  1. Having CJ back really changed the team. Even though he is rusty, he can get to the basket almost at will. Alzee was a monster getting to the basket and getting fouled because of it all night. Niko is really playing well, and the combination of him getting big minutes, Jordan becoming a consistent outside threat and CJ returning make this a much better team. The reason why is Niko picks up rebounds while Tony tries to block every shot. And CJ just opens up the offense. And anybody who says this team would be better off without Mitchell next year is crazy.

  5. Okay Mean Green... I want to see pictures of everyone's frames or diploma displays. I'll be putting mine together soon so I need ideas. Plus, it's fun to revel in our alumni awesomeness.

  6. I have a feeling that he will work out here. Berglund is a recruit that normally doesn't make their way to UNT, so no matter how it has happened, let's just hope he can keep it all on the straight and narrow. Being 6'4" with speed and a strong arm are attributes we haven't seen her in a long time. We need him to be good, even great. If he cannot play at a decent level, in other words, better than what we saw in 2012 at the QB position, I will go ahead and predict that McCarney will get fired before 2015. Decent QB play last year would have gotten us at least one more win, probably more. Coach Mac knows that he cannot have two more losing seasons before 2015, so I think he knows fully just how much Berglund means to this team and the future.

  9. Well, how about the last eight years results and being perennially at bottom or near bottom of Texas recruiting ratings. I am not without hope, but NT would be favored right now to win 2 or 3 games next year. Certainly, that could be wrong; but frankly most of those ranking have been very accurate about NT since their fall in football. I think NT very well may improve but I cannot think of anyway in the world to portray NT chances as great.

  10. So why is this year the exception? When the athletic department themselves said this is the most talented team in UNT history? Are you saying we hired a head coach who needed a year to learn how to be a head coach? If so, there is a huge problem with the person or people making the hire, because you don't hire someone you have to train to be a head coach when "the most talented team in UNT history" is returning for said coach's 1st year. Or are you saying we are just too poor and have to hope for the best?

  12. Pluses and minuses for both. I'm abstaining from voting because, for me, it would really be a toss-up between the two. WKU wasn't an option, or I would lean towards them simply because they are competitive in every single sport... check the Bubas standings. I really just hope that Tulsa sticks with us and we don't need to make any more changes.

  14. Saying this is a mistake hire is as knee jerk as it gets. I will agree that the record is trending the wrong way. But I can't say that it was a mistake hire. 20 wins and a postseason bid next year. More wins the following year and a 11 to 14 seed in the tournament. That is where the bar is set. But this year cannot be the judge of this hire.

  15. Uh, not gonna happen. Maybe you can get that renovation to come in about $14,960 less than that 1st bid. And being over-positive man doesn't make you a charity case. Or does it? ;-)

  17. This game is the way I envisioned most of the season going this year. Good win, I doubt if ASU was emotionally up for the game; however, NT would have been hard to beat by anybody tonight. I thought everyone on the team with the possible exception of Hardwick, had a very good game. Great, to see many of the 1988 team at the game. The tournament draw couldn't be any worse, but anything can happen in Hot Springs.

  18. ****everyone take your heart meds**** I don't care what the reason was for the big win, I'm excited. Our last few wins came against some bad teams in the Belt but this one was against a team that had a little something. It sends our team into the tournament on a high note and you gotta like that. Four games in four days is a steep climb but in a sudden death kind of scenario you just gotta solve the puzzle of each team once.

  19. C-USA has taken on way too many new moveups and startups as it is. No way. And Georgia State has nowhere near the potential of Charlotte and Old Dominion. http://atlanta.sbnation.com/2012/9/26/3412084/2012-georgia-state-football-attendance

  20. Update....we have one of our referees set. Troy Kokjohn has agreed to return to referee for us again this year while his Dad works the silent auction table. Thanks guys, can't tell you how much I appreciate your support...and so do the members of the Cheer Squad! Need another ref....anyone who would like to ref just let me know.

  22. This wasn't one of the ten games I bought tickets to, as I usually have Thursday night conflicts. Was thinking of buying a ticket for the seniors when greenjoe offered his to me. I agree with KRAM1 on the great meal (and capacity crowd) in MG hospitality room. If I recall correctly, ASU scored first and then we scored ten straight and never looked back. Frankly, I thought this was best conference game the guys played all year. Sure the 75% shooting a few games back was amazing, but that game was all about shooting. Tonight was about hustle, passing, assists, rebounds, defense, and shooting from inside and out - against a team that came in with four straight and 5 of 6 in February. Sitting behind the ASU bench, my take is they were really frustrated with the UNT effort. You have to feel better about this otherwise disappointing season after the last three weeks, and especially after tonight. GREAT WIN! And, a decent halftime to boot.

  26. This "we" is "us", at least for one more basketball game. Then "we" will be in a multi-bid league (maybe). Not to be Debbie Downer here, but maybe we need to consider that Ark St. had the 2 seed wrapped up before tonight's game. Still a nice win, but did we see a full effort from A St.?

  27. Middle beat Troy 66-56 tonight. Next up for Troy is S. Alabama. Troy needs to beat S. Ala if UNT is to move up to the 9 seed. At least that is the way I understand it....no, I am not 100 percent sure of that....but think so.

  28. Not sure, but don't think so. It is my understanding that Troy has our fate in its hands. I think Troy has to win either tonight or Saturday for us to get the 9 seed. Both Troy games are on the road. Need to check the Sunbelt scores.

  29. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Man, it would be terrible if all that Halloween game angst was all for naught. I would prefer a Saturday game because it removes a bunch of reasons for not attending, but do think there will be a good crowd either way. I guess now it is all....patience grasshopper, patience for all of us.

  31. I believe I heard that UNT has now won 4 of their last 6 games. Maybe the lights are coming on, but we can all see how well this team plays with CJ in the lineup as well. Saw some great ball movement tonight. Way too many turnovers, but some seemed to be caused by a big lead and the guys trying to have some fun. Whatever it was, fun game to watch. Winning record at home for about the last twelve years. Glad I was there for senior night. These guys deserved the support. Great to see the '88 team along with Coach Gales. Really great time tonight coupled with a free "thank you" meal in the Mean Green Room to Mean Green Club members before the game. A big win, free meal and free beer. What's not to like tonight? Bring on Hot Springs!

  40. I think because of the Benford/Brady controversy in Jonesboro that Brady, being the ass he is, is going to come bring the wood tonight and try to humiliate Benford and our team. That said, even if you as a fan gave up attending games, I hope you will at least come out and show appreciation for our seniors. It may also be the last time we see Tony Mitchell playing at the Super Pit. Regardless of what happened this season, the men's basketball team has been the shining beacon of light the past few years as for as the big 3 sports.

  41. No, no...that was in direct response the fact that you're capable of calling an entire generation "stupid" in one thread (this one) and then turning around and, phone or not, mis-spelling a good half dozen words in a 3 sentence paragraph (a paragraph that berates our education system, no less) and then not recognizing the irony/humor in that. If you feel that's not contributing to the conversation...you're absolutely right...but then again, when you've already resolutely made up your mind on every topic discussed here, what really is the point of doing anything short of busting chops?

  45. If not for our period of practically dropping off of the map for close to 20 years, I think we could already be one of the "big boys". We've had to spend so much time recapturing the hearts of members of our own culture that we haven't had the opportunity to get back to where we should have been. If we keep moving forward as we have been lately, within 2 decades we will be at the level of Tech, Okla. State, and others in the top conferences who aren't quite to the level of UT, Michigan, Notre Dame, etc but are damned close. Also, keep in mind that when we were at our peak in the 60s-70s, alumni participation was discouraged and there was no chance of even allowing funds to be proffered. With the bureaucratic problems (at least of that sort) behind us and our current progress in the right direction, I like where we're headed.

  46. The funniest thing is that you yourself(from what you post in the pie forum) are a charaicture of the very people that would lead an entire generation to look to the Colbert Report for their everyday news intake.
