  1. I plan on going to the games on Saturday and Sunday. Any of you guys go to the games? Is there a decent crowd? Personally, I can not wait to see these ladies in action. They seem to be good this year.

  2. I really really really want to see Tulsa stay in CUSA with us. I could see a real rivalry here. Tulsa is a great city and only a 4 or 5 hour drive from Denton. We had history with them in the old MVC. I hope we can begin again with Tulsa. GO MEAN GREEN

  3. Don't be silly. A writer for the Salt Lake Tribune knows nothing about UNT. He just looks at an injury report and goes off of that. But that won't stop some from making this terrible excuse for this team and pointing to this article as support for this terrible excuse.

  7. As far as my generation and probably those older (as in the Mean Joe Era) are concerned, we've not done much at a level we thought we'd for sure be at by now in the last 30 plus years, but the UNT students (for the most part with their monies) and their passage of the new stadium referendum at least gave us a major college football venue for us to one day grow a major college football program into. If we can't do it with wins/losses over a period of time, then maybe we can just have better facilities than most of the rest of the mid-majors. This "new" rankings list obviously is tainted with unbelievable bias as I'd bet those polled and who did not give Apogee a higher rank have not put one step inside our on-campus stadium. IMO...........Apogee is just not one of those stadiums that can be fairly assessed from either Interstate or by looking at the huge press box. One really has to step inside Apogee to be able to appreciate the entire package. I'm sure had we had an 8 football season winning streak (instead of, well, you know) we probably would have jumped another 10 or 15 spots in this latest stadium poll. Winning programs who I think we have a better stadium seemed to get a rather nice bump in these rankings. Extra Stuff: I mean you have one other recent SBC school now a member in CUSA with what is undoubtedly and mostly an erector set kind of stadium (which Apogee is not) gets ranked ahead of our stadium? I..........don't.............think.............so. AND...........no way that any "mid major" football stadium built in the 60's or 70's should be ranked higher than Apogee Stadium. Again, had we been winning the last 30 years this poll as far as Apogee is concerned would favor us more. Tulsa U's stadium was ranked last in this survey. UNT's Apogee was ranked ahead of Coach Mac's former employer, ie, ISU stadium. http://www.stadiumjourney.com/news/02-01-2013/252/college-football-stadium-experience-rankings-2012/#comments GMG!

  12. Meanwhile all over the airwaves in Vegas today was talk about the MWC's new partnership with ESPN. They couldn't be more excited about returning to the mothership after all of those years on the Mountain. They also talked about how the Boise football brand has netted the conference a nice windfall. Granted the ESPN deal is really all about Boise but all other programs are going to benefit from the 22 football games televised...It made me think that while SMU and Houston believed and possibly still do that they can land in the MWC if desired. I just don't see or have ever seen the love from the other way. SMU and Houston are in the bed they hae created and they have to make the A12 work to be relevant. Lets get it on and let the competition begin! GMG

  18. Offensively, I think Shawn Marion is a good comparison. With a good point guard, Tony could get three or four buckets a game just based on his athleticism cutting to the basket and running the break. Marion is way ahead of him defensively, though. Tony's never going to be known as a shut down defender.

  19. At least the odds have improved a bit. Strange as it may sound, I somehow have a good feeling about this tourney. It may just be a thing that when you hit bottom there's nowhere to go but up, but some gut feeling tells me that we're going to do well. On the other hand, it may just be the hot chili and cold margaritas that I had for dinner.

  24. My thoughts on tomorrow nights game. http://tmgbr.com/2013/03/07/the-breakdown-8/ Projected Starters Louisiana Lafayette G Elfrid Payton 15.8 ppg 5.6 rpg 5.4 apg G Alan-Micha Thompson 8.5 ppg G Bryant Mbamalu 13.7 ppg 3.7 rpg F Shawn Long 15.8 ppg 10.3 rpg 2.0 bpg F Elridge Moore 5.0 ppg 3.8 rpg North Texas G Alzee Williams, JR 11.1 ppg 3.4 rpg F Jordan Williams, SO 14.0 ppg 3.7 rpg F Niko Stojiljkovic, SR 2.5 ppg 2.2 rpg F Roger Franklin, SR 11.6 ppg 6.0 rpg F Tony Mitchell, SO 13.1 ppg 8.4 rpg 2.7 bpg Previous Matchup’s December 1 Louisiana Lafayette 80-64 North Texas January 31 Louisiana Lafayette 105-74 North Texas Mean Green Offense vs Ragin Cajun Defense North Texas comes into this match-up averaging 67 ppg which ranks them at 201st in the nation. Add that on to their 41% fg percentage which ranks 270th in the nation. So it’s safe to say that UNT is not going to light the scoreboard up. Even in their most efficient games UNT has only put up around 75 points this year. In order for UNT to win they have to maximize their possessions and limit the turnovers. Louisiana Lafayette isn’t the stoutest of defenses out there so UNT will be able to score the ball that I’m sure of. What I’m not sure of is the Tony Mitchell factor. Lafayette has had the big man figured out for the past two seasons. This year Mitchell has average a meager 5 ppg and 4.5 rbg and 4.5 fouls per game against the Cajuns. Not the stats you would expect from a preseason All-American. Tony needs to use his athleticism in this game and attack from the outside in. I say this because you can be sure every time Mitchell gets a paint touch the Cajun are going to collapse around him. By Mitchell attacking off the dribble it sets up for his teammates like Jordan Williams and Roger Franklin to cut to the basket and get open looks. Mitchell can be effective in this game even he doesn’t put up big numbers. He can get his teammates involved early and often. Mean Green Defense vs Ragin Cajun Offense The Cajuns want to get out and push the tempo. They like to get up a lot of shots. Against UNT this year they have averaged 62 shots attempted and 20 3 points shots each game. Add those to getting at least 20 free throws each game and well you’re bound to put up some points. UNT can’t let the Cajuns get up a big volume of shots. The reason is UNT does not have the offensive efficiency to keep pace with the Cajuns. They can ill afford to let this game turn into a track meet. UNT will need to keep the Cajuns in the 60’s (points) if they want to have a chance to win. In each of their 19 losses Lafayette is averaging 65 ppg. Against UNT this year they are averaging 93 ppg so UNT must do a good job in limiting shot opportunities. Whoever is guarding Elfrid Payton will need to stay in front of the electric point guard. He is the guy with the keys to car for Lafayette. Also a big must is for Tony Mitchell to stay out of foul trouble. UNT needs his athleticism in this game big time. Often you see Tony get saddled with foul trouble early and he loses his aggressiveness. How I would attack The great thing about the motion offense is that you’re not tied to a certain position. What I mean is that just because I’m a forward doesn’t mean that every time I have to be on the block posting up. I would tell Tony Mitchell and my guys to look for a post entry off the fast break if it’s not there then we need to go to an open set. So what I would like to see is an open lane (middle of the floor). I don’t want my guys clogging it up. I know that Lafayette wants to sag in the paint and force us to beat them with jump shots. That’s all fine and well I know that I can’t win unless I can make shots anyways. What I can force them to do is defend for 30 seconds and look for my right shot. If I know they are sagging what’s the point of throwing up a 3 early in the shot clock? I know I can get that shot anytime against them. Instead I’m going move the ball quickly and look for that open short to mid range shot or use the dribble drive to create an easy shot. I would want guys like Hardwick and Jones to use the drive to draw the defense in and have one of my others guys cutting in along the baseline for an easy lob or layup. Often when you get that sag it almost turns into a zone so the goal becomes getting two guys on you. The open set allows for the open lane to drive and allows for the cut to be harder to guard. If I’m sagging I can easily lose track of my man if I’m forced to help on a dribble drive which in turns allows my guy to attack. The key is to be patient and look for a good shot. I would want my guys to remember just because your open doesn’t mean that it’s a good shot. Prediction: Lafayette and North Texas have had two very similar seasons this year. You would label both as a disappointment. North Texas has probably had the more disappointing of the two, but that can all change. What scares me the most in this game is Lafayette’s ability to score 94th overall in the country. Can North Texas keep them in check and not let the game turn into a track meet? Can Tony Mitchell start to play like the man we all know him to be? Can North Texas find its unsung hero like Jacob Holmen was last year? Can North Texas continue to get better? North Texas ended the season playing its best basketball of the season which has led me to believe that they have a fighting chance in this game. They just need to continue to get better and play Tony Benford basketball. Be aggressive and physical challenge Lafayette at every turn and grind it out. I see this game as being close all the way through. Tournament games always have that feel of added pressure. Every shot and possession becomes more important. In order to move on you need to play like every possession is your last. Hot Springs has been good to North Texas for the most part in years past except for that last hurdle. I see that same good charm continuing this year. I believe North Texas will dig deep and find a way to win. My unsung hero will be Niko Stojiljkovic. I think he is going to make a huge play down the stretch that will turn the game in UNT’s favor. North Texas 67 Louisiana Lafayette 66

  25. Long and Mitchell have just got to reverse their numbers this time around. Long killed us in all areas of the game the first two times, and Mitchell basically did nothing. I sure hope we have a plan. A new and improved plan.

  27. Thats because the rube making up the list is doing just that....making up the list. Its obvious He/She has never stepped foot in Malone or Aillet or Apogee in their life. And read that again about Apogee. If that isn't a cut and paste descriptive off of one of our school websites I don't know what is? Who in hell steps foot in Apogee on game day and comes away with all that LEED environment BS as an impression? Rick

  37. So you want to tax even more people to benefit education? And because its gun owners, that makes it A-OK, right? Because they don't think they way you do, right ? And, again, it could personally benefit you, right ? Wasn't Lotto Texas supposed to fund education for years to come? But no, education lobbies (see:unions) were back at the legislature's doorstep groveling for more, what, less than 2 years in? How much is enough for you guys? Answer is there is no number that satisfies. Salaries are EXTREMELY bloated at all levels of education, especially for what we are getting in return. My degree has nothing to do with this conversation, but you know that, right?

  38. Yeah, seems like a great idea. Maybe we will use it like we use the lottery revenues that are allocated to education.

  40. And I didn't even mention how the glorification of this murderer has again raised racial tensions in the black neighborhoods patrolled by LAPD. Hopefully, no other innocent people lose their lives because far left idiots chose to glorify this man and others in the left did nothing to discourage them.

  41. I bet Big 6 schools are lining up to hire Benford away. And the underachiever that was never quite good enough for us goes to 16-9. How many years until Benford has a career record at his new school that's seven games above .500? Andrew? Green_dude?

  42. Again, who I communicate with privately is none of your business. I'm not hiding behind a keyboard. I'm in the Mean Green room pre game and will be in Hot Springs. Will you? My picture is posted on this forum with UNT90 right underneath. Is yours? Who is really hiding here? If saying Bemford is a bad coach is your definition of name calling, cruel comments, or an insult, well, guilty as charged, although the evidence suggests its simply the truth. The only one I have ever come close to insulting is Andrew by calling him a basketball idiot. Again, there is ample evidence to show that is just simply a not-so-uncomfortable fact. Look dude, I am criticizing in a very open way. Kram knows me by 1st name, as do many others who don't believe as I do. Again, what about you?

  43. Valid criticism....mmmm. Name calling, insults, cruel comments....mmmmm. Have you spoken directly to those who supposedly don't care or is this board your definition of talking to someone who doesn't care? Would you say the things you write on here directly to those who don't care? I hope not. I bet not. As I've said before, good luck with your approach.

  45. Don't you know that valid criticism on an open forum about people who perform a very public job is not accepted at UNT! You need to only talk to the AD if you have a problem, sir! We don't need anyone else noticing that we have a terrible record with the "most talented team in UNT history." Just be really quiet and no one, not media or recruits, will notice the suck that this program is transforming into. Just get on your phone and call people who don't care what you have to say. That's the way we handle things at UNT. All 1000 of us. Expect more -------------->. Give accordingly

  46. Nunn is #33 in the videos. I believe he had just joined "Upward Stars 17" and didn't play much. Project type kid that has a classic low post game, needed for a half court pace and possibly crunch time.
