Am I missing something? Is Brock not the newest guy on the block who's just getting over a hamstring injury? I've been saying for months that Mac wouldn't start Brock over the senior captain no matter what.... but I think everyone is reading a bit much into the 3rd string business.5 points

1) Don't like the direction the stadium is facing. Wish the back drop would be Apogee. 2) Are we proposing building off campus buildings where Sack-and-Save and that strip mall is? If I read the map correctly that is what the plan looks like. That would eliminate a nice eye sore.5 points

It is tough when NT's athletic program was above Tulsa, Cincy, Louisville, Memphis, Wichita State, and many more newbies that have passed NT by in the last four decades. Over that period of time, however each school has had a number of AD's and adminstrations to lead them forward. I am certainly not happy were the athletic program is right now unlike some who compare it with NT's rather dismal athletic history, and think NT is progressing. NT's facilites are now a positive for a lower tier program, but the football program is struggling and MBB has crashed and burned. IMO, next year should determine the faith of RV as well as McCarney and Benford.5 points

I have it on good authority we're going to sign some impacts players a week or so from now. I'm talking ballers, I'm talking 6'5 power forwards with 34" wingspans and shooting guards who shoot at a 24% clip. There is no need to worry, GMG!!!!!!3 points

This is what happens when you REFUSE to fix a terrible mistake. 2 dominoes down, how many more to go?? FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!3 points

There will be no changes. The BOR sees the same incremental improvements that you and I do and, since we are only committed to paying lip service to big time athletics, these improvements will be pointed to as progress enough to maintain the status quo. Don't believe me? Ask someone from the BOR how much of the Goldfield million we have taken in. Or, how much of that 22 million that our Asian benefactor pledged we have seen. Ask anyone from the AD where we stand, in a brand new stadium, as far as season ticket sales. Ask what the "goal" is for this season. You can be either outrageously successful and secretive about your methods, or you can be mediocre and be transparent to try to get people on board and fired up...you can't have it both ways. We still think we can...and we still get the same results.3 points

CUSA needs to put the brakes on and stay at 14. Thought we were moving up FROM the Sun Belt, not WITH it.3 points

Do you ever wonder why schools that we were playing in the 70's have taken different routes to success. Each one has had AD's that could face problems and find an answer. They had a plan for the future (ie. goals). Look where we are currently. Being invited to a new conference (sbII), because we are near Dallas saving our bacon because the conference home base is there and there were no other teams that didn't have a dancing partner around!2 points

i have never seen more positives in one thread than this one...everyone is giving positives...that has to be a negative towards benford...damn...other than the cash and job security, it must suck to be him... reload the positives for today harry!2 points

If Polk can get consistent pressure on passing downs, that could have a HUGE impact on the defense (assuming we have even an average run defense. That's a big assumption with the lack of DT depth). As long as we don't move him to DT...2 points

I will never understand why they can't mike up the questioners at the press conferences so we can hear the questions.2 points

You are dangerously close to a -1 with this post. I'll let you go with a yellow card this time. Please go and meditate on ways you can purge your UNT90 thought patterns. If you need inspiration, focus on in-state programs and dropping ULM. Carry on and stop ruining my CUSA buzz.2 points

Full compliment of 13 players? Can't wait to see who we sign in one week. Benford's recruiting style makes Dickey look transparent.2 points

Why don't you just tell us if you already know, I mean, there are only a few options and you just removed one of them?2 points

My uneducated guess would be CJ. Multiple heads should roll over this. But we are UNT, and we just don't care.2 points
-
We raised 3 million in 30 days. If the AD were honest with donors and wanted to get this done, they could. Instead, we just cross our fingers and pray something changes. Mind boggling.2 points

BYU isn't in the PAC for religous reasons, their academics are perfectly fine. Boise and UNLV won't get in due to academics. USF and UCF are tossups for the ACC but seeing that Temple and UH are thought of as more valuable than the Florida schools and Memphis according to their media contract and ESPN placing UH as the 2nd most valuable non-AQ school (BYU is #1), it wouldn't surprise me to see them taken by a gutted ACC or something. That being said, UH's geography would put them on an island in that scenario. I could see UH potentially go to the PAC IF and ONLY IF the Pac can't get ahold of UT/Tech/OU/OSU and seeing that UT does not want to give up the LHN, then rthat would leave the door potentially open for the Cougars. SMU won't be going anywhere. They are trying to ride UH's coattails but it's only a matter of time before they get cut loose. Their support is as bad as UNT's the only reason they've gotten as far as they have is because of recent winning and $$$.2 points

Call me crazy... But in my UNT fan head: Getting to conference tournament championship game = getting to low level bowl game Winning conference tournament championship game = winning low level bowl game First round tournament game (non play in bulsh)= playing in late December bowl game Winning first round tournament game = SUPERBOWL2 points

Can someone release a Mike Rice type video of Benford? Honestly though, Benford is harsh verbally like Rice was to his players in practices. You have to be tough on your players, but Benford has been known to cross the line. Another big reason why his players don't want to play for him.2 points

I don't see anyone else leaving unless they're pushed out the door. Clarke and PJ were both young enough to escape with lots of career ahead of them. Tony left with first round hopes... though anyone could see that he'd have been benifited by one more season of competent college coaching. Coleman could leave but after his poor showing last year and the lack of a single big on the roster to compete with he's got nowhere to go but down. Maybe Jordan or CJ but they're going to be juniors with somewhat sketchy grade issues in their past. As much as anyone else might want out, I think they're all here unless they get Buzz'd.2 points

The only person I am sure will be sticking around will be Benford, and he is the only one that we don't want to stay.2 points

At least now Benny can get even more of his "own guys" in here to start turning this thing around!!! Oh wait....2 points

Adios PJ. Hope you have as much love and respect for your next coach as everyone apparently has for Benford!!!2 points

This is bull-honkey. Consistent 20-win seasons means that you have built a proven winner. This means the world to a school like UNT, where we are not yet a household name (even in our own state). So when you show you can consistently win (regardless of postseason success, which, I don't think you understand how hard it is to win to the level you specified), this will bring the attention of 4* & 5* recruits who will eventually land in our program, THEN you start talking about winning in the postseason on ANY level, then you start talking about winning to the level you're specifying. See what happened at UNT during the mid-2000's to 2011. We landed Tony Mitchell! He was going to take us to new heights, and there's no doubt he would have, but... I'd be fine with Benford proving he can win 20 games per year. Unfortunately, I think he'll probably lose more games next season than he did this season. And that is unacceptable with this team.2 points

Re-purpose the wing and put it behind the outfield of the new baseball stadium.2 points

How I read this. UNT needs to tell the THECB about any projects of X dollar amount. Even if it does or does not have the money in hand or planned for in bonds. I expect everything marked First Phase, is already well on its way to being paid for/bonded. Most of the money will come from the legislature, as we have been told to expect the largest public funds outlay in the history of the school. A lot of it will be in the form of dorms and teaching space. The THECB has been talking about making UNT a major destination for over a decade now, mainly to take growth stress off of UT/aTm and it seems the money is about to be put down. First phase includes the hotel/convention center. That makes sense because it will be the new digs for school of hospitality. It also includes the baseball stadium, which can't be state education fund money. It must be coming from some combination of existing fees, existing bonds, new bond issues, or donations. First phase does not include expansion of Apogee. I don't expect that to happen any time in the near future. The school just has to notify the THECB so that it could plan to do so at some point.2 points
-
I got no problem with removing the wing... It was always the plan and more importantly it was designed to be unbolted to begin with. Once it is removed it allows for a full wrap around second deck, which is the 3rd phase of 4 for the expansion of Apogee.. If you notice the master plan has the east side of the stadium being worked on as well... the idea was to psudeo mirror the west side and then connect the two with a 2nd deck on the endzone. The wing has and always was a short term solution to keep initial construction costs down.2 points

Yea, we will wait for the ad's 14th year to judge him. Sure we are not rushing things? By the way, Lane mentioned that we were stuck in the 70's when he got here (during a meeting). For those who say that the ath dept has done so much for athletics- why does athletic dept become so concerned with action when we have started a CAPITAL CAMPAIGN if he was so effective in the past? Why did the ath dept principal fund raiser, cooper jones, leave after receiving athletic fund raising goals? Why did GB plan to fire ath dept personnel prior to her leaving? Why did the presenter of the New football stadium presentations to the studients look like Dean Warren Burgen (CAS) not rv?2 points

So their plan is to fill in the most unique aspect of the stadium with a bowl and get rid of the wing? If I'm reading that right, then our leadership truly is clueless.2 points

So I guess if 3 people made interceptions... then somebody must have thrown those interceptions... I am going out on a limb here and say it was not the 4th string guy. So which of our 3 star QBs was it?2 points

From what the lead architect explained to me: partner with the City to purchase the lots, but hopefully keep most of the existing businesses there, but with revamped façades that are cohesive to the rest of campus, thus making it an "entrance gateway" to the university via Ave C.2 points

DK is a strict disciplinarian, and not patient about team rules. So just HYPOTHTICALLy, what if Tmitch had been suspended for a game, not just a couple of minutes like against a Lehigh, would you have supported it?2 points

I like the reasonable, yet positive, replies that comprise a good chunk of this thread. As far as the QB battle is concerned, we can't make any real judgments other than to see that there will almost certainly be improved play at that position, though we can't be sure as to what level until the season starts. Any improvement is laudable. In terms of the team as a whole, I like that we are slowly moving away from deadly OOC games to include only one superpower per season, though until such a time as we move up a notch in overall field performance, I would actually rather not be in that situation at all. Remember, it's hard to realize progress in medias res. When you look back over the last 5, 10, 20 years, and consider where we are now overall, you'll see that - although we haven't had the "huge breakthrough" we've been wanting, in general, we're in a much better place - and therefore, better positioned for good things to happen than just hoping, in terms of how realistic that breakthrough can be. I think I may already be as excited as most of you will be right before kickoff against Idaho...and I probably won't even be there. Stay positive and work hard for more, for better, for the best we can be and good things will happen! GMG!2 points

I think you guys are wanting to add these two due to their familiarity. It's no secret that pretty much everyone (other than FAU & FIU administrations/fans, and the C-USA office) does not want FAU/FIU around, but that doesn't mean we need to add ASU or ULL either. Honestly, aside from us, the only schools from the Belt I'd like to see around are MT & WK, both of which joined. FAU/FIU (and ODU, UNC-C, & UTSA) can go jump off a cliff, and I'm not interested in any of the others. If we're going to add more, let's shoot for the likes of NIU (dip into the Chicago market, which apparently, is what the new-look C-USA is all about) and try to lure Army back in. Also, has anything OFFICIAL come from Tulsa saying they're moving? I love Arkstfan, but he's been a little chippy lately defending ASU's credentials to get into C-USA. I wouldn't be pissed if they joined, but I'm not going to vote for them either.2 points
-
Great......more of our old Sunbelt amigos. As we continue to add the likes of WKU and UTSA this conference becomes much more of a joke. Initially the CUSA might have been able to lure some of the MAC schools away (should they have wanted to), but now the only ones wanting in are SBC folks.2 points
-
Right, because just sitting back and ignoring lack of achievement, and in one of our program's case, it's dismantleing, is soooooo much better.2 points
-
We need to at least the illusion that the new C-USA is not the same thing as the old Sun Belt Conference. I keep hoping that some team, a great team with a great tradition, in a big market area, that is a household name, that somehow everybody has overlooked, will come calling and ask to join. How did the University of Phoenix do last season ? GO MEAN GREEN1 point

I think I'll show up early Saturday morning, but my friends are arriving on Friday night for an over-nighter!1 point

Why not just invite the whole conference ? (please note my sarcasm)1 point

Fall camp is about 3 1/2 weeks long. Perhaps that is enough time for Brock to get ready for the season but it would have been nice if he would have showed some of the things he can do in the spring. Call me chicken little if you want, but if we don't get above average quarterbacking against Idaho, we could lose that game.1 point
