The idea that Brett should have buried this story might be the dumbest thing I've ever read on this board.... AND WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A BOARD THAT HARBORS TONY BENFORD SUPPORTERS.4 points
-
Isn't it Brett's job to report stuff? So, he was just doing his job, right? Could he have held the news until after signing day? Who knows. I know this about human nature, though: Treat someone well and they'll be inclined to help you when they can. Dickey got along well with Brett. Dodge tried to treat him like the high school journalism kid. McCarney? Hard to tell. I know not all coaches like the press. But, in the scheme of things, the heat isn't turned up very high at North Texas. In fact, I'd say it's pretty permanently set on warm/lo. Win and treat people well. Until that happens, no one should be complaining about whatever tiny bit of press coverage UNT gets. If it weren't for Brett and the DRC, there would be virtually none.4 points

Tony is not listed in Fran's Top 25 list of college basketball players. Fran actually dropped 12 other guys this week that had appeared previously. Moving up the chart, however, (#11) is Marcus Smart of Flower Mound Marcus (OSU). Despite what the scouts have said, I've never felt that Tony was NBA material. (At least not at this point) Being drafted and making a roster are two separate things. I was blasted for my opinion last year. I am certainly not in Tony's circle but I would not be shocked if he returns next year as he will not make an NBA roster next year. Money in Europe and the D league will always be there for him; whenever his eligibility is up. He just needs to decide if he enjoys school or playing on this team for this coach. I hope, for his sake, that he seriously considers another year of college. This may sound strange but I actually believe that our team will be better without him. Not that he is a bad player but because the coaching staff doesn't know what to do with him which hurts the overall team and chemistry. Tony has played out of position (point forward) from day one and his confidence is shot.4 points

Well CFN does preseaseason rankings since 2010 from what I can see.... funily enough in all 3 years we were outside the top 100 before the season and inside it in their final ranking, this year -by their own admission-we get almost everyone back from what they ranked team number 88 after last season, yet they push our preseason ranking below the one they gave for the last Dodge season. I'd be mildly amused if it were not for the fact that this kind of thing fosters perceptions that are unhelpfull during recruiting3 points

Went to my first two tennis matches this weekend. On Sat. UNT pretty much destroyed future CUSA mate ODU 6-1. On Sunday, the ladies came back to beat a tougher Lamar squad....it was over at 4-0 UNT, but I don't recall the exact final score. In doubles against Lamar today, UNT made some excellent comebacks after a slow start to take the doubles point, then took care of business in the singles matches. All this, great weather, free admission and they gave us free pizza and popcorn on Saturday, then free bagels, rolls, coffee, juice, fruit, cheese and snacks on Sunday. All this and I got to see UNT win TWICE! Greatness...Coach Lama is doing a great job for UNT...really a family atmosphere with games for the fans at the doubles/singles switchover break! If you have not seen a match, I highly recommend that you stop by and watch one soon. Great fun and these ladies are all business once they step on the court. Really had a great time! Well done ladies! You rock!2 points

Kinda saw this one coming from a mile away. Wish nothing but the best for these two guys.2 points

It's possible he would start here and redishirt @ TCU... or vice-versa! And I don't mean to single you out, but that seems to be a pervading thought around here... like we're so terrible, that a starter-caliber guy for UNT would ride pine at TCU. I'd be willing to bet that TCU would love to have Brelan Chancellor or other guys we have here starting for them.2 points

I had a great time with your mother last night. She was built tight, there's no way she had a kid. You must have been adopted.2 points

Let me share some wisdom with you guys. When a recruit commits, he commits to the coaching staff not the school. Hence why a bunch of recruits jump ship when a coach leaves a program.2 points

The only positive we get from this is at least we are finding this out before signing day giving us a little time to find whatever else is out there TRYING TO BE POSITIVE2 points

He said that he likes TCU is playing LSU to open the season. Why does playing LSU one time where you won't play compared to having two Louisana schools in CUSA where you will get plenty of playing time. Position coaches leave all the time. It's about the school and the program. Not one coach.2 points

I'm absolutely amazed that we still have people who honestly believe that it is logical to blame 18-20 year olds who have PLAYED AT A HIGH LEVEL THEIR ENTIRE BASKETBALL CAREER UNTIL THIS SEASON. But, since I'm a big proponent of education and allowing people to see things from a different view at time, let's bake some cookies. (KRAM, step away from the keyboard...I know you want to chime in right here) Now, for the first ten years we're gonna bake our cookies with the following ingredients: Eggs Flour Sugar Butter Vanilla Extract Chocolate Chips Walnuts Pretty decent cookies. Now, let's make a slight change to our cookie recipe. Now let's bake our cookies with: Eggs Flour Sugar Butter Vanilla Extract Chocolate Chips Motor Oil Some of you, inexplicably, would honestly tell me (and more importantly, the people who DON'T buy tickets out of love for NT) that the reason their cookies taste like fermented ass is BECAUSE OF THE F'ING BUTTER, SUGAR OR EGGS!!??? Anything not to blame the motor oil or the chef who threw it into the mix, huh?2 points

Maybe we are starting to see why Dickey kept everything under wraps until signing day.2 points
-
Oh well. If he'd come here he would have just ended up getting outperformed by some walkon anyway.2 points

This sucks but I can't fault a kid's thinking of going to TCU to play in the Big 12 versus coming into a very struggling FB program here at NT. Yes he may have to wait a couple of years before he gets a chance if ever but at 18 years old you rarely ever think about those things.2 points

So, last year our bakery used only the finest walnuts. However, that particular brand of walnuts is no longer available. Instead of ordering a five year supply of a different brand of walnuts, our head baker accidentally ordered a five year supply of motor oil. Now that all the regulars of our bakery have been vomiting and vowing never to return, we have realized that motor oil is not now nor will ever be an acceptable substitute for walnuts. Regardless, we are stuck using motor oil for years to come even though we all know it is poisonous. Apparently, we are one of the poorest bakeries in our city and we spent every last cent we could scrounge up on the motor oil. Now the chocolate chip and flour distributors will also likely stop servicing our bakery because they don't want to be associated with the sickness and health code violations resulting from our cookies. I guess we just have to give up on cookies for the next decade or more until we run out of motor oil and the public forgets about how dangerous and disgusting our products have become. To keep our bakery in business, we really need to hope that our bread starts to improve. It hasn't sold well since 2004! That sad part is that prior to the motor oil incident our cookies were often finalists in our annual neighborhood baking contest.2 points

One would think Gaines could have used his brain and waited a couple days....unless this is some sort of serious personal matter...in which case officially resigning probably would not have been a priority anyway though. Really funny how nothing ever goes right for us...oh wait, we did steal that one recruit from TSSM.2 points

This kid was being recruited by UTSA and looks to be getting flipped to TCU... Double bonus for us. One less scholarship at TCU and one less athlete at UTSA2 points

That's pretty absurd. Mitchell's like 6'9" 235--almost 7'6" wingspan--40-inch vertical--athleticism completely off the charts. With those measurements he would get drafted if he'd never even played the game before, much less dominated at the Lebron camp. I would guess that when April gets here his time at UNT will be an afterthought for the majority of NBA scouts. Does everyone forget that Bismack Biyombo went something like 6th-8th overall while he couldn't run and chew gum at the same time? Tony will definitely get his opportunity in the league. Whether or not he does anything with said opportunity remains to be seen.2 points

. --- Absolutely agree.... That has been my argument against teachers carrying guns... I feel more people will be killed accidentally that would be saved... [ even knew a lady who dropped hers, it fired, she died ]... I see no problem with guns locked in cars or even locked up in a office... I am very far from anti-gun. ... but there has to be common sense. I have seen too much careless handling of guns..especially by those who grew up in urban environment.... so many seem to think of them as toys..... Rural-types rarely do. Remember Plexico Burriss ....it was concealed in his pocket and somehow it fired... fortunately no one died... Didn't matter if he legally had it or not.... that isn't the point.... it accidentally fired... it likely would in some teachers' pockets also.2 points

I have to chime in and agree with you guys. Who cares if somebody else underestimates you? Make North Texas your home, and show everyone why you deserve to be a first choice. You can excel anywhere if given the chance, but opportunity is the key, and UNT fosters excellence rather than holding it back. If you come to Denton, you will be pushed to exceed even your own expectations, and you will surprise yourself along with everyone else with how much you accomplish and develop in every area, from the field to the weight room to the classroom and beyond. You won't be sorry.2 points

Last night I went to the Chicken Express by UNT. I love that place. I think they have more UNT stuff on their walls then all the other businesses in Denton combined. They even have last season's football poster framed on their wall. Does anyone know if the owner is a Mean Green Club member or a poster here on Go Mean Green?1 point

it is so crazy how many games I could have actually made it to this year but just couldn't muster up the energy to drive the 30 miles. The entire situation sickens me. I am ready for these players to go. I am ready for benford to get his players in and prove to us he can coach. without being close to the program, my gut tells me there are several power players on that team that influence the entire squad. benford has fault in not being able to connect with the talent that was left behind. however, when good players quit they can take a titanic size ship down. what a shame these kids will look back at what could have been a magical season. they peesed it away and killed the emotion in a budding program. everyone has some fault in this but all we can do is move forward. 1. get rid of these players 2. give benford 2 more years to assemble his talent and prove he can coach 3. rv - beg your fanbase for patience 4. get ready for a bigger time I only want to watch players and coaches that want to be here and win.
