  1. I think he absolutely cares about America, and is doing what he thinks is best for America. I also think that what Pres. Obama feels is best for America will severely damage this county and our relations with other countries. Just because the Dems attacked Bush personally doesn't mean republicans or conservatives should do the sane to Pres. Obama.

  2. I think probably the best news of all is that Mac makes it sound like Derek Thompson has the job and its his to lose. This will not sit well with the people who fantasize about Berglund being Johnny Manziel based on recuiting rankings four years ago. I also want to say this, we bitch and complain a lot amongst ourselves. It's stupid. We waste energy and the same people show up at things. UNT football - and, maybe, UNT, athletics should be like a Jesus to us, and we should, therefore, be spreading its gospel. Otherwise, it's just the same people showing up trying to decide amongst themselves what's the pecking order amongst those who show up. I've tried to get a former player I know involved. I've tried to get former roommates involed. So far, I've gotten one former roommate to games. So basically...Derek Thompson... UNT football and athletics...Jesus...gospel...spread the word.

  3. Anyone who thinks this is embarrassing knows exactly what they can do to help. What you see here has, in part, as much to do with the lack of support from UNT's fan base, such that it is, as it is to any BOR member or UNT staffer. Passing the buck and passing the blame without looking in the mirror first is not going to get it done. This is, in part, due to years and years of neglect by fans, administration, BOR, alums, etc., etc. It will not be fixed overnight, but IT IS BEING FIXED! We will all know that day has arrived when people stop making lame excuses as to why they don't support UNT, and instead we start hearing about all the ways folks have started to support UNT. And, yes, i plan on living long after I see that happen...good stuff is happening...jump aboard.

  9. Agree with you Lonnie. Another great event hosted by Jordan Case and Park Place Lexus. That food truck (I had the pulled pork grilled cheese) was awesome as was the open bar and whiskey tasting section...although I stuck to beer! Thought the coaches did another nice job, and was happy to see some "new faces" in the crowd. Although, the crowd was way too small...what, maybe 60-70 not counting staff? I am not good at estimating crowd size. But, you are also correct in that many folks attending are the ones who we can count on to usually attend these events....and some. like me, who attend multiple of these events each year. I saw at least 15 in attendance last night who also attended the Denton event. That's a real shame. these events are really good, and one can get an early season "feel" for how things are going. Sure, you won't get detailed "facts and figures" as these events are not that sort of event...these are for fun, for excitement, for hype for the approaching seasons, etc. Come with a positive attitude looking to have some fun with other members of the great Mean green Nation and you will definitely not be disappointed. Great to see you last night, Lonnie and to get to meet your lovely wife and two great kids. Really enjoyed seeing your two "wee ones" at the event, and meeting your wife was a bonus! Folks...if it is not too late, please try to make tonight's Coaches Caravan in Ft. Worth...you will be glad you did. On a side note...did folks see and realize that these events are being co-sponsored by the UNT Alumni Association this year for the first time? Really great to have this connection and know that campus wide partnerships are being developed for the benefit of the university community and its alumni base.

  10. Am I on board with him? I am only because he's our coach and I want him to prove all of us naysayers wrong. Do I actually believe we will turn it around and be significantly better next season? Not really. I think a .500 record would be a decent mark of progress, and that is sad considering we're not far removed from expecting much more.

  11. I liked the part where he talked about his time at EMU. "When I was down with the peons, all I wanted to do was beat other peons and compete with other peons and never wanted to beat the wonderful nobles of college football. See, I was one of you once upon a time so I understand your point of view and you should just be happy where you are. I was, and look where it landed me."

  15. Pompous asshole... Regardless on anyone's stance on the issue. I agree with the antitrust angle too. Additionally, if the NCAA wants to screw around then let Congress get involved with the monopoly issue and end the bowls nonprofit status while they are at it. Hypothetically, how about small rosters like the NFL and playoffs. That would make college football really interesting.

  16. I was at the Plano one tonight. It seems like it was on par speech wise from Denton & Dallas. Rick didn't mention much about baseball. I would say Rick almost garunteed at least 6 home games so keep an eye on that. Still in talks with UTA for basketball. MAC had the biggest speech of the night, couldn't even tell he was just on the operating table. Both bball coaches said new practice facility has been used plenty already & great selling point. Rick V said Vanderbelt visited our stadium because they heard such great things about it. Apparently building a new stadium. They loved it so much the toured the rest of our facilities. The Vandy people said you can't find these facilities at some SEC schools. That was pretty impressive. Felt last year was better with the giveaways, food, DJ. Still had a good time, thank you Jordan Case.

  20. Benford tends to oversell his players/commitments. Hopefully he'll learn (here or elsewhere) that not all fans are stupid. I like what recently passed Dallas Roosevelt coach Ellis Davis would say (back in the day) when someone would ask him about his upcoming team. "Man, I ain't got nothing". He would then go on to have one of the better teams in the state.

  21. Everyone knows we have to win and win big, but the athletic department and Coach Mac need to continue to get the students out to the games the way they did at the beginning of last season. I hope the issue with our fight song is over. That freshman class that showed up at the beginning of last season needs come back as sophomores and sing our fight song with pride, and lead by example. The new freshman class will need them on game day.

  26. Again a great post. I wish Benford and RV would have just said "last season was completely unacceptable, from the players' performance, to the coachs' performance, to the AD. We know this, and it won't happen again." Instead, we get the same old tired excuses while rumors about players are floated by members of the AD. Just step the F up and take responsibility.

  27. This entire administration is a pathetic embarrassment. Do you think any military personnel feels Obama has their back? Hell no. His only concern is insuring "social justice" by fundamentally changing America. He does not care about America, only his agenda.

  28. The underlying issue that he seemed to be skirting around is that there is currently a development of parity, where mid-majors are becoming more competitive. Ohio State almost got hit with a big upset in football last year, how embarrassing. Maybe if they could pay their athletes and the mid-majors can't, then that becomes less likely. See, to me, it almost seemed like he was trying to say that the rest of us SHOULDN'T be able to compete with them on a level playing field in football, just in basketball, so that's where we should stay equal and then let them do whatever they want to stay ahead of everyone else in football. Yes, pretentious tool, douche, antitrust monopolizer, he certainly sounds like all of those. But his pretentious douchiness does seem to have a tinge of concern that MTSU and others might actually be able to topple them as things continue to equalize.

  29. Katrina, 9/11, sandy hook, etc... Rahm Emanuel said "never let a crisis go to waste". This administration has attempted to use tragedy for political gain, now that they are on the other side of it I think it unfair to criticize someone for useing the same tactic against them.

  34. Would it be too much to ask setting up a round-robin style of series where UNT, SMU and TCU all play each other every season and then have some kind of rivalry trophy or something that goes to the team with the best head-to-head(to-head?) record afterward? Kind of like Army-Navy-Air Force do except minus the military part. I think that would be pretty awesome. Call it like the Metroplex Meleé or somesuch. Okay, so it's late at night and I'm wrapping up a work shift -- if you've got a better idea, let 'er rip! -- Franchise

  37. They'll keep it for track & field purposes until facilities are constructed at Eagle Point. See again: these slides from the Master Planning presentations recently. The demolition of those portions of the stands are within the 1-5 Phase (i.e. now) to make room for the visitor's center and such, and the track facilities across the highway will come sometime later.

  39. That was very interesting, I didn't like all the injury excuses; but it was a great read for a fan. The issue is that Benford lost a ton of creditability with some of his comments his first year. I hope he is correct about all the incoming players, but I certainly would not bank on it. Injury problems were bad last year, but they were far from unprecedented even at NT. Walton, the super player, no kidding I do like his play but if he had played all season: I am not sure NT would have won one more game. Other than getting Outlander's minutes, I don't think he is better than Alzee, Jordan or Chris. Benford looked to me like what he was last year, someone who had never coached a college basketball team. Even though I believe that Benford should have been terminated, I haven't gave up all hope that he can make NT the kind of program that he envisions.

  40. 5 home games in 2015? What the goddamn hell? Three away OOC games? Unacceptable. Are you kidding me? Two games at Iowa and no return game? That is like an FCS OOC schedule. How is that acceptable in the least bit? I'm disgusted. Shouldn't we be past this in CUSA? What the actual hell? I don't know what to say. Every other school can get return games. Maybe due to conference realignment we end up with 6 home games, but that Iowa series baffles me as does signing up another body bag game. Someone fire RV already before I just bail out.

  41. Top 25 may have been a stretch, but how many of you were warning that our lack of outside shooting was going to land us outside of the top 100? Top 200? I don't recall a single person here, in the media, or anywhere else warning that we were a Brandan Walton injury away from a 245 RPI finish.
