People forget that these guys will report for fall camp about 2 months before we play Idaho. We only have one more week left of spring football, but the qb competition will not be shut down. I've said this before, but if DT is the starter don't be surprised to see he and Berglund both get chances to lead the offense against Idaho in the first half. These coaches have too much invested in Berglund and too little confidence in DT (see last year) to anoint him the undisputed starter. Also, Berglund has looked good this spring when he was healthy. Who's to say he'll be fully healthy by fall, but the point is the coaches aren't going to label him a bust based on this spring. Maybe DT starts, but he will have a much shorter leash this year than last year.4 points

I mean this in all seriousness. Capable of what? Is the bar so low around here we don't even know what good quarterbacking is anymore? DT was sixth in passing yards, not in the top 10 in efficiency and had 14 TDs and 14 Ints in the Sun Belt. That's our starter. And we have three capable QBs?4 points

And, like last year...look for the GMG.Com Silent Auction to be set up near the Garage sale items. Come by and check out all the cool UNT and non-UNT items up for bid in the auction that is part of the GMG.Com Flag Football game. ALL proceeds go to UNT Athletics. Auction will be open for bidding until half-time of the spring game...winners can stop by after the half and pick up their items... Please try to stop by and at least take a look. Saw lots of folks in line for the garage sale last year who did not even come over to take a look-see at our auction items...won't take but a second to at least take a look-see. It's for a very good cause...UNT athletic scholarships. Thanks in advance for stopping by...and an even bigger thanks if you bid! ha!3 points

Huh? If DT starts we and McCarney are in a load of trouble. His ability to make multiple reads is on a preschool level. You will see guys in high school go through their progressions better. And I don't see the improvement. Watch the scrimmage video. He throws a number of ducks including one pick and another that should have been a gift wrapped pick six to Whitfield, and still has extremely sloppy footwork. The improvement is a myth from what I've seen.2 points

Seems a lot of teachers agree with concealed carry: http://www.star-telegram.com/2013/04/07/4755228/700-pack-free-concealed-handgun.html And a local police chief led the class. If you talk to most police officers, they will tell you that they WANT more law abiding citizens carrying weapons, as this police chief's involvement in this class demonstrates.2 points

Again, this is where it gets silly. "Some kid, classroom full of guns" Geez, this language is only rhetoric and not very good rhetoric, at that. As a professor, I realize that if guns are permitted to be carried on campus, as they are permitted to be carried elsewhere...with largely no accidents, then I have a better chance against a "shooter" IF I'M CARRYING, than if I'm not. I won't depend on others, regardless of age or skill, to defend my life. This isn't the military and a concealed handler is not ordered to defend anyone's life.2 points

The folks listed above are the one's who did the "heavy lifting" to make the practice facility happen. Others of us made much smaller contributions. As fans of the great Mean Green nation i want to say "thank you" to each and every member of the "team" listed above and to everyone who contributed to make this facility a reality! Well Done...great facility. These folks said "we can do this"...and they did. They did not wait around for someone else to step up...they stepped up! Thanks one and all.2 points

If DT is named starting QB going into fall, my interest in Mean Green Football this season will be about as high as my interest in the basketball season was after a few games last season... You just know its not going to be very good. A least with BB you would be getting him FBS experience (do you really want his first game of college to be against Texas next year?) this year's schedule and OOC schedule is very favorable for a team transitioning QB's.2 points

Brought tears to my eyes. Memories for that young man, and I are say everyone on hand to witness it! Way to go Cornhuskers! May God grant young Mr. Hoffman a complete and permanent cure! And, God bless the Nebraska team for making this happen!2 points

I'm going to take a bit of a weird direction here (big surprise, right?). If we do play Arizona State this coming season, a win or at least a close game would help tremendously in bringing some remote alumni back into the fold. If we could get even a couple dozen retired UNT alums in AZ connected to UNT again, that's a moderate boost. If we continue to do so everywhere we go, support in terms of spirit, finances, and every other area could lead to the "slow burn" necessary to finally get us where we need to be. Sometimes, taking a step back to remember that the aggregate (in this case, overall wins/season performance) is built from individual days, moments, and events. Such is the same with our personal involvement...we may have greater heights yet to be achieved, but as we bring excitement back to those who may have forgotten it, each person who develops a renewed sense of commitment will strengthen our capacity to yield these results. I'm freaking excited. No matter what happens with Benford, no matter how far out of our control it may be or seem, there are still things we can do; work can yet be done in those areas we can control. Wins and a great coach certainly make it easier to elicit a response, but creative team-building can accomplish just as much in the short term, with greater sense of loyalty and belonging in the long-term. To a point, this hearkens back to the "What Can You Do For The Mean Green" thread from a couple of days ago. As much as we all want wins and good coaching, what can we do in the interim to strengthen our program regardless of that which we can't control? Even if we could benefit from more transparency from the admin and the AD (and I agree with Emmitt, we certainly could), let's find new ways to re-create our own intertwined destinies as much as possible. Whether your feelings are optimistic or not, try a checklist with sub-parameters. Think of as many areas as possible where change, advancement, etc. are necessary, as well as types of responses that could be useful. Think of as many as possible before ruling anything out. Then, when your ideas are momentarily exhausted, go over everything and circle the areas where you don't need "administrative approval" to get something done. For every circled idea, consider any way you can organize - alone, or with others - to accomplish portions of each goal. Then, talk to friends and start a thread on here relative to each method of goal-attainment you've thought of. Some may leave you trying on your own, others may garner considerable support, but any of them may give a bit of a boost necessary to push things forward a little bit. With just a few ideas working out, we could change...well, everything.2 points

Why is Berglund getting used to the college game? He has practiced at Kansas, JC and UNT. That is plenty of college experience. It is not like he just graduated early, skipped his prom and reported for spring practice. We are in big trouble if this kid is not what we need him to be. Where is the kid who was allegedly wowing on the scout team all fall? For us to get to a bowl our QB play needs to be MUCH better than what DT has accomplished.2 points

Good grief. I disregarded Frogs comments the second I read his Dodge Mac remark. And the SMU series is an opp for us to step up. I'm sorry....but I won't join that negative attitude. I'm sure glad I'm not fighting along side some of you in a war. GO MEAN GREEN!2 points

Just do not understand why anyone thinks DT will just cede the starting job to anyone! DT looks really good right now...moving better after losing the weight and is doing a good job with his receivers who seem to be running better routes as well. Until someone actually outplays DT ( which isn't happening right now) this is DT's team. Just having the hype is not good enough. We'll see how this plays out, but don't be surprised if DT retains the starting role. I certainly will not be.2 points

--- Secret service agent accidently fired one..... and he is extremely well trained in thier use... I am not rabid anti-gun (own-them) but having teachers with one will kill many more people by accident that it saves. Having one on campus (locked up) or in a car may make sense but not in any classroom or crowded hallway. http://news.yahoo.com/oops-u-secret-almost-accidentally-shot-irans-president-072000986.html http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2013/04/deep-state/309260/ (better)1 point

Nine projects that total $115 million and will serve as a blue print for the success and growth of intercollegiate athletics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for decades to come, highlight the Athletics Facilities Master Plan. MASTER PLAN Here is a synopsis of the projects included in the Master Athletic Facilities Plan: Renovation of Cajun Field • Five construction phases that could ultimately raise capacity to over 65,000. • The first step of the first phase is to add 5,900 seats to south end zone, allowing for the remaining expansion to be done without losing use of Cajun Field or playing a season with a diminished capacity. • The main phase will feature the addition of a structure on the west side that will include 23,500 square feet of office space for the athletic administration, 1,200 club seats, 128 loge seats and 37 box suites. It will replace the current press box and include either changes or replacement of the current upper deck seating. • Also included in the main phase is an upper level of seating on the east sideline, adding 9,546 seats that will bring capacity to 50,000. Athletics Practice Facility Located adjacent to the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility and on some of the space currently being used for the football practice fields, the 71,000 square foot facility will create new space for athletic training, equipment and strength and conditioning and house the offices for the football program. Football Amenities In The APF (24,000 square feet) • Includes office space for head coach, assistant coaches and administrative and support staff. • 4,800 square feet of meeting space, including a main auditorium that seats 130-150 people that can be broken down into multiple meeting rooms. • Video editing suite and storage facilities that include video distribution and viewing areas for pro scouts. • Locker room facilities for the football team, coaching staff and visitors. Athletic Training In The APF (10,000 square feet) • Includes office space for athletic training staff, doctor’s office and exam room, a hydro-therapy room along with 3,500 square feet dedicated to treatment and rehabilitation. Equipment Room In The APF (5,700 sf) Almost 6,000 square feet of space located off the loading dock and receiving area that includes work space, offices for the full-time staff, expanded laundry facility, issue bins and equipment storage. Strength and Conditioning In The APF (18,800 sf) • Multiple weight room facilities that will allow more student-athletes to work out at the same time along with a common nutrition station. • Primary facility covers 12,000 square feet which will handle student-athletes simultaneously, including space for agility, plyometrics and warm-ups. • Current basketball court attached to indoor facility will be re-purposed into a 5,000 square foot secondary weight room. • Cardio mezzanine connects the two facilities, sharing space with athletic training for use rehabbing and evaluation of injuries. Track & Soccer Facility • The current complex that serves as the home of the Cajuns men’s and women’s track teams and the women’s soccer squad will get a face lift. • Individual office space for each coaching staff. • Individual locker rooms for each team will be either renovated or built. Student-Athlete Academic Center Covering 10,700 square feet of space, the space will provide a centralized location for all academic support. The center includes office space for the academic support staff, computer lab, classroom with theatre-style seating for 50, a primary study lounge with 12 private tutoring labs and a pair of medium-size tutor labs. M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field The home of Ragin’ Cajuns baseball since 1978 will get a major renovation, increasing capacity to approximately 4,500 with at least 1,200 chair back seats. Additional improvements include: • Nine luxury suites capable of holding 10 fans each. • 1,500 square foot press box that includes two radio booths, a television booth and increased space for game management. • Renovated baseball offices and locker rooms, adding a player’s lounge and meeting rooms. Basketball Practice Facility Currently slated to be built on the southwest corner of Cajundome Blvd & Reinhardt, the 32,000 square foot structure will house the Louisiana men’s and women’s basketball teams. It will include: • Basketball practice area that includes a regulation basketball court and several side baskets. • Locker rooms for the team and coaching staff. • Satellite Athletic Training room (1,200). • Shared film room and video editing space. Earl K. Long Gym Opened in 1939, currently serving as the home of women’s basketball and volleyball, historic Earl K. Long Gym will get a face lift. Renovating the existing space will project a more modern look. Culotta Tennis Center One of the newest athletic facilities, Culotta Tennis Center will get an update, building expanded locker room and office space, increasing outdoor lighting and creating a four-court indoor facility added to allow year-round practice and playing. Golf Practice Facility At a site to be determined in the near future, office and locker room facilities will be built to allow the Ragin’ Cajuns a place to call home throughout the year. Sports Plaza Once the structure is finished on the west side of Cajun Field is completed, plans call for the Cox Communications Athletic Center to be demolished, opening up nearly four acres of space for the Sports Plaza. The plaza will be a gathering point for activities in Cajun Field, the Culotta Tennis Center, M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field and Lamson Park, providing space where fans can gather and share the immense culture that Ragin’ Cajuns athletics enjoys.1 point

Interesting to hear some of the feedback about DT in spring ball. It sounds as though DT is not tearing it up as much as Vito makes it out to be.1 point

Seems like some of you want Bergland to start regardless of how he looks in practice. The one that produces in practice this spring & fall should be the starter. I don't care if it's DT, BB, McNulty, Gill, or Dajon Williams.1 point

While I agree with some of this, maybe you should review common 2012 opponents before saying we get demolished every time we play "someone decent." We lost to K St. by 14 at K. St. You guys lost to K St. by 13 AT HOME. And that's with a HUGE recruiting advantage of being in a much better conference and with recently winning a freaking Rose Bowl. And be careful about mouthing off about 22k crowds. If you guys end up a bottom feeder in the Big 12 (your normal position in the old SWC), then you will also be thrilled to get 22k in for OOC games. Oh, you will always draw 40k plus for most conference games, but if you return to your accustomed position, well over 3/4 of those will be wearing UT gear, or OU gear. I grew up in FW. I know what TCU attendance used to be like. Maybe you should appreciate history just a little better. What is funny is having a fan of what is basically the Johnny come lately of college football continually come to little ole UNT's site to flex his newly found football muscle. It's kind of like the 250 lb newly muscled up former nerd coming back and kicking sand in the face of the 6 year old nerd who doesn't even know the meaning of dumbbell. Is that really where you want to be when Jesus comes back, picking on little ole UNT? Plus, it's just such a D-bag move. But then again, the TCU fandom is starting to rival SMU in this regard.1 point

Where has Jesse "common sense" Martin been all season? All we had was detractors and whiney alumni all season. I enjoy your posts Jesse (though sometimes a bit long). Keep them up!1 point

Well, if a big part of what is much better is his running ability, a hamstring injury is no small problem.1 point

I haven't heard his name mentioned much, if at all. Anyone have any reports on him? Or if anyone going to the scrimmage tomorrow could keep an eye out it would be appreciated.1 point

Interesting admission or does this only apply to football? All of our QB's have potential. DT has played very well in some games and not so good in others. McNulty got the RS year he deserved, works hard and is athletic. BB was highly rated coming out of HS but has been inactive for a couple of years. So, they all have the potential or a capable. Plus, who knows what Williams will bring to the table once he gets here.1 point

You win. You are clearly superior, officer. Oh, and thanks for the reminder about your success at DPD. You never fail to remind us or let an opportunity pass to be condescending. I won't ask because I am sure you were without error in your first year on the force.1 point

There's a new video on meangreensports that shows both Polk's sack/forced fumble and Wallace's tackle for loss towards the end. Mac said both Dutton Watson and Wallace got their stripes off their helmets today. I am extremely encouraged with the young DE's and CB's on this team, if Wallace can continue to shows signs of progress, I'll feel even better about the defense moving forward.1 point

Tip: Go early. Last time there was a pretty good line and a lot of the more popular jersey numbers are gon if you are at the end of the line. If it starts at 12:30, I'd get there about 11.45 and just wait in line.1 point

Realistic goals: Football - have a winning record at the end of the season. Every year. Basketball - have a winning record at the end of the season. Every year. Achieve these two goals (as a bare minimum), and attendance/recruiting/MGC memberships/donations/etc... will fall into place.1 point

I like this thread a lot because we really do need to define SOMETHING that should be attainable for our football and basketball teams. For me, I'd like to see the following: 1.) In football, compete for bowl games that are aligned with our conference. IOW, get to a point where you are winning 8 games or more. 2.) In football, win a CUSA Division title. 3.) In football, get to a point where your recruiting rankings are competitive with all of the upper end non-AQs. 4.) In football, average 25k or more per home game. 5.) in basketball, have in place a coach that can get you close to the top of your divsion each year. 6.) In basketball, make a postseason tournament 5 years from now. 7.) In basketball, average 4k per home game in 5 years Note, that in hoops, most of these were already happening, but I'm looking at what I HOPE will again be possible in 5 years. We have fallen that far abck in just one year. For both, I want to see better names for OOC opponents at Apogee and the Super Pit. That's my realistic list of hopes for where I think we could be in 2018.1 point
