If I remember correctly, you won't see McDorman this spring due to rehab from shoulder surgery but he will be in the middle of things come fall. If he doesn't win a starting position he should still see plenty of playing time.1 point

if certain positions fall into place on offense, i think we have the skill positions to have a really good pistol offense.1 point

I have one screen name. Ayone who thinks otherwise is an idoit. I am not trying to be rude but I find the ignorance of some of the posts around here is laughable. I have one account. But thanks.... I do not have to stoop to off color jokes or a joke about the human anotomy to get a good laugh. But of course I am an adult.1 point

No - you've consistently been too stupid to play the sarcasm card. You can have it back when you delete 2 screen names.1 point

Coleman, for better or worse, is your 5. Wesley will see time along side of Friar, Nunn, and Williams at the 3-4 spots. Unfortunately, Jordan rebounds like a 1 or 2.1 point

Would absolutely love to see this happen. Great kid. This would mean that UNT did, indeed, have someone get hot rom 3-point range and would probably mean that UNT won the tourney...Come on Clarke!1 point

Hopefully the MTSU men's team keep up their Hot Springs tradition of going out late to bars the night before games1 point
-
That was certainly tongue in cheek, but recently just shows the potential when these kids really put forth the effort for an entire game and what could have been all season long. I certainly don't attribute the recent improvement to Benford suddenly becoming that much better if a coach...1 point

The oBE is having a fit on their board trying to come up with a new name for their conference. Any marketing majors know what the branding/rebranding process is and what $250k will get you. I'm sure it has something to do with location, mission and make-up of the conference [Cincy, USF, Temple, UConn, UCF, Houston, SMU, ECU, Tulane, *Memphis and perhaps a couple of others]. Connect the dots here and you see they don't have a whole lot in common. Most are in larger cities and public though you probably don't want to slight the privates with new name. What has now happened is probably a good thing for the Go5 as the playing field has been leveled yet again. Sooner or later we're going to see the need to work together to avoid the appearence of irrelevance. p.s. good luck to the (fill in the blank) conference, they're going to need it.1 point

Getting MTSU in their 1st game of the tournament is exactly when you want to get them if you have to get them. WIth MTSU's history in Hot Springs, maybe we could get lucky? If we can find a way to beat that juggernaut LaLa, that is.1 point

IFFFF we're were to knock off the top team it would be early on in the tournament. Not at the end with all our guys playing so many min. We get the "tune up" game or the "put us out of misery" against ULL. Don't forget. MUTS got knocked off early last year, it could happen again. I wanna see our seniors win more than Benford. Go Mean Green!1 point
-
-10% is actually pretty astonishing. I think Benford's early woes might have helped a bit, but I would've thought CUSA add would jump that up. I don't know how we increase the UNT computer visits but for a message board we have a very old fanbase.1 point

I think Young is a fine QB, but I believe he is a senior this year while Berglund is a sophmore. I would rather have a player for three years that fits our system as a dual threat over a player that has one year and is a true pocket passer. I mean no disrespect at all to Young, but I think Berglund is a better fit for us. Young will probably do very well in Tech's system.1 point

Agree. Mitchell had some great teams, especially during our early Div. 1 College Football days. And some great assistant coaches. The man should be given more recognition for what he accomplished during his tenure at North Texas. I know this will tick some people off, but I picked individuals that played during those Div 1 days mostly. I don't think we were Div 1 at the time, but how could you not pick Ray Renfro? And I didn't see him play or follow college football back then!1 point

Hands down...Odus Mitchell. The rest pale in comparison when everything is considered...everything.1 point

Well the team captain is finally back from injury and can hopefully start in hot spellings and lead them to victory! Things are finally clicking and CJ is ready finally. He learned a lot behind Benford when he was out.1 point
-
I have often wondered about Odus Mitchell myself. He was one of the first, if not the first, to integrate a division 1 school in the entire south (of the 11 states of the old Confederacy) and he did it almost 10 years before Hayden Fry or John Bridges (sp?} did it in the Southwest Conference, He took us to the Sun Bowl and recruited both Joe Greene and Abner Haynes. He also took us from division 2 to division 1 in football. It has always been a mystery to me why he has not been recognized more on this campus with his name on some recognizable building or field or something. He was a successful coach here for a long long time.1 point

Wow. Benford really has the team hitting on all cylinders. I guess him standing up to the players earlier in the season, holding them accountable and sitting them at certain points is finally getting through to these young men. It is as if the players are finally starting to accept their roles and responsibilities, along with some improvement by Benford as well1 point

Should be exciting. But let's not get to caught up in "hype" just yet. Haven't we had a recent lesson in doing just that?1 point

maybe I missed it, but one name I have not seen in this thread on DT's is Dylan Mcdorman. (spell check on his name) Connor brought him home a few weeks ago with Shaun Mckinney....first both are great kids....but I could tell Dylan has some nasty...I am anxious to see him this spring.1 point

I have to go with Odus Mitchell. Led the team through integration way before any other schools, had a winning record, great teams in the late 60's with players that succeeded in the NFL and were some of our greats and coached here for two decades. Put him at any other powerhouse school and he would be a legend. DD couldn't keep his foot out of his mouth, had the aforementioned record, has a practice field named after him because we were held hostage by a self promoting furniture salesman and whose success was really a testament to the leadership of players like Scott Hall, Jonus Buckles, etc...1 point
-
The HOF has a very loose set of requirements So sure Mitchell could get entry, in fact he could be in just on the basis of his first two years. Brings Jamario Thomas to mind. A lot of people don't think he is HOF worthy despite him having the greatest year ever for a NT running back. He had more yardage and success in his freshman year than the other three combined. If he had that great year his senior year, everyone would remember him as much better player not the player that never lived up to his first year. Mitchell likewise if he reversed his two NT seasons, would be a shoo-in for the HOF. Hopefully, NT will see some more great play out of Mitchell before he leaves NT.1 point

I have a feeling that he will work out here. Berglund is a recruit that normally doesn't make their way to UNT, so no matter how it has happened, let's just hope he can keep it all on the straight and narrow. Being 6'4" with speed and a strong arm are attributes we haven't seen her in a long time. We need him to be good, even great. If he cannot play at a decent level, in other words, better than what we saw in 2012 at the QB position, I will go ahead and predict that McCarney will get fired before 2015. Decent QB play last year would have gotten us at least one more win, probably more. Coach Mac knows that he cannot have two more losing seasons before 2015, so I think he knows fully just how much Berglund means to this team and the future.1 point

This is so dead-on. The "North Texas Effect" only applies to sports, though. When the Green Brigade has a bad halftime performance, though, that band director better have his bags packed...we care A LOT about music!! Suck on that and your misguided funding for athletics, all you other Texas FBS schools #UNT BOR and typical NT Daily writer1 point

I think the biggest frustration has been watching players like TM, and others, this season visibly show lack of effort. Certainly that was triggered by a new staff that implemented new ideas. These new ideas and approach now seem to have been in conflict with the inflated view of some players self worth over the summer And an attitude of 'why should I listen to this new coach, I have done pretty well doing things the old way'. After a couple of early losses, the lack of commitment and buy in to the new staff was visibly evident on the court. Players not hustling, not closing out on defense, not helping out when a player got beat, lack of flow and sharing the ball on offense, stamping one's feet and flailing arms when the ball doesn't come to you, etc... Through all of this the staff seems to have learned a few things about the players as well as themselves and made a few improvements. The staff also seems to have held firm with the players and doled out discipline when needed. A few key players seem to be finally buying in, unfortunately it took a lot longer than one would have hoped, but it is obvious when personal agendas are set aside, there is a tremendous amount of talent on this team as evidenced by the easy dismantling of the western division champs the other night. The odds are stacked against them, but hopefully this team can continue its recent momentum. I would like to see them at least have a chance to play MT.0 points

4 star QB from Denton Ryan. Signed with TTech originally. Some say he wanted to transfer to UNT but we told him no because we were bringing Berglund in. Others say that he was going to La. Tech all along because of their baseball program (he was a 2 sport star in HS). Should make for an interesting matchup when we get together with La. Tech.0 points

But but but, some people on here say that Mitchell doesn't care. How can that be when you look at pictures like that one?0 points
-
No, it's because the players have finally "bought in" and have given up their hooligan ways. Nevermind that the "buy in" seems to happen sporadically (with a ULM debacle sprinkled in). Nevermind that these same players seemed not to be miscreants just last season. Nope, when we fail just blame 18-20 year olds. When we succeed credit it to the guy who is getting paid to lead this team.0 points
