What do the apologists and people like Andrew have to say right about now? If you go back and look at last year at the end of the year Alzee, Tony, Roger, Walton, and Holmen were playing huge minutes down the stretch and Alzee and Tony played almost every minute in Hot Springs and we were awfully close to being in the NCAA tournament. So we still have Alzee, Tony, and Roger playing huge minutes but is it because we have Jordan instead of Walton is that why we can't beat Monroe? No it's not. It starts and ends with the man in charge. He has totally sucked the life out of a program that worked so hard to be an 18-22 win team playing to go to the big dance every year. He may be a great guy but this has been a disaster. I have already heard people say they won't renew their season tickets next year.

We were preseason favorites to win the league. We were returning our best talent from a team that nearly made the NCAA's last year. We had arguably the most talented basketball team we've ever had. We are a joke this year. Benford must go.

Given that CUSA is in the process of adding two startup programs and has added one program that bypassed the full transitional process, Western Kentucky makes a lot of sense. But, if I were Louisiana and Arkansas State, I'd be pissed. Banowsky had previously made a big deal over TV markets so it's somewhat a mystery that he'd take the #182 market, which is near the bottom of the FBS. Okay, Arkansas State is only one notch above with about 2,000 more TV households but Lafayette has about 150K more sets than Bowling Green. Both Louisiana and Arkansas State have 30,000+ football stadiums; WKU's stadium seats 23,500. Western Kentucky, even with its storied basketball past, has a much smaller arena than both Louisiana and Arky State. Facilities advantage to the Cajuns and the Red Wolves. Time in grade? Western has completed five years in the FBS. Both Louisiana and Arkansas State have been in Division 1A for more than 25 years. Maybe it's their football record then? Well, no. In the past two years (WKU's only winning years) Arkansas State is 20-5; Louisiana is 18-8; and Western is 14-11. It can't be attendance either. Last year was WKU's best ever and they averaged a little over 17,400. Arkansas State had their best year ever, with an average of more than 25K and Louisiana averaged roughly 23,500. And, the Cajuns were largely responsible for a New Orleans Bowl record 48,800. The year before Louisiana had averaged 29,000+ regular-season attendance. Western Kentucky is a little better at most of the other sports except baseball, where Louisiana has had a pretty colorful past. Is that enough to make them sexier and put them ahead of two more-qualified candidates?

NO! I have nothing against considering the hilltoppers if we loose a few members, but right now the conference has already put itself in a corner by adding too quickly once. I still think C-USA would be in a better position if old dominion and particularly Charlotte had not been added in a forseeably futile effort to hold ECU.

Fire Benford's ass now!! We just got swept by the worst program in the Belt. ULM has won 4 games and 2 have been against us. There is no excuse for this. Coming into tonight ULM had an rpi 303 and a Sagarin rating of 315. Preseason favorites in our divison and we are in LAST PLACE. This is absolutely unacceptable.

Have you ever heard of Ole Miss being referred to as anything other than Ole Miss? That's the point. They do not wish to be The University of Mississippi. They want to be Ole Miss so that is what they put forward. RV wants the world to know us as North Texas, followed by Mean Green and lastly Eagles which is how it is put forward. Many on this board suffer from the "Curse of Knoweledge" We know who we are so it clouds how we think the world should see us. The casual college football fan though really has no clue. One key to effective branding is repetition and frequency. If a person flips on the TV in the middle of a play and sees the ball about to be snapped they will see "North Texas" on the helmet. It is an instant get. They dont have to ask anyone in the room. And they see that play after play after play. Put the SOW or interlocking NT and they wont know until an announcer says it or they look to the score (if it is on screen.) Bash him all you want but from a branding perspective (introduction/education to/of the consumer) RV is doing it the right way. Especially considering we've never had any helmet design last more than 6-7 years in our Div 1/FBS history.

i have the number 13 and 7 white shirts made by nike and the quality is fabulous. i also have other north texas shirts made on other brand shirts and they aren't near as soft...i like soft material on my manly body... if i could get a nike shirt without the swoosh, i'd like that even more!

Tony was ranked 2nd best player in Texas, Jordan was 6th, Roger was at Ok. st,, Alzee was great last year and has been a great Sun Belt player...........How do you have that and still lose to Monroe twice? They should be able to go out and play knockout everyday in practice and then still go beat Monroe. Shouldn't take 25 games to learn how to defend or get good shots in an offense. But of course since you have coached past the middle school level, talked to a UNT player on Facebook and have played a pickup game at the rec you know something we all don't.

New coaches come in every year all around the country. Many struggle at first...because they are taking over lousy rosters. Some get lucky and get good rosters. If Benford had inherited a ULM type of talent and won 9 games I'd think he was doing a good job and setting things up for the future. He's won 9 games with a loaded roster!

Holy shit! There was a game tonight?!? I thought the season was over. I literally was trying to go into the football forum and stumbled across this.

If JJ didn't run much of a system and we made it as far as we did then why can't Benford just roll the ball out there and tell them to play too? His job is to win games. He can try and teach them a system, but guess what, if they don't catch on its HIS job as a coach to make it work. A coach can't keep trying to jam a square peg in a round hole. That simple. As a coach you need to make changes as the season goes. Like with Dodge not making 2nd half adjustments, same thing, you change as the season progresses.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a bad idea... Im not a parent, but how would you tell your kid that youre going to watch a football game instead of trick or treating... I think the attendance will be like a thanksgiving weekend game

I find it interesting that many on this board complain about traditions or lack thereof and or how we constantly change things, be it uniforms, colors etc never allowing anything to get a toehold with our fans, students, alums. And yet so many want to ditch the "North Texas" on the helmets for something else. You may not like the look, but fact is, "North Texas" emblazoned on the side of our helmets is a look that has been a tradition longer than anything we've ever had, helmet wise, in our Div.1/FBS history. And while I'm not really a fan of the font they created I say stick with it. SOW can live elsewhere on the uni's. post script: Other schools that put their name on the helmet: Ole Miss, Illinois, Boise State. Not bad company.
