52 years from now we might be celebrating the same feat for Benford.3 points

Our perpetually "underachieving" ex head coach is up 19 on Miss St and cruising toward 15-8. With "somebody else's players" and BEFORE his top ten recruiting class comes in. Remind me again Andrew, how many top flight recruits are lining up to live our "next year" dream?2 points

I'll be disappointed with 3 or less, expect 4 or 5 and will be thrilled with 6 or more.2 points

Well, looks like recruiting is starting to reflect our record. Thanks coach.2 points

Are we sure this will actually count as a win, or will there be an asterisk next to the 500?2 points

Daffy is really a misleading nickname...when you say daffy it sounds cartoon like... Our eagle from 1995-2000 was nicely done...looked like the eagle that the NFL Philadelphia Eagles use in their marketing. It's a traditional eagle logo and not a cartoon eagle...like say..."Scrappy smiling in a letter sweater and ball cap". SOW is so bad...that we can't even figure out how to make it look good on a helmet. It's a weak mark that is over blown, unbalanced, exaggerated, life-less, simplistic, monochromatic, misproportioned, goofy and always reminds me of screaming chicken. Anyway...like I have stated before....I really support branding "mean green" and the interlocked NT.2 points

North Texas Non-Conference Games: Idaho, at Ohio, Ball State, at Georgia Games Against the East: Middle Tennessee, at Southern Miss Realistic Best Case Record: 6-6 Worst Case Record: 1-11 Likely Finish: 2-10 Pre-Preseason Projected Wins: Idaho, UTSA Pre-Preseason Projected Losses: at Ohio, Ball State, at Georgia, at Tulane, Middle Tennessee, at Louisiana Tech, at Southern Miss, Rice, UTEP, at Tulsa Summary: The Mean Green should be better, but the record probably won’t show it unless they can handle a few 50/50 games at home. Middle Tennessee, Ball State and UTEP could all go either way, and UNT needs to win them all with a run of four road games in five and finishing up the regular season with a trip to Tulsa. The late part of the season is helped by not having any November road games until the finale, but there can’t be any mistakes. Throw in away games at Ohio, Georgia and Louisiana Tech, and Idaho and UTSA become must wins. 2013 Schedule 8/31 Idaho 9/7 at Ohio 9/14 Ball State 9/21 at Georgia 9/28 OPEN DATE 10/5 at Tulane 10/12 Middle Tennessee 10/19 at Louisiana Tech 10/26 at Southern Miss 11/2 Rice 11/9 UTEP 11/16 OPEN DATE 11/23 UTSA 11/30 at Tulsa http://cfn.scout.com/2/1267191.html1 point

Just wanted to give everybody an update. I inquired to Barefoot Athletics (the new UNT apparel shop in Denton) about possibly making this shirt a reality and they said they could do it! He did ask if we would prefer them to be on Nike shirts or another brand that's less expensive. Personally, I would rather it be Nike, but I wanted to get everybody's take on it. Nike or off-brand?1 point

I really would love to work for the marketing department, I have great ideas. But I'm realistic. That'd be a job I'd be emotionally invested in and would take home.1 point
-
Agreed. Still, I would love to see an NT grad in the promotions job. Things like going door to door at businesses to put up schedule posters wouldn't fall on alumni. 40 hours a week would be spent genuinely worrying about how many people we could get into Apogee that Saturday. The paycheck would be a secondary concern. I want somebody who "takes the job home" and isn't satisfied with "good enough". We are North Texas. Inside the box, traditional methods won't/haven't worked. We need someone who is emotionally, and not just financially, invested.1 point

Cue the comments that CFN doesn't do their homework about us, doesn't know about Berglund, or is biased against the mid majors.1 point

"The Mean Green should be better, but...................." I am so sick of the above................ I want to see WINS and not a string of lame excuses for loses. To me this is a pivotal year for Coach Mac. He needs to put some W's on the scoreboard, or we need to shop for a new coach. Losing and mediocre seasons need to become a thing of the past at North Texas. I have no more patience for poor performance and excuses.1 point

Missed for the first time in about 12 years. Tough district and some close losses. Usually one of the stronger teams in Houston area but not this season1 point
-
I am not disagreeing with you or Greendyland, but both of you know the dollars just aren't there. Houston has much deeper pockets than we do. If you make a change, you are on the hook for Benford's salary plus the salary of a new coach. And if you are suggesting making a change in AD, which I assume is the consequences, then you have to buy that contract out in addition to a new AD's salary. Maybe somebody else can speak to this, but I bet the present AD's contract is longer than 5 years. I think you already know all of this anyway. So, and just hypothetically ONLY, would you delay the start of a few things such as baseball to make this change or changes?1 point
-
You need to reconsider the Rice game. Check out what they did last year and who they have returning. The only thing that gives us even a glimmer of hope in this game is that it is at Apogee. Ohio is much the same, except we play them on the road. That one is a loss.1 point

It would go something like this... *NT didn't have a head coach present.1 point

THIS season is almost over . . . but then there will be two or three more just like it (or likely much worse) unless RV does something to stop the hemorrhaging. Allowing this program to bottom out--at what was publicly billed as its highest point--for a few years would be effectively presenting a self-imposed death penalty. If, as some of you have indicated, we do not have the ability or will to prevent this disasterous scenario, then we will be broadcasting a very strong message about the feeble condition of our athletic program and the ineptness of its leadership. To regional/national recruits, area high school coaches, members of the media, UNT almuni, potential big donors etc., the situation probably looks something like this: "Wow, even when that school somehow manages to stumble upon top-notch players, they find a way to bungle the hiring of a new coach and still suck. And, they don't seem to care enough to do anything about it." Let's instead show them that we are dedicated to the realistic advancing of our athletic programs...1 point

Mac will be here for his 4th season I believe no matter what happens this year. If Dodge was given a 4th one after his first 3, no way you don't bring Mac back for his fourth.1 point

If Thompson starts, this is possible. I don't see it. Mac went 5-7 with the terrible 2011 team. Transfers will be huge. Predictions from these places are poor because they don't do much research into the situation (i.e. Berglund starting). I stand by my prediction of 7-5. There's too much talent for 2-10.1 point

I can't imagine we'd bring McCarney back if we only win two games next year, but this is UNT so conventional thinking doesn't apply1 point

Penn St did it for me. Forget just football, as an institution, they made a conscious decision to protect their ability to generate donor contributions to grow their endowment (as Paterno was their top donation getter) than on just simply obeying the law and turning in a pedophile. The more time passes, the clearer this becomes. Forget all the emotion. If Sandusky is busted just once, maybe you can excuse a rash emotional decision. But it went on for years, and each time a new situation arose the institution responded the same. It's not the NCAA that is at fault. It's on the individual member institutions that refuse to collectively take a stand. The reward for victory is riches, and at the highest levels those riches equate to billion dollar endowments. With that kind of money at stake there will always be problems amongst those trying to chase it. The NCAA only has whatever power its individual member institutions grant it.1 point

DUH! No more injuries, and players with no initiative will be gone. And we'll get some new blood in here that will be able to play Benford's style!! There's ALWAYS next year.1 point

Yep, Weatherbe goes 6-6, kicks our rear by, what 24 points? and is fired. This at a school with far less resources but apparently far more commitment to winning. This school has a small window to be relevant, and we just took a HUGE step backwards. We just showed everyone that, as a university, winning college football games is not a priority. Jon, Mandy, I really feel for you. You guys have to try and sell priority seating to the new stadium when your employer has just told your product's consumers that they don't give a rats @#$ about the quality of the product you are trying to sell. Good Luck, you guys are going to need it in the days ahead. We wonder why we can't get the attention of the 100,000 alumni in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. You know, those casual observers of their old school that don't give, don't return for games. Today is a perfect example of why these people divorce themselves from UNT. Why should they care? Really? Please give me any example. Next Spring we will have the usual suspects on here predicting 9 wins, we will struggle to win 3 games, and we will have the usual suspects on this board arguing that Dodge needs more time. Unbelievable. I will wait and make an unemotional decision about season tickets next year, but I am leaning toward no.1 point
