Don't forget the designers of Apogee who cut the field off at 120 yards and then put up a wall behind the end zone.3 points

I'd contend that a person who grew up in the 80s in England would have better base of knowledge to form an opinion than a dude posting from his phone to a Texas university fan board.3 points

The problem is some of us have to go out of our way to go to a game. That's my situation. I'll be at the UTEP game, maybe a few others when it's convenient, but I won't renew season tickets. It's hard to support a program that the university isn't interested in supporting.2 points

Found some interesting items with regard to pro-parks. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/stadium/ballpark_NSEW_NL.shtml http://www.baseball-almanac.com/stadium/ballpark_NSEW_AL.shtml Also, read a blurb about architects computer modeling of ball parks and found this: "Computer modeling the path of the sun in 10-minute increments throughout the season is standard procedure for stadium architects." So perhaps, that master plan just has the ball park laid in at its current orientation simply as FPO ("For Position/Placement Only). And perhaps it was done that way because they haven't modeled it yet and just went with the easiest way to get it into the doc.2 points

If only we played in an air conditioned dome too. Or if North Texas was only located in San Diego.......... Rick2 points

I agree. It wasn't DT's fault he stunk. If people watched the games closer they would have noticed some of his own teammates regularly shoving him in the chest causing him to throw inaccurately off his back foot. Add that to receivers never almost never being in the places he threw the ball to or an offensive line that gave him too much time thus not keeping him on his toes in the pocket... no one could have succeeded.2 points

Typical air head on campus. Few have been shown that athletic events can actually be a part of their social life. A quality product on the field that at least wins at home would sure help.2 points

And places the sun right in the face of the home side fans, the home dug out and every first baseman taking throws for that easy out. Like the waste-of-space wing zone section, this needs to be addressed, but hopefully BEFORE it's built. Rick2 points

You couldn't be more right. You know, cuz pushing that big bag of nothin' Trey Norris out the door didn't bite us in the ass AT ALL. And Bumford is bringing in so much proven talent right now that we can ignore the fact that kids are fleeing like upper class white folks to a Titanic life boat. Nope, no need for experienced backups on this 12-20 juggernaut. Jesus, Ford motor company would've just loved to have you working in promotions when the Pinto came out.2 points

I wouldn't say all powerful but a message board can sure swing the pendulum for a recruit with options. I don't know of a single recruit, or a recruits parents, that haven't checked out a schools message board before making a decision that will impact their lives over the next 4-5 years or longer. The frequency of your negative posts do much more harm than good in my opinion. When I hear someone griping as much as you do, I pretty much write that persons opinions off as worthless but not everyone thinks that way.2 points

First off nobody “quits” on their route. To use that as an excuse is crazy. DTs receivers last year were significantly better than the year before, but his stats were drastically worse. I guess the receiver quit on the route at WKU when he threw a pick six that lost us the game. If this guy was the leader that you make him out to be he would get the receivers on the same page by any means necessary. All I saw him do was come off the field yelling at his receivers but not trying to correct the problem. Blaming his poor performances on others is nothing more than childish. He and everyone else on here needs to own up to the fact that he was very bad last year. For us to go to a bowl game he is going to have to make major changes to his game other than losing ten pounds. He needs to be focusing on getting better at throwing which at this point in his career will be a tall task considering some of the horrible habits that he has accumulated over the last couple years.1 point

So which one of CJ, Alzee, or TJ do you see him beating out on a consistent basis Mr Barnum? Oh no, how will we ever replace a 5'8" guard? I wish he would not have left, especially after we invested so many minutes in him that could have gone elsewhere, but he is a nomad with a chip on his shoulder.1 point

um yeah, that's it. I think Benford has big east caliber center to sell you and PT Barnum thinks you are great.1 point

They are for darn sure building for a big time 40-45,000 enrollment university in Denton but for the moment that is where the big time ends. (I like their ideas for Apogee Stadium and the new hotel and conference center at the Mean Green Village/Apogee area, too). We've just got to start putting round pegs into round holes with our key hires in Denton instead of what we've been doing, ie, round in square which has us where we are today especially since our school's athletic stock has not risen dramatically or significently for so long. This upcoming new main UNT campus president hire may be the most important hire for us in that position in a very long time. We cannot afford to miss on this one. GMG!1 point

The AD has gotten plenty of heat. Why do you think RV watched from the tunnels? I know of two longtime season ticket holders who gave up at the midway point of the season and sent their remaining tickets directly to him. Booing a coach or turning your back will not force anybody's hand to make a change.1 point

I hope that is a sign that PJ thinks the guys we have are better than he is and that he wasn't likely to beat them out next season.1 point

What matters is we have the best QB out there leading the offense. From the sounds of the articles I have read it seems as though the spring was a time for people to step up and earn a spot and beat out the starters if you weren't one. Hard to hand the reigns over to a QB that hasn't played football in a couple years vs. a 2 year Starter senior if he can't play or practice due to injury. I am thankful to have DT, and hope his senior year is his best of his career. GMG1 point

OK, this is a good discussion. Here are our home attendance numbers in order from the 2004-05 season through this past one: 2285, 2147, 2067, 3178, 3004, 2716, 3552, 4006, 3518. I think it's pretty obvious that we were solidly trending upward, and that shift began after our appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2007. You're right that our best average, 4006, is still way too low, but it is worlds better than the 1200 average you mention in years past. So, there are two points that we should take away from these numbers. 1. In recent years there does seem to be a correlation between success and attendance. 2. 3000-4000 may not be great, but it took us a long way to even work up to that, and all indications seemed to be that we were, for the most part, on an upward swing. Thus, we still do have a long way to fall, and averaging around 1000 will essentially set us decades behind. Falling that far in such a short amount of time would be absolutely catastrophic to our program . . . and it is almost inevitable, barring a dramatic change.1 point

I'm relatively certain that Reality Check's suggestion of booing at the Coach's Caravan was meant more as hyperbole than a literal statement. Also, let me clarify that I am not in any way advocating not showing up at home games. However, our (those on this board) frustrations are somewhat suggestive of our alumni as a whole. If people on here are becoming disenchanted with our performances on game day, imagine what the average alum thinks? They probably went back to not caring one bit about our basketball team the minute we lost to UAH. Now that they see that our leadership intends to do absolutely nothing about the problem, they won't attend a game for years to come. The way things are headed, 2500 is VERY optimistic for the next few seasons.1 point

I'm frustrated as well. However, not attending games only proves what some recruits already think-that playing at North Texas means playing to only 2,500 fans. And the notion of booing a coach at the Coach's Caravan is not only a bad PR idea, it's rude. If one is unhappy with a coach or an AD employee or a program, a letter to the AD will get his attention and, I would think, a written reply. I don't know if a single letter will get the desired results or not, but a flood of letters would certainly get some consideration. GO MEAN GREEN1 point
