  1. This. I love how intently Harry, NT03, and Vito are following our finish in recruiting but I just don't see how any of the guys are going to be better than who we're losing, mainly Tony Mitchell. 12 wins with last years squad in the Sun Belt, what potential roster of ours could turn that around in CUSA with Benford still as our coach? Benford could eff up a wet dream.

  2. Do you ever think before you post? That had to be the most childish, uncalled for bunch of dribble I've read in a while. If the coaches truly did not trust DT, he wouldn't still be the starter in spite of 2012. Hell, if you want to see who the coaches don't trust, his name is Brent Osborn. BB is clearly unproven and according to your staff (and from the practice videos and spring game) DT is the best you guys have. Instead of making post insulting and bashing your QB, at least give constructive crticism on why you don't like him under center.

  3. I'm sorry, it almost sounded like you had actual expectations for this team next year.

  4. I'm confused...are you guys saying that our soccer coach also coaches tennis now? If so...how much does he know about basketball?

  6. That's because we almost refuse to throw the ball in the 1st quarter. What I would give for a play action deep ball on the 1st play of this game, even if it is intercepted. But that will never happen.

  7. These uniforms really aren't that bad. Definitely not the worst I've seen the past few years. And Oregon has no taste in uniforms. When teams change their uniforms EVERY week it just means they have no tradition or culture to hang on to.

  8. Congratulations to the tennis ladies of the mean green nation, who have just won the Sun Belt Championship for the second year in a row!! They defeat Georgia State University 4-2 in the finals

  10. I suggest you review my basketball posts in Sept or Oct. and you will find very positive posts. Ever think the destruction of this basketball program may have something to do with my attitude?

  11. According to any film BB is the far superior QB. DT is only the starter because BB was hurt all spring and has barely run our offense with the starting unit. It baffles me when people say DT gives us the best chance to win next year. Didnt his crappy performances last year prove he's incapable of leading us to a winning record? The games we won last year were despite of DT's play, not because of it. The coaches are waiting to hand the team over to BB. Once he's healthy and shows he has a firm grasp of the Playbook the team will be his. I'm not sure when it will happen, but by the time we head to NOLA next fall BB will be QB #1.

  14. No it is not a drop in the bucket. There is nothing guaranteeing that loads of almni would return because we play memphis instead of ECU. I personally believe that is a pipe dream. To me, what will make them come is winning and (local) rivals, no matter what conference. Also unless we get this by donations if we are making about 1 to 1.5 million per year more in revenue (I don't know if that number is accurate but from what I see from TV contract etc it seems ballparkwise ok to me), then it takes us half a decade or more just to break even, while we are competing cash strapped against (slightly) better competition. And that is in the best case scenario, where the conference will stay stable; recent history tells us that this is not exceedingly probable.

  15. Take a look at the CUSA East. You honestly think they wouldn't bolt in a second? No doubt they would. No doubt that we would, either.

  16. "The NCAA men's selection show is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30 at ncaa.com, with the women's selection show following at 5:30 p.m." More than likely will be a #3 or #4 seed right on the border. A&M is the top Texas School so they will host. UT/TCU/Baylor/Tech all outside of Top 16 right now so would not host. Still have Big 12 Tournament to go, Rice could slip in as a host as they just won the CUSA tournament, Houston would be a great trip for the ladies, Rice is good but beatable.

  17. Like I said last week. You guys might seriously lose to Idaho. Those Petrinos can turn around any program.

  18. Our very first spring game drew a huge crowd considering the times. The major complaints were not enough hitching posts for the horses, having to walk across campus and the Denia people picketing the game due to the smell from the additional manure from the extra traffic.

  19. All 6'8" ball players should be able to make a simple dunk. This video shows me nothing about how he can help this club do better than last year. Very standard issue stuff here.

  20. No it doesn't. Quit fooling yourself. Interest does not mean scholarship. Do you seriously think those schools would have "backed-off" because of a relationship with UNT? If those schools had offered Flannigan, he most likely would not be a UNT commit today. JUCO coaches have to recruit, also. Just a coach 1) saying nice things about a kid that helped his program, and 2) building his résumé with future recruits. Nice to see a commit, but I'll hold any excitement until he signs. Rebounding numbers are also concerning if we plan to play him at the 4 or 5 spot.

  22. I completely agree. This goes back to our "they don't trust DT" argument. Also feel that Byrd wasted some good blocking last year, even against heavy fronts, because he runs with his head down and doesn't look for the holes. Byrd does appear to have improved in that regard, but Jimmerson is just too electric to not be our feature back if he's healthy. Jim Jim is a freak of nature. Last year he played at about 5'8 and 219 lbs. To be as agile and shifty as he was at that weight was special and fun to watch. If we are going to be as run heavy in the first quarter we should give the ball to someone who can make something happen.

  23. Don't see much difference in his style of play (and slender build) to that of 6-7 Greg Wesley. Still have not addressed our need for a (starting) power forward and center. Hopefully help is on the way in these key areas of need.

  26. Yes and just like the Belt to CUSA and CUSA to AAC stampede, every team now in CUSA would most likely bolt for the AAC at a minute notice. There is a hierarchy to conferences and all this talking about overtaken a better situated conference is just that nothing but talk. The problem with all this CUSA teams will get better and bypass AAC scenarios is that as soon as a team get that strong they will most likely be off to the better perceived league.

  27. So it's now the off-season for major varsity sports at North Texas hence.... The below most interesting thoughts from a USM fan, ie, cyc46, on the CUSAbbs board: "Well there are several things that the AAC members need to keep in mind when trashing CUSA. First we (new CUSA) are getting MORE BCS revenue than ever before with the new Go5 agreement. 2nd our contract has not changed (the AAC's has drastically and not in a good way). Your marketing plan failed, your commissioner failed (oh how many times I heard how Arsenco was going to get you BIG money) and CUSA isn't starting over from a marketing perspective. Do you think the average fan of the Big 10 even knows what the AAC is yet? For better or worse CUSA has 15 years of name recognition and the AAC doesn't even have a months worth yet. The AAC has no accomplishments sure the teams within the AAC has accomplishments but none of those are under the AAC banner. Also don't forget SMU Tulsa Memphis UCF - CUSA to a large part helped build you. CUSA will do just as well with FAU FIU UTSA North Texas Charlotte and ODU heck in some cases a few years down the road it may even be much better for them than you. But just in case some of you don't believe me here is a short version of everything previously claimed by defector schools: You all continually talked about how you were going to remain in the Big 6 (now Big 5), you guys continually claimed how you were going to get 100 Bazillion dollars for tv revenue, you guys continually claimed that your basketball was going to be helped out by playing teams like Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette etc, you guys continually claimed you would keep the Big East name, you guys continually claimed you would keep your marque bowls. Those are just a few from the greatest hits library. Truth is you got 2 million per team, a brand new conference, no traditional Big East basketball schools to play, and from all indications a reduced bowl line up. Basically the difference is the new CUSA knows where it is and what its market is. The AAC thought it had a market, basically it finds out its on the same footing as CUSA. Bigger step up for the Sunbelt schools to CUSA than it was for the CUSA schools to the AAC and I think that in the long run is where you will see the most improvement is from the Sunbelt and IAA schools in CUSA versus the CUSA schools to the AAC because you've maxed your potential and moving from CUSA 2 to CUSA 1 isn't going to be the great boom many of you claimed it would be. I'd also like to point out just because I am in a snarky mood today that those Big East Time Squares Banners are pretty freaking hilarious now."

  28. Same weekend as GASO, I'm sure that's where Benford will be. Wouldn't be surprised if Lundy is in Georgia tho. This staff has recruited that area since they've got here Showcase is for all levels. I noticed Chad Frazier on that list. Former A&M commit who Is highly regarded

  30. I saw Randle when Prestonwood beat Liberty in the TAPPS championship this year. He has a LOT of growing up to do... You guys thought Tony acted like a child sometimes when things didn't go his way? For the near future Julius Randle is a tween stuck in a very big man's body.

  37. I feel no sorrow for him. Yes he was influenced by his brother. But this wasn't stealing a pack of cigerettes, or liquor from your dad's cabinet. The little bitch dropped a bomb at the foot of an 8 year old. What the hell did he think would happen, it would blow the child into the air and he would land on a soft fluffy mattress being held by Grover and Elmo? He should be held as an enemy combantant, but I believe this administration has said that it would not prosecute citizens as enemy comantants. Maybe that's what they were waiting for? The 19yo only became a citizen on September 11, oddly enough.

  40. A lot of credit for this goes to the academic support folks in the athletic department. Compared to how things were when I first arrived at UNT, they have really stepped up monitoring of student athlete performance in the classroom over the course of the semester. I now get a request for information on the status of athletes in my classes every couple of weeks from the athletic department.
