Rivals rated Young at 5.8 and Bergland at 5.7 (virtually even). Young Offers out of HS Texas Tech Arizona Baylor Rice SMU Bergland offers out of HS Kansas Boise Colorado Colorado State Duke Kansas State Minnesota San Diego State Tulsa UCLA Utah Washington State Wyoming Bergland was the Colorado HS Player of the Year, a member of the state championship relay team and finished 4th in the 200 meter. Not exactly void of talent. Tech did not have a returning starting QB so it was much easier for Young to step in. Bergland is as good as catch for us and Young was for Tech.2 points

Not surprised NT loses players to just about anybody. However, didn't he say that one of the main reasons he transferred is to get in a more up tempo offense? ASU never struck me as an up tempo team. This looks like someone who wanted out and didn't much care where.1 point

Wrong. Plenty of bad teams had players drafted. It's a demonstration of the fact that our strength/conditioning program was designed for a high school program for 4 years.1 point

Poor guy! No way i would wear any of my Okie State stuff to Jazzfest. Can you imagine the beating I would take on here if i was spotted at Jazzfest (at the UNT beer booth perhaps) wearing any of my Okie State Orange stuff????1 point

My wife, daughter and I moved to Denton in 2005 so I could work on my PhD at UNT. My wife was very reluctant to move there. We all ended up loving Denton. It was the best of "small town" life combined with major metropolitan areas just 30 to 40 minutes nearby, which we frequently took advantage of (malls, Mavs, etc). She found a great job there too (actually closer to Dallas). We left in July 2011 to move to Corpus after I completed my degree and other licensure requirements so I could join my father in practice, which was a life dream, so there was no option to stay in Denton. However, we could have easily lived there for the rest of our lives - no problem at all - we liked it that much. I've been back once already to a UNT game since I left, and I plan to return again hopefully at least one time per year.1 point

I think this is a "culture" problem more than anything. I have a daughter who is starting to play a little, so I follow both men & women. I would think the transfers are more with the men than the women because of exposure of the game I would think, could be wrong though. You would think it would be the other way around because my wife changes her mind more than her underwear. Football players often can't transfer because the penalty of sitting out is lost when they redshirt. In golf and other individual sports it doesn't really matter because if you can perform individually, who cares? In basketball, its an epidemic and from what I've read so far, the damage is minimal here at UNT and maybe necessary. Have a buddy who shared this with me today because when we both played, it was so different...probably has alot to do with transfers to, I'm sure this culture change is hard for the coaches as well. In my business, with these attitudes there would be plenty of transfers... http://espn.go.com/blog/dave-telep/post/_/id/3494/the-entitlement-culture-of-elite-hs-hoops1 point

I had contacted the owners of this site as I discovered this a few years ago. I told him the specific players in that list that didn't go to NT, but rather went to UT. They responded they'd update it accordingly. Glad to see they kept their word...1 point

Just to clarify a couple of things and avoid confusion: 1) Unless you require students to vote (and let's face it, compulsory voting is not only difficult but can be argued is a violation of their rights if they choose to abstain), the percentage of voter turnout in our student elections is actually considerably higher than the average local election turnout, both in the City of Denton, Denton County, and nationwide. All are equally eligible to vote, but most have not yet learned to accept that making their vote a priority will help them be a part of the overall decision-making process. As we see with the national city/county/etc averages, many people never learn that. At least UNT students are already at a higher percentage than most other University and local electorates. 2) I hope it didn't seem like I was trying to persuade everyone to get students to file for fee waivers. There is a lot of paperwork involved and if you don't meet the state and University guidelines for a waiver, you end up wasting your time so it's good to check into the requirements before trying. I knew of a couple of people who got waivers before...but out of tens of thousands, I think I met two. So it's a pretty rare thing, but again, if you're eligible, won't want to use ANY of those services, and as UNTFan23 pointed out, want to have to pay at that time and maybe not even sit with your friends, that's your choice. It's important to know both sides of the situation before even considering it.1 point

Exactly...seems Coach Mac signed the QB he wanted to sign and the one he feels fits the need better at UNT. It happens all the time. I wish Scotty nothing but the best at La Tech unless he's playing UNT. But, since he is at La Tech I could not care less about the facts of his brief flirtation with UNT. Did not work out at UNT. Time to move along. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ On the other hand, he may be really sorry that he's not here.1 point

I was thinking about starting a thread like this. Brelan chancellor has NFL speed. Also, I could see Jimmerson doing something with his bulk and shiftiness. He could use a little more speed though1 point

As a Maverick Alum, I am really disappointed. I very much doubt that JJ would ever have backed down from this rivalry. Sure, UTA has "owned" UNT 7 of the last 9 times we've played, but I'm old enough to remember the 70s and 80s. From 1973 to 1983 North Texas beat us 8 of 11 games, yet nobody in Arlington even considered giving up on the series. Streaks happen: That's just the way things go with good rivalries. I hope this is just a temporary setback and that the series will be renewed. It's bad enough that TCU and SMU are afraid to play. I never thought UNT was like that. We'll really miss you guys next season at College Park Center. I'm particularly sorry not to see Alzee Williams play again. He, unlike Benford, is a class act.1 point

I was thinking today, what's worst.. 10 Consecutive NFL drafts a UNT Football player has not been drafted, or Cleveland Browns 10 consecutive seasons without making it in the playoffs??? To me it's UNT, reason it takes a team to win games, but you're telling me not 1 player in 10 years has enough talent to be drafted. Who does that reflect poorly on... The players, the coaches, or just possible both? Don't get me wrong, Craig and Lance are friends of mine, I think very highly of them. But that's just 2 gems that fell threw the crack, where's everyone else?0 points

Yep...that was common knowledge by all who paid any attention at all. That was no secret...he knew he was not going to be UNT's starter...he wants to start, and he has the ability to do so in some systems...like perhaps JJ's and/or Arky State's. PJ's transferring has much more to do with PJ and his wishes...as he said about furthering his basketball career than it does with UNT. Can't blame him at all if he thinks he can get more playing time elsewhere. I just wonder if it will actually happen at Arky State. For his sake, I sure hope so.0 points
