  2. Athletics has dropped a ton of money getting the new sound system and scoreboard. The university needs to pay for the lighting system. Athletics, believe it or not, is not the biggest user of that facility, which is why the AD is pushing for the school to pay for better lighting.

  4. I figured we were drifting down the rickity road to the band pageantry discussion again. The point I was trying to make is that what's going on in Denton is much better than most in the metroplex think. Sure there is plenty of room for improvement, but the point I was trying to make is relevant to what many expect to find when the visit UNT. "Big Time" is far from what I believe they expect. But what they find is much much better than what they expect.

  5. Five Key Points From Today's Benghazi Hearing 1. Two "stand-down" orders were given while the Benghazi attacks were in progress. 2. The "protest" about a YouTube video was a complete fabrication by the Obama administration. 3. Cheryl Mills, Clinton's lawyer at the State Department, told witnesses not to speak to House investigators. 4. The diplomatic personnel on the ground acted with incredible, unheralded heroism. 5. Democrats came to rebut the eyewitnesses with talking points. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2013/05/08/Five-Key-Points-from-Today-s-Benghazi-Hearing-So-Far Rick

  6. I may be the only one, but I'm back on board with TB and MBB. Last night I found out a bunch about injuries that I didn't know about. Also, I didn't know we beat stAte by 24 in the last game of the regular season. in the words of Rick Perry, "it can't get no worse". I'm going to let last season be last season. I think it will get better, and I think Benford might just show us all that he can actually coach.

  7. Yac, yac, yac. That's all that would have happened at that event. I had other things going the night they were in Fort Worth, but I doubt I would have gone if I hadn't. I don't need to here Mac talk about Florida and Iowa St. again. I don't need to hear false promises from someone who should no longer be our basketball coach and then have to be courteous. What I need is for someone to win or to be held accountable. Not holding my breath.

  8. Vastly underachieving? Here we go, it's the offseason. No "Pageantry". What a joke. It's time to stop visiting GMG.com for a while. Not to mention I never said that we were better. But that we are most definitely an impressive college experience for a small conference team. We have one of the best college environments in CUSA, probably the best after ECU leaves. Maybe behind UTEP, but UTEP is lacking in "college environment" feeling and has little tailgating. They have a sweet stadium, attendance, and dedication though.

  9. We have a great stadium in Denton. No, terrible idea. It's a pain in the ass for the team, coaches, students, many fans, and takes revenue away from the University as well as Denton. It turns a home game into an away game as well. Negative!

  12. Oh really? Below are all of the reruits we beat out multiple P5 schools for DESPITE going 5-7 with a loss to Texas State. We had the 48th best class in the country, which of course was the best in CUSA and the 2nd best in the AAC (Behind only Loserville) and better than multiple Big 12, B1G, Pac and ACC schools. So do some research before you try to knock our recruiting nor should you ever compare us to the likes of you. http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Markeith-Ambles-137411;_ylt=AiMpI5jmCliuxwOjoXGljtBDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Demarcus-Ayers-137146;_ylt=ApHHKjbSgBz_C.AcANl89fNDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Tyus-Bowser-119362;_ylt=AnHERLCENmAA5XB35lNWG0JDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Donald-Gage-109919;_ylt=AiWGzrOfC0GC0iJ6HYZLrmtDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Joseph-Glenn-130260;_ylt=AqbRsWQqMSXaxOyOj8Jei1dDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-D%27Juan-Hines-141051;_ylt=AvbllWZNB.ROm01M8_KNm4hDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Chauntez-Jackson-125711;_ylt=AmzZmeMOssKnFaDoVWHyCt9DPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Kent-London-143136;_ylt=AqKKXt0IM_q3ZOTvVDks.vZDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-John-O%27Korn-116990;_ylt=AhM0IpyGpFV_.t.5PhAEOYhDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Damien-Parris-138601;_ylt=AkfZFzOTQBKUHxf2NEoDqRRDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Damien-Parris-138601;_ylt=AkfZFzOTQBKUHxf2NEoDqRRDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Ja%27Braylin-Thomas-124807;_ylt=AuZARLLHtPaVvLavqTdnOJhDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Josh-Thomas-118424;_ylt=AjiciKKI7hSuAihGmplUvqZDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Nick-Thurman-133004;_ylt=Al9FzxMbUBsSaT5ACyPR6xRDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Caleb-Tucker-116373;_ylt=AsQ.FsxZsVci2JRvpgVjRelDPZB4 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Markeith-Ambles-137411;_ylt=AiMpI5jmCliuxwOjoXGljtBDPZB4 I don't care to discuss personal details but I spelled it ut for meangreener, so I'll do the same for you. I didn't leave UNT because I was about to fail out (How in the hell would I get into UH if Im about to fail out). I left because my brother was deathly ill and I wanted to be closer to him and help my family out at the same time. I ignored most of the omments I have gotten on here but the fact that people keep spreading something that is clearly untrue really pisses me off to no end. We're just taking back what's ours. Says the school who has lost to everybody under the sun. Sorry you feel that way Harry. You're honestly one of the very few people I actually respect on GMG. If we blew you out by 3+ tds in back to back years, why would we be afraid of playing you again? Ask this question on Coogfans then. Maybe you'd have a chance to win that series.

  15. Apparently the Vanderbilt U contingency representing their athletic department who recently made a special trip to Denton to take a tour of Apogee Stadium think something special is going on at UNT--that is, facility-wise. Another poster said one from Commodore Country after his tour of Apogee and the MG Village said a few SEC schools didn't have the overall facilities that North Texas did. (Not sure who those would be but I'll take his word at that). BUT.... like the Super Pit which for well over 10 years was the best on campus basketball venue in the Lone Star State and remained so until UT-Austin built their Super Drum; yet we cannot afford to go thru as many losing years at Apogee as we did the Super Pit most of the last few decades. Still the best formula in the NCAA to this day is: Great Facility + Great Football Team ='s Annual Record Attendance Numbers, Top 25 Ranked Teams + Recognition When Better Conferences Come A'Callin'. 18. One interesting note from the Fort Worth stop. Those there might remember that there was a gentleman there that announced that he would double his Mean Green Club donation if North Texas beat UTEP. I've met this guy before. He has season club level seats near mid field, so I'm guessing his donation is already relatively significant. What makes this even more interesting is that he has no direct ties to UNT. He's from Southlake and grew attached to the program during the Dodge days. We need more fans like this. Similar to the recruits, if we can get people on campus (or in this case, to the games), we can get them hooked on the UNT experience.

  21. Live in Granbury/Fort Worth (it's complicated) Degree: BS in Kinesiology, Graduated in 1990 (duh) Favorite UNT memory: 2 hours of basketball starting at 4PM every week day in the PEB. Good Luck Rodeo on any coin Thursday night. Most memorable class was Anatomy/physiology with the one and only Dr.Lott. Hardest/best professor I experienced at UNT. Plus the keg party he threw for his students at the end of Spring semester was pretty unreal. When I asked him if he was worried about consequences for the underage drinking, his response was a classic "F em, I got tenure." Favorite UNT sports memory: while in school - tie between the 1988 UT road game robbery and the 1988 miracle come back against NE Louisiana in basketball. Down 11 with about a minute to play and won in overtime. After Grad best moment.- Hot Springs last year. 1st conference basketball tournament I had been to, and was a hoot.

  22. Guess what. Not one witness has testified that ANYONE was protesting a dumb movie. Not one. The administration made that up so they wouldn't be inconvenienced with having to deal with a terror attack, both politically and practically. Funny you have this position now, but were "outraged" at Pres. G.W. Bush for Iraq. At least GWB didn't continue to insist that WMDs existed 6 months after he knew they didn't.

  23. Where do you live/family: Surprise, AZ - married, 3 sons and lots of coyotes, quail, roadrunners, and prairie dogs Degree/Year attended/graduated UNT: 2002 BA in Poli Sci, BA in General Studies, BFA in Art. Finished coursework for MA in 05 and hated everything about the thesis I was writing so it's officially incomplete. Favorite NT Memory: So many new friends and great times, but probably just the realization from all of it that we can change what seemed to be predestined both in ourselves and in the world around us. Favorite NT Sports Memory: Everything from rushing the field to bringing down goalposts to winning fans of the game as Mean Green Kiss to the Bowl win in 02...almost all of the games were good memories for me because I have the bizarre luck to rarely be at games when we lose. Funny thing about this thread, I figured out who at least a couple of you are

  25. http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/exclusive-benghazi-talking-points-underwent-12-revisions-scrubbed-111305929.html?vp=1 And it's not so much that Pres. Obama "let Amerocans die for political gain," it's that he covered up a terrorist attack after the fact for political gain. It's becoming crystal clear that absolutely happened through testimony and other documents released through these hearings. .

  26. I heard that when Petreus testified the real truth would come out. I heard that when Clinton testified the real truth would come out. There have now been nine Congressional hearings...none of which have produced even an iota of evidence of cover-up or the ridiculous notion that the President of the United States of America allowed Americans to die for political gain...so once these hearings produce much the same, we're probably in store for at least another half-dozen until someone says something that can even remotely be woven into and support the pre-conceived narrative created by people far less concerned with understanding the events of Benghazi and learning from them than villainizing an administration they abhor.

  27. The President lied to the American people to get re-elected. And, since he thinks the way you do, that is perfectly ok with you. What does embassy budget have to do with calling in an airless strike that could have saved lives? Not a damn thing. It is amazing to me the lengths liberals will go to in order to justify the President's actions on this subject.

  31. I was embarrassed for the United States when they blamed it on the video. Mortar attacks, RPG fire, small arms fire, dead & wounded Americans and Obama basically says my dog ate my homework. Obama made a bigger deal about 1 kid in Chicago getting offed after his election than he did about a coordinated terrorist attack on a US Consulate which resulted in the deaths of diplomats. But hey, it was an election year and he couldn't possibly protect American interests abroad when he had an election to win.

  33. Just had to share this story with the Mean Green Family – it says so much about this team. I am 5th year senior O-lineman #70 Coleman Feeley’s mom. Traveling up from Austin on Saturday for the “Sr. Bowl” against USA we experienced major car trouble in major traffic on 35. Our hearts were breaking realizing that we were going to miss the senior presentation before the game; that our son would be out there without us. To make a long story short, we were able to communicate with Mary Hardin, Football Administrative Assistant Extraordinaire, who does so much for this team. She arranged for the wonderful Jamie Simmonds, O-line Coach Mike Simmonds’ wife, to be with Coleman on the field. As the parent of a college football player, you pray for someone like Jamie to be near your son. Coaches’ wives and families live and breathe Mean Green Football too and their contribution, while mostly unseen, is immeasurable and invaluable. We learned the rest of the story when we finally arrived at the stadium at the end of the first quarter…Not only was Jamie Simmonds there for my son, but the whole O-line came out on the field – my son’s “brothers” were with him. While we always knew the Senior Family portrait would provide a bittersweet memory, we had no idea what a poignant picture it would be. Thank you everyone. Go Mean Green! (Many thanks to the Fortenberrys for photo – the family portrait with Jamie by Rick Yeats can be seen on the RYJ website)

  34. I normally have little good to say about schools changing conferences. The whole realignment thing has been out of control, stupid, and done for all the wrong reasons. But out of all the schools changing it is North Texas that I have no bad feelings about. Your choice was done for the right reasons. To bring schools of regional interest into your stadium to increase the enjoyment of your fan base. You've been on an island too long and it will be good to see you part of Texas again. We all know CUSA chose you for your market and other ignorant reasons. But they accidentally are getting a good conference member. They are lucky though a bunch of their fans probably don't know it. You will probably catch some bad vibes from some in the Belt, but you leave the Sun Belt better than it was when you entered and have been a great partner over the years. I will definitely be rooting for you and will be excited to see what happens. I would ask one thing....don't forget where you came from and all your years with us. You know we are still fighting,

  36. Hey, there's no shame in almost failing out of North Texas. I had some friends that were on academic probation our freshman year. There are academic counselors available for these kinds of things but maybe you just felt you were too far behind to catch up. Again, no shame in that. I don't think any less of you. Also, I think it speaks volumes that you continously feel the need to defend yourself on someone else's message board. I honestly could care less what's said about North Texas on the Louisiana Lafayette board even though we beat them. It is so refreshing to know that my university is so impressive that fans of teams that have already won the football game still feel the need to lurk here to puff their chests out. Shows that we are on the minds of others long after the final whistle. I can only hope for Houston's sake that you guys get there one day. And, again, I am so sorry that North Texas was too rigorous for you. We all understand and I promise we're not judging.

  42. UNT had wrapped up nothing to play for as well. The context around the discussion of this game at the Caravan was that UNT didn't mail it in, while people were speculating that the team wasn't buying into Benford's program and weren't trying to play for him. We missed you at that stop in your neck of the woods.
