll. Ball State-Close win. Georgia-Loss. Tulane-Easy win. MUTS-Will be a fun game. We will win, since it's home. Tech-Loss. Really underestimated team. Southern Miss-They'll be close to as bad as they were last year so we'll win. Rice-Toss up. I say win. UTEP-Loss. UTEP will be a battle. UTSA-Blowout win. Tulsa-We lose. Stand by 7-5. Feeling confident. I don't think we need to improve too much to get there and I think CUSA is a step down in competition.1 point

Tony is a super charged pogo stick under the basket, with a 7'3" wingspan. He's very disruptive in the paint, but that's only half the battle with LJ. LJ can explode from one end to other like very few NBA talents can. Tony has shown at times that he doesn't want to run the floor after a turnover or defensive stop. Can Tony slow him down? yes. Will he? Maybe.1 point

Im new to mean green football, so im not coming in with past disappointments. I did follow last season and I predict 7-5. im not sure that means UNT has improved that much. I think they go 7-5 if they play a little bit better than last year, and I think they are capable. The schedule worked out good with so miss and Tulane on the road. That gives us a good shot a road wins. I know there is doom and gloom with Unt fans, but im sorry, 0-12 is a horrible team. If people can assume they will be better, than I also have to assume Unt will be too. Tulanes 2-10 record in cusa is pretty bad too. And rice at home should at least be a pickem. Rice had a nice season and picked it up at the end, but 3 wins came from 1-11 Kansas, 2-10 Tulane, and utsa...im not ready to say they can go and beat a decent team on the road. They lost to a bad Memphis team. this years schedule is not a tough as last years.1 point

I can also see Southern Miss being a close and exciting win. Hopefully I'm not being too optimistic though. I want to believe we'll see North Texas in a bowl game this year. Your post pretty much makes my point. If you need to worry about travel costs and so forth, just accept your lot in life and drop down to FCS. If you are an FBS program, start acting like one. Do whatever it takes it improve your lot in the FBS hierarchy, which, make no mistake, an invite to the MWC would do. 30 fans caring on this site in 2013 from zero fans caring in 1961 isn't much progress in my book.1 point

the simple reality is that north Texas has a "stajium" to pay for and if the fans are not going to show up the revenue has to come from somewhere north Texas is already looking at the reality of having their bond rating drop from where it is down one level when they try and build some dorms and a couple of other things and they are willing to live with that.....they already clipped the students for all they could on the union fees to "not sell bonds so greedy bankers make money" (even though they bond everything else out especially in south dallas) even though it was always said the stajium would be paid off over X number of years that does not mean they really want that to happen.....the north Texas system is facing the reality that dallas is going to suck wind (and bonding capacity) for years and years (decades) to come and The State of Texas is watching that like a hawk to not waste valuable state funds if they don't have to......and instead of realizing it is a turd and keeping it what it is they are going to double down and waste massive cash on a reading center and they are talking about dorms......all of that takes up bonding and the more bonding VS the same revenues or slightly higher revenues the lower bonds go in ratings and The state of Texas provides ZERO money to build dorms so that will come straight against university tuition revenues and dorm rental revenues (which will almost certainly be well below projections) they are already clipping the Denton students $15 per semester for the UCD, the law school most likely will not come near enrollment projections and if it does they will be most likely students that drop out of fail out at a much higher rate than expected and that is going to suck wind (and bonding capacity) for a long time as well....the law school got 52 million for a waste of money to fix up the old muny building and they have already spent 25 million on the top two floors of the UCD......and that 52 million again is more bonding capacity for the system used along with the 25 million already wasted and the law school has not held a single class yet and when it does if they are going to be "cheap" then they are going to have to find some other way to cover 77 million dollars in temporary and permanent space for the law school which means "system" belt tightening (which means Denton students getting clipped on more UCD fees and student union fees and Denton dorm cost going up much faster than the past decade or so ect) they have already used the "hire more faculty" and then not hiring more faculty trick on the Denton students to increase system revenues while holding expenses relatively steady so that is out and there are only so many Tshacks you can litter up your "flagship" with before it looks like a trailer park university also with the enrollment decline recently and then the less than expected enrollment growth the next year and north Texas behind both THECB and north Texas enrollment projections for 2015 the "system" is having to look at the reality of either stopping their investments in dallas and south dallas or further screwing the Denton students so the reality is I would be sure that RV is under pressure to reduce athletics subsidies from the academic side, increase the bond payments on the stajium to get it paid off sooner and he is getting that pressure while the team loses and the crowds are not showing up just for the new stajium http://www.dentonrc.com/local-news/local-news-headlines/20130517-regents-approve-housing-plans.ece currently the north Texas system is at AA for long term bonds the Texas Tech System is AA+ and the UT and TAMU Systems are both AAA and UH is Aa2 (Moodys) and Texas state is AA.....so if north Texas dropped down to AA- they would be the lowest rated system of all those in Texas and more importantly they would be just one downgrade from A+ which would possibly open up some issues about who can invest in the bonds being issued which lowers the value and significantly decreases the number of interested investors and even an AA- rating would put a crush on new system construction until it was bumped back up to at least AA again here is the attendance at Apoge since inception 28,075 UH 21,181 Indiana 13,142 FAU 17,815 ULM 17,011 WKU 15,962 MTSU 2012 22,259 TSU 21,823 Troy 17,055 Louisiana 17,534 stAte 15,963 USA 207,820 VS 30,850 X 11 = 339,350 (11,958 on average under capacity per game) so with the 11 games played so far north Texas is averaging 11,958 below capacity and they have foregone 131,350 tickets being sold and all of the parking and concessions that would accompany that and one of the interesting things is fans were about as interested in seeing Texas Southern in the second game of 2012 as they were seeing "Big Time" Big 10 school Indiana in the second game ever at Apoge so any way you slice it or price it even with $10 dollar tickets north Texas lost out on $1,313,500 in revenues over the last two seasons and really it is probably 2 or 3X that amount with concessions and a realistic ticket price and parking.....the lost revenues from that has to be made up somewhere and when you are averaging 19,000 or less per game even at $30 per person (total spend tickets and concessions ect) you have revenues of $570,000 per game and you can beat that going on the road for even a midlevel or lower level Big 5 team paying you for a one and done also Fouts will not get knocked down for free and that will probably come on the backs of athletics and even if it doesn't it still comes on the backs of the university and the system and The State of Texas does not cover things like that either....and one of the things government types often forget (most likely not the north Texas athletics administration at this point) is when you build something new and nice or add new facilities there is a cost incurred to maintain those facilities so they do not end up like Fouts 20 years later so when you have been playing in a paid for stajium that you are letting rot and you move to a new stajium and you want to actually maintain it you have additional expenses.....when you convert an old rotting HS gym into a mens BB practice facility for $3 million you have the expenses of AC, maintenance, and upkeep VS someone going around and checking to make sure the facility is still locked up and doing nothing every so often when you want to add baseball and you want a first class baseball facility and you are unsure what baseball attendance will be and your system is already looking at going to a bond rating of AA- as outlined in the article above well you need some revenues to pay for that baseball facility and then of course you need revenues to maintain it so it does not become the Fouts of D1-A baseball so when your football fans do not show up to the tune of 100K+ fans over two years.....when your season tickets do not move up dramatically with a new stajium and your mean green club membership does not jump dramatically not only can you not afford to buy in D1-AA games for $350,000, but you need to start looking at a body bag game + a 1 and done that will pay your $500K+ and at some point if you are charging $1 for tickets or giving them away for a bucket of chicken (even those tickets were actually sold the the KFC franchise owner) or running buy 1 get 5 free promotions you start to decrease the value of your product to the point that those 19K that are showing up say I am just going to stop buying tickets and instead I am going to call the Colonel and get a bucket and free tickets so even if RV is not being fully leaned on the system to get his stajium bonds paid off faster he is looking at needing to bring in revenues and he is looking at the fact that every aspect of the north Texas system is going to be looked at from a revenue perspective (and student unions, non-hired faculty, UCD fees and Tshacks are already maxed out and dorm charges are about to go maxed out) and dallas and south dallas are the new system priorities and they are already massively under performing and will probably continue to do so and that means that athletics is on the chopping block as far as baseball programs and other new facilities and facilities upgrades because the bonding capacity is used up so the reality is athletics needs revenues and if they can't get it with butts in Apoge they will get it elsewhere1 point

Did he make others better around him? Did her turn our team into a wining team? No one is debating he is a good player but he was not what was advertised when coming here. It was a pretty big hype when he signed and the numbers were decent but overall the team his first year did not standout. Oh wait let me hear the excuses about how we were young, less talented, how we lost some of our very good players due to grades... All garbage from a person who then refuses to see injuries or chemistry (a norm with a new coach) as a reason for a disappointing season last season.1 point

.... Is that difficult for you to understand? He has NBA potential and could do some damage in the NBA but he never showed that here at unt... Not a difficult concept to understand. He never showed his potential here. Not under Johhny and not under Benford and that is fine. He was still a solid player and was better then just about any player who played here. He just never wowed us with his NBA potential that should have taken us to the next level. Playing half a year under Johhny is a weak excuse. Just as week as blaming a single man for the "demise" of our basketball program and Tony. I hope he does well in the NBA and can make UNT look inciting for our top level recruits.1 point
-
He is an NBA talent, but clearly he did not cut it here. That is where the disappointment came from. It is true that scours said he was not an NBA caliber yet, but most people knew once he got to the combine he would turn some heads. Even last year his NBA draft stock slipped. Maybe he was not a good fit in his two years here, or maybe he just did not give 100% effort. Even so he always had the NBA body and NBA ability.1 point
