Love me? Can I strut around with my green peacock feathers now? But seriously, when I came on this board nearly five years ago, somebody told me that I would make lifelong friends following UNT athletics. For all the trials, tribulations, losses, crappy uniforms, and arguments we go through, I am so glad I chose UNT for grad school, and I'm thankful for all of you that I've met through this thing we call sports. We fight, we call each other names, we challenge each other, but we all strive for the same thing, and we eat, we drink, we weep in the common cause. I'd have this no other way. Cheers, Mean Green Nation!7 points

Our perpetually "underachieving" ex head coach is up 19 on Miss St and cruising toward 15-8. With "somebody else's players" and BEFORE his top ten recruiting class comes in. Remind me again Andrew, how many top flight recruits are lining up to live our "next year" dream?4 points

GMG.COM BASKETBALL GAME!!!! DATE: MARCH 23RD ... TIP OFF AT 10:00AM NEW LOCATION: STRICKLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL GYM - Denton ISD (due to conflicts with all possible gyms on the UNT campus, we are having to move this years game to a new location...direction will follow in a new post within this thread!) Yes, I know...very close to the Flag Football game, but such is the schedule...let's just make this happen and raise some great funds for the UNT CHEER TEAM!!!!! We will once again have a half-court shot contest at half-time, some great silent auction items, a post-game "tailgate" (Looking to have this year's after event at RUDY'S BBQ), and perhaps a tour of the new basketball practice facility for all our participants and spectators alike! BUT, first things first...we need players...so, let's see those sign-ups start ASAP! Player's fee is once again...in spite of inflationary pressures...still ONLY $25.00. All proceeds go to help support UNT's great Cheer Squad! It is going to be even more fun this year! As always, we need players, donors, sponsors, silent auction items and volunteers to help! Let me know what you might like to do to help this year...anything and everything is greatly appreciated...especially as the two events are so close together this year...I am pulling my hair out already! believe me! Ha! All for a great cause...so "good to go"!2 points

My wife and I think that once the telemarketing company does the market research on NT they are going to come back to the table and demand a bigger cut of each ticket they will sell.1 point

You really spend way too much time over here being an ass, GL2Greatness. How many Pampers has your mommy had to change on you today while on that subject? Must have probably taken you all of an hour to spell all those words (correctly) and in color to boot, but to to get down to the subject at hand and to quote Deep Green's post on this thread......"its only taken them 10 years for them to get going on this" (or something to that affect). Some thought that North Texas' CUSA membership would put a very high-powered microscope on what we've had going on up there for what has now turned into many years and it seems that microscope has already begun its magnification process. Albeit CUSA is a shadow of its former self, it will still be a better deal for North Texas with trips to Houston every other year with more close-in rivals who will have a several thousand traveling fans in many cases--that part will make Game Days at Apogee even more special. The Big East will become old hat in about 2 years, UCONN at SMU will draw about 5,000 (but reported as 18-22,000) and some of those "EX" CUSA schools will say under their respective breaths and damn sure..............NEVER FOR PUBLICATION............"what in the hell have we done here while we keep beating up on each other in football and schools from CUSA, the MWC, etc, keep sending their champion to a BCS Bowl game?" For starters why not shoot for the moon (hell, we're North Texas) and hire the entire UTSA marketing staff to duplicate what a 3 year old start-up program has done in only.........3 years and what our present staff just let out a big yawn to suggest that we will finally start doing? And then just tell that new UNT athletics marketing staff, uh, THIS!.........."we don't care what they say we cannot do in "Little D" or how we've always done it up here so just put that garbage thinking in File 13 or your notebook's Recycle Bin but THIS IS WHAT WE WANT YOU TO DO INSTEAD.....DO WHATEVER IT TAKES (and legal) among our 700,000 plus Denton County'ites to insure that there are 31,000 fans at Apogee Stadium every Game Day weekend in Denton---nothing less than 31,000." (Anyone want to wager now that most of the monies for most the salaries for such a new staff could be found from some (slackers) on the present staff by doing what Dirty Harry said at a political rally last Summer when he said........"if they're not doing their jobs..........you have to let em' go?" (Hey! It's a dog eat dog world out here where I live and I'd just bet it's the same in most of your work a day worlds, too, yet............no one ever came up to me and said..........."Hey PMG, we owe you a lifetime job whether you produce at that job or not." We have some who long ago retired in Denton that are still on the UNT payroll and that would be obvious to those who dare put down the green Kool'ade long enough to admit what even a novice not associated with North Texas would be able to see. I also realize social climbing, some semblance of status and campus politics is important to some on this forum inasmuch as their continued "no response/no demands" to the present group we have at UNT is merely feeding their fire to continue things as is. If UNT alums & Mean Green fans don't ask (or even demand) for a better product, then those at UNT will continue to feel no obligation to produce nothing more than the same ol' status quo; after all, that for years has continued to get some of them contract extensions and pay raises GMG! PS: I think Year 3 for Coach Mac's football program will be OK with 6 or so wins; I just don't know at what national ranking and that needs to be the "new normal" of our thinking process with Mean Green football because it certainly is at USM, La Tech and other outposts.1 point

Deep, the way I see it if rv's so comfortable this act alone will give him an excuse, an out for failing this year. Now there is someone to blame when there is a Capital Campaign going on & people are supposed to be producing revenue. Now can we see it, the real picture. PS someone needs to get Kram a seeing-eye dog.1 point

No doubt in my mind that Jordan Williams is the best player on this team. I've thought it for a while, but wasn't one hundred percent behind it. Now I am. The guy just finds a way to score and get points on the board no matter what. Inside and out. I'll give Tony credit that he is a monster on defense and scared Troy players into avoiding the interior. I just don't see enough offense from him on a game by game basis to say he is the better player on this team. Great win and GMG!1 point

Interesting. I would describe it as an "attacking" "eagle". And I'd wager they would get what I was saying before the door even closed. Regardless - a logo doesn't really mean anything on its own. It's just a picture. It is the company or in this case school/team that give it its meaning. That simplistic, monochromatic, apple logo is just a chrome apple without the gee whiz products they produce. That simple, monochromatic longhorn is just an orange cow head without the Heisman's, National Championships, etc they've won. We win, at a high level, consistently for years, and whatever we have on our helmets, jerseys, pants, hats etc will be held in high esteem by fans and respected by our foes.1 point

Actually, I think that they will. From what I read, it won't be another traditional law school. It will incorporate some innovations similar to those mentioned above based on a survey conducted by the associate dean.1 point

I'll hate myself by the end of the season, but I had us winning against Idaho, Tulane, S. Miss, UTEP, and UTSA. That's 5. With a 50-50 shot against Ohio and/or Rice, we should win 6 or 7. Pass the green Kool-ade please. GO MEAN GREEN1 point

This thread is bouncing all over. $410,000 is nothing for NT to pay to get that crowd pleaser Idaho into Apogee without a return game for some and too much for others. We complain about only having 5 home games in some seasons Yet some want more 1 for 2 games which would result in more 5 game home schedules or NT buying more home games from fc teams or Idaho. Probably one of the best scheduling NT has done is get Iowa for two away guarantee games replacing the top 3 powers NT usually plays in these games. Now some think that should be an 1 and 1 or a 1 for 2 or a game in Arlington. It all goes to demonstrate that you can't come close to satisfying everyone with any feasible schedule. NT has an increased budget due to the student fees and probably a modest increase from conference coffers. That increase is probably already accounted for, it does not mean that NT can jettison the away guarantee game or start signing big name teams to 1 for 1 and have a guaranteed 6 home games. Sure there are examples of big name schools occasionally playing at small venues but it is very rare. The truth is that NT has done will only having one guaranteed game a year. Playing six home games a year consistently is impossible unless NT buys games, nearly always a fc team, which in itself will become more difficult because of the number of programs moving up. All fans complaining about the schedule is not going to change the economic realities of a lower tier football program. NT has a small stadium that it does not sell out and oc scheduling is not going to change much. The best bet is to sign 1 and 1 series with like programs, play one guarantee game a year, and suffer slates with only 1 oc home game about every other year. The alternate is to buy a low cost home game which will give you 6 home games but will also limit the more attractive 1 and 1 series.1 point

New coaches come in every year all around the country. Many struggle at first...because they are taking over lousy rosters. Some get lucky and get good rosters. If Benford had inherited a ULM type of talent and won 9 games I'd think he was doing a good job and setting things up for the future. He's won 9 games with a loaded roster!1 point
