They publicly announce we are going to run our QB - zone reads/pistol etc etc. A 180 from our offense from last year. Of DT and BB who does that fit the most? It would be very difficult and possibly damaging in the locker room to just anoint Berglund the QB without any "competition." But you don't up and change your offense if you don't know who is going to run it. My guess is they won't officially say anything until fall but BB is the guy.5 points

Pretty classless and unimaginative. This could only be redeemed if the FakeTonyBenford tweeted ""Come after me! I'm a man! I'm forty!"5 points

8) Brock Berglund, QB, North Texas With all due respect to Derek Thompson, the Mean Green’s quarterback last season, his 2012 season wasn’t one for the record books. 57.5% completion percentage (83rd in the nation), as many interceptions (14) as touchdowns, a good-not-great 7.1 yards per attempt. It was an unspectacular – even average – season. So why isn’t he on this list? Because North Texas’ best chance to take a big step forward offensively is if Brock Berglund becomes the starting quarterback. Berglund was a big-time prospect, one of the top-rated dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation coming out of Colorado in 2011. But he ran into some trouble academically and ended up playing at Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College. He’s qualified now and transferring to North Texas, and bringing his considerable skill with him. And while there are a number of spots for improvement for the Mean Green, quarterback could be the biggest one. A step forward under center could do wonders for the team; but if Berglund doesn’t win the starting job, it could be more of the solid-not-spectacular work of Thompson. http://www.texasfootball.com/college-news/view/1803474 points

I figured this might happen. Anyone who thinks this is Clarke's decision needs only to look at his attendance as a fan at just about every game his senior HS season. I was really hoping he would be a good fit for the program, for his sake and ours .3 points

Derek Thompson does not have good footwork ... or at least not in games. He has a hitch in his step when the throws not to mention he often throws off his back foot. After his first year I thought he was a solid, mid-Sun Belt quarterback. Last year he regressed though lacking the threat of Dunbar and having receivers not producing also hurt.3 points

I'm pretty sure there was some issue about the number of credits Brock had at the end of his time at KU that wouldn't allow him to transfer directly last spring...That's why he had to spend the summer at a Juco.3 points

This is pretty much the only team that I wanted to see in the CUSA with us. I love to hate them so much! This hate stems all the way back to the 2007 Thanksgiving Weekend football game. Staying in the same hotel as their basketball team in Mobile in 2008 was also good fun. And the recent on the court battles we've had in the conference tourny certainly helped too. What is a hilltopper?3 points

No team would make a perceived downgrade to the SBC. Notice I said perceived, CUSA has a better reputation than the SBC thanks to its old schools having national recognition, UCF, Memphis (BB), ECU, USM, Houston, all have been ranked in the top 25 in the past few years, and although they are gone they left the conference with some national reputation. Right now any team in the SBC would say yes to CUSA in a heartbeat, just like any CUSA team would say yes to the BE, we all know how the remaining teams on both sides are unhappy. No one is moving in the other direction, all it took was a whisper of a rumor that CUSA was going to lose teams and needed replacements and the SBC schools jumped instantly. Everyone on the SBC board was talking about solidarity, holding together, and addition by subtraction. CUSA fans hoping that Houston, SMU, Memphis and UCF, are equally as delusional. Nothing against the SBC, I have no problem with the conference and it was a good home for us, I just couldn't believe that people were convinced it would hold together. Isn't Ark. St. trying to desperately get out? I don't blame you guys, being in a western division with Idaho and NMSU.2 points

America likes "Big Bang Theory", "The Bachelor" and shows about pawn shop owners. America likes "cheese" in an aerosol can. America likes to drive massive SUVs and bitch about gas prices. America can be pretty stupid.2 points

My son grew from 5'10" to 6'1" between the time he was 18 and 21. I don't think that his is a rare case as have seen many kids I worked with in soccer do the exact same thing. Lots of growing in males takes place after their 18th birthdays. At least that has been my experience as a parent and as a person who has worked with a lot of young males athletes on the soccer fields.2 points

Now you are talking. The biggest mistake we ever made was leaving the old Missouri Valley. Hayden Fry apparently thought we could force our way into the SWC by going independent as Houston had done. He was wrong and it cost us our D1 status and almost cost us our football program. That is all behind us now, however, and we just need to win. Victories over Tulsa this year and SMU next year would do wonders for our self esteem. Hey, it is possible.2 points

I still wouldn't really be for it... But were we to go down this road I'd hope the teachers who choose to carry would go through a more comprehensive course than your standard CHL. I've completed both the Texas and Utah and wouldn't consider either to be enough.2 points

I just don't have any affection for Tulsa. All I have ever known is that we get humiliated by a little named program. We don't beat them or even play them competitively. I would rather play an MWC team or Pac 12 school. We rarely go West anymore. What on earth did New Mexico, Air Force, UNLV or Arizona...do to piss us off. I find it hard to believe any of those programs out west wouldn't want to showcase their programs in North Texas. We should be able to get one school from the West to come play just north of Jerryworld every year! GMG1 point

If we had to add someone, I'm all about this. Even though they haven't played well lately, they are a team people have heard of.1 point

My point, Grand Green, is that the MVC was still a D1 program and we could not have been moved to 1AA no matter how small our stadium or low our attendance if we had remained. SMU started playing in little Ownby a few years later with pathetic attendance, but were safe from being sent to the new 1AA by remaining with the SWC.1 point

I agree with both the preceding comments, but we do go a long way back with Tulsa and it is a nice road trip for both schools.1 point

To be fair, if i recall, it was a top 20 showdown. A game between two top ranked basketball programs is a bigger deal than a lesser bowl game.1 point

I'd love Army but it would be another Eastern team. It make things even more unbalanced between the two divisions.1 point

I'm a professor at the University and I am FOR concealed carry. I don't want to be treated like a second rate citizen and not be able to carry, when permitted, because I work at a school. I would also like to have a plan rather than just hope and pray, in the event of a campus shooting. History doesn't dictate the future, so we don't know if a shooting will happen or not. I'd like to be prepared if it happens, and hope that it does not.1 point

I chose stay put, at least until someone actually leaves. Tulsa might be gone, but the A-whatever is NOT the same conference that got ECU and Tulane. If Tulsa leaves then the best geographic fit is ASU, followed by UL. Western is a good program, but adding them hurts the divisions which hurts every other member of the conference. It especially hurts the western members. The newbies get votes on this so why would UTEP, UTSA, Rice, LaTech and us want to replace Tulsa with Western and hurt themselves?1 point

--- Disgusting and should be very illegal .... Almost no one likes abortion but never should it be done in the last 100 days except to save the mother's life. . (my opinion) The first 100 days is a bit different.... if the decision is to be made... make it early and quickly... long before the fetus could survive outside. No one should be forced to have a kid after being raped and in a few other circumstances (includes very young immature girl which might ruin her life and the kid's ) ... That kid would be disliked by the family and perhaps mother forever. Often abused kids were unwanted kids. ---My opinion has changed alot over the years due to what I have seen or heard of.... we have a local drug dealer (in prison now) who fathered 25 kids with 24 women.... trading drugs for "fun". Guess who gets to pay for them... not him.... us.. hospital bills and then education and other welfare. Considering these kids environment.... doubt many of them will be our "finer" citizens either.. ---How did this subject get here from guns..??1 point

I believe they should have a different attitude. It is their job after all, but I do think that they care and want to win. For me if I am not coaching then I am ok with a loss here or there. I love the game. Even when we lose.1 point

I enjoy winning but in general I enjoy sports. Especially basketball. I just want some good close games and close rivals. That is whyi think it would be stupid going to the MWC. I want to play rice, Houston, utep, it's, Texas state etc.... And have fun in state rivalries. Enough with the conference crap and enough with the always having pressure to win. Let's just have some fun win some games and build our brand.1 point

I'm all for this, but be prepared for property taxes to go up quite a bit. Putting guns in the hands of teachers who don't want them, or shouldn't have, them is not the answer.1 point
