Exciting to see. Sure would be nice if the populace of Denton would take a look at these numbers. $1 Billion dollars directly into the local economy thanks to UNT. Not to mention the future dollars said improvements will bring to town. Of course The University could save a ton by scrapping the science cluster and just build a small chapel instead.4 points

With signing day just around the corner and spring ball not far behind, I think it's fair to say that the third year of the Dan McCarney era will be critical not just for the coach, but for the AD and UNT athletics as well. McCarney has done a lot of good things so far in his first two years considering the train wreck he inherited, but going into his third season with the majority of his roster made up of his recruits, it's going to be time for him to show that he has the program headed in the right direction and that means in terms of wins. We can talk about recruiting and offseason workouts, but ultimately it comes down to wins and losses on the field. I've said before, the days of college coaches getting 4-5 years to turn a program around are over. That third is critical because it is often used as a benchmark to see if the current coach has things going in the right direction or not. If it is, the coach gets the 4th and 5th year. If not, it's not uncommon for a head coaching change to be made. Does that mean it's bowl game or bust for UNT in 2013? No, but I think to show that McCarney is the right man, that he has to win 5 or 6 games next season and with our schedule, that's certainly not unreasonable. Our nonconference schedule is the best it's been in years. There's no reason for UNT to enter Conference USA play next year with anything less an a 2-2 record. 3-1 is even possible. Start 1-3 or worst case scenario 0-4, and the doubts will start to creep in. If UNT has another 3 or 4 win season, then I think UNT has to seriously consider whether McCarney is the right person for the job, especially after making the horrid decision to give Todd Dodge a fourth year. Taking it a step further, McCarney's success or failure may likely impact the tenure of Rick Villarreal as well.Right now the jury's still out on McCarney but If he ultimately cannot get UNT back to a winning record and a bowl game, I wouldn't rule out that RV may not get a chance to hire a third football coach especially after one of the worst hires in NCAA history in Todd Dodge. Add to that a men's basketball program that entered the season with high expectations and has been a disaster with a head coach in Tony Benford (ranks right up there with the Dodge hire as far as a program killer) not to mention Shanice Stephens, and, outside of Johnny Jones, RV has not exactly been superb in his coaching hires for the major sports (football, men's and women's basketball). Yes he's done a lot for the university as far as facilities (we wouldn't have Apogee without him), but again, it comes down to your programs winning more than losing, and at UNT, football is still the #1 sport and McCarney's success or failure may determine the athletic director's future.3 points

Our football program finally made the top 10 in something. Bleacher Report ranks us #9 in top 25 teams who need a uniform upgrade.3 points

Denton has not and will not do anything that cost city $$$$. Have development cross that county line---- DFW is where the action is--let Denton be the backwoods non-college town it wants to be.3 points

Not a slam at NT, but I think a lot of colleges need to rethink the money they are spending. Traditional education is pricing itself out of the market. All those government backed loans have kept colleges going, but at some point I am afraid that is going to come to a crashing halt. It makes no economical sense to spend thousands of dollars on degrees that there is no market for. There are already many predicting that the educational loan bubble could be as devastating as the housing debacle. Even if that does not happen, I see a focus away from brick and mortar facilities to online education that is going to leave an over supply of facilities and to some extent educators.3 points

These are the types of players that make offensive coordinators cringe. He is a 2 star athlete because he is from a 3a district and maybe a little undersized. But makes up for it with speed. He could benefit from a college strength and conditioning program and turn into a BEAST.2 points

. ---Forget the crazy details... either you believe God exists or that he doesn't.....period...It is all about faith and beliefs... you can't prove anything....The details and the crazy interpretations is most of the problem... "To the four corners of the Earth" didn't mean it was flat either.... but that crazy Pope and others thought it did. We have people thinking birth control is bad...... some don't think you shouldn't cut hair.....some think women should wear dresses to the floor and no makeup..... some don't use modern appliances, cars, or electricity... some think if you don't believe as I do, I can kill you.... Some think Saturday is the seventh day (some European calendars have Sunday as day seven and Monday as first... bet they are confused there)... ---I don't see much fight coming from the science side but I do see a lot from the religion side coming up with anti-science arguments... then science responds to it. Electricity isn't the work of the devil as some once in religion claimed and the world isn't flat. Evolution... it exists, at least somewhat.. I am not about to argue about evolution of "monkey (whatever)" to man. It is a theory ( not proven fact) ... take it or leave it... I have had a lot of math/science and often amazed as to how things work ...I see no conflict.... what happened in the beginning happened and who cares about details. ---My big problem are these guys who "think?" they absolutely know the answers... which includes the nutty First Baptist-Dallas minister claiming Obama is the forerunner of the anti-christ... really... they said the same about Hitler, and others... Quit making up stuff [ aka bearing false witness ] ... You are driving people away with those insane claims and look very stupid... ---More wars have had a religious issue involved and had more people killed than for any other reason... even in WWII the Jewish religion was an issue in a so-called Christian country. The Protestant reformation resulted in 1000's (or millions) being killed. Today's big problem in the Middle East is mostly about religious fanatics. .... Assuming God exists.... I doubt he approves of all of this. ---Pretty much everything can be summarized to one statement--- "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". ... which includes don't go around lying about others or killing them. _______ FFR --How is the heck do you think I am a pagan liberal.... as you claim in posts... I am Christian, but not extremely gullible to some groups claims, .. and I hated the debt getting out of control after 2001, said so, and so many just ignored it and then claimed to be conservative....also I thought the Iraq invasion (a war with seemed unjustified because no real evidence of nukes (wasn't any)... but it killed/disabled a lot of people and likely was a mistake .... I don't think some here really understand what conservative means.... to me-- pay your bills, stay out of debt, and mind your own business unless they are doing something that harms you ... includes not claiming your religious beliefs is the correct one .... If you read the US Treasury site chart (which you didn't dare to comment on)... you know my debt comment is true... it started the rapid climb after 2001..not 2009.... and is still climbing.... mostly because Congress will do nothing (Norquest pledge is a problem). .2 points

I'm not going to re-post GL2Greatness' quote, but he seems to have pretty much nailed it. UNT is in another lull. What did happen to that capital campaign and all the hoopla regarding Tier 1 status? Is that still happening? University of North Texas has terrible leadership now, at a time when we should be moving up in the world of academia and stature. I really question what is going on up in Denton. Could it be that this effects our reputation, and recruiting in sports? Maybe.2 points

I didn't think I would be able to buy one, at least not for a while after graduation. Then landed a sweet part time gig with Paramount Pictures 6 months after graduation. I cashed my first check and walked over to the Josten's rep who was on campus that day at the Union and paid cash for The largest crown they offered at the time. I love the interlocked "NT" it has on one side which is in an Eagle's grasping Talon, and the Hurley Administration Clock Tower on the other. Soon after it arrived, my grandmother gave me a diamond from her wedding ring to place in the center of the dome, so it bares many special meanings to me. I only wear it on game days. Rick2 points

I recently moved to the St Louis area and I have to brag on my Div II UMSL Tritons. These guys are shooting over 80% FT as a team! That was one of my biggest gripes with UNT for years is how dreadful we were in the FT%. How many games were lost by 2 points, 4 points, etc? You have to hit those free throws to win. My dad talks of growing up in Kentucky where if you weren't able to hit at least 75-80% of your free throws you didn't make the team. Sad thing is that it mostly just takes practice and when they slack off drilling free throws in practice you can tell by the result on the court. Hopefully UNT can get it's act together before the SBC tournament. As long as your hot in late February-March that really is what counts. Missing the Super Pit but still follwing the Mean Green on the net. GMG!2 points

I'll never forget one day my freshman year I was walking to a bio or chem class from Clark Hall, and it began just pouring, so I thought I'd duck into the music building, cut over and come out over by the admin building, right across from the bio side entrance since I knew there was a door over there... Needless to say, I was totally lost for about 5 minutes in that monstrous, nonsensical building. If we're going to hang our hat on the music program, I'm fine with giving them a building to rival the new business building.2 points

Lonnie, I've read that a couple of times & I'm still not sure what your point is. You seem to have a problem with random events. Physicists do indeed talk about random events but what they mean, usually, is events which are, in fact, caused but our understanding of the cause-and-effect relationships are, at least for now, beyond our ability to observe. No physicist believes the events of the Big Bang are magical (and that seems to be what you mean when you say 'random') - everything that occurred was in accord with the laws that govern energy & matter (though those laws may have been a bit exotic in the first few milliseconds following the 'bang'). Turning to evolution - a subject with which I am more comfortable - 'randomness' is not a very useful term. The source of the variability on which evolution depends is mutation. Mutation is often described as 'random' but that's again a reflection of our failure to understand the cause-and-effect events that lead to mutation. Mutations are determined by physical events. Even more importantly, the probability of any particular mutation is determined by the biological context in which it occurs. As an example, previous mutational events may raise the probability of new mutations occurring in that cell lineage (you may recognize this as part of the process of carcinogenesis). Even if you insist on calling mutation 'random', don't make the mistake of thinking the other components of evolution are random. Natural selection, the major process by which evolution occurs, is a determinant process. Mutations that are detrimental (i.e., make reproduction less likely) are selected against. Mutations that are beneficial (make reproduction more likely) are selected for. Neither physics nor biology are magical. Neither physics nor biology are random in a real sense.2 points

Stop the "hot seat" non-sense. Mac's job is secure. In two seasons MAC has more wins than Dodge did in four. That's called progress. This "We should demand more, I have high standards, we have a new stadium now" banter is tired and empirically false. Mac is taking our team from the worst era in school history and completely rebuilding it. Coupled with the fact that we are moving into a tougher conference any well informed fan would have reasonalbe expectations for the next two seasons.2 points

Unless I missed something in the transfer, it's the other way around. SMU has already made the bucks from A$M visiting Ford now it's the Mustangs time to visit Kyle. The Aggies can sell out Kyle regardless of who they play but they are more interested in a sure win. Sorry SMU, it's now time to pay the fiddler. Pony up!1 point

Are you new around here? Let me give you a glimpse into the future. All of the following will be said this year. "He doesn't have all his own players" "A coach deserves four years" "Player X was hurt" "We can't afford the buyout" "We were really close in (insert this or that game)...I think we turn the corner in 2014" "It's a new, tougher, league." And my personal favorite "Dodge was so bad that anything better than Dodge is...progress." This is essentially, "My husband used to be an alcoholic, a womanizer and he beat me....now he just beats me. Ain't he grand?!" For brevity's sake you can condense them all down to "We're North Texas. We've never seen results so we won't demand them"1 point

Round the bend crazy, here. Home: Idaho - win Ball St. - loss MTSU - loss Rice - loss UTEP - loss UTSA - win (it freaking better be a win. A loss in this game could be a fireable offense) Away: Ohio - loss Georgia - loss La. Tech - loss So. Miss. - loss Tulane - win Tulsa - loss A much more realistic view. If things go perfect, we could also win So. Miss, La. Tech, and UTEP. But if things had gone perfect last year, I counted 8 wins. We got 4. Based on that half theory, I have 3 wins. Things rarely go perfect for any team in a football playing season. I think people on here really underestimate the increased competition level of CUSA.1 point

So we have 5 teams that went to bowls last season on our schedule (4 bowl winners), plus 2 teams that went 8-4 and 1 that went 9-3 that did not go to a bowl? I would say we have our work cut out for us to say the least.1 point
