  1. This will be the last I say on this b/c we have pretty much beat this dead horse but you do realize you can go back and look at old posts, right? Well there are posts from last January that have the name Andrew on them but when people replied to your quote it said quoted by Skiver. You can go back and look at when Jrodan and Chris became ineligible last year and there are a bunch of quotes by you and it says Andrew was created in Feb. 2012 but these were quotes by you in January of 2012. But anyhow carry on and let's hope Benford and the boys can turn it around.

  4. I definately agree but, let me give you some advise. Irregardless of what people post on this board I try not to loose my prespective because I could care less. I have literally just learned to except it and move on. Some people are just wierd and you can't do anything about there mispelling and gramar weather you agree with them or not. Its not like you're corrections are going to effect them alot in the longrun. You might as well just accomodate them and make them feel at home by giving them posting priviledges rather then chastize them.

  5. I know we haven't seen him do anything at NT yet, but doesn't he seem to just carry himself so well and act like a leader? I have a fondness for DT and what he has done, but I really love BB's attitude. He seems like a a mini Coach Mac. I can't stop envisioning that Rivals rankings that had him in between Johnny Football and a QB that played for a national title this season. I know it means nothing, but still really cool. I hope he brings some similar magic to Denton.

  11. This year's Mean green signing day event will take place on Feb. 6th at Apogee Stadium (Club Level Area)...Doors will open at 6PM and event begins at 6:30PM. Dinner and beverages will be available. Cost is $10 for Mean green Club Members/$20 for Non-Mean Green Club members. RSVP to Taryn Houghton by Feb 4th at 940-369-7284. One again this will be a very nice event and a very enjoyable one as well. If you attended last year you know what I mean...if you could not attend last year, make plans now to attend this year. You will be happy you did. AND, it makes a very convenient time to either renew your Mean Green Club membership or to join for the first time. Jessica, Taryn and other staffers will be in attendance and can easily help you join or renew your membership. Why not save $10 per person and join up at the event...or before. Either way, you get to enjoy the evening with other members of the great Mean Green nation and you get to save a few bucks in the process. What's not to like? See you on the 6th. Get those RSVP's in ASAP...you really do not want to miss out!

  15. Actually long term ODU and UNCC may turn out to be very good moves. My bone to pick is that CUSA caved in to Marshall of all people and added both the F_ U's.

  17. Britton Banowsky erred badly in his rush to replace CUSA defectors. It's not that he didn't get potentially good replacements but adding moveups and basing his decisions (save LaTech) on markets was wrong. In business, if you promote the young neophyte over someone who has proved their worth over time the results are distrust and low morale. I see a similar parallel here. There not being a glut of qualified teams, I believe that BB should have only added to maintain the level of 12. He had four to replace initially and North Texas, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana and Arkansas State should have been the choices in my opinion. All have been in Division 1-A at least 25 years with degrees of success. Louisiana has averaged 26,000 attendance over the last two years and Arkansas State 25,000 last year. Both have been to bowls the last two years. Louisiana has beaten San Diego State and East Carolina in those two bowls and last year was largely responsible for a record 48,000+ attendance at the New Orleans Bowl. He might have also considered the option of raiding the MAC of the two or three teams that have had decent teams and attendance lately. The MAC has some good teams but their attendance is bad. Only Ohio and Toledo fulfill both qualifications currently. NIU was a BCS qualifying team and only averaged 15K last year but they have had better attendance in the past. Then, on the defection of the final two, I would add Middle Tennessee for sure and then I'm faced with a decision. The next in line based on record and attendance would be Troy. But, Troy is considered a maverick by several/many universities. At that point in time it's time to consider UTSA. San Antonio is a large tourist-destination city with a bowl game but no FBS membership. They have a coach with national credentials and a 65,000 seat stadium available and the backing of the city. They have been drawing 30,000 playing Division II teams. I would then make the call and add UTSA due to the special circumstances. I would not consider going beyond 12 teams unless some top MAC teams are interested.

  19. That's because part of that deal would be being with the rest of the Sun Belt. I'm not happy about FAU or FIU coming along with us, but at least we get a good program in MTSU and for now get to drop the rest of the bunch.

  21. UTEP's draw to the MWC is their time zone & market size, strength of program is secondary, history of the program is third (but that's been the case in almost every realignment decision). I agree that the possible 12 team CUSA line up would be better than our current SBC set up, but I would still prefer a 14 team conference for the simple reason of 6 divisional games, and two intra-divisional games. The less trips to the Eastern Time Zone the better as far as I'm concerned. One of the biggest challenges with being in the Sun Belt has been the travel. Playing an annual game in Miami hasn't help us when we can't reasonably recruit the market. Regular games in West Virgina and North Carolina aren't going to do alot to help us build our program. Under a 14 team, 2 intra-divisional game format we would only visit the far away teams once every 7 years instead of once every 4 years.

  22. Well, I owe Plumm an answer on the subject that he and I agree to disagree on. I think that you do understand SMU's decisions because you just reitterated it a couple of sentences later. A few wealthy donors have controlled SMU since maybe the beginning of time. They believe that they are protecting their home turf by refusing to be in a conference with North Texas. They do that primarily in athletics because it is the most visible but that also do that in academics as well. They view themselves as superior in both. They actually were superior when we were a poor struggling teacher's college and they were in the Southwest Conference. It's different now but in the eyes of big donors they lose face if they allow us to their level. Hang the cost...they've got deep pockets. They are still superior in academics as well because they can set their own standards and North Texas is not for the elite. We have far more quality programs but few that can match SMU apples to apples. No, SMU is not ivy league quality (only Rice is at that level in Texas) but they are well above average. Where Jim Plummer and I differ is that he thinks that SMU controls all private schools. While I have no doubt that SMU would never vote for us to be in a conference with them (as long as big donors are dictating posture) it doesn't always follow that they control all of the other private universities. I'm pretty sure that SMU cannot control Baylor and probably not Rice. The others I'm not sure of but they haven't made a ton of friends along the way with their cheating tactics. Gerald Turner serves at the behest of the money people that actually run SMU. I use to think that he was a reason for the animosity toward us but now I'm concluding that he's just a talking head. Most of the rank and file that I've known over the years are good people and are not snobbish. My daughter is on the staff there and she has no problem with SMU's administration. But,I'll admit that some of their bigwigs and especiallty their posters can get under the skin.

  23. You have brought it on yourself with your comments and posts the last couple of years. I am happy to talk basketball but I could care less that you played at the rec. and I don't know anybody on this board and I have been on here since 01 or 02 but it is hard to take you seriously sometimes when you have changed your name and you act like you aren't Skiver. At least admit you changed your name. It seems odd that Skiver who was a regular poster on here suddenly disappears and Andrew all the sudden appears.

  24. You don't need to know x-and-o's to identify a disaster. Likewise, think I speak for a lot of folks when I say it is not necessarily the losses that are scary. It's how we're playing. I remember watching Billy Gillespie's first year at UT-El Paso. They won 6 games total. SIX. But I don't remember a single fan or friend (including myself) that thought it was not worth going through. Those Billy teams (not necessarily the Kentucky ones) played with so much heart, hustle, and desire you couldn't help but be proud of them. You just knew it would be turned around. Andrew can continue to believe what his rec experience tells him. I'm happy for his optimism, and certainly hope Benford turns it around. But it better not be too far off. Whatever basketball revolution he thinks is happening is not being seen by our non-rec expert fanbase. As an aside, I can't believe how rough this going has been. Benford opinions set aside, this staff has way too much expertise to justify what is going on.

  28. I think it would be fine for us. We need to win first and everything else will fall into place. On a side note, everyone here always speaks about UTEP being very desirable as a conference addition elsewhere. Outside of geographic location, why? They're football program is historically worse than ours (ouch because we have been pretty rough) and their basketball glory days are behind them. The Haskins era was great but those days are gone. Academics aren't stellar in general either. The rest of their sports are average as well. Everyone of my friends and family who went there are very disappointed with the university and athletics. Just wondering why the assumptions of their departure outside of rumor or speculation. (Not bagging on them either because I will enjoy us playing them in the Fall.) No matter who ends up with us doesn't matter either way if we continue to lose. WIN!!!

  29. I am fine with this. 12 members is a good number and always works best for scheduling.

  30. Very happy. I would hope that this group could maintain all the current bowl tie-ins. I suspect that we would not, but I don't think we would lose all of them. Three other Texas schools would be about the right number. We could still drive to some out of town conference games. The students would recognize our conference opponents. The only negatives are the number of schools that are moving up and the perception that we are in a little better version of the Sun Belt. At least the former Sun Belt teams that come with us would be in the other half of the conference. I would be all for it.

  31. I am happy with that no need to expand. It isn't like other conferences are biting at the bit to get sunbelt teams, they will be there.

  32. Good post PLUMM.I am not as anti-SMU as some on this board, but I cannot understand their decisions. Their number one priority should be fan support which, as you point out, is not going to improve around here with a Big East schedule. SMU football is looking more and more like a small private club with a few wealthy donors rather than an intercollegiate program. Surely it can't continue this way forever.

  34. I joined soon after I graduated in 1969. While it didn't seem cheap in 1969 dollars, that $100 seems like highway robbery now. (That was actually more than my first semester tuition and fees!) I am fairly sure the price will NEVER go down, so I suggest now is the best time to grab it.

  39. Actually TE is one of NT biggest need positions. They lost the starter and several others. Miller is back and Prior too after a redshirt year, but both are seniors. Marcus Smith was injured and although supposed to be very good has not proven it yet. He, Tanner Smith and Cooper Jones are I think the only ship underclassmen. NT used a lot of multiple te sets last year, and they do need numbers. DL has almost everyone in the rotation returning and lots of bodies. Yes, NT could use a star player on the defensive line; but it is not the need position a lot seem to think. They lost Obi at de and Cantly at dt but return de's McCoy, Mason and Bellazin who played a lot. They have added a good juco and have redshirt freshmen Horton, Watson, and Deluga. Lincoln, Abbe and Boutwell return from the dt rotation and they have 3 freshmen redshirts.

  40. We were picked to win the west. I don't even know which direction is west now. I liked Johnny, but I'm not sure he was a super coach. And poor free throw shooting seemed to be a North Texas tradition. I bet Johnny will shine at LSU with it's national recruiting ability. Again I really liked JJ but I think he's about a .500 coach.
