  1. Anyone else feel like Benford's lack of ability to rapidly substitute has something to do with tonight's win?

  2. Dude. Maybe we haven't exactly been lighting up the joint under Mac, but the last two seasons have been NOTHING like the Dodge debacle.

  5. We absolutely were. College Football News used to do a a 3-year football ranking of programs and we were in the bottom 10 Dodge. The Dodge era was the worst in school history and there's no debating it.

  6. @espn_macmahon: Believe it or not, Jim Harbaugh interviewed for the North Texas job when Todd Dodge got it. Six years later, he's headed to Super Bowl. It hurts so much to think about what could have been. I think this was probably the biggest mistake we made in the last 10 years.

  8. Just off the top of my head, teams that WERE on that list that went bowling after the 2012 season: #10 Bowling Green - An 8-5 record and a Military Bowl loss to San Jose St. #9 Vanderbilt - A 9-4 record and a Music City Bowl win over N.C. State. #8 WKU - A 7-6 record and a Little Ceasars Bowl loss to Western Michigan. #2 San Jose St. - An 11-2 record with a Military Bowl Win over Bowling Green. Ya, thats right the second worst team in college football turned it around. On the waiting list: Duke - A 6-7 record with a Belk Bowl (??) loss to Cincinnati. LaLa - A 9-4 record and a New Orleans Bowl win over East Carolina. Central Michigan - A 7-6 record and a Little Ceasar Bowl victory over WKU. Ball St. - A 9-4 record with a Beef O'Brady's Bowl loss to UCF Knights. And may I point out that Ball St. was up, down, and back up again while we have continued to SUCK. All of these teams were considered to be in a worse state than UNT at the end of 2010 have turned it around. By several of the posts on here, it's pretty clear that we not only continue to accept losing, but actively make excuses for it.

  9. Info has been kinda hard. Maxpreps hasn't listed any stats for Kingwood this year. I did find this article on a game tho > http://ourtribune.com/article.php?id=14638

  10. With a brand new stadium, better perceived conference to recruit to and a 500k salary, we shouldn't accept losing anymore.

  15. Three reasons CUSA made this move. 1. CUSA was working to buffer against an early exit by Tulane & ECU. If those two left early CUSA would be at 10; wouldn't be able to have a championship game and would have to completely atler it's schedule for a single division set up for one year. CUSA just worked out its insurance policy faster than the Big East's expansion plans. 2. Adding FAU & MTSU early lets CUSA move into its 7-team divisional format a year early. The conference had already done the math and figured out how to make it work, so why wait. 3. Adding these teams a year early let's CUSA count the market share/tv/attenandce these schools bring a year early towards any future deals. Basically they are able to show the value of the new CUSA now, with less questions about what is the value of adding 4 teams (FAU, MTSU, ODU, UNC-C) versus replacing Tulane & ECU with start ups UNC-C & ODU. 4. Gets FAU & MTSU out of the SBC before the SBC finds away to raise the exit fees on the departing teams.

  16. I'd much rather see MT than either of the FL schools. MT, in my eyes, is probably the closest thing to a 'rival' I've seen since I've been associated with UNT. Some great close games, and some blowouts (for both schools). I'm not upset that they are joining us in C-USA.

  19. Yawn. All contracts can be can be altered or opted out of. There are consequences to doing so, but very difintion of a contract means their is an exit clause. I also think in this world of college sports chat room talk it is nice to seeing fanbase being civil towards each other.

  20. I don't mind that he is taking his official visit but...unless we are losing one of the five signees/commitments where would we put him? We will have 16 offensive linemen if everyone shows. Everyone except, maybe, Kirby is on scholarship. I would consider most/all FBS-quality linemen. Offensive linemen do not get substituted as often as the defensive positions. The biggest need is on defense; especially linemen. I hope we see who accepts before extending an offer.

  21. @ReggieRankin: @RcsSports North Texas head coach Tony Benford has got something to work with in post Josh Friar. College ready body with terrific upside. Rankin had this to say a few months ago

  24. A new Athletic Director I predict we will have another losing season next year and of course everybody from the administration at top to what fans we have left at the bottom will accept it. And some fans will continue to come here and blame other fans for this mess. This is North Texas after all...

  27. Bump for Kingwood Green. How've things been going with Josh and Kingwood?

  28. I liked that too. This is not something that should be kept up in the long run, but playing primarily five guys the whole game does have its upsides. It creates good team chemistry and if the players are good, you get to keep your good players on the court, even though it is forced. Once a few guys come back they should hopefully fit into our rotation well, but we know the guys that need to be in our rotation come crunch time.

  31. Yes, at this point, we are all so mad that whatever any coach or administration member says, we won't want to hear it. Just win. We don't need to be reminded of our current standing in the NCAA pecking order or told how much awesomer it will be when x and y happen....

  32. The frustrating thing is that 3 of the teams on the list that year all went bowling this year. San Jose State(11 wins), Western Kentucky(7 wins), Bowling Green(8 wins). Damn.

  41. Silent Auction Update: Folks, we have some great auction items developing for this year's event... 1) We will have a great UNT Door Wreath handmade by none other than NT03's better half...photo soon 2) We have (2) autographed copies of UNT grad Brant Croucher's great CD "Old Denton Roads" 3) And...rumor has it that we will have autographed copies of Lance Dunbar Photos in both UNT and Dallas Cowboy gear...and we may (MAY) have a Lance Dunbar Autographed Dallas Cowboy jersey! Not promising these items as yet, but if/when they materialize we will get photos up on GMG.Com for all to drool over! Dunbar photos are of him in game action situations as well. Keep your fingers crossed. 4) We also have a Mean Green T-Shirt in 2X 5) More rumor...but may have autographed photos of Coach Mac, Coach Benford and Coach Petersen...all In action". It's early and there will be more items announced as folks donate them or as I am able to procure them...but, I think you can see that this year's auction may just be the best yet! We NEED YOUR HELP! We need more and varied silent auction items. If you cannot play and cannot donate for one reason or another, perhaps you have an item that would be good for the silent auction. And, they do not have to all be UNT related...lots of great items can be used and as you can see from the donated single T-Shirt...they can be of almost any value as well. You can, of course play, donate funds to the event, sponsor the event and donate an auction item as well....anything and all are prefectly fine! :-) PM me if you have any ideas and I can get with you on delivery, etc.

  45. Everyone seems to want UNT to recruit top notch athletes being recruited by the big boys, yet when we do, folks throw their hands up and say UNT cannot compete with the big boys. Interesting that these folks get what they want and then they still aren't happy. Just can't please some folks it seems. For me, I like to see UNT stepping up its recruiting .... will win some...will lose some....but at least UNT will be in the hunt! Sign this kid, and get him in class. He might be ready to study for a change as well as play football. Mark
