  1. If I told you that we just signed a kid who would come in and give you, on average, the following stats: 13.1 ppg 8.4 rpg 2.4 blocks per game (and is your all-time blocked shots leader in 1 1/2 seasons) How many of you would say "nah, I don't want that guy"? Yet, I've talked to at least five different people who refered to Tony Mitchell as a disappointment, over-hyped or told me we will be "better without him". I'm amused. When Tony came back from the Amare and Lebron camps, how many articles did he write touting himself as a superstar? How many ESPN blog entries did he write? How many draft projections did he put out there? Last I counted, none. Does he write for Meangreenaports.com? Yet, somehow, many want to lay this dumpster fire at the feet of a kid who did ZERO to hype himself up. We deserve the void that will be left when he exits.

  8. Bad argument here. Someone can be really passionate and care a whole lot, but if at the end of a day they've done a bad job (or a less than satisfactory one), that dedication cannot justify keeping him around. It's like you want to award him a "participation trophy" or something.

  9. It's the tony romo syndrome. You don't realize that an oline is under performing until you get Quincy carter or John kitna under center.

  11. I appreciated our team. It is often easy to forget that they are still young men and I suspect they gave it all they could given the circumstances.

  12. You classify 3 of the last 6 hires disasters, one as an incomplete, and cite one who was here only a year? And then say coaching hires have been "pretty good"? And you want to cite a hire made 11 years ago as proof? Talk about bottom of the barrel standards. If you looked up those reactions, you would find several "whatever happened to hiring experienced coaches" and at least one "we'll, he can recruit, but we still don't know if he can coach" after Wesley committed (I know because I posted this myself). Part of Being an intelligent fan is assessing information to form your opinion. Several were excited but changed their opinion when it became apparent that Benford couldn't coach. They processed the information/evidence and changed their mind. Nothing wrong with that. Or we could all just keep cheering for Todd Dodge because we were excited by that hire, just like you, right?

  15. I was plenty fine with the hire when it went down because 1. It was a top assistant from a solid program everyone had heard of. 2. I didn't think anyone could possibly ruin what we had coming back with our momentum in a lower tier conference. I was wrong. It'd be nice if our athletic director was better at figuring out coaching hires than a random fan... Nah.

  16. I heard he was going to start subbing his suits like he does with the lineup in hopes of better results.

  17. You know, I've been thinking about something lately: I read a lot of opinions on this board that advocate avoiding "negativity." I actually think that utter complacency, even when facing the most dramatic and shocking disappointment, is the ultimate demonstration of negativity. To me, accepting the results of this basketball season and blindly, based on zero evidence whatsoever, assuming that next year will be much better, is the definition of negativity, even defeatism. This line of thinking assumes that we have no ability to improve to even a passable level and should just smile, gladly swallow whatever poison we're given, and then say "thank you" by opening up our wallets. Positivity is declaring that we can and will be a serious, highly competitive Division I program and that any coach completely unable to accomplish this should be removed immediately.

  18. Who stays? Will we act like a grown up program and correct a mistake? How do we even try to compete in CUSA when we are a bottom barrel Belt team that will lose its most talented player and still has 2 open scholarships for next year? Many questions, few answers gives me little hope.

  20. That is what I like about RV the most. I think he is very sincere & passionate about UNT. I have zero doubt he wants us to succeed in every aspect from the very bottom of his heart. He genuinely cares about this University Unfortunately , this is a results only business. That's why you see the top AD's and coaches around the country make millions & millions of dollars. He has some great results off the field (facilities ) , but a big majority of people only care about the W/L results In the major sports this year UNT went 27 - 47 (2 wins which were vs DII teams ) that just won't make people happy I think there is a good chance for positive turnarounds in FB & BB ( if TM returns ) next season , but it always seems like that & most are tired of hearing about potential I'm a lifelong Cubs fan, so " wait till next year" is in my blood. I guess that somehow played a part in my decision to attend UNT

  21. I'll be first to admit, I thought Benford was going to be a great hire, I thought we should of hired someone else. But by no means did I think this will happen. I think the best thing to do is own up to your mistakes, if you think you have some... I don't think RV thinks his hire was a mistake though.

  22. I don't think too many are going to dump on TM and blame him for this, but it's hard not to wonder where those 34/16 games went. Well, come to think of it I guess those games went to BR with JJ. Sure hope TM comes back next year with a vengeance, because we're going to need him in a big way.

  23. Now this disaster is over, my guess NT,s limps around for at least two more years with Benford at the helm and hopes with a downgraded oc schedule they might get back to .500. What should happen, is the AD does whatever it takes to get a new head MBB in here as quickly as possible. However, RV will most likely talk about progress, injuries, and anything but he made a grievously bad hire.

  32. First off, apparently it is impossible to foul Alexis Hyder. I understand that she's a load down low and bigger than the other teams' posts...but that doesn't mean that hacking her isn't a foul. It was shameful. About to watch WKU play ULM. I fully expect ULM to get run out of the gym. I'd love to see Benford stay competitive with ULM. Wearing NT undeewear and socks as my tribute to North Texas. Wearing all black as my "tribute" to Benford.

  33. The WBB year is great in comparison to the MBB, but they really finished awful losing to the 11 seed; a team they had beat twice. The bad part is that they played their worst ball at the end of the year when a young team should be getting better. I don't know what happened to this team they went from a fairly well balanced team to one that relies almost entirely on Hyder. By the way, Goodwin is a great freshman player, but Hyder was better. Till the last half of the conference season, I was very excited about Petersen and this team. Now, I wonder what happened; it does not even look like the same players. I wonder if Petersen can succeed here, Aston gave him at least two great freshmen and the future should be bright; but the way this team finished, you have to have a lot of doubts.

  34. So the 2 times Tony Mitchell had disciplinary issues he was forced to sit out the first few minutes of game. Anyone else and it's a whole game. Maybe they did different things , but seems to be a lack of consistency from the coach's end I have no idea what each issue was , just seems odd to me

  37. So how do we start a serious campaign to fire Benford? I think RV should go as well. I've said this should have been done at the beginning of the season, but nothing has come out of it.

  44. Never understood why RV has opposition to shuttle buses on game days. Based on our attendance we need to do everything to make it easier for people to get to the stadium. Shuttle routes with stops at the dorms, greek row, train station, and other parts of town just make sense.

  48. Valid criticism....mmmm. Name calling, insults, cruel comments....mmmmm. Have you spoken directly to those who supposedly don't care or is this board your definition of talking to someone who doesn't care? Would you say the things you write on here directly to those who don't care? I hope not. I bet not. As I've said before, good luck with your approach.
