  1. I know most people thought him being drafted would be great pub for our school, but every article seems to bash us as the reason why Mitchell didn't do as well as he should have.

  2. Not bad for a giant aluminum lawn chair...they should have done concrete, that aluminum will not stop bullets very well...and they need that!!!

  5. Just praying that every time they talk about him on TV during an NBA game that they do not ever mention Missouri. We are the ones who gave him a chance.

  6. I am going to go out on a limb here and quit drinking the green kool-aide. I think Tony is going to underperform in the NBA and does not warrant a top 20 draft pick. I can not think of what more motivation a player could possibly need than to have the NBA carrot in front of him all season long. Combine that with being a supposed basketball superman playing in a poor basketball conference. The man should have dominated no matter his coach. I am far from being a Benford apologist but he was the head of an impressive staff of coaches. I don't think we can put TM's failings solely in Benfords lap. Not with his skill set. Dont take this to mean I think poorly of TM. He has represented the University with class. I hope that at some point he finds the fire he needs to compete at a high level.

  7. This game from the 2012 football season. Also, an ESPN nationally televised game from Apogee Stadium with the MGRN boys calling the game on YouTube. 6:40 on the time frame is still my favorite Mean Green "Jim-Jim" touchdown from last season. #7, ie, Mr. Derek Thompson looks as sharp in this nationally televised game as he did in the Kansas State game earlier in the season. Are you ready for some football?

  8. It is difficult to tell from the drawings, and it is obviously will be quite an improvement over their current stadium, but I just don't prefer the "skin over erector set" style. I love Apogee because of the brick and concrete construction and the feeling of permanence in the costruction. The erector set style, much like old Texas Stadium, always leave me with a feeling of the project never being completed. Again though, this will be a big improvement over Robertson, but it doesn't fix the problem of location.

  11. I'm curious what everyone thinks about the new Houston Cougar stadium that will be available for the 2014 season. It seems like a real nice stadium. Thoughts? http://houstonfootballstadium.com/home/

  12. There's no perfect comparison, but similar to TMitch, Barkley was tasked with leading a team with high expectations entering the year. They both found their teams decimated by injury and under-performed themselves. With the increased scrutiny, flaws in their game were exposed. My point was simply that placing all the blame on Benford is irresponsible as Barkley didn't have a coaching change to blame.

  13. Not impressed as there is not much originality here. Does anyone else think the stylized star is in homage to CUSA?

  14. The Wing Zone is NOT coming down under any future expansion plan laid by HKS or Manhattan It's the trademark of the stadium and a huge reason why Apogee holds noise. Expansion is upper deck student side. The bridge's roof and the logo is proof. In addition to the original expansion plans. It'd be pretty clever if y'all had UTSA at home to open, because then y'all would sell out the game. Still think they should put y'all in the Astrodome with no renovations and treat you like Houston's version of Ned Snow.

  15. To hear them talk down San Antonio way they will be in the SEC by 2014. So see, you will be starting out against an SEC team.

  16. Once Randy begins to recognize your face he's not nearly as grouchy... It doesn't get much better in Denton than a burger and root beer float sitting outside at Frosty's.

  17. Someone needs to read the forum rules.

  18. Wouldn't be Frosty's without Randy, so I agree. To me, it's just part of the character of the place. I am probably used to it since I live in Denton and I frequent it. By the way, their root beer is homemade. Next time, try an off the menu item called a black cow. It is awesome!

  19. Again, the higher up the government ladder we all go to have things "taken care of", the worse those things work. It's worth noting that the USA did just fine up until 1979 without a DOE. Not sure why it was ever needed, because it's useless and a money-suck. Also, what does it do, such that it needs 5K employees and a budget of over $65 billion per year? Also, doesn't even the name "Department of Education" give people any sort of shiver down their spine??

  20. I actually think his best perfomance is in It's a Wonderful Life. Yeah, he generally thought of as the nice everyman there, but goes in some dark areas (his explosions at his family, etc)...and that non verbalized anger he has throughout the film. A lot of great eye acting going on, you can feel his frustration so often.

  21. Very nice. Hopefully, one day our attendance will be good enough to warrant building that upper deck on the student side.

  25. Valid criticism. Player development is part of coaching. Benford failed miserably with a 1st round talent. Why wouldn't we be criticized?

  26. We have our first sponsor folks....a generous individual has made a pledge of a $100.00 donation to get things rolling! I have not asked if I can use his name so will not do so at this time, but it is very much appreciated. It always amazes me who steps forward to support UNT in these events. Each time we do one of these a new donor or two steps up in support of our student-athletes. Great group of people these Mean Green Nation folks.

  27. Because we spend the money on the wrong things. First & foremost, we need to find a way to attract the best & brightest into the field of education. A few years ago I taught at a small private university where over 50% of our students seeking teaching certification came from the bottom 10% (in terms of HS GPA & ACT) of entering students. Our best students went into business, science, & other majors which led to a career that was more prestigious & which paid better. We have to change that. We have to pay teachers well enough that the career will attract more of our brightest students. Second, we have to train teachers better. It was a good idea to make prospective teachers major in the area they will teach, then minor in education. That wasn't popular among education professors for obvious reasons. Third we need to decide what is really important for students to learn & then focus on that. It's inexcusable that a kid can graduate from HS with marginal abilities in reading, writing, & math, and yet has a HS transcript containing fluff (defining fluff will be a land-mine). Finally, we need to avoid the fads that education is so prone to. Disclaimer: I am not expert in education & the verbage above reflects my opinion & nothing more.

  28. I don't think anyone wants to live in a poorly educated country. At the same time, how can anyone explain why we can spend so much money on education and not have better results when compared to other countries that spend less than the US and rank higher than US students?

  30. Not any school, just as at Mizzou his status with the NCAA would have prevented him from playing at most major conference schools. Of course we were not his only option and Johnny did quite well to get him. Tony played the biggest part, having to go an entire year paying his own way and making what were reported as very good (or great) grades. Why people (not you emmit) question his work ethic after that is still surprising.

  31. I'm constantly perplexed by this "gave him a chance" argument. Tony Mitchell wasn't cast aside by Missouri and left to wander the streets in search of some school, any school, that would take him in. He wasn't a behavioral risk. He wasn't an academic risk. It is asinine to assume that we were his only harbor in the storm when no other school would touch a FIVE STAR player. One day we will stop spinning the Mitchell situation to help overcome the massive failure to utilize him.
