  1. All I know... When I watched the spring game the two best QB's on the field were Andrew McNutly and Brock Berglund. The coach's job is to put the best product out on the field they can. I have no reason to believe that they would not put the best product out on the field. This leads me to believe that whomever has the best fall will be the starting QB. Things I don't know... Who will have the best fall? Who will be healthy? The rest is a mystery. Many days until Fall practice begins. Not a whole lot of point in discussing it further until that time. You must remember it's Coach Mac's job to put the best players out on the field. If Brock's the best, he'll play. If it's McNutly, he'll play. If it's Jordan Gill, he'll play. If it's Thompson, he'll play. We have no reason to believe that Coach Mac has not put his best players out on the field so long as he's been the coach here.

  2. Who can tell? Its a "Riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma". (Churchill on Stalin.) The frustrating thing is that we now have to wait over four months before we have any idea who will emerge as our quarterback. I hate this life.

  4. Before the Fall semester started, I took my car up to the Goodyear on University Drive. As I waited for the courtesy shuttle, I struck Wup a conversation with an older gentleman. As the conversation steered towards football, He mentioned his grandson was Scotty. he said Scotty's choice was UNT, but McCarney was holding a scholarship for another quarterback. That was before Bergland had transferred.

  5. Yes. BB spent last year running the scout team. I wish Gill would have been given this job to allow BB to run and learn our system. McNulty needed to mature physically, which he has. I find it amazing that this has to be explained.

  9. We will not win 4 games with Thompson as our QB next season, I don't care what kind of spring he had. ESPECIALLY if we are changing to more of a zone read offense. I was hoping that Brock would come out and dominate...he didn't...and if that leaves Thompson as our best option, we are honestly in trouble. It isn't that he is a bad guy, not tough, doesn't bleed green...he just isn't accurate and doesn't possess the arm to be an effective QB. I know some will mention the WRs last season...but in response to that I will mention the HUGE amount of errant throws that were thrown every game that had nothing to do w/ WRs. He is not a runner, not an accurate passer, doesnt have a quick release, and I wouldn't say he has a big arm. My only hope this season is that Brock can win it in fall practice before Idaho comes to town. I am going to, for the first time since I've been watching the Mean Green, come into the season with negative expectations this season if DT is our QB because our offense will continue not to score. FIFTEEN years I've been a homer calling for bowl games, and if DT is our QB it will be the first I will be predicting less than 4 wins...AND the first time EVER I will not be eagerly anticipating the start of the season. If I'm wrong, I wil gladly eat crow...I just don't see that happening w/ DT as our QB...sorry to seem negative...just trying to vent honestly.

  10. I love it when guys from the hood come back around to laugh at their poor brethren and flaunt their recent success...when yall go back to your old ways, which will be to fight Baylor for last place in your conference, you both will find out something that your fanbases know deep down inside will happen to you both in the near future. When the big names in your conference figure out a way to join the other conferences they really want to be a part of, (IOW, not the Big XII), you guys are gonna get left behind. For TCU, that will be deja vu...all of those improvements to AGC will be awesome when you are playing teams again from the MWC or the AAC again. But for now, enjoy your time at the big table and all of the appetizers--I doubt you'll get to enjoy dessert, so I hope that dinner salad and the roll taste pretty good. But don't be surprised when Texas pisses on your main course, again. And then the sad reality will settle in for you all, just as it will for SMU, UH, UTEP, Tulane, Tulsa, and all the other "poors". In the end, none of us bring enough, cumulatively, to the table to be a future player at FBS. We don't have the combination of enrollment, fanbase, TV market, success, or political power that all of the big state schools and a very few private schools have. I know you don't want to believe this, but you guys aren't gonna get included either. You will get to understand the true feeling of the nut kick known as "reclassification". Trust me, we are the only ones in the state that knows how that feels. We aren't going to be that hurt when it happens because we haven't known anything better than what we have now. But y'all have--and the pain of your drop will be more painful than the combination of what both UNT and SMU have felt in the ways that we have been left behind in the course of history, both recent and past. Of course, by then, you'll probably just change your user tag to "Longhorn Style"--which will be ironic, since you'll feel as if you got "froggy-styled" by them when its all said and done. Mark my words--your gonna be right back where we all are now, only this time you'll get to bring the ultimate tick on the hound, Baylor, with you.

  11. Found a great, white jersey from with no name on it. It was from the era when the numbers were outlined in blue and we had the old copper star logo. Looked like it had never been worn. greenjoe, the companies provide those shoes, and considering we are now sponsored by Nike, they were selling the New Balance and UA shoes. I think the UA shoes came with a coupon for foot surgery.

  12. Why does the Athletic Department have so many new unused shoes ? Are they buying wrong ? Aren't the shoes still usable for new players ? And what kind of facility have all these items been stored in for several years ? I know it was billed as a "garage sale" but no garage sale I've ever been to has had merchandise so poorly displayed. Next year I'm going to volunteer my wife to whip this thing into shape. A fun afternoon anyway. Nice to see friends during the off season. GO MEAN GREEN

  13. Greetings from cold Wisconsin. Let me fill you in on Coach Lundy, he is not going to tell you something that is not true. The only reason that coach would even entertain a D2 job would be to get closer to his sons. I'm certain that the job was offered and after careful thought Coach decided that UNT was the place for him. From my point of view UNT is very lucky to have this coach at this time.

  16. Your point was Tony Mitchell didn't work hard enough, that's why you posted it in a thread about... Tony Mitchell. So don't act all high and mighty when people discuss the football 2 deep. Really interesting double standard you have about basketball players and football QBs.

  17. They played that at the Eagle Emerald Honors tonight. Great program and Drew Pearson did a great "homage," as Peter Weller called it, to MJG. The marching band came down the aisles from the back, got to the front, turned to Mean Joe and played the fight song. Have to say it was the best version I have ever heard...Meyerson acoustics, I suppose. Great evening for NT. GMG

  21. What press clippings does BB have to read? He didn't even get a mention in the FWST story. The kid injures his hamstring and all of a sudden people label him a diva who hasn't grasped the offense yet. Stupid.

  22. So many quality guys declaring daily; pushing Tony further down in the 1st round and possibly into the second round. (non guaranteed contract) Would he consider a return to the team (if he does not have an agent) in hopes of improving his stock in 2014? Britney Griner goes ahead of Mitchell at this point!

  25. Point being, many times young men with his talent don't learn to work hard in high school when they can get by on talent alone. Plus, many times their coaches make the situation worse by coddling them.

  27. DT has made more mistakes than any other position.. He was top 10 in the BCS for least sacks, and he cant run. Threw 14 TDs and 14 Ints, and from what I remember they werent a lot of tip balls or anything, just bad passes. Throws off of his back foot 85% of the time. Cant get his eye off one WR. He almost made a field goal from the 25 yard line, and he had a wide open receiver. He doesnt have great footwork. Doesnt have a tight spiral nor that accurate. The only reason why DT has won the starting job is because they cant get anyone else, besides BB and we will see how the QB battle goes in the fall. Dont get me wrong, hes a great guy. I was all over the DT bandwagon when he was battling Tune Daddy, but I made a mistake and Ill move on to the next guy.

  34. Sorry, but if I had never seen any of the last 4 years of NT football and came to watch the Spring Game, I would have thought McNulty was the starter but BB was going to push him very soon. DT would have been 3rd choice and I would have wondered why he played so much.
    1 point
  35. What have you seen from DT that gives you confidence he can lead this team to more than 4 wins? His sub-par speed? mediocre arm strength? throwing off his back foot while having all day to throw? What improvements did you see in the spring game? Because I saw the same old inconsistent garbage. Crappy throwing motion, under throwing receivers, and no playmaking ability. It doesn't take a football mastermind to see that BB is the far superior QB. And yes, he's FAR superior.

  36. Terrible thread...some of the same folks knocking folks for daring to say that the BB players had even a little to do with the season's outcome, now jump all over DT after a spring game...a SPRING game mind you! Plus the folks most adamant that the players had nothing to do with the BB season's outcome remain silent here with DT taking so much flak. This competition will be won during fall ball...DT did a good bit this spring to solidify his position as starter (if you attended any practices and earlier scrimmages you saw some of this), but according to Coach Mac he is not naming a starter at this time. BB was injured most of the spring so it's pretty inconclusive from that side of the coing...apparantly McNulty has improved a good bit as well this spring. It is looking to me like we might see multiple QB's on the field this next year given the situation with one getting the majority of snaps. We'll see, we will all see. Those thinking DT is not capable of winning this battle just simply do not know DT, nor are they capable of getting past their emotions long enough to even try to see the improvements. Four wins? Ridiculous! I think we will all know soon enough...and that soon enough will be just prior to the Idaho game!

  37. No. Science doesn't say emotions don't exist. For science to study emotion and reach a conclusion about whether any particular emotion exists, one would first have to define the terms so that the study could be conducted objectively. Oh, and science can study religion - it's a productive field within anthropology. What science has a hard time with is the study of 'God'. He/She/It can't be seen, heard, touched, or smelled. That doesn't mean God doesn't exist, only that science works on data - not magic.

  38. I don't think he is a diva. My speculation that he is still learning the offense comes from observing him interacting with Canales all day during the scrimmage. I hope it clicks because he has athleticism that we have rarely, if ever, seen at the QB position in Denton. Reminds me of a bigger Scott Davis. DT looks the same, just a little lighter, which is good and bad. His TD pass late was an excellent throw, but then his next one will be a wobbler down field. It is frustrating because he has all the physical tools. McNulty stood out to me. Poised in the pocket, pretty consistent throwing the ball except for one at a wide open receivers feet. His glaring weakness is having an awareness of pressure and protecting the ball.

  39. Gotta disagree with a few of your points there. First I will reiterate what has been said, by all accounts I think DT is a stand up guy, hard worker, leader, great heart etc. Its not personal, but we did lose some games based on just QB play last year. 2nd, our coach did inherit and group that has some huge gaps, and 3rd, the talent and depth has improved since he took over. How our coaches got the results they did out of our defense last season is nothing short of retarded good. Our prior coaching staff maybe would have won 2 games in the past 2 years with the exact same players - so I say our coaches seem to know what they are doing. Is it all on DT's play alone, no. Is that a position that can win or lose a game for you all by themselves, yes. Did we lose some games at QB last year - yes. Did we win some games last year at QB - no. I think the issue of this thread isn't really should DT be QB or not. The issue is that if DT is QB again, even if he earns it in practice, that isn't raising alot of hope in the fan base. As far as whats the right thing for the on the field team, I don't know the answer in DT vs Brock, but I trust the coaching staff will do the best thing for the team, not for marketing.

  41. Happy that Derek is still the starter. However, the game is won and lost on the lines. If the defensive line can't hold up its end of the bargain, we will have a losing season again no matter who the QB is. Derek is solid, experienced, and level-headed. Hurray for Derek Thomspson!

  42. Kaspar's bread and butter is defense. His SFA te had a streak of around 68 games in a row where no team scored over 70. When you keep your opponents from scoring, you have a chance to win the game, no matter how bad your team shoots. Players like to win, whatever the system. Look for Tx St. to out-recruit UNT next year if Benford is given a 3rd season (which he will, because if there is one thing UNT athletics does, it's waiting too long to fire bad coaches).

  44. That is understandable within human reason. But you have to understand that, according to God, DEATH (eternal separation from Him) is the only option for sin. As for the animal sacrifice: because He loves His people, He provided a substitutionary death to forgive their sins. The last substitutionary sacrifice has been made, and it was Jesus. Sacrificing animals is not going to cut it any more. As for genocide, I'm assuming you mean God's demand of the Israelites to conquer the promised land by eradicating all inhabitants? By that time, God had chosen the Israelites as His people. Others were in sin, and as stated above, death is the only option for sin. As for stoning of adulters: once again, sin deserves death. Christ threw the ultimate wrench in this as he granted mercy to a prostitute and the favorite verse of all non-Christians was uttered: "Let him who is without sin, cast the first stone", meaning, "your sin is just as bad as hers." Voila! Grace to sinners! All you have to do is believe. It's interesting that most people will pull from the old testament law in order to criticize the new covenant of grace in Christianity. Now we as Christians are called to live like Christ. Of course, we're still fallen, so we're not perfect. And, admittedly/unfortunately, no one does more damage to the beauty of Christ than His own followers, and moreso, His pseudo-followers.

  45. What does age have to do with anything? We had a 70 something in our academy class and he out shot all of us and he was of very sound mind When we arrive on the scene and tell you to drop your weapon, you do so. You will be handcuffed until we establish you are one of the good guys. Plus I believe all school districts have their teachers wear ID's now. Unless I am mistaken, noone carries firearms on a military base except MP's and civillian police. As for the Luby's incident, there was not concealed carry at the time, which is why people were leaving their guns in their cars. Eff that, I'd take a flamethrower It's strictly voluntary. Not every school district has the luxary of having SROs. Also, when your life is on the line, waiting for police, even in a big city, seconds seem like hours. Even for that one police officer, or security guard, it's nice to have backup Wow, 8? That's like a HUGE majority of the cops out there.
